I loved learning more about dear departed Maggie Smith's character Minerva McGonagall, sad past but she triumphantly overcame her past, thank you for sharing these little known facts.
I am one of those "adults"! I even waited in the dark of night in a long, long line with my son and his friend for Book 3 to be available at midnight at our local bookshop, lo these many years ago! I think it was close to 3am before we finally GOT the book for my son! Happy Memories! I then took him to each of the HP movies as each appeared in our local Cinema, and enjoyed them all myself!
Of course the hat wavered between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor for Minerva McGonagall. She was both wise and brave and we all loved her for it. Maggie Smith was brilliant and now I cannot see Professor McGonagall as anyone else. RIP.
Minerva was a strict but fair teacher at Hogwarts. When Ron and Harry crashed the car into the Womping Willow in the Chamber of Secrets, Snape wanted expell Ron and Harry but Minerva gave them both detentions for their actions
RIP Dame Maggie Smith. Professor Minerva McGonagall (Harry Potter) Mother Superior (Sister Act) And so many other roles that I've never seen. But for your age, I would say that you left us too soon. Instead I'll say that you had an amazing life and career that touched millions. Be proud of what you accomplished. And we will never forget you.
I know HP is a work of fiction, but somehow the actors in the series have made it "human" and "real" ... so reading about Minerva's life, as well as some post-Hogwarts experiences, is fascinating.
I thought there wasmore to her than what is shown to the world. She had some tragedy in her life but she was able to rise above it. Maggie Smith was perfect casting.
I waited until I retired from my teaching position to begin the Harry Potter books. Now I can enjoy these books without neglecting my students. My granddaughter tells me the books are worth their price; so your video gives me a wonderful introduction to my next reading(s). Thank You!
Peter Pettigrew did not sacrifice his own life, he was murdered by Voldemort. Do not forget who gave him that hand. True, he gave Peter the magical hand to replace the one Peter cut off, the flesh willingly given, to restore Voldemort. Peter's new hand was much more powerful than the hand it replaced, and while some may have seen it as a gift of gratitude, gratitude was not something Voldemort felt. Voldemort did not give anyone anything without a catch. The hand ensured Pettigrew's loyalty. Voldemort knew that Peter was weak. He also knew the debt Peter had with Harry. Harry had saved Peter's life, and this was a debt Peter would need to repay, either forced by magic spell, or by Harry simply reminding Peter of this debt. If Peter had the chance to do it, he would. And so when that happened Peter's magical hand would turn against him, killing him.
First and foremost God rest the soul of Maggi Smith I hope future portrays can stay the same to the original films and books. I know there’s gonna be more editing information in the TV series but still.
For any younger viewers if you get a chance to see Maggie in The prime of miss Jean Brodie and also California suite take the time to watch them, Maggie is more than fantastic in both ❤ ❤❤❤❤
Interesting question: on the day she was the cat at 4 Privet Drive, was she looking to adopt Harry Potter? She seemed to be dropping hints. She could have raised him maybe in a flat in Hogsmeade if not at Hogwarts.
I think that could've been the case, and would have the best mom to him. Of course, Molly Weasley, was also a good parent to him. She adopted Harry into the family, sort of.
I always wondered about that. But I figured she was just blending in with Mrs. Figs’s cats to keep an eye on Harry for Dumbledore. I think it came up in the 5th book. My favorite teacher in real life was and still is Real Life McGonagal.
I think James did become a seeker as well because with the flashback in the half blood prints we see James playing with a snitch, which would imply he would which would imply that he was in fact a seeker at least at some point.
James Potter did play Quititch as a seeker. Hernone said that playing Quititch was in Harry's blood. So great that both father and son played on the same team together although decades apart. Ron said that James Potter was the best seeker in a century.
Here is an interesting topic idea. Why did the headmaster's office refuse Umbridge entry when she was appointed headmistress? Do the portraits or perhaps the sorting hat have a role in in the final acceptance a new headmaster?
@@craigshuman5023 one of the portraits said “this office is closed to (or something like that) anyone but the true Headmaster of Hogwarts. Does that mean we can assume Dumbledore will soon be back among us” in the Order of the Phoenix after Sirius death
@@luisecawthorne1025 It's possible that Dumbledore locked the office against "userpers". Yet my pet theory is that the Hat and portraits play a role in the final "acceptance" of a new head master as the Qilin do in the International Confederation of Wizards.
I understand this was about Professor McGonagal but something about the last entry puzzles me: if she installed Nevell Longbottom as the next Herbology Instructor, what happened to Professor Sprout?
I’m confused. Her mother didn’t tell her dad about being a witch. She wouldn’t marry him. Then she did when he agreed to the law of secrecy. But yet she spent her “entire” life hiding her powers from her husband.
Most of, if not all of the spells in Harry Potter are in fact looser Latin, or slightly changed forms of the Latin word. For example Expecto patronum means something like "I await my patron" and the spell basically calls forth a person's spirit animal to defend them. Expelliarmus, another of Harry's main spells is a combination of Expellere (meaning to cast away) and Arma. (Meaning "arms" or weapon) Avada Kedavra is one of the most complex, because it's context matters. It means something slightly different depending on where you believe the phrase comes from. But it roughly translates to "destroy the thing." Yet, the way Voldemort uses it could actually translate more accurately to "with my words I destroy." There is evidence to suggest that this phrase is a corrupted form of "abracadabra" which itself was more commonly used as a phrase to destroy unwanted illness, so this is particularly in character for Voldemort, who sees others as a blight. This actually makes sense because most spells and names in the Harry Potter books have an extended meaning if you dig deep enough. For example, "I await my patron" may seem like an odd choice to summon a spiritual defender until you realize that a "patron" is literally a supporter. In Harry Potter dementors are personified depression. So calling upon your greatest inner support, an embodiment of your potential, makes them less able to touch you.
@@Maholixabsolutely agree. And even the names of the characters have meaning Dolores Umbridge can translate to “the sorrow of taking annoyance or taking of false pride

Where are you getting the information about these backstories? So fascinating.
It took 4 Stunners to take Mcgonagall down… 8 to take down a dragon. That’s how strong she is.

Always have been, that’s why Hogwarts is called school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It’s derived from “the craft” just as as Wicca means “wise”
