Great review. Instead of mining a single vein, I try to stock my personal cellar with dissimilar yet delicious varietals that express a range of complexity, profile, and price points. I'd love to hear your favorites list of exceptionally complex and unique bourbon and rye outliers. Keep up the great work.
As a person who's learning on how to identify flavors and aromas, you provided a great explanation on how to interpret spice vs. alcohol burn. Thanks!
Just started my bourbon journey about 8 months ago. A friend of mine recommended checking out your UA-cam page
Awesome. I hope i can help on your journey!
Ryder Cup is USA vs Europe so this release is a cool marriage between the two regions
I just picked up a bottle today. NC ABC: $100. According to the interwebs, the secondary toasted oak barrel comes from the wine-growing region around Rome, the state of Lazio apparently.
If it wasn’t for this review, I would have thought that this Ryder Cup release was just a marketing stunt. Cheers
Great review Fred. Two wildly different Heaven Hill releases back to back.
I love Makers 46 so this sounds very interesting to me!
Being new to the whiskey world for about 2 years now I did not realize that bourbon could be aged in anything other than new charred American Oak. So when you said European Oak was used it threw me for a loop. You learn something new everyday. Cheers!
The original bourbon aging must be in a new, charred American oak barrel. But then the juice can be put into a different type of (usually) previously used barrel of another spirit or wood or all. This is secondary finishing
If the initial aging is in another type of wood, it’s not bourbon, but it would still be whiskey.
Correct me if I misspoke, Fred.
I’m pretty sure the country of Origin does Not matter as long as it’s New Oak
Smokey Spice was the Spice girl who didn't make the final cut into the band.
I feel like it would be awesome if you did a list of some of your favorite non Kentucky bourbon profile bourbons. I finally found a bottle of higher proof dettling and also got a bottle of Ben Holladay BiB and am loving this side of craft bourbon. I’d love to hear your take on that scene as you turned me onto dettling. Cheers!
It’s been awhile since I have done that. You can also peruse my top 100 to see non ky brands. Boulder was the highest ranked at No. 10

How would this compare to Barrell Vantage? I remember that one being pretty spicy as well.
I wonder if the barrels were sourced from Italy since the Ryder Cup is in Rome this year.
You should do a review of the K. Luke Toasted Bourbon batch 1. I was lucky enough to get one from Seelbach’s and cracked it with the manager of a liquor store I have shopped for years (He had never had a K. Luke because we are in the people’s republic of Maryland and miss out on a lot of things). But would love to hear your thoughts it.
K Luke doing great things
The guy doing K Luke is about 45 min from me. I need to get by his store and try a bottle.
I was excited to find this one today, but passed on it because the box for it was ripped to hell. Such a bummer.
I was slightly disappointed with the EC B523 especially with the price increase to $70 retail. This one sounds great but I likely won't spend a "hundy" for it. Curious Fred how do you feel about Amburana (Brazilian oak) finishes? Honestly I don't hate the Brazilian oak finish but I definitely don't prefer it over French or American oak. The Penelope Rio was interesting with Amburana and Honey but it's not my jam.
I believe msrp has been $70 since batch A121. If you've been paying less until now good for you. C920 was the last bottle I got at $60
Off topic from video but any word on when or if the kentucky bourbon benefit auction is going to happen this year?
Sounds like I’d really enjoy this. Probably won’t be able to find it in my area but I’ll definitely look for one. Enjoy!!
What area?
@@getmoney6021 northeast Ohio we rarely get single barrel anything. Have never seen a larceny single either.
I want one so bad
Hey Fred, is that a Locomotive (Train) behind your head 😂
Thought you had something against Trains "F-yo-train!"
🤣🤣🤣
Haha. Good eye. It’s an ironic showpiece
Oh it’s a Beam Train 😂
Taste like coconut jiffy lube to me😂 sorry…probably never see it but you do a great job of describing it! Thanks Fred!
If it’s good, I’m in 👍
Club Marzipan?
I would be the person who wants the sweet oak taste. It seems you are saying this is a bad thing? Why?
Found this bottle today for 69.99 at Safeway had no idea what it was so thank youvfor the insight im excited
I think I missed hearing but what's is the proof?
The video is proof, sheesh what else do you need?
Dog gone it Heaven Hill.
False advertising.
‘Spicy but Lightly Toasted, Low Oak”
Thanx Fred!
