As a Canadian vet who joined right after 9/11, I would not sign up today to wear the uniform and would discourage my children from doing so. We don't want to be sent to die defending the borders of countries that mean nothing to us. "Allies" who have never done anything for Canada. I won't die in a field in Ukraine or Romania over a local border dispute, or in the Middle East helping to advance Israel's or America's interests while my own country is flooded with foreigners.
Our "global responsibility 🤡" means nothing until our own room is clean. Our own room is fucking filthy at the moment.

At my daughter's elementary school remembrance day ceremony, the principal went on and on about how people who died in war are NOT heroes and there's no glory in war. And they had honored members of the military in full garb there. Couldn't believe how disrespectful it was. But now you know why young people won't sign up to fight, it's being taught right in the schools.

the country lost all sense of character awhile ago it hasn't been this divided in some time and most of this is from the country's lack of direction and feeding into other countries desires saturating the population with people of all different mind sets and predominantly ones who could care less about the long term stability of this country's growth/people and more about other places no majority body in Canada has noticed or cared about the state its been in for over 30 years I personally don't see any change for better until a new power ends up moving in and pushing the change like with most of the worlds major issues dramatic situations are what push change humans dont switch things up in calm collective ways were a sound mind influences everyone its always a war or something similar to one but if majorities would learn on a global scale that those methods dont last then perhaps they would as one unite for a globally better situation but again just wishful thinking at this point its never happened in the past and it never will in the future with populations being this high the higher the global body count the lower the quality just my opinions on the general state of things

    • @RyanMacWee
      @RyanMacWee 2 місяці тому

bullshit, how is a country full of Canadian Nationalists and patriots going to help us? Is it because you want to force everyone to think and behave the way you want them to? You are no better than the woke liberals.
The internet has shoved us all into echo chambers (via "the algorithm"), which has led to everyone becoming radicalized to the point where the right thinks the left is the downfall of society and vice versa. The solution is inter-dialogue, its as simple as that. Once you see that the other side is not some scary movie villain enemy of pure evil, and see them as people. Then we can inter-dialogue and this will result in the more extreme ideas on both sides being challenged.
But now we have it so that you can only voice extreme opinions from the left side publicly because that echo chamber is easier for corporations to sell to their audiences. And yes, they have demonized right leaning views just as the right demonizes the left, which is wrong. But the solution is in both sides de-radicalizing themselves and allowing opinions of other sides to challenge them. The only way this will be achieved is individually, we must individually realize that we have become radicalized and put in the effort to de-radicalize ourselves.
The solution is not forcing nationalism and conservative patriotism any more than is the solution to force wokeness on everyone.
We all have to live in this society together, so we have to consider all of our opinions. But "the algorithm" shoving us into echo chambers has been the single worst thing to happen globally to humanity. Most people are too blinded to see that we live, right now, in a dark age; the opposite of a golden age. And it is so bad that people think we are close to a golden age, just only need to enforce their ideology on everyone then we can enter it. Both the right and the left feel this way. This means most people are trending towards fascism regardless if they are right or left leaning. We are in dark times indeed

It's Representational Democracy at it's finest. If only we had 1001 ways of asking Canadians what they think and want. Candidate usual spout crap, from memorized talking points, lie about what they'll do once elected, deny everything brought up concerning who they are, what they've done, and what they intend to do, by resorting to the usual accusations of isms, ists, and phobias. Then once elected they ignore their electorate and force their personal beliefs and "projects, down peoples throats. They act like trust fund babies splurging on everything they desire while robbing the taxpayer blind to pay for it while the country, the infrastructure, and systems all deteriorate. Billions disappear while they, their families, friends and "fellow travelers" become overnight millionaires. Then an election rolls around and we get to support a selection of prescreened and vetted true believers selling whatever snake-oil their parties selling.

U.S. citizen here. I lived in Vancouver B.C. In the early part of the century for three years. I was always kind of bemused by the Canadian attitude that Americans are a bunch of unenlightened warmongers, while Canadians are enlightened and peaceful. At the same time Canada spends way less of its GDP on Defense, and in fact depends heavily on the fact that the U.S. is militarily strong and will not allow an invader to attack Canada because it would put the U.S. a vulnerable position. So you guys get to spend a lot more percentage-wise on your public infrastructure than we do in the U.S. You also benefit from the fact that the U.S. does contribute to international alliances, for example, to deter terrorism and maintain open trade on the oceans. I don’t think you can say, as some Canadians are wont to do: “People don’t respect us as they should,” and also refuse to do your part to maintain peace in the world.

Now the US doesn't get enough money out of all this anymore. This is why it suddenly pushes its allies to arm up.

As a retired Vet with over 24 years service I find our current military state a complete disgrace on the national and international stage. I joined in the mid 80s when we all had one uniform and if you were 5 minutes late for parade you were charged with no questions asked. People thought it was harsh but we all knew the rules and we agreed to obey them as serving our country was more important than our personal freedom and comforts. We were broken down as individuals and built up as a team. You could bet your life that whoever shared your trench would sacrifice his/her own life to save yours. There was a real sense of commraderie. Inside the military we always had our internal fights of which trade was better than the other and disagreements would even end up in fist fights, however; those same two service people would put away their differences and would join forces should a 'civi' (non military person) disrespect our military. It was tough to say the least but the military was our family. So much so that even after retirement, I'm more military than civilian. The Canadian Armed Forces was a career and a way of life, not a job. Today is completely different. I was so proud of our military I used to do a lot of recruiting but now I discourage everyone from joining. I once suggested to my kids they should join but now I'm glad they didn't. Our military is an utter disgrace. For the most part it's no longer a family but a whole bunch of civilians going to work at a job. Because of budget cuts over many years, pay freezes, and recruiting freezes, this has left us with a very slim military and managers (I call them managers because I don't see a lot of leading going on) are willing to look the other way on a lot of Code of Service Discipline infractions in fear of being second guessed by their chain of command or even disciplined for hurting someone's feelings. (I've seen this done. Anyone remember the Red Card days?). This has led to a power shift change from commanders to the lower ranks and you can see where this has led us.

