    I’m learning how to draw again. I went to art school, but it was like they were steering me in a certain direction. I was taught that my own drawing style wasn’t good. Had a 3 year drawing break where I felt like all my creativity was gone. Videos like this really help and I’m drawing everyday again.

      I'm going through that, art school really kills your creativity and imagination

    • @aylamiller5752
      @aylamiller5752 2 роки тому +17

      Yeah art school isn't exactly the best if you want to continue down a happy art path. I think it's more for people who want to learn art by the book to become critics/ sell classic art styles. Which doesn't fit everyone.

    • @sometimesitslonely
      @sometimesitslonely 2 роки тому +15

      @@aylamiller5752 yes, that's why I'm confused whether should I continue art school or not, problem is there are too assignments assigned which is not very enjoyable because we are supposed to make it perfect. We are constantly compared and everyday is new things and can't really complete and understand the previous ones. What really is everyday is new and random which doesn't link and can be easily forgotten. Teachers are in constant hurry and doesn't give time to even understand and constantly change what we create telling 'this is not how you must do'

    • @zoeannejulia1998
      @zoeannejulia1998 2 роки тому +5

      @@sometimesitslonely I get that it’s hard, it’s important for young people to start nurturing to their own needs, instead of someone elses, they need to find their own voice instead of listening to someone elses.
      And constantly hearing negative feedback, puts you in a negative mood.
      But don’t get discouraged, It’s been a year for me since my last comment, and in that year, I got a contract with a publisher, started my own company where I sell my art, and I have many people who want to work together!
      It will all work out for you if you keep working hard for it! And embrace your uniqueness!

    If you are just starting a sketchbook, remember it doesn't have to perfect at all. You don't need to noticeably improve and you don't need a masterpiece on every page! Have fun, don't worry about the looks or perfection, and remember you don't need to be the best at art to draw or use it a sketchbook

    • @Sidgirl5
      @Sidgirl5 2 роки тому +10

      Something helpful for if you do struggle with perfectionism is to have 2 sketchbooks: 1 for anything art, no matter if it's "good" or not. 2 for those "good" drawings, for when you give it your all in a piece! (I mean't to just add to the og comment, sorry)

    summary
    1) draw from life (like apples or your cat)- think about lighting and composition
    2) create a character- take an object and turn it into a character
    3) challenge yourself- draw 100 of anything
    4) doodle away- just get your hand moving
    5) reference study black/white and color- find a picture and paint it

    Recently started drawing again after almost a decade of artist's block (due to personal reasons), and while I can still draw rather well, I realized I'm lacking a LOT of practice.
    The challenge of drawing something several times will help me put things into their proper position within the body/structure once more.
    Thank you!

    Your cat made me subscribed 😆 (kidding aside) I just want to thank you for making me feel 'okay' and ready to take new challenges when it comes to art. Ever since I took up art class things turned up complicated, it made me constrict to do anything about art. That made me stop doing art (except in school works) but now that my course in college is related to art, I'm trying to gain my confidence back on the track.
    I'm starting tomorrow to fill up my ooooolddd sketchbook. 😊

      @@allexah8551 yes, I know 😊 although my sketchbooks are usually messy 😅 because I use them for sketches, mostly very raw ones, just to keep an idea in fixed on the go. I like to organise my work by source of inspiration anyway, with single sheets is that easier for me. Everyone should use what they prefer, but I just got sick of these comments "I don't have...." and wanted to write something encouraging about using other surfaces than fancy sketchbooks 🙄 (and also other materials, like expensive markers, pencils, paints - you don't need them to get started) and again I want to stress: it is just my opinion. I also dislike the idea of the how to fill your sketchbook- tutorials, because in my opinion that's just wasting materials. Filling for the filling's sake is nonsense. Draw to practice, to have fun, to release stress, to express your emotions, whatever, but for God's sake don't pressure yourself to fill a book. You'll be finished when you'll be finished. It is not a race 😅 (yes, I know you didn't say that I just wanted to write it out for so long, and if it helps someone, it is worth it)

    I took your advice to challenge myself by drawing 100 of things I have been learning. I am currently learning the Loomis Method for drawing heads and I have been filling pages with noses and eyes. I can see a drastic improvement in my sketches and just want to say "thank you" for the idea to set a goal of 100 each. It gave me a goal to work toward as well as a feeling of accomplishment when I finished.
