It’s so over rated. I overpaid for the 12. Did a blind with 101 and the difference was negligible
@@henrylee5542I disagree wholeheartedly, the thing about WT12 is that the nose does not add up to what it tastes like. The smell of it could have plenty of i.provement but man, the taste of that product t is absolutely delicious and not negligible in terms of difference at all, wt101 currently does not hold even remotely a candle to the 12yr export release. It's not comparable at all in my experience man. Wt101 is forever more damn near ruined for me after trying the 12yr 101. For current day wild turkey 101 products , the 12yr export is far and away the better option in terms of actual flavor/taste. Availability and price is another story

Are you sure they didn't slip some opium in there, Fred? That might've been the most satisfactory reaction I've witnessed in any of your videos. Honestly, everything here was great: the history, the banter, the master distiller's conflicting opinions. I was genuinely nervous the moment before you tasted this and breathed a sigh of relief when you leaned back in quiet euphoria.
I hope the irony isn't lost on anyone that Jack Daniels and now Maker's Mark have seemingly produced some of the best reviewed bourbons of the year simply by letting their distillate mellow a bit longer. It doesn't have to have a buffalo at the entryway to be good.

Good for Maker's finally understanding the market was leaving them behind. I don't really reach for Maker's except on the VERY rare occasion when I have a barrel pick. I will try to grab this one though.. presuming the secondary craziness doesn't buy most of these up as soon as they come in the back doors of stores.
Finally had some back in December. My BIL got a bottle to celebrate his son's wedding. It took the two of us EVERYTHING within our powers not to consume the entire bottle in one sitting. It was delicious.
I dont even drink but really enjoy watching people passionately pursuing things they love.
This video is exactly why i found the whisky/bourbon community to be so much fun to watch!

I remember touring Makers back in 2018, I visited the cellar and they made mention they were working on something special and secret was in the works. I think this was the release they were talking about.

Fred, I always appreciate your videos, your perspective, and your candor. After all the trolling and working on it, it must be hard to separate yourself from all this. I know you are a writer first and this UA-cam format is not your preference. You should still write something up in a format that satisfies you and put it on your website. You did it and the fans of makers mark appreciate it!!

Maker's Mark's commitment to telling its fans exactly how they should like their whisky never has sat right with me.
One thing I like about Makers is they usually have sufficient stock to supply the country so I'm hopeful I'll be able to buy some of this

Loving that distilleries like Makers Mark with this release and Jack Daniel's with JD12 are showing how they can produce some amazing bourbons that are far above any of the Van Winkle products (not going to say GTS or WLW as they are amazing too).

I applaud you for pushing them. I haven't scored one yet, but Makers is my first love in American whiskey and everything they do is rock solid.

Ive never met Bill but after watching that 3 minute clip, I can say he f'in rules lol. Guy marches to his own beat. Glad this whiskey is a winner. Hope I can find a bottle.

I got the entirely opposite impression and Fred's reaction reinforces my belief. Nearly everything he was saying I wanted to reply "OK boomer". He doesn't like aged whiskey, doesn't want to sell it and if you like it, it's because some swindler lied to you. Ok boomer. "The extra years were on a lower floor, it didn't influence the whiskey much", "bottle the nose and throw the whiskey out", "everyone's been brainwashed", Everyone raises their hand to say they like it, "well you can't have any". Yet when Fred took his first sip he nearly wet himself it's so good. He's a classic example of not knowing his consumer (or he just doesn't care).
I got goosebumps watching your reaction! I do believe your heartfelt review will cost me dearly! I'm a big Maker's guy so I'm going to have to have a bottle of this, can't imagine we'll be able to find it at retail!

Their wood finishing series is excellent - I agree I think a lot of their products are overlooked and under hyped. Some of their store picks are some of the best I’ve tried. Others are simply good. Haven’t had a bad one!
The Wood Finishing Series was awesome, and I haven't had a single store pick/Private Selection that was less than stellar.
Great Maker's Mark video! Not only historic but laugh out loud funny. I'm not a Maker's Mark fan (Larceny BP is my wheater of choice) but l would buy every bottle on the shelf of a 12 yo Maker's Mark.
Sure hope I can get my hands on one of these. I love everything Maker's Mark, and I'm sure this will be no exception.
I truly hope that they have very wide distribution so that everyone can have a chance to try this.

As soon as you mentioned `Nutella` you had my full attention! Isn`t it great when something you crave comes to fruition & doesn`t let you down with even the slightest disappointment. If & when this comes to the UK I will be all over this expression & hope I`ll be half as pleased with it as you are, it sounds glorius Fred.

In Pappyland, Wright Thompson quotes Julian Van Winkle as admitting that Makers Mark changed their recipe as he got to drink some dusty makers from Julian's collection. I'm guessing it really wasn't the recipe but about 5 years of extra age?

I absolutely loved this whiskey, but agree with your top 100 - once you start to line it up against other pours it starts falling down the list. I like the cellar touch. If they run it a little older in 2024 they will have something really special on their hands. Nonetheless, this is one hell of a bourbon.

I actually think its funny that they gave you not quite a 12 year old 😅 Its like an 11.8 year old haha! I feel like BIll and team at Maker's Mark just wanted to throw a teeny tiny amount of shade your way.
I personally love the Makers Mark 101 and just ever so slightly prefer it to the cask strength offering. There is just the smallest bit more spice to the cask strength but I just really like the overall balance of the 101 proof offering. If I ever see something like this on the shelf for 150 bucks I might bite the bulleit and go for a bottle. Hopefully my trusty local speakeasy gets a bottle of this like they have with just about every other whiskey.
