You are the only reason the paint had a outstanding finish. It is called experience !! As soon as you sprayed your 1st coat of clear and I saw how straight the lines were from the reflection on the lights I could tell it's your control of the gun. well done sir.
Nice. LONG ago when i was a kid at 12 i worked with my dad in our gerage already rebuilding engines and all sorts of mechanics. My first pot gun i can remember getting to spray primer or base, but never sealer or clear on projects. I didnt really get the urge to paint for a living altho i can. I've had many paint guns over the years. Back in the mid-late 90's i had a fancy 300$ gun and i thought i was the best painter around until one day....i discovered the 12$ paint gun from harbor freight (now over 20$). Something happened that day in our gerage that turned my painting skills from hard work to less hard work. At 16yrs old I could then paint a show car with ease at any time if i wanted to. I used this gun for the next 15yrs, buying a new one every so often when i had a big project. My dad passed on about 8 yrs ago. If it's one lesson i learned. Expensive is not better other than the long term style materials. I could buy 10 of my cheap guns for the price of my 1 expensive gun. Long story a little shorter. I still use that cheap gun for primer and sealer or high build. Now i use the fancy 129$ spectrum hvlp for base, pearls, metallics. I only use my black widow HTE for clear coat. For me any day is a special day when i get to break out the black widow. If it breaks i can run down to harbor freight and its in stock. Fellas take my advice and learn to paint great with cheap stuff. Then if you want special fancy stuff go for it! That's what we work for. Nobody here in 2024 has to learn how to paint with a suction pot gun @50- 75psi. I bet i went thru 20 gallons of paint before i figured it out. The experience is what you're looking for. Not fancy price tags and names. This video was fantastic thank you!
For $200 its really good. It sprays nice and its built well. I have no regrets. Its probably a better base gun than for clear. It can spray clear fine its just kinda slow with thicker clears. Its a good DIY/begginer gun or a beater gun in a shop.
I have aĺl three Devilbiss DV1 guns and I will say that basecoat gun puts base down better than anything i ever used and i switched from Walcom Genesi 369 light hte over to them. Especially with metallics and pearls. I like the DV1 clear gun but its too slow for some jobs so i recently bought the Porphis prd-715 1.3mm for a faster clear gun and the hype on it was real and is only $250. Puts clear down 3 times faster with fine atomization like the DV1-C with a fan pattern that opens up to 16".
Don't get me wrong, I love my DV1 Base! But price for price... definitely black widow, especially if it's not my job everyday but I still use the black widow everyday!
Hello brother, am a painter in South Africa and after watching your review on this black widow and that of mario, Brian, I thought to myself it's time to upgrade but the problem is the harbor freight website doesn't ship internationally... Hence i need your help, reach out lets make arrangement on how i can get it in south africa. Thanks
What paint color or code is that you put on your bike fender Cody? That color is gorgeous!!! I’m gonna paint my Coach this summer and have been wanting something real similar to that for my stripes and graphics and I think that color would be perfect!! Really nice job brother, you earned a new sub here!!
It's just a basic black with a really heavy pearl midcoat!! Super simple ! The color is awesome, everyone loves it on the bike , beautiful color! And thank you for the sub! I greatly appreciate that!
Hey Cody if I wanted a gun for longevity even if I just use it sparingly should I just buy an iwata or sagoloa, I want to go get the black widow but I only want to buy something once, should I spend more you think or $900 for a gun I would use maybe a few times a month is overkill
Great question, im a lead Painter at a collision center, I use the black widow as my base gun, every single day. So I would recommend buying one for everyday use , even once or twice a month! I bought the $700 DV1 base gun, the black widow holds up against it! Save your money for a while until that black widow makes you enough money to buy what you REALLY want
@@That1CodyHenderson Thanks for your advice bro, also just checked this gun comes in 1.3 and 1.7 only, but they are seperate guns, what should I do if I want to spray primer or sealer or heavy metallic base coats get another dedicated gun just for those or can the 1.3 cover it, Thanks for your time...
I use the black widow for sealer and all my metallics!! As far as primer, get you the cheap purple gun from harbor frieght , itll be fine for primer, can also use the black widow for clear, make sure you get the HTE 1.3 tip

Well I'm very very small in the YT world, my opinion isn't based off anyone else opinion or a sponsor, I just purchased a luma exodus clear gun.. I will be making a video on that , once I get a few hours with it
@@That1CodyHenderson gotcha. So what do u think about a aeropro r500 for a first gun? I just purchased it. Is it good enough or should I just get a black widow?
@@That1CodyHenderson And how is the end product still that shiny even after you sanded it to get the trash out? Didn't you take some of the clear off? How does buffing alone bring the shine back without having to re-clear that spot?
@@That1CodyHenderson awesome for you but I like to be able to use different tips and if something breaks. I like to know that I can get parts for it. You keep making that money
Harbor Freight has an absolutely great warranty system (it’s how they got a lot of their customers in the door to deal with the lower quality of 90% of what they carry). Just buy the 2 year warranty up front and if you need a replacement part, they’ll just give you a whole new gun and reset the warranty clock.
hey man what psi and settings are you using? I see alot of overspray from overlaps when clear coating with it. spraying at about 30 psi but it still doesnt feel like enough air
Usually run fully open fan, 2.5 turns out on fluid, 25 psi, if your getting too much fluid, turn it in some. Get a nice " I " Pattern. Also depending on how fast your spraying also your overlap and distance
@@dandee28your always gonna see what looks like a ton of overspray on clears vs base coat color, it’s the nature of the beast. I typically spray mine at 25-28 psi but watch my surface to see what my pattern is telling me it wants. Am I atomizing ok? Is it flowing out like glass after I lay it down or am I holding texture (orange peel)? Your finish will tell you what adjustments need to be made but you shouldn’t ever need to go above 30psi on your cap

The black widow HTE is hard to beat for clear are base but I use my regular spectrum HTE for base,

Still continuing to use it, good for it's price !
Paintball guns are just one part, skill is still the most important ☺️

What size tip and what pressure for the base coat metallic?
