Vincent Li had been diagnosed with schizophrenia after an incident in Ontario a few years before the bus incident. He had been placed in a psychiatric unit for a while and been prescribed medication which he had been taking while on the unit. When he left he chose not to fill the prescription or tell his wife what had happened. This is one of the main reasons people did not want him released and responsible for his meds. This case was absolutely tragic and scary for us Canadians, busses had been seen as a truly safe way to travel. As a side note, since this incident and covid we have lost most bus lines here. This case is used in Canadian University courses for criminology and still is very controversial.
Most cultures look down on people with mental illness, let alone take the time to understand it. Maybe if society didn't treat people with mental illness//austim like that, people with mental illness would feel less ashamed about it and might seek help without fear of shame. No one talks about stuff like that. That's one of the core of the problems in our society.
@@jaylu7021 yes. Absolutely true. However, the magnitude of this crime does place the aftermath in a different position. A man lost his life in circumstances that are absolutely horrific. Schizophrenics have been known to stop taking medication, and Vince Li's crime does not deserve a free pass. The Head of my Secretarial school had a daughter with schizophrenia, she would regularly go off her medication, there is a world of difference between throwing a typewriter out a third floor window and a sustained and incredibly violent attack on another person resulting in death and desecration of the body. How we treat mental illness is absolutely a disgrace. How the authorities have chosen to deal with the aftermath of this case will not help matters.
@@jaylu7021 he proven to be violent when he refused to take his meds. He is a danger to society and shouldn't be given sympathy due to that alone. If he like most people with mental health issues(hell most people with his illness take their meds) just took his meds then people wouldn't be so against him being released simply cuz he never would have murdered and ate someone. Actions have consequences even actions taken when impaired have consequences. To me this is the same thing as a meth head high out of their mind killing someone random due to the drug showing them crazy shit. Vince wouldn't have killed if he was in the right mind aka took his meds just like the meth head wouldn't have killed if they hadn't taken the drugs.
@@sarahjaneheckscher6737 he absolutely should not have been released. They go off their meds all the time as you said . If a break makes him do such horrific things , whose right say the next one won’t do the same thing? He fucking ate someone and taunted them from the bus. He became an absolute monster. This scared me so much as a kid (also Canadian.) it still does. I hate thinking that somewhere so mundane, somewhere like you said you don’t think to worry about your surroundings , can be a place where something such as this occurs-but that’s anywhere at anytime. Fucked.
The guy being interviewed is in a state of shock, look how dilated his pupils are, poor guy. I hope him and everyone else got some therapy... Still one of the worst cases I wish I'd forget, what a terrible way to go... Nice cameo from coffeehousecrime too lol, keep it up my dude.
So it was him (CoffeehouseCrime)! I kept thinking that voice really sound familiar but I cannot pin it down exactly to him because of the dark/sinister tone of the voice. 😅
@@beautifulsurprise9424 hi! I'm sorry but it seems I can't share the timestamps via phone but the voiceovers occurred/started at 5:55 and the other at 13:12. Hope that helps?
The doctor says that he does not show any signs of violence or psychotic breakdown but he didn't show any signs of that before he had his breakdown either so that assessment really doesn't apply. The fact is it's unpredictable what he will do and no one can say what he won't do
I've heard this story plenty of times, but I still can't imagine what it's like being in the same bus when that happened. Poor guy and his family. Edit: Also, that was Coffeehouse Crime, wasn't it? I thought it was Lazy Masquerade at first hehe
I watched this entire videos and didn’t catch it. Can someone please provide a time stamp so I don’t have to rewatch the whole thing again. My two favorite channels. Don’t know how I didn’t catch it.
He ATE someone. He absolutely should not just be walking free. They are correct, the drugs do stay in your system for awhile after you stop, but would anyone in his life notice the slight changes in his demeanor before it went over board again? That i am not sure of. Its a tough situation but I don't think he should just be walking free after literally eating someone.
@@duru5213 The first time he hurt someone, sure, but it seems they really paid attention to him the second time. Six or so years of near-constant vigilance and monitoring his meds seems to have done its job. If he does it one more time, then I wouldn't mind having him institutionalized or watched over for life.
I've also read somewhere that a woman who witnessed this eventually lost custody of her children, since she couldn't take care of them because of the PTSD this guy induced in her. I don't know how true this is.
