@denttech8447 One person mentioned replacing the swivel with a Devilbiss AD-31 fitting. Not sure if that is truly an option. For what it's worth, Mario from Mario Paint Class said he noticed the Black Widow has some similarities to the DV1.
I used a harbor freight HVLP purple paint gun to paint a sebring gold once. Was my first time painting. The car came out mint. It's all about preparation.
I am confused, I see in the video, he said to change the coupler fitting to the HLVP fitting. He didn't mention what type of air compressor he used, So is this new spray gun in the video is a HLVP spray gun, do you have to use a special HLVP air compressor, or can you use any regular air compressor. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but this is all new to me. Thanks
@@phototec you can use any air compressor but you want one with higher level of cfm or at least more gallons so it can keep up with the air you will be spraying out the gun. The reason he said to use a HLVP fitting is because it has a bigger opening so more air can go to gun so you would want that fitting on your air compressor, both ends of the hose, and the gun. You can also get those fittings from harbor freight, they are called Merlin High flow quick coupler. Ps. He probably didnt mention the air compressor because he is in a paint shop and has a crazy good air compressor that nobody at home would ever have.

My 2 cents on the longevity: I've had the 1.0 for a year and a half now spraying sealer every day on an average of 6 or 7 jobs a day. The sealer I use is an old school epoxy thinned to desire. I LEAVE the epoxy in my gun over night/over weekends and clean it the following morning (don't judge me I'm testing this baby out) It has held up well and sprays the same today as it has when I bought it. I get a lot of shit for using a harbor freight gun but I've done over a million dollars worth of collision wprocess. this gun being one little step in the process The black coating on the air cap will come off over time but the gun body coating itself is nearly indestructible

I like the flow out, however, you should show us the finished work, de-masked, out in the sun, multiple angles to verify color match. That would certify your blending skills (which begin with mixing the paint, etc.). I would hire you just for the clean bench in the one shot...and promoting keeping the gun's exterior clean too! I’m a young painter that’s learning something new as the days go by what’s the difference when you use fast medium and slow reducer (thank you for these very informative videos and tips helps me a lot )
1)it effects length of dry(flash) times of your color coats. 2) in metallics, this can have an effect on color. A faster reducer will keep the metallic flakes in more of a "standing" position as the solvent will evaporate faster, whereas using a slower reducer gives the metallic particles more time to "lay down" in a flatter pattern. Since they lay flatter, the sun reflects from a flatter, more uniform manner, where the "standing" metallics will reflect from more random patterns. This will have an effect on color. 3) In single stage paint, it effects flow (how well it lays down absent of peel) Too fast and you risk peel and dry finish. Too slow and you risk runs. That's This why medium is a good starting point. This is a basic overview to help get you started. Any other questions, just ask.
I thank you for your review of the Master Pro Series 44! Thats the one I went with and it has been serving me well. I am primarily a mechanic but now able to do jobs without having to farm, them out.

Its the painter and gun because you can redue shitty prepping anytime and it faster than waiting the next day to repaint. When i use to work at a body shop the painter send back or rejects bad prep.
Duplicating 'factory orange peel'. Never thought I would hear that.... Another informative Brian review. The first paint job(Lacquer) I did back in the early 70's was on a 57' Studebaker Hawk using and old garage sale Craftsman gun and a pretty sketchy old small compressor. Came out pretty good cuz the customer paid me and gave me another job, but in the mean time I painted my 63' Sting Ray roadster which was a prepping disaster as I used a chemical paint remover and it attacked the factory filler. You wouldn't believe how much filler was used on those old Corvette bodies. Pounds and pounds of it. Took a lot of evenings and weekends to fix that mistake.
It looks like he is putting on soooo much clear... What stops it from running? Just moving fast? I'm not a painter but I'm going to paint my turck and i don't want to mess it up.
Nice one. I think a very honest review from Brian and loads of great tips added in for good measure, plus he's also telling us to do our own research. All good advice. Intersting comment here, too!
