Italy has a lot of vacant homes, there is simply no need for the amount of construction that is taking place in Germany and UK. Germany is close to 300k new houses per year, UK wants 300k but barely gets away with slighly above 200k badly constructed small shacks for way too high prices compared to Germany. Italy had 14.6k housing permits, total. Those cement blocks in Northern Italy are mostly from the boom days in the early and middle 80's, and the last boom around 2003-2008. The only places with large housing demands are industrial centres around Milan and the political centre around Rome. And perhaps some student towns like Bologna and Verona. Most of the other regions have large amount of vacancy, some villages even to such a degree they give houses for free or for 1 euro, all you have to do is most of the time invest in the locale and have a business there to increase the local communities financial standing. In the region where I live due to lower birth rates and younger generations moving to larger cities the families that stay behind often have multiple houses in with most of them empty and for sale if inquired. A lot of English are selling their second homes in Italy as the travelling and limited time they are able to be abroad since leaving the EU is just too much of a hassle. Talking about leaving the EU, I wonder how the UK house-building labor has been effected by the brexit and large easter-european workforce that normally builds a lot of western-european houses? Also nice detail; some believe China has enough vacancy to fill all yearly immigrants to western europe 300 fold. The quality might be quite bad tho.

@ronanKGelhaus it’s not a serious comment HOWEVER the issue isn’t immigrants, each immigrant comes from a different culture religion and so on, if your country doesn’t require immigrants to be highly educated and vetted then that’s an issue with the laws of the land not the immigrants themselves

I would normally recommend moving to America but somehow even with tons and tons of open greenland we have managed to screw up housing over the last few years as well....
The housing crisis is mainly down south and nothing to do or small percentage is to do with migration but for instance in London is due to billions of foreign and domestic cash from investors who buy and hold hundreds of properties and never sell. The government should limit the number of properties each company buys and holds on to specially foreign investors.
I am Canadian and I am sick of legal and the illegal imagination. Our economy and housing is in the dumps and I am no longer proud to be in a country where my heritage is literally being burnt to the ground.
Yeah. Mass Migration means higher prices and absolute turnovers for corporations , while the costs are externalised to the tax payers and the welfare state. That's why all the big corporations support it and they can call you a facist if you don't play along
I'm not sure the mathematics work out that way. Believe it or not, illegal immigration is the reason that Americans can still have low grocery costs. More people = more GDP = more opportunities. However, it's essential that we not create any more cheap debt. This only leads to higher consumer spending and less GDP. That's how you get higher prices and lesser wages.
I suggest you look up what ridiculous plots of land are classed as 'green belts'. A field off to the side of a motorway shouldn't be classed as a green belt. Just save the environment and prevent privatisation of any natural wilderness would be a better idea.
Lol. He makes it sound like thats alot of homes... its 262,000 homes a year... which the UK almost achieves. It is a really weird way to say we need a few hundred thousand homes a year. Legal migration is only a part of their problem, the other biggest problem is landlords buying up homes, colluding to maintain high rents, and creating artificial lack of supply of housing.

