Heads up that if you bring the generator to a high altitude camp, it’s gonna shut down on an overload with one while running your AC. I tried with a 13,500 btu at 4600’ -ran the AC no problem. At 6500’ -didn’t have the power output. So I went out and bought the companion model and used the 30amp plug. Works like a champ now.
Be nice if they updated the 3000 to a 4500 and kept it the same weight or maybe a pinch less. Unfortunately Honda is a little behind on that wattage area.
Honda definitely makes a great genny. Just wish it wasn't so expensive. Bought a Westinghouse iGen2200 2 years ago at half the price of Honda and it still works great. Powers my RV 15000 BTU a/c if I turn everything else off. My buddy has the Honda 2000 for the past 4 years, I think? Has done nothing but change the oil every year and still starts up on the first pull every time. Would have been my choice if not for the price. Thanks for the great vid on this excellent new model Honda.
the difference, in 10 years you can sell the Honda for $800, the westinghouse wont be worth shit if it still runs. For someone who uses a genny occasionaly it dont matter, but for everyday use. Honda
The thing is for the regular weekend or every other weekend camper user or just when the power is out one of the 80cc Chinese generators should work for years to come. But using a generator every day like me being off grid I've already killed a cheap Chinese 80cc inverter generator only after 6 months of heavy use. The engine still started up and run but the overload light come on immediately and would not make any electrical power. the inverter boards in most of these inverter generators are weak. Luckily the store replaced this generator but I'm a little too cautious to use it now and I'm going to sell it or trade it off. Honda does seem to be better but I would really like to see someone overload with appliances. With the overload light on and keep running it with overload light on and see how tough the Honda really is. That is how you really torture test one. Apparently I did it to this Chinese generator and it didn't last. But the crazy thing was this Chinese 80cc generator was $2,200 watts and I was running less than 3 amps total out of a maximum of about 15 amps.
Exactly the review I was looking for. I have the 2000i companion and it won’t start up my 15,000btu ac unit. It will usually overload the inverter so I was looking to add a second one, but after watching this maybe I only need the one.
The Honda 2200 is a power house but when starting AC units have the eco off as it’s intended but a lot will just leave in eco which you are not supposed to do. Also if you are running 1650 plus watts the whole time I would step up a size Because once it gets hot and you add elevation it becomes harder for the Honda to run the Ac for long durations, hours at a time. Soft starts are always good. Glad this helped, what size AC unit ?

