I just turned 76 and still love the old music. I passed this love on to my daughter and granddaughter. I saw them in Atlanta GA in 1986 (I think that was the year).
I have always loved Journey and this song. I am 68 going 69 and will never stop believing! Steve Perry has an incredible voice. They did not call him The Voice for nothing. Back then there was no auto tune. It is just pure raw talent. Love your reaction!
The GOAT of vocalists. I was 16 when Steve joined Journey and all these years later I still love Journey and Steve Perry. I got to meet and spend time with Steve at an event and he is the nicest, most humble, funny and gracious mega artist I have ever met and I have met quite a few in my 62 years❤️ I am a Perry girl til the end!✌🏻
I was fortunate to see Journey in concert three times back in their heyday. Once on this same tour, although not in Houston. Steve Perry was known as "The Voice" and to this day still holds that honor.
1978 Wheel in the Sky, Live in Japan 1980 Lights and Stay Awhile, played together. Faithfully, When you Love a Woman. Mother/Father live from this same concert.
@@ultramiddle4991 I’m 40, wasn’t even born yet when they recorded this and I LOVE Steve Perry, and my son is 18 and “Mother, Father” (by Perry of course) is one of his favorite songs
OMG....Journey's entire '81 Houstin Escape tour was phenominal. It's a live performance that is iconic. The song "Mother-Father" from that concert is exceptional. Steve Perry (lead singer) was noted as saying it was his toughest vocal to sing live. So biggest challenge for him. Since he is known as "The Voice," as he has been tagged the GOAT, even amongst other lead rock singers, to say it was tough for him says a lot for the vocals in this song. Word on the street was that with his parents splitting when he was fairly young caused him some real heartache, which added to the emotions of this song for him. He is just amazing because, in fact, all of his songs were sung with perfect pitch, and were emotionally charged. Also, "Open Arms" (from the concert), "Wheels in the Sky," from same, and my favorite power ballad that you should check out from '83 (I believe) is "Faithfully," which is about the struggle that band members go through when traveling and leaving behind their partners and children. Absolutely beautiful. That video is from studio. What you'll find if you delve into the rabbit hole best known as Journey, is that they were a band who was known for performing live, and sounding just as good, 12:20 if not better, than when they were in studio. No auto-tune, etc. Straight up talent. I encourage you to jump into the rabbit hole. It's an amazing adventure--or journey! Ha.
Separate ways, Faithfully, Sweet and Simple, Be good to yourself, Send her my love, Wheel in the sky, Lights, Anyway you want it, Winds of March, Girl can't help it... etc, etc, etc...
Welcome to the world of Journey and the great Steve Perry! I advise you to continue reacting to this magnificent Escape tour, live in Houston from 1981. It's wonderful! Greetings from Tandil, Argentina! 🇦🇷🤗
I was at this show in Houston. My whistle from the rafters is “Captured Live” for all eternity !! Although, the crowd in my immediate vicinity wasn’t as impressed as I was !! HaHaHa. Great show !!
Freddie Mercury was asked who the best singer was in the world, and why it was him. He responded, "I don't know. I'm not Steve Perry." He changed the song to add Houston in it.
A couple of female vocalists Patty Smythe/Scandal with "Good bye to you", and the amazing Linda Perry from 4 non blondes "What's up" Perry is in the songwriters hall of fame, and a producer that has been the driving force behind such artists as Pink, etc.
The big thing about live performances before 2000 is you knew if motherfuckers could sing (Milli Vanilli notwithstanding). Since the introduction of autotune, even live performances are enhanced. When Steve Perry was belting out this perfect rendition of Don't Stop Believing it was pure vocal talent.
Listen to Mother Father live. I’m 65 and have listened to them since they started. Steve Perry is still singing as a solo artist. The band is still touring with a new lead singer.
Ahhhh, high school again. I had Steve Perry poster in my room. It's Neal Schon (shawn). The c is silent. His son is now a guitar wizard like his old man. They are from the San Francisco bay area. I have seen them several times. Steve Perry is phenomenal as a front man. Has the audience in the palm of his hand. I like the the albums just before Escape myself. I loved Wheel In The Sky, Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' which goes right into Feeling That Way. And of course Lights. Greg Rollie was the original keyboardist who left just before Escape album and was replaced with Jonathon Cain from the Babies. Rock was king back then. Everyone will want Open Arms, Faithfully as well. Those were big hits and great music videos.