Brian what’s your thoughts of TCP Globals single stage paint their restoration shop line? I saw you had something with TCP on it in one of your videos lately?
Great review!!! I watch the channel. I paint good but don't do fade jobs like that-only the whole car and only my cars. That is a harder skill tinting mixing and matching repair work. THANKS
Looked for this gun on the shelf like you did and a week or two later I finally asked about it and they came out with. Haven’t been able to spray with it yet but I have high hopes. If that swivel fitting becomes an issue I will either tape it, take it out and weld it or find some other fitting.
Could you do a video of a color blend from the perspective of a DIY guy without the big body shop paint mixing station? Is it even possible for a DIY guy to get a half decent blend with nothing more than the paint code of the car?
This may sound obvious, but the key is to have paint that is nearly a perfect match. Before you put any color on the car, paint and clear a spray out card and compare it to the panel you want to blend. If it’s not nearly identical, try a different variant.
There’s a paint shop near me that will mix paint for you if you give them a piece of the car. I normally send them either a wing mirror cover, or the fuel cap cover and get perfect matches back. Try that for sure man!
Hey Brian, one video I'd like to see you do is, spraying "Steel-It". It's a polyurethane weldable paint used heavily in the motorsports and off-road industry. It's great for things like subframes etc. so far I've seen good reviews about it, especially on how well it holds up to rust. I'd like tos ee your take on it.
Great video. There's one aspect I think you missed. It is not so much th paint gun, or the paint, but more so the experience and skill of the painter. I believe that a skilld painter can make any paint gun work like a professional grade one. That blend looked pretty clean though
I"m new to spray guns, are spray caps universal to guns? I know I can drill out for larger, but it would be nice to have multiple opening sizes. Thanks. I enjoy your content and really helpful for me.
I'm no painter, I've only used a spray gun once in tech school almost 20 years ago. I have used air tools a lot in the 20 years since. I understand why you wouldn't like the guage swiveling right there at the base of the gun. Why not put a short lead between the guage and the gun? I'd think doing that would give the intended manuverability of the swivel while avoiding the annoyance of the gauge moving around right there. Maybe there is a reason that would not be a good idea. I'm genuinely curious since there is a possibility I'll be trying to DIY paint a project vehicle or two in the next few years.
Ur channel is gr8 thank u.i started watching a month ago.and sprayed my candy white vw polo url dont have those cars in usa im 4rm s.a and came out amazing yes few things 2 learn so ill keep watching
I'm sure I'd have to sell my first born, and one of my eyes, to have you paint my pickup? Ha, you're seriously the best! Thank you for all you do, to take us through each step of this overwhelming process! You're a gifted man!!!
I am a painting contractor, commercial and residential, industrial, and 5 years ago i began painting cars and trucks also, so when i use an airless a swivel is a necessity , that would drive me mad on a hvlp gun!
No I do not think this will work well with that. You probably want a LVLP gun but even still a bigger compressor is always better. Get the biggest compressor as possible and a filteration setup.
I am not a painter, but I really enjoyed watching your video! QUICK QUESTION for you, though. I had a car painted many, many years ago, and the bumper was made of plastic. Not very long after painting, I noticed that the paint began to crack and peel off the bumpers - the rest of the car seemed to be ok, though. Could you tell me why that happened?
Used mine yesterday and today using PPG Envirobase. Sealer and paint is realllly good. Clear coat seamed like it lacked the power(i usually use a RP). Curious to see how it holds up. I will continue to use it everyday for sealer and base.
It looks like a lot of shops are no longer running the outline of paper around the spray area anymore. I’ve never liked spraying so close to the plastic but I guess it still works.