Thank you for your video, I just want to ask that is this generator use normal gasoline or do wee have to mix it with oil ? I do some research and see there are some generator need to be mix with oil in order to run
Thinking about going to pick one of these up today - mainly to use for boondocking in our travel trailer. We’ve got a 15k AC and I’m questioning if this is enough generator…. Any recommendations on size and brand (if not the EU2200)?
While it’s a good generator it will be maxed and if not over loaded. If you have a 15k ac it can draw as much as 1750 watts. If you have anything else on in the trailer you’ll exceed 1800. At 1750 your maxed anyway and should never run any equipment at its max for hours and hours at a time. Unfortunately you need something bigger. If compact is what you want the pulsar 4000 has been getting popular and really good reviews. Is the CO sensor replaceable? they typically last 4 years. so what happens then can you slot in a new sensor or now have to ship it and spend a few hundred bucks round trip?
The great oil debate will never go away on what people think is better or what works better for big engines or small. But if you want the best oil then Amsoil is the way to go. Second best would be pennzoil platinum. For these small engines I use a semi synthetic and Walmart brand. They don’t make the oil it’s just a sticker but it’s not bad and for the price it will be fine. Just make sure to change the oil more frequently during extreme duty.
If you have the option for ethanol free in your area and it’s cheap that would be best. If not 87 octane is just fine but I also run a fuel conditioner. One bottle lasts a long time and helps keep engine running clean, and prevents corrosion from ethanol fuel.. such as this product…amzn.to/3VBvEHz
Hey Johnny, really appreciate your videos- they helped me make the choice and purchase this generator in the companion kit for work and play. I do have a couple questions if you don't mind: -Can I run avgas in this without hurting anything? An old mechanic friend (who had his pilot license) said he runs it in all his seasonal equipment like lawnmowers, weed eaters, etc. since it never gets old. I haven't had to winterize my lawnmower in over 10 years and it starts on the second pull every spring. -Do you have a dual or tri-fuel conversion kit that you would recommend? Thank you sir!
You can run a gas if you want and yes the reason it lasts so long is that its ethanol free and low lead. So it stays good along time. But it’s expensive and will provide no actual running benefits other then storage benefits. The us carb kit is fine and the other company as well I forget but there are only two or three
I'm not sure where you live but in Colorado, we buy ethanol-free or it can be called pure gas. We have been using it for years and it is the only thing I put in my ATVs, mowers, generator's anything that requires gas. Works great and they all start up after winter. No issues! It's about the same price here as mid-grade unleaded.
I would use ethanol free fuel as well if it was about the same price. Right now regular is about $4.79 ish around here, and ethanol free is $8.59!! And only available at i think one place now in my town. It’s just not worth it when a little fuel treatment has served me well for 15 years..👍🏼 But again if price was super close then yea for sure. 👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends what state do you live in? Regular unleaded is 3.30 right now in Colorado and lead free is at 3,79. In Longmont Colorado there are 3 gas stations constantly have price wars and last Friday I paid 2.75 a gallon for unleded.
Yes obviously it won’t be much power, and depending how you have things wired it may only power one side off the panel. You would want a critical loads panel.
I have 4 of the 2200s. Best small generators on the market. But I won't buy anything with blue tooth control. If it's blue tooth,,,, someone else can control it via Wi-Fi. End of story.
Could this run a 6000btu window ac unit, home full size refrigerator, a couple lights and a fan? I plan on using this just during power outages and hurricanes.
Yesssss!!! Because the Honda has a actual fuel pump many kits can be purchased ready to go with everything you need. Here is one you can look at. amzn.to/3KEZjqA
Would you happen to know when the Honda 2200i companion model will be in stock at generator Bible? Or know where I could buy one? I'll have it shipped. I'm. OK with that.
I think when the ships gets unloaded …😂 There is hardly anything available because of that lol, but they are headed to Florida I guess so hopefully soon..😁👍🏼
Honestly you can use what ever oil as long as it meets the API service category and is the correct weight. 5-30 or 10-30 and any synthetic oil will be fine. Don’t over think it. And if you wanna buy a bottle with a fancy sticker and pay more that’s fine but your generator doesn’t care as long as it’s correct weight and changed frequently….👍🏼
When I run the heaters at night in my trailer the batteries die and my generator won't start on my trailer. I bought this Honda generator to run at night to keep my heater and battery's good. Would I switch off the converter switch like you do in your video? Sorry I'm a complete noob
No you want to keep the converter on if you need to charge the batteries. That is part of what that does. Charges the batteries and runs the 12v system in the trailer when plugged into shore power. I had solar on that trailer so that keep the batteries charged. But it you use enough power at night it may not be enough depending on the size and how many batteries you have.
@JOHNNY'S WEEKENDS ok thank you!! I have solar but the batteries must not be enough to make it through the night with the heater on. I bought the honda 2200i to run at night instead of my big on bored genorator. So I just plug it into the trailer and turn it on and I'm good to go? Thanks..
Yea depending on your battery bank especially if lead acid and only a couple of the stock size batteries it wont be able to run the heater and fridge and other small items during a whole night. THe furnace uses a lot of power. And yes plug the gen into your main cord that goes to shore power and make sure gen is far enough away to prevent CO poisoning. A additional meter inside is always good. Fill up at night before bed and leave on eco. This is where I wish Honda had a propane unit or a small unit with remote start.
@johnnysweekends oh I see. Thanks for the info. I've never touched a generator, but I'm looking to get one because it can be hard to find a plugin for my camper batteries.
If I have the non bluetooth 2200 i and i bought a new 2200 companion with 30 Amp and I parallel these . Does the bluetoothh read both generators as one powersource? would be nice to monitor the total power output. Imagine it should be because it like having to batteries in parallel they double the watts
Hello. I need a small, quiet generator to run a small electric heater during moose hunting season, as well as recharging my phone and a few other gizmos. I know Honda is the queen in this segment. But is there another that you would recommend. That makes clean(ish) power, and won't require me to mortgage my house? Thank you so much! Dan
Hey Johnny! I've been watching your videos for some time now and after much deliberation I decided to purchase a Honda gen just three days ago. I am planning on setting up my first demo of it this Sunday with family so they know how to use it while I am gone but one question I've stumbled upon and can't seem to find a solid answer is that.. I know these Eu2200is have a surge wattage of 2200w but most 12ga 50ft cords only can handle up to 1875w.. Say for instance I have an appliance that requires the full 2200w startup but runs 1800w normal.. would I be okay with still using that same 1875 rated cord? I can't seem to find any 12 gauge cords around my area that will take on 2200w. Let me know what you think Johnny! Thank you again for your awesome videos!