Steve Perry, The Voice!!!!! Cuenta la leyenda que los periodistas le preguntaron a Freddy Mercury que se siente ser el mejor cantante y él contestó no sé pregúntale a Steve Perry!!!!!!
Neal's last name is pronounced "shown". Steve Perry is my favorite rock singer of all time. I saw this concert when it originally aired, it was a live concert on MTV back when MTV was still a thing. I also have the DVD, which I've watched countless times. The entire concert is a masterpiece of vocal and musical talent. Steve sounds just as good at the end of the concert as he does at the beginning, and never misses a note. He is not known as "the Voice" for nothing. Thanks for the reaction!
THANK YOU for reacting to ‘The Voice’😁 #StevePerry & #Journey!!!!!🤗 May I humbly BEG😂 you to react to ‘Mother, Father’ from this same live, 1981 Houston concert😁- I PROMISE you’ll be blownnn awayyy!!!!!😁
The Voice Steve Perry 😍 One of my all time favorites. Try loving touching squeezing from this show. Happy Canada day 🇨🇦 Great reaction as usual my friend and Peace out ✌️ ☮️
No face mics, no earpieces , no electronics , playing g from what you hear on your speakers. Now that was true music!!! Steve Perry was known as the voice . Back in the day a reporter once asked Fressie Mercury wjat does it feel like to be the voice of Rock?? He said " ask Steve Perry! You probably heard this song on the final episode of the Sopranos
teve Perry, the voice, simply the best and unrivalled. The whole "Escape" concert was brilliant, you should definitely see more of it. The band in this line-up was simply top class and so well coordinated. Neal Schon was great on the guitar and together with Steve's voice they were the perfect "couple" (for me similar to Axel and Slash from Guns n Roses) they simply belonged together. But Jonathan on the piano, Ross on the bass and Steve Smith on the drums always did the perfect job. Journey without Steve is no longer Journey, but Steve will always be Steve.
There’s an incredible doc about the lead singer that took Steve Perry’s place. Here’s a blip: “Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey follows the real life rock-n-roll fairy tale story of Filipino Arnel Pineda, who was plucked from You Tube to become the front man for iconic American rock band, Journey, thereby becoming the latest performer to go from the Internet to real life celebrity. Having already overcome a life full of painful obstacles and now saddled with the immense pressures of leading a world renowned band and replacing a legendary singer…” If you like docs in your off time.
Neal Schon was a prodigy guitar player. He started touring with Santana at 16 years old! Neal Schon and Greg Rollie left Santana to form Journey and Jonathan Cain from The Babys also joined Journey. Greg was the original lead singer in their early blues days. The band changed direction when Steve Perry joined the band. Steve left the band in 1998. Their next singer Steve Augeri took over for Steve Perry but ended up hvaing to leave the band in 2006 due to vocal problems. Their current singer Arnel Pineda has been their lead singer since 2007 and they are still touring.

As you know live performances are electric and this is no exception - If you are not familiar with the Monsters of Rock Concert in Moscow not long after the fall of Soviet Union (& Berlin Wall) - it was held at a military airfield and it was free for anyone to attend. It set a record in attendance that to this day hasn't been broken - I won't tell you what it is - but it is mind blowing. Multiple bands played. Journey was better live than in the studio in my opinion check out Mother Father live in Houston or Wheel in the Sky live in Osaka the vocal acrobatics are insane !

It’s impossible to be in a bad mood when this song plays
Facts
I’ve seen three generations all cheer and sing along when a deejay plays this song-- and he’d better not fade it out until it’s completely spent. 😅

It was the song that Tony picked on the jukebox on the final episode of the Sopranos.
I love this band, the Wheel in the Sky is another good song by them
I was at this concert at The Houston Summit. Best live performers ever.
Steve "The Voice" Perry was the lead singer. Neil Schon was the lead guitarist.
I seen one of their concerts back in 1985 or 86 in Memphis Tn.