This was a fun one to watch! Back in my pro-painting days, my daily drivers where: Devilbiss GTI millennium X2: 1 for basecoats / 1 for clears, SataJet 90, and A Handful of HF Purples [My 1 friend used a Sata-Digital and my 2nd friend used a high end Iwata] *So I've been around top tier guns.. They ran regular autobody/collision shops - I ran a 'custom shop', so they sprayed Martin Senour / PPG and I sprayed PPG / Alsa / Glasurit / H.O.K., One weekend, we each had a project, so went w/ our choice in Paint, but ALL Of US had to use our HF Purples! [Normally they were designated to primer guns for for shooting single stage urethanes] Anyways.. All said n' done, all paintjobs turned out well enough that if given a thorough wet sand / Trizact / buff / polish job, the average person wouldn't have known that they weren't painting using high end / high dollar equipment! 🤘😁 Also, back then [2012ish] I also grabbed a few of HF's airbrushes.. For the most part - They were what you'd expect.. Pretty Good - For the price.. My buddy took all of mine apart, mixed and matched a few components, and came up w/ a Frankenstein.. When used though was Just As Good As My High End Iwata! [I *might actually still have that thing kickin' around]
Hey Brian just so you know the S27 adapter works better than the S9 adapter in the new gun. It has full thread engagement than the S9 only has about 2 threads. Just thought I'd pass along the info because the 1.0 took the S9 but the new one is different
I wish they made a mini gun. I just don’t have a big enough compressor to handle that kind of cfm. (Mostly I’m restoring small antiques like old desk fans and such so a mini gun is fine). I just fought a sata mini jet 4400 off marketplace (new in a slightly water damaged box but it’s perfect!)
First off thank you for all of your videos, recently just found this channel and it’s great. I just purchased this gun for a project at home that I’ll be spraying in a mobile paint booth. I wanted to know if you had some input on a good deep red color to spray that is a solid and a base clear. With the restraints of a mobile paint booth and small compressor and lack of a perfect air line filtration system I don’t want to attempt something 3 stage or even metallic. I feel like I’m already pushing it as it is painting an entire car in an inflatable booth.
Looked for this gun on the shelf like you did and a week or two later I finally asked about it and they came out with. Haven’t been able to spray with it yet but I have high hopes. If that swivel fitting becomes an issue I will either tape it, take it out and weld it or find some other fitting.
For the money this gun is really good. Really good for base. Kinda slow for clear but it gets it done. Atomizes really well. Its a good gun for beginners, apprentices, and for a beater gun in a pro shop
I haven’t painted an auto for about 30 years and my Dodge truck is in desperate need of new paint. Is this gun capable of producing good results on these large panels? Awesome work and advice Sir!

Wouldnt doubt it@@PhyuckYiu1532
A great painter can only do so much with a crappy gun.
Isn't it mostly prep work and then obviously painter skill and lastly the paint gun?
Its the painter and gun because you can redue shitty prepping anytime and it faster than waiting the next day to repaint. When i use to work at a body shop the painter send back or rejects bad prep.
another great vid homie. A true instructor. TY for your review.
The best thing you did was, "...make it look like a factory peel..." The best repair is invisible. Not perfect, invisible.
Brian what’s your thoughts of TCP Globals single stage paint their restoration shop line? I saw you had something with TCP on it in one of your videos lately?
Thanx for the review and demo. Am getting ready to pu 1 of these. Thanx for all your tips 👍👍👍
Great review!!! I watch the channel. I paint good but don't do fade jobs like that-only the whole car and only my cars. That is a harder skill tinting mixing and matching repair work.
THANKS
I like that he said it’s higher end of cheap spray guns and it’s not expensive. That’s cool
Definitely not a fan of the swivel air gauge but it looks like a nice gun to start out with ! Keep up the great paint videos 😁
I'm picking one up tomorrow Oct. 1, '24. They go on sale for $99 for only one day.
Wow thats great !!
Great job as always 👍👊 don’t overthink it … it’s just paint 🎨!
I work for caliber in cali and I’ve been using a black widow and it works great.
You can throw a tac weld on the swivel fiting and it fixes that issue
Your black widow job looked great. What cfm compressor would it take?
I definitely enjoyed the review, which made my decision to buy the gun.
Awesome, just got your paint suit in today can’t wait to try it out.
Thank you so much
Great video!!!! I am going to to look around I’d like to get a suit and I was also wondering what is your top cheap spray gun ??