My British friend showed me this: In places like the Lake District, every other house is a holiday house, that is owned as a SECOND home by the rich people. You can sometimes see entire villages consisting of houses in which you can't actually live in.
The new bild homes are so expensive, that most locals can’t afford it. Great concept handing out to immigrants new housing as we know that over 70% of them will never work.
Been out of the UK for a few years, upon returning for a few week holiday, wow! It's went down hill dramatically. The UK has fallen.... its absolutely shocking how bad the UK has gone post covid. Even in areas where immigration was not prevalent, it has now spread at an alarming rate!
Same in Australia, except we hand out tax payers money in the form of social security as well… Australian borns from Australian generations should have a very different application in cost toward housing in their home land, and migrants should be notified prior to arriving, that if they wish to migrate here - their housing opportunities are equally going to be very different, meaning much higher. The surplus can help foot the bill rather than existing citizens paying for more.
We’ve been sold a lemon, we have been backed in to a corner with legislation and legal treats to think we can do nothing about all this. Which couldn’t be farther from the truth
@natnat_o3 Australia is currently in the worst housing crisis in its history, and yet the government is bringing in 1.2 million people a year. There is quite literally no where to put them. Housing availability is less than 1%. Yet the government wants to increase the amount yet again, it's madness. Rental costs are obscene. Australia's per population net migration is twice that of the UK. It's not fair to bring people into the midst of this, especially when the bulk is unskilled labour.
Most of us realise that legal migration is the heartbeat of Britain. Without them factories would go out of business, the elderly wouldn’t be cared for, local businesses including a hell of a lot of grocery stores would be closed down or monopolised, our doctors and nurses would be of the lowest quality (I don’t know why we can’t teach our doctors properly here but we simply can’t) We the British people are entitled and self centred, and our egos would have been smashed and we would be forced into horrible work with no hope of future, if these people were not so grateful and willing to do the jobs British people can’t hold down for more than 3 months. A work visa does incredible things to a workers spirit.
It's not to do with that, it's to do with how Thatcher sold off the council houses and didn't build any more and now we're experiencing a massive shortage.
Richard Tice, a leader of Reform UK, is also involved in the property business. It might be worth asking him about the number of rental properties he owns.
There are thousands of empty homes in England alone, entire estates, and streets of houses completely empty and falling apart. Get these done up, employ local workers to refurbish them, and house English and immigrant next door to each other. Instead of wasting millions per day housing immigrants in hotels, there will not only be fewer homes needed to build from scratch and less green belt land taken away, but there will be actual useful housing stock for the money spent.
In Poland, people are proud to adopt 6 million brothers in their own homes. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the population of large cities went up by numbers like 17%, 15%, 12%. The government secured each Ukrainian with the a national insurance (or identity?), as well as FREE HEALTHCARE, in a country where it is NOT free for citizens. Every important sign or poster has a translation as well!!! People gave up their entire houses to them, and yet are still incredibly proud to support our brothers. Yes, the economy is quite strained, but we don't complain.
Legit just going to buy a caravan and disappear into a forest somewhere..making monthly trips into the circus for supplies, forget the internet and all modern comforts, it's not worth it anymore.
Its happening here in Canada too Trudeau wants to bring in 1m+ people every year, wants half of them to be immigrants and the other half refugees, and we have nowhere for folks to live. Tent cities popping up in Montreal and Toronto overnight, theres over 50 in Toronto right now, Vancouver is worse. People are leaving war torn countries to come here and sleep on the street. Winter is coming very very quickly I'm 36, I ain't old, and I remember when this country wasn't like this.
It really sucks here in South Florida too.. been homeless for a year now and 3 kids, jobs don't want to give ft hrs and they certainly don't pay enough either it's barely minimum wage which makes it nearly impossible to save.
