    Thank you for making these videos. It gives us beginners inspirations from other runners like yourself. I ran the Houston Marathon as my first marathon. It was not a great experience as I was not prepared for the cold weather and winds. The last 6 miles I was telling myself I'l never run another marathon again. Now that I rested, I'm thinking of running it again and have a better experience.

      I remember from your other comment that you ran in what felt like a freezer. I hope your next experience will be better. Maybe a different Marathon that isn't in the winter? Thank you for watching this video too. Marathon training is hard...

      It is unbelievably boring! If I lived anywhere else I could probably run outside. Where I used to live I would run in the dark through the whole of winter, but where I am now it's just too dangerous in a way and very likely I would end up twisting my ankle. Not worth it. The days are getting longer though so hopefully no more treadmill runs for a while 🤞 Are you training for anything specific?

    I'd invest in a good treadmill if you want to continue running even after the marathon. We bought a commercial treadmill from Norditrack (about $2000-2500 at the time) about 10 years ago but ended up giving it away about 2 years ago since it started making too much noises. We were too lazy to get it fixed and we thought we used it well enough. Definitely got more use out of it than a luxury handbag. Commercial ones are much wider and quieter than the home usage ones, probably similar to the ones you find in a good gym. I used to run 10 miles a day on it for awhile during the winter months especially when we were snowed in. I also ran early morning (3-5 miles) a day as soon as I wake up before going to work. I know some people don't like running on the treadmill but I did not mind it much. I was still able to wear shorts and tank tops running in the middle of winter. I also heard some people even run a full marathon on it while watching a live marathon on TV. We are looking into buying another one soon since it's hard for me to run during the weekdays and if it rains outside during the weekend.

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  8 місяців тому +1

      I'd like a treadmill just for situations like this one. Luckily my local gym does day passes so I can pay to use the gym for one day instead of paying for a whole month or year. I think it's worth investing in a good treadmill of you're going to get one. It's a bit of an expensive luxury item though and I still prefer to run outside if I can. Also, homes in the UK are quite small (what I can afford anyway), so I don't have the space for a treadmill, unless you have a garage that's attached to your home that also has power. It's not really an option for me at the moment but in an ideal world it would be great. Are you running at any events this year and how's Chloe?

    • @Sandra-bq3vm
      @Sandra-bq3vm 8 місяців тому +1

      @@YuennyLam I see, that makes sense. Treadmill does take a lot of space. We used to have it in our living room, and I did not like the way it looked. I guess I can fold it and store it away, but since we used it regularly, we just left it there. Garage would not work for us since we have two cars and there is no additional room for a treadmill. I definitely prefer running outside, but if its dark, raining, or too cold, it is good to have the option to run inside. I also don't run after work even if it's not dark yet because I don't want to leave Chloe by herself again at home. Chloe is doing okay. Her health is up and down. I do appreciate you asking about her. I was telling my husband yesterday how nice it is to have someone in the other side of the world who I have never met knows Chloe and asks about her. Chloe is blessed. Thank you. I hope your baby is doing well as well. I will probably look into running a few races this year away from where I live since I don't really like small local races. I did come across Rock N Roll Half Marathon in Washington DC in March, and I might just do that.

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  8 місяців тому

      @Sandra-bq3vm Even garages are too small for cars here as cars are getting bigger. You have to be really wealthy to have double garages most people just leave their cars parked outside all the time. It definitely is a good option as a backup. I'm hoping I'll be able to have that one day. A little room enough space for a treadmill and weights to do workouts. I know what you mean about not wanting to leave Chloe. I feel the same whenever I go to work having to leave Pepper boy. Then when I do go for a run after work I have to leave him again and by the time I come back I don't have a lot of time to spend with him. I work from home two days a week now though so I get to spend a bit more time with him sometimes in the week. I think I just really care about animals and their wellbeing so it's nice knowing she's doing okay. Small local races are nice to support and do occasionally but bigger races are really exciting. Don't think I told you but I actually got a place to run the Chicago Marathon this year 😊 One of the six World Marathon Majors. Exciting but scary 😬

      @@YuennyLam Wow, so will you be running in Chicago this October? Is that the one that you are currently preparing for or would that be your second marathon? I almost ran that over 10 years ago but we were not able to go there at the time. I have a friend who lives in Chicago so it is something that I am still thinking of. I heard that the course is pretty flat so it will be a good one. Glad to hear that you get to work at home two days out of the week. My husband is able to go to work just before lunch time, so at least Chloe is not home all day from 8 to 5. That will be awful for her. Best of luck with your training!

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, Chicago this October. It'll be my second Marathon. I'm currently training for my first one in April here in the UK. Once I (hopefully) finish my first I'll have a small amount of time to have a little break before I start training for Chicago. Maybe this year is your year to run Chicago 😊 Good Chloe isn't home alone for too long. I don't understand when people have dogs and leave them home alone all day. Those people shouldn't be allowed to have dogs. Cats are different. Pepper can be home for hours a day, even overnight he'll be okay, as long as there's food, water and toilet. I wouldn't leave him for longer than one night away or no longer than 24 hours. Let me know if you're running Chicago 😊

      @YuennyLam  8 місяців тому

      Yeah. I listen to podcasts on long runs outside usually, but I was rushing around trying to get the run done so didn't bring my headphones. I think treadmill-running is just more boring but not listening to anything just made it a bit worse. Do you run on a treadmill or do you rather be outside?

      I@@YuennyLam I run on pavement, trail, and treadmill. I only have a preference if it's a nice day out - then I would rather run outside. Otherwise, I don't mind the treadmill.

      @@broncotrail Treadmills aren't too bad. When I first started running a long time ago I always did my training on a treadmill. Until I've learnt that the outside world isn't actually that scary 😄 And now I love running outdoors. Trail running is fun but I still prefer road/pavements.