Along with this we are having issues with recruitment for our military, young people don't want to sign up and current personel are leaving in droves. The way we are told to hate our own country, told we stole this land and it's not ours at every turn, why the hell would they want to? We have China on our door step, chomping at the bit to attack Taiwan and we are woefully under prepared with the type of modern warfare that would go on. "He who wants peace, prepares for war." This saying is forgotten by many western countries. They have become complacent. Its people living the illusion peace will last forever and the unwillingness to defend that which the forefathers fought so hard for, often times with their lives. But that ís life, that ís reality. Sacrifices need to be made. Canada has a vast border in the north and with the ice melting it has to face Russia and China in the future . China who has been spending huge amounts of money on its military power since the 90s, Russia as well, Iran and others too. Many western countries have been relying on the USA for far too long in case of something happening and vice versa. The allies have contributed in wars started by the USA.
Within the Alliance many allies have however neglected their own armed forces. The latter being in the same sorry state of affairs like before WWII. An aggressor always pushes on, like the bully who when not stopped, rules your world. Neutrality is out of the question with countries not respecting sovereignty and borders. History has proven this several times. But a strong army is necessary as well in case of domestic calamities. Then there is the trouble of cohesion in society nowadays with so many enemy migrants, because when push comes to shove many of them will be disloyal to their host countries. Western countries face many challenges and cannot affort to be lenient.

Ask yourself: what's the point of a military? Or, perhaps, what *should* the point of a military be, in a society where there is a government of, by, and for the people? Probably, the point of a military in such a society should be to make the people of a country as costly as possible to murder or enslave. Now, ask yourself, what's the point of disarming the populace of a country? If you take politicians at face value, you probably think it's public safety. Unfortunately, there seem to be a direct correlation between disarmed people and high violent crime rates or government tyranny (or both). It seems that disarming the populace serves only to make them easier to murder and enslave. Bearing that in mind, why have both a military and civil disarmament in a "free country"?

Great i dont consider those battleships, air craft carriers, battle groups ready to fend off China and Russia in tne North, or ready on our coasts. PM has openly talked about the number of military trucks, and stiff sent to the Ukraine border. Hes never talked about the program to replace equipment here in country.

@hermanvanstaden3758 the RCMP? You know they have several divisions as a police force. Federal roles in narco tics, and so federal policing. Local policing in se real provinces is another division. They also have the division like the American " fbi" that includes protection of federal politicians, federal guests, and national security. Then we have CSIS, our version of CIA. So the mounted brigade u mention is a ceremoniously group that do dusp.ays around the country. And include guarding national moments. In the red serge. Otherwise they wear olive green. They aren't military, nor do they " go to war".

I love the elegance of window AC unit in the back... really ties in Canadian theme. I came to Canada 27 years ago and watch country decline steady the entire time, and it's getting worse. Last thing canada needs to worry about is foreign conflict, it's a failed state that's spiraling down. If Canadian politicians can conquer a price of cheese and eggs one day, then they can start talking about foreign wars... not going to happen, Canadian politicians fly high

A couple of random thoughts on this.
The first is that when the Liberals were elected in 2015, my interpretation is that there was high hope at the time that figures like Harjit Sajjan, Andrew Leslie, or Marc Garneau would have been pushing hard to advance this file in the name of liberal civic nationalism.
What we got, however, was a near decade of an ultra-progressive government akin to New Democrats where giving short shrift to the military for expanded social programs and a fattened civil service goes with the territory.
My other point is the lack of serious self-awareness among Canadians about the historical context of their own country. The fact is that Canada as a nation-state is and always will be an outpost of Great Britain and a country born out of the Royal Proclamation of 1763 and the American Revolution under King George III.
That we even have a country from coast to coast to coast has much to do with favourable historical circumstances under favourable/friendly great powers like the U.S. and UK throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
John A. Macdonald's establishment of the Dominion of Canada to counter a growing American dominance in North America happened at the height of British power while the post-WWII establishment of the United Nations, NORAD, and NATO happened at the height of American power.
If the international structure either shapes favourably toward the leadership of hostile countries or if the great powers of which we ally ourselves themselves turn hostile, Canada's situation will become quite dire because we are not self-sufficient on national security. Never have been.

Canada will never have a true expeditionary military force without a blue water navy with at least two aircraft carrier battle groups (preferably three) until then they will have to rely on the U.S. and NATO.

Pierre Poilievre is a man I can see and trust as a prime minister. I never voted for Trudeau, because when I heard he wanted to focus on allowing drugs to be legalized.. Huh. Not the greatest start for his ruling. And see 9 years later, we got drugs addicts everywhere. Our freedom of speech is literally penalized by the law. And drugs den are obviously rising from all this time.
All for the sake of making the true citizen of canada becoming more miserable and the foreigners vote for Trudeau because they go in our country for that matter. Trudeau love making other people trust him, but does us true canadians trust him?
No, we will never. He brought us in debt, took many lives in his regimen and laugh at us for it. But like any butterfly that cause hurricanes..
Trudeau will get what he did to us. I hope Pierre Poilievre solve everything swiftly and that Trudeau get caught in
any rightful case of justice, and making him pay. Not from money, but by the time of his life. Many people I know, are dead because of his decisions.