When you add length you need to add size as well. Most cords are rated for sustained watts but can handle surges for a few seconds with out making the overall draw go way up. Typically you need a shorter cord or bigger gauge, going to a 10g will help you in longer runs and when the temperature gets hot to keep amp draw down.
Great content, used one of your reviews to decide on my purchase of a Champion 4650 Watt Generator. I would like to know more about your Watts/Amp display box you use to test with.
I wonder why you usually test DBA levels from 23 feet away? At most camping areas that I goto, you don't have the luxury of having your generator 23 feet away from the camper in any direction. It would be a more realistic test to have the gernerators tested at 10 and 15 feet away, just my opinion. This would give a much better undestanding of how the noise of the generator would sound to the neighbors and to the owner.
The manufacturers do there test at 23ft. But I don’t know how high or what type of material they set it on. There is always room for a little error. Also when having a generator at your home you should always have it 20-25 feet from the wall of the home so exhaust fumes can’t work there way under the eves and possibly into the home.
I'm Leary about the CO minder . Like normal CO detectors for a house. Can the internal CO sensor be replaced? I don't want a $1100 plus generator that may occasionally not work due to a safety feature.
Don't be leery about it. Every generator will have them soon; stupid people must be protected from themselves. Per Honda, they are designed to last years, and the module is replaceable. Also, and most importantly, they just don't stop working suddenly. The sensor life indicator light will flash in certain ways when the CO-minder is reaching the end of it's lifespan. If the indicator flashes once every four seconds, this means there is approximately 6 months to one year of life left in it. If it flashes once every two seconds, this means there is approximately 6 months or less of life left in it. Plenty of notice to replace the sensors. So if they stop working, it'll be the owner's fault for not heeding the warning.
@@johnnysweekends Thanks! One more question: can I run the generator in the back of my van mounted on a hitch carrier? Some people do, but my concern is the carbon monoxide while I’m sleeping inside the van 🚐
Yea that’s a problem , different when it’s a propane unit less chance. Now you could run a Rv exhaust extension kit. The kit can be broken down and then put back up in like 5 mins or less. Look here and see if this will work. amzn.to/3D513bC
In the cabin (which is off the grid), we run a 5000 BTU ar conditioner, a refrigerator, lights, phone charging and a TV. You would be surprised what this generator can run.
Hello friend I have a smaller 2023 RV Do u think this would be strong enough for ac and lights to power my camper My gas can control our heat and hot water So my question is this do u think this would be enough or should I get the Honda 3000
There are several factors What size ac unit.. Will you use at high elevations Will it be extremely hot when using like over 105F? All this adds up a lot to loads on a generator. If it’s a 13.5k it will be enough but add a really hot day and altitude and you will probably about 1500 watts. A soft start will probably be needed on those really hot days
@user-lp9ed2gg4p the Honda will work but on the nasty days it will have a harder time starting with out a soft start. Also you start the AC first with no other loads and ac converter off. Then if you need to run other items turn them on after. Your house batts should be charged from a solar panel so you can leave converter off which will save you from over using the generator. Those can add extra load. If you need to charge batteries then click is on as needed.
Yes it’s 15.5 rated and peak is higher so on and off it will be fine. I was at a construction site the other day and those guys were abusing it with tools and it was a 100 degrees out just doing it’s thing. They hold there own well.
Yes, kinda curious of the compressor size. I bet his start up is about 20-25… Curious what model and hp. Crazy the more I notice Honda generators and what they are being used for, people just work those things. But they handle it.
I just bought the $2,200 light yesterday never used it yet brand new someone let me know if the 2800 I is any better I'm not talking about any better is the motor quality better is when it lasts longer cuz I want to know if I should exchange for the 2800 know it's a little bit bigger but is any better than the it doesn't State nowhere if it's any better if it would last longer that's what I really want to know the 22i or the 28i which one is really really better in the last longer if I hit the 2800 is better I'll exchange this for that that's the same exact price let me know someone please the real truth about it
Your talking about the eg2800i..? If you don’t need a quiet and really portable unit then I don’t see why that won’t be another decent choice for you. Depends on your needs.
Well they do make a quality product just at a premium price but there are other options that work good to. Kinda like cars if you want the best with least amount of trouble and cheapest to own well you buy a Toyota but not everyone does.
@@johnnysweekends if you would like to really give it a workout maximum overload the generator right until the overload light comes on and keep running it. if over load light light comes on and will stay running repeat this again and again. Even if you have to shut it down and overload it again with several appliances. If the generator doesn't burn up the inverter board that is it I'm sold and I'm sure others are too. if you can do this repeated test over 6 months of heavy use like I did with the cheap Chinese generator that died. Honda then is definitely bulletproof. Non-inverter generator like my Coleman pulse 1850 Watt over 26 years and still running strong and is definitely bulletproof. Here's why over the years I've overloaded it and even let the engine valves rattle in the generator for well over an hour over the years to run a big battery charger. I've never burned anything out anything or had to do anything more than change oil often, the spark plug often, air filter, treat fuel and regular maintenance that's it which I do on a routine basis. This generator has the Briggs & Stratton bulletproof engine. When I want to make extra power I overspeed the governor on the generator and hold it at times wide open and still the engine is never blown up or give one problem. I don't advise this over speeding of the governor on any generator but if you want to have extra power or sometimes you're in a pinch on a job you have to do this in order to start equipment. That is why I say this generator is undestructible and bulletproof. I'm just not sure Honda can truly say that until I see some people perform that test.
My old Coleman pulse 1850 watt generator that is over 26 years and still going strong has never burned out any sensitive electronics cell phones computers and more over the years. It's never burned out anything over the years. And it's dirty not pure clean sine wave power imagine that!!!
@@tomtee4442 This is truly an intelligent suggestion. Why don't you buy a Honda, repeatedly abuse it as you suggest, then get back to us with the results?

