This video makes me think of gentrification. All the rapid development makes me wonder how to the natives feel. What is the average income of the locals. Are they being displaced from their homes? What opportunities are being made for the locals to be a part of the development and planning. What is happening to the local culture with all of this change? It’s also interesting that a country that is mostly Black has barely any Black folks in the “luxury spaces”

The locals are not driven out of any area for the purposes of gentrification. The construction is in areas that aren't inhabited already. Minimum wage is approx $3 per hour. The poor families band together and live in debt free homes. It's a huge accomplishment for them to build a home, even if it's what we consider a shack. What has me visiting Beloze repeatedly, is the love, peace and ease amongst the black people. It also reminds me of when I was growing up, times are simple and joy is easy, in spite of the poverty.
First time I visited was in 2009. I returned in 2018. HUGE difference!!! There was tons of growth and all of it that I became familiar with, came from foreign investors. There were several investors where I stayed who were opening hotels in San Pedro. It's a relatively poor country, so locals can't afford the activities in this video. This issue isn't specific to Belize though.
I really hope that tourist boards watching this video see this to the end and understand what you’re saying. It sounds like they understood the assignment and allowed you to do what creators do best - create. The exposure you’ve provided them to what Belize 🇧🇿 has to offer is unmatched! Great to see Will Mitchell and his team spotlighted - I love his videos and I’ve learned so much about the country. And I love seeing it from a melanated perspective. I can’t wait to see what’s next from Passport Heavy!
Went also to Belize a few years ago from doing the whole Mayan route in Mexico down to Belize and then Guatemala with my brother on his motorbike ad camping around It was An amazing time! Love all the mix of cultures there.. Went to a few villages and it amazed me seen little Mayan kids, Garífuna and gringo looking kids! Was truly beautiful, we weren’t in Belize for that long compared to Mexico and Guatemala but loved it!

I’ve traveled to Belize, did a girls trip. It was so such much fun. The water is so warm and clean. The native food is really good. I’ve Been to Belize city, Placencia, Hopkins, riversdale, took a charter plane to dangriga. I went during carnival at the time. The town parties all day and all night nonstop. The Garifuna people are so inviting, super sweet. We definitely would go again. An experience worth having for sure! 🎉🇧🇿🇧🇿🇧🇿