I rode that same route on the greyhound just a few days before this happened. Shook me to my core. Poor kid. It’s crazy Li has long since been released, which is insane after such a short amount of time.
I can understand the insanity verdict. But showing how his behavior can escalate, he does not need to be outside of a hospital, and back in society. Tim was killed in such a gruesome way, but he never really got any justice. I feel bad for his family.
This horrific incident was basically the end of Greyhound in Canada. A former bandmate of mine was traveling back to his job in the Alberta oil fields after flying out to NYC to hang out with his girlfriend and decided to take a couple of connecting Greyhounds and sleep the whole trip from Southern Ontario to Calgary where he would get picked up by the company bus for the final way to the oil fields. He was ON GREYHOUND 1170!!! He's seen a lot of messed up things and sketchy situations singing in a punk band and working the oil fields but this grisly nightmare really messed him up for a while. The passengers didn't get much longterm assistance with their mega PTSD after a few months either. This clusterfuck legal fiasco and, the far better treatment the murderer received is disgusting and it completely brutalized Tim's family and the passengers of Greyhound 1170. Oh Canaduh!
When I first learned about this case, I was shook to my core - ‘still am. I can’t even begin to imagine how the witnesses felt afterwards. It’s beyond awful.
Many of the witnesses suffer from PTSD, there is a documentary on the case including witnesses, heart-rending to hear them talk about it. It was a CBC special I think.
Being Canadian I think this man should spend the rest of his life in the medical facility under full watch and care. He could have a job at the facility and have visitors as well as chaperoned outings. Personally I do not agree with the majority of our legal system here.
Canada is waaaaaay to soft like the UK he definitely should never be released and should stay in a mental facility. This is a spit in the face of the man he brutally and horrifically murdered and ate. He's a ticking time bomb. And I also do agree that he should be allowed to have visitors and maybe chaperoned outings since he's remorseful and not fully responsible for his actions.
sorry but no. he literally killed and ATE somebody on a bus! the “god told me” excuse us such bs and shouldn’t be allowed. all those witnesses are scarred for life cause of this.
As a veteran, traumatic scenery doesn’t bother me. I like this channel, the dark backgrounds, soothing story time and mystery style presentation. I often listen to these like ASMR videos to drift off to sleep.
Are you immune to blood and death and stuff like that because of war? I talked to a guy that had thrown his ex-partner off a balcony at the third floor, that talked about working at a hospital crematory, having no problem with it, telling me he was a psycho, so he didn't bother with cut off body parts etc. Sounds horrible and horrifying to me.
@@elvenkind6072 some are, some are not. Honestly it’s all in your mindset. Humans can adapt the mind to normalize all sorts of horrific things. For me, if I have time to mentally prepare before and a time to mentally process after, I’m good. My most traumatic event was a motorcycle wreck because I didn’t see it coming and couldn’t process.
@@steeldriver1776 Thanks for answering. And yes, I'm sure people can get used to almost all things. What you say remind me of my half-brother, that work as an Ambulance driver, that he does perfectly fine, but he got some PTSD issues once when he was called out and it was a friend of him from junior school involved in a horrible car accident.
@@elvenkind6072 yes it can happen to anyone at random if the event is traumatic. I have a friend who is also a veteran and has seen some severe things. But his only ptsd is of a jet ski accident he had. He and his girlfriend were riding on a large lake when the motor blew up. Luckily the seat was strong and it threw them without too much shrapnel. He had to swim with her unconscious until a boat picked them up.
I first heard this story from The Disturbing Truth. I'm glad you covered it as well. In this particular case, I don't think he should be out in society. It was just too brutal. I also like that Adrian from Coffeehouse Crimes voiced God. What an awesome surprise!
This was a huge WTF in our city, I'm from Winnipeg and we're still shocked that he didn't get a life sentence. My uncle Derek used to be a peace officer at the Selkirk Mental Hospital before Li was granted the access outside and my uncle used to supervise Vince Li on some occasions. This story we never forgot, Rest In Peace Tim
Absolutely still one of the most disturbing cases I've heard of. Tragic for everyone involved. I only hope Vince has truly been rehabilitated so some sort of positive closure can come of this.
I live in Winnipeg. He is living under a new name. He works and is under medical supervision. His schizophrenia will, of course, always exist, but is being treated, as far as we are aware.