Nothing like a good paint brush
I use a devilbas finish line and never had a problem.
Nice demo and really like that color. This is a noobie question, but is it possible to use a gun like this with a 6 gallon pancake-style compressor?
No I do not think this will work well with that. You probably want a LVLP gun but even still a bigger compressor is always better. Get the biggest compressor as possible and a filteration setup.
Love my Blackwidow its great
Interesting technique.. it works.. the paint looks great!!!
Brian, you did excellent job and it looks awesome. Can black widow spray gun use for small air compressor with 30 gallon tanks ?
You love that black widow gun from day 1 you've got them 😊😊😊
Very informative I have learned a lot from it.thanks man!!!
Could you tell me why that happened?
looks great did you move in on the volume of paint and jack up the pressure? looks like it
I've heard people say that clear sprays differently from paint so they get two different guns that are best for each
Used mine yesterday and today using PPG Envirobase. Sealer and paint is realllly good. Clear coat seamed like it lacked the power(i usually use a RP). Curious to see how it holds up. I will continue to use it everyday for sealer and base.
I would like to have a piece of sheet metal painted in that color for my work bench.
Very cool.
It looks like a lot of shops are no longer running the outline of paper around the spray area anymore. I’ve never liked spraying so close to the plastic but I guess it still works.
The swivel air connection would be annoying on a gravity gun. I absolutely love it on a pressure feed
This was a fun one to watch! Back in my pro-painting days, my daily drivers where:
Devilbiss GTI millennium X2: 1 for basecoats / 1 for clears, SataJet 90, and A Handful of HF Purples
[My 1 friend used a Sata-Digital and my 2nd friend used a high end Iwata] *So I've been around top tier guns..
They ran regular autobody/collision shops - I ran a 'custom shop', so they sprayed Martin Senour / PPG
and I sprayed PPG / Alsa / Glasurit / H.O.K.,
One weekend, we each had a project, so went w/ our choice in Paint, but ALL Of US had to use our HF Purples!
[Normally they were designated to primer guns for for shooting single stage urethanes]
Anyways.. All said n' done, all paintjobs turned out well enough that if given a thorough wet sand / Trizact / buff / polish job,
the average person wouldn't have known that they weren't painting using high end / high dollar equipment! 🤘😁
Also, back then [2012ish] I also grabbed a few of HF's airbrushes..
Okay great. Thank you!!
That’s incredible. You have skills SR
I wish they made a mini gun. I just don’t have a big enough compressor to handle that kind of cfm. (Mostly I’m restoring small antiques like old desk fans and such so a mini gun is fine). I just fought a sata mini jet 4400 off marketplace (new in a slightly water damaged box but it’s perfect!)
gotta clea nthe booth just like you clean your guns , nice job paint quality top tier
I know that's a really hard color to paint but it didn't totally match to my eye. I think your work look better than the factory paint.
I work for harbor freight the spectrum brand is made by harbor freight. 90% of the tools sold by HF are ‘private owned’ companies only sold at HF
So harbor freight makes tools? Ty ty for the info.
Excellent sprayer made it a great paint job
Nice Job Brian. You knocked it out the park. Sweet color too. 😎
Salute 🫡
Trigga! I seen you do once before a bmw in this color I believe. Thought about you on this one 😀
@@PaintSociety awesome brother another banger. See you in the next one 🤜🏼🤛🏼
😀😀
Use devilbiss AD-31 fitting if u want to delete the swivel inlet fitting.
Thank you for the review!
Very good information thanks for sharing.
For the money this gun is really good. Really good for base. Kinda slow for clear but it gets it done. Atomizes really well. Its a good gun for beginners, apprentices, and for a beater gun in a pro shop
Love your channel. For a DIY guy, whats a compressor you recommend that doesnt slaughter the bank account?
I haven’t painted an auto for about 30 years and my Dodge truck is in desperate need of new paint. Is this gun capable of producing good results on these large panels? Awesome work and advice Sir!
Great work you guys!