Ahh no, I know a bunch just got unloaded from ships which is how I got my generator. Ahh these delivery guys just trash stuff now. Makes me so made even my stuff has been getting hammered, definitely not happy.
Give me the Coleman and 600 bucks and I'll give you mine it's brand new I got it yesterday never put any gas or oil in it I just looked at it opened the box and looked at it I don't plan on using it just yet give me 600 bucks and the Coleman it's yours you can put bring oil and gas I planned on breaking it in correctly if I don't hear anything when I'm ready to use it I plan on running it nonsynthetic oil for 1 hour and doing it every hour 5 hours gradual load and then use synthetic and then change the oil every time I use it so last forever but if you want to do that it's up to you I don't care either way I know I'll probably miss the Honda cuz I don't really like big generators before they had one always had problems with them big and huge $25,000 w Generac carburetors never started muffle is going bad all kinds of b******* so that's it
I’m thinking of purchasing a 20 foot single axle trailer . Has 30 amp connector. AC unit is 13,500 . Would just need to run ac nothing else. Would one Honda 2200 be enough ??
In the test I running a 15k ac unit. Now for that situation you are running almost max at about 1550 watts give or take fan and outside temp. So for a 13500k unit you would be fine especially if you turn converter and fridge off and run on propane for fridge and a small solar panel and controller to charge battery. I have several people reply back running a 15k ac unit for years on these units. But heat and altitude play a factor in that.
re 7:00I think more folk would recognize what you are talking about if you called the "CO Minder" by its proper name, "Carbon Monoxide Minder", referring to the deadly engine exhaust gas.
That’s the places you go, but there are literally thousands of places to go where you may need extra power. Solar is a great option for some things but if you need to run bigger power items a generator is the cheapest way to go still. And if you wanna run a ac unit a generator is about the only way to go for price. Many state parks don’t have power, and many off grid camping or boondocking places also do not have hook ups. Or maybe if your going to Mexico as well. Another thing to is when traveling I carry a gen to run the Ac unit as that’s all I want just in case I break down somewhere warm I can go inside the trailer and run the ac while waiting for help or repairs. So a small Honda will do everything I need including running home items if the power drops. But I stay at campgrounds as well with full hookups