House are for living first. 1. No person can own a 2nd home 2. No empty houses 3. No overseas ownership of UK property. 4. You must live in the home you own. Government can change this if the want to.
Lets stop blaming immigrants, the poor and the vulnerable, but lets start looking at the rich and the utter disproportionate wealth across the board....... Even if we had new homes, theres also the issue of being able to afford them - , hmos are on the increase and landlords charge an astronomical rent - that's the real issue here!
Being poor doesn’t make you blameless. What do you mean by vulnerable? This misallocation of compassion without wisdom is causing already poor citizens’ needs and ambitions to be usurped by immigrants. Redistributing wealth will not solve the issue of forced cultural corrosion. This is a deeper issue than money.
I was a construction engineer in the UK for nearly 20 years, based primarily in the North west England. Only a small % of housing is actually affordable so for the most its out of reach unless you have help from family, or a very well paid job. Alot of the housing is also sold before even the first stake is put into the ground. Iv seen entire streets sold to foreign investors from india before, so no wonder the rental market is so expensive. Of housing that is available to people in the UK a good portion of it is taken up by economic migrants, ones where its 6+ people per household. They can afford to take on a house and they all work collectively to get more houses, the standard british person has no chance against this growth model. Iv seen entire towns be taken over by their migrant populations, as a white british you would not venture into these lost zones. If all that wasnt enough to be white in the UK is to be without a voice, the media have done an excellent job in pitting whites against whites, people are very confused. There is also a vast amount of housing stock throughout the UK that is simply sitting dormant, the government and the ones that own the UK land do not want enough housing as it would affect their assets.
As long as currency is backed by property prices, they will absolutely never supply more homes to meet demand. We may own houses one day via inheritance, but since the houses are worth so much, or will be worth so much, none of us can afford the taxes and will be forced to sell, but nobody except housing associations and other rental companies will be able to afford the house. Scrapping inheritance tax before we create a new lost generation of people who can't afford to inherit their parents houses, and end up homeless or in prison and hopelessly indebted to the government via inheritance tax and council tax.
"You vill own nutzing, but you vill be happy." - Klaus Schwab, WEF His prediction is coming true, because they hold all the strings, power, influence and affluenceto make it come true. 😡
Legal migration flood started by the tories when we left the EU. Nearly a million Nigerians and Indians in one year post Brexit 😂. Before it was 300k net with a mixture of mostly Europeans and some other.. Brexit voters have blood on their hands 🙌
Things can only get so expensive, it will collapse the day the money is pulled, it will get pulled, it’s on credit and doesn’t exist in the first place
People have to rely on inheritance now to afford to own a home. But of course there's inheritance tax. It's disgusting. Leave money as a gift to your children! If you survive 7 years after the gift there is no tax.
I think Nigel needs to do some research. I work in C-suite headhunting in construction and house building is on its arse. Theres a new estate being built not 100yrds away from my house and they've been at it for 11 years. No idea where these houses are flying up Nigel
Yes, forget CommonWealth, forget the difference between EU and UK(housing rights/costs for vulnerable citizens), forget the tax gap from high earners to medium/low class which is 0.1-60% and blame whomever you want. Let's start being human and logical and we won't find anyone to point at.
Well, maybe the west (mostly the UK and France initially) shouldn't have redrawn the middle east to be unstable for their benifit. Who would have guessed their would be more effects than cheaper oil.
That ‘every 2 minutes’ stat is utterly meaningless without context. Every 2 minutes from when? Finishing when? Is that factoring in houses becoming re-available on the sales market?
I'm struggling to find a house, even with a generous down payment. It's absolute horse ****. But these dinghy riders are getting free food, housing, money, the lot. I've even seen a video of one of these hotel immigrants with a rolex watch on. Absolutely outrageous. It doesn't help when rich people have multiple homes in the UK when young people can't afford to buy one house
That's a tiny part of the problem
It just got worse with the election of Starmer…
Britain going backwards - along with Canada - Australia - New Zealand - USA and much of Europe.