Put that on the back of a Renault Twizy can be so good to keep batterie in long range 🤗🇨🇵
The new maxpeedingrods should also be a good unit…

Check the power draw of the sump pump. 120 volts at how many amps ?
Is the CO sensor replaceable? they typically last 4 years. so what happens then can you slot in a new sensor or now have to ship it and spend a few hundred bucks round trip?
They make a replaceable sensor so you can just swap it out

Does running on propane make them quieter ?
No
How long will this run two box fans?
Is it 10w 30 small engine oil or regular 10w30 oil vs synthetic .What,s the best oil ?
The great oil debate will never go away on what people think is better or what works better for big engines or small.
But if you want the best oil then Amsoil is the way to go. Second best would be pennzoil platinum.
For these small engines I use a semi synthetic and Walmart brand. They don’t make the oil it’s just a sticker but it’s not bad and for the price it will be fine.
Just make sure to change the oil more frequently during extreme duty.
@@johnnysweekends why not use Honda Oil?
Honda doesn’t make oil. Neither does Kirkland or super tech or Amazon basics.
But I figure the Honda sticker is worth at least $3-$4 dollars.

What extension cord would you recommend for a 12,000 btu A/C? Can I use a 20amp 12 gauge cord or should I stick with a 15amp 12 gauge cord?
Depends on the distance. Longer the run then you may need a better cord of 10g for 20 amp.

I do have a couple questions if you don't mind:
-Can I run avgas in this without hurting anything?
It’s just not worth it when a little fuel treatment has served me well for 15 years..👍🏼
But again if price was super close then yea for sure. 👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends what state do you live in? Regular unleaded is 3.30 right now in Colorado and lead free is at 3,79. In Longmont Colorado there are 3 gas stations constantly have price wars and last Friday I paid 2.75 a gallon for unleded.
Mike I live in the most expensive large state on the west coast…..🤣
Can I use an adaptor plug to be able to run this generator into my home circuit breaker box, or Transfer switch?
Yes obviously it won’t be much power, and depending how you have things wired it may only power one side off the panel.
You would want a critical loads panel.
Greetings from Europe
Right on.!!! 😀👍🏼👊🏼
I have 4 of the 2200s. Best small generators on the market.

Could this run a 6000btu window ac unit, home full size refrigerator, a couple lights and a fan? I plan on using this just during power outages and hurricanes.
Yes it should be able to handle that.
Can a larger fuel tank be added somehow?
Yesssss!!!
Because the Honda has a actual fuel pump many kits can be purchased ready to go with everything you need.
Here is one you can look at.

Super helpful. Thanks so much :-)
Would you happen to know when the Honda 2200i companion model will be in stock at generator Bible? Or know where I could buy one? I'll have it shipped. I'm. OK with that.
I think when the ships gets unloaded …😂
There is hardly anything available because of that lol, but they are headed to Florida I guess so hopefully soon..😁👍🏼
Sir, the W in 5W is not weight. It means winter.
Just picked this up. Should I use mobile one synthetic?
Honestly you can use what ever oil as long as it meets the API service category and is the correct weight. 5-30 or 10-30 and any synthetic oil will be fine. Don’t over think it. And if you wanna buy a bottle with a fancy sticker and pay more that’s fine but your generator doesn’t care as long as it’s correct weight and changed frequently….👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends Nice...just figured we use that oil in our cars. I appreciate the time.

How much per unit? In $ USD?
What kind of wattage could it put out in eco mode?
It’s rated the same at 1800 watts running. Eco doesn’t matter
Yea when you connect to the companion it should see what ever the unit is doing so wether it’s solo or paralleled it should read total output.
@@johnnysweekends cant wait for the next power outage then! lol 😂 thanks

@@johnnysweekends Thank you Johnny! You are a wealth of information. :D Now to find me a deal on a 10g cord XD.
Maybe Father’s Day and a Home Depot coupon 😀👍🏼😂😁
is the 2200 part the price?
No…
It’s $1099 normally for the gen but Honda may do a price revision and could go up to $1199 soon.
Great content, used one of your reviews to decide on my purchase of a Champion 4650 Watt Generator. I would like to know more about your Watts/Amp display box you use to test with.
I’ll do a video on that box at some point but other priorities lol.
But I will do it…
It’s easy really
Also about the same length as extension cords and RV power cords.
Great review, might as well run AMSOiL in it.
Love Amsoil..👍🏼👊🏼
Great video Johnny. Thanks.
Thanks Bill..👍🏼😀
What type of sound level did you use ?
dBa scale
4:27 what do you mean by “basically” shuts down
Well it shuts off. Press button in app and gen shuts off
You can Taco bigger jobs by using a flux capacitor achieve volt efficiency while mobile EV charge
I'm Leary about the CO minder . Like normal CO detectors for a house. Can the internal CO sensor be replaced? I don't want a $1100 plus generator that may occasionally not work due to a safety feature.
It is a replaceable piece and in the manual it did say a lifespan or service time…. 🤔
I’ll have to look again.
Yes all true. I read the manual again and pretty much says all that.
👍🏼
Seen a vid you can run it without it.
You can remove it and it will run. But it will flash if it starts to go bad. The information about it is in the manual.
Can the Honda 2200 run a 5000 BTU A/C unit without being overburdened? Thanks!
Oh yea no problem..😀👍🏼
I have ran a 15k Rv a unit at 1400 watts for hours. So the 5000 will be about 500 ish give or take 👊🏼👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends Thanks!

In the cabin (which is off the grid), we run a 5000 BTU ar conditioner, a refrigerator, lights, phone charging and a TV. You would be surprised what this generator can run.
What fuel did you use
I use 87 octane with a fuel stabilizer
Hello friend I have a smaller 2023 RV
Do u think this would be strong enough for ac and lights to power my camper
My gas can control our heat and hot water
So my question is this do u think this would be enough or should I get the Honda 3000
There are several factors
What size ac unit..
Will you use at high elevations
Will it be extremely hot when using like over 105F?
All this adds up a lot to loads on a generator.
If it’s a 13.5k it will be enough but add a really hot day and altitude and you will probably about 1500 watts.
A soft start will probably be needed on those really hot days
@@johnnysweekends I live in ks so I have all the elements my ac is 13,500 Coleman Mach

Yes, kinda curious of the compressor size. I bet his start up is about 20-25…
Curious what model and hp.
Crazy the more I notice Honda generators and what they are being used for, people just work those things. But they handle it.
Nice vid. How long can this generator run on 15 KBTU?
Depends on conditions and more. A lot of variables. But a 15k is the upper range for load so it will be a lot less like 3 hours more or less

Not exactly sure what size you are talking about but for the most part yes. Pretty much any house hold fridge.

I’ll try to be clearer in upcoming videos 😀👍🏼
Where would you need a generator? All campgrounds I go to have power.