Nigel is 100% correct
Same in Italy, North of Italy is something like 80% cement

I like Farage a lot but this line he’s using doesn’t work. The maths is predicated on the assumption people don’t die off and vacate their homes
No. It’s done on net migration, which wouldn’t include holidays but it also wouldn’t include brits on holiday or illegal immigrants
I would normally recommend moving to America but somehow even with tons and tons of open greenland we have managed to screw up housing over the last few years as well....
The houses are given out to 2.5 mil illegals per year I assume
The housing crisis is mainly down south and nothing to do or small percentage is to do with migration but for instance in London is due to billions of foreign and domestic cash from investors who buy and hold hundreds of properties and never sell.
The government should limit the number of properties each company buys and holds on to specially foreign investors.
I am Canadian and I am sick of legal and the illegal imagination. Our economy and housing is in the dumps and I am no longer proud to be in a country where my heritage is literally being burnt to the ground.
It's shameful
Ironic how migrants new to the country succeed in life more and faster than the spoiled citizen.
Well they stop other people from getting jobs so any form of citizen can not succeed
Same here in Ontario Canada under the despicable Justin Trudeau so called Liberal government.

Well if you get called a fascist a lot, maybe time to think a bit.
Save our green belt
I suggest you look up what ridiculous plots of land are classed as 'green belts'. A field off to the side of a motorway shouldn't be classed as a green belt. Just save the environment and prevent privatisation of any natural wilderness would be a better idea.
This will be reality for every western country very soon if things don’t change fast enough

Yeah but you’re at least building them for your people… not illegals
My British friend showed me this: In places like the Lake District, every other house is a holiday house, that is owned as a SECOND home by the rich people. You can sometimes see entire villages consisting of houses in which you can't actually live in.
The new bild homes are so expensive, that most locals can’t afford it. Great concept handing out to immigrants new housing as we know that over 70% of them will never work.

Yeah we’re the buffer to the rich.
This isn't just a problem in England, it's the whole world. Very well said, not a single misplaced word in all those facts

@@tanthamanclap....clap, what a champion.
Same in Australia. Ridiculous.
THIS man holds most of the British logic left.
Its happening here in Canada too
Trudeau wants to bring in 1m+ people every year, wants half of them to be immigrants and the other half refugees, and we have nowhere for folks to live. Tent cities popping up in Montreal and Toronto overnight, theres over 50 in Toronto right now, Vancouver is worse. People are leaving war torn countries to come here and sleep on the street. Winter is coming very very quickly
I'm 36, I ain't old, and I remember when this country wasn't like this.
It really sucks here in South Florida too.. been homeless for a year now and 3 kids, jobs don't want to give ft hrs and they certainly don't pay enough either it's barely minimum wage which makes it nearly impossible to save.
House are for living first.
1. No person can own a 2nd home
2. No empty houses
3. No overseas ownership of UK property.
4. You must live in the home you own.
Government can change this if the want to.
Lets stop blaming immigrants, the poor and the vulnerable, but lets start looking at the rich and the utter disproportionate wealth across the board....... Even if we had new homes, theres also the issue of being able to afford them - , hmos are on the increase and landlords charge an astronomical rent - that's the real issue here!
you sure it might not have something to do with the policy makers and politicians *bringing the immigrants in?*
Yes and yet we are still building less houses than we were in the 70s and 80s. He is saying it’s due to migration doesn’t mean it is.
Build housing and enforce that all housing sales are priotitised for the indigenous British only.
And what do our politicians do NOTHING x
Let them live on the streets. There was never accommodation for our families. They knew that yet still came.

Why does it feel like “legal immigration” should be in quotes? Is it because the citizens don’t get to choose?
It's happening in every western country. Great replacement
At least he’s talking about legal migration. Maybe he will mention the indigenous British becoming a minority by 2060 too

The Brits have a certain level of tolerance and when they push back there will be a lot of houses available.
Yes, forget CommonWealth, forget the difference between EU and UK(housing rights/costs for vulnerable citizens), forget the tax gap from high earners to medium/low class which is 0.1-60% and blame whomever you want.
Let's start being human and logical and we won't find anyone to point at.
There are new houses popping up everywhere. But normal people can’t afford them
It’s simple.
It is horrific! Even in Victorian times, employers provided accommodation for workers.
I'm sure people would if they could afford it
Well, maybe the west (mostly the UK and France initially) shouldn't have redrawn the middle east to be unstable for their benifit. Who would have guessed their would be more effects than cheaper oil.
Exactly what are we paying taxes for? I thought to ensure our lifestyle and rights to a better life on our country. Not bad management.
That ‘every 2 minutes’ stat is utterly meaningless without context. Every 2 minutes from when? Finishing when? Is that factoring in houses becoming re-available on the sales market?
New houses, fields of solar panels and wind farms. Bye bye countryside.