I think a mandatory daily check-in to make sure he’s taking his meds would’ve satisfied both sides. He’s taken the life of a person and to earn his freedom he must show all the proper dedication to avoiding a repeat of the circumstances which led him to bring about this tragedy
He doesn't deserve to be free to live a normal life, I have relatives with mental health problems and if it was my family that did what he did I would strongly be against him living free
Even the sponsors you choose are worth the time. You really impress me. Your video, as always, is an interesting case told from a somewhat sad, wise, yet hopeful person. You seem to have such love for us all. Please take care of yourself. People like you matter so much, especially now.
Why does the guy have to be released totally unsupervised??? Isn’t there another option? Kind of like a lifetime probation thing? Where he has to report to a probation officer once a month. Someone who can monitor him somewhat… at least make sure he’s making his doctor appointments. And taking medication… why not?
It's different in Canada because it's easier for someone to stay on their meds there than it is here in the U.S. However, it seems like the victim's completely forgotten here and that's a shame. It's heartbreaking that his kids will have to grow up knowing what happened to their father. It's such a sad case from top to bottom.
People can be rehabilitated for choices and bad decisions, the guy has a severe medical condition, rehabilitation doesn’t apply to that, only medication and supervision (making sure he takes his meds, and someone to notice if the meds need to be increased or tweaked due to behavior changes) the thing is the meds he’s on now may be working, as time goes on and his body builds a tolerance for those meds (may be a year may be a decade) the meds will gradually become less effective. I’ve dealt with bipolar and clinical depression my entire life. The meds worked and then one day they didn’t. I never noticed the gradual fall off of the pills cuz it happens so slowly. It’s one of those things that you have to accept if you have mental issues. You may not always be able to see the change so someone who knows what to look for is a necessary tool. Seems completely irresponsible for them to not supervise him or keep him in partial custody, and they are most likely not doing him any favors by letting him go free either.
I am fully, FULLY for the release... but really, really hoping we are missing information here in regards to manditory mental health treatment. In my country, you can receive an order that requires you to come to the clinic at the appropropriate intervals (I want to say monthly but I cannot confirm that) to take injections of a longer lasting medication. If you don't show up there are processes in place to track you down which do include police as a last resort. IF this system was in place and IF the clinicians were aware of the severity of the case (aka the ball didn't get dropped via confusion over red tape) then his mental health could be monitored and managed to the best of our abilities. But to be just... left to your own devices. Fuck. I am not in the field, but a close friend is and this is how I learned about the processes in place to ensure medication and treatment is received. My first hand experience is my mother with paranoid schizophrenia who would only ever remain medicated for a few weeks at a time before getting off them while convincing the (lazy) psychiatrist she was all good. Her psychosis was only ever picked up by professionals when her delusions of persecution got to be too much for her and she would talk to a doctor about the ''people coming for her'' etc. Sorry this went on for so long. Thank you for sharing your (admittedly, very personally relateable) story. I just think of what our lives could have been if we had some simple system to ensure we had our meds and they were still working before things went too far downhill. Then apply that same thought process to a disorder like schizophrenia and... jesus.
@@buddywriggles I really wish he would come live with you if you and any other deranged individual who supports his release. It should be no problem since he's safe and just a mentally ill innocent right?
If he ever kills again these doctors should be responsible one way or another people are going to have to start taking the Law into their own hands if they can't get Justice. There's no reason why this man should be let out free.
How sad just sitting on the bus minding your own business & tragedy strikes.🤦🏻♀️🙇♀️💔 Unbelievably sad. RIP Angel 🕊🌾 Thank's Dire for telling this horrific story with facts that are spot on & told with perfection. God bless 👑🙏🏻🕊❤❤
I’m from Canada, and I remember vividly when this happened. Such total shock and disgust that something like this could happen… and so suddenly, as well. I can’t imagine the horrors that the family of the victim and witnesses have to live with for the rest of their lives. So, so sad.
One of my childhood friends was good friends with Tim and worked with him at the carnivals. Everyone had good things to say about him and were deeply impacted by this. It’s one of the greatest injustices that his killer walks free.
I doubt very much that anyone here would argue that what he did was a good thing, or that it was fair to Tim, but do you believe that his killer has a mental illness? Do you believe that people with a mental illness are responsible for their actions? Do you believe that responsibility requires punishment or rehabilitation (both? are they the same to you?)? And finally, do you believe that people with mental illness (or even those without) can be rehabilitated (and if so, what should we do with them once they are)? Sorry I have so many questions.
such a horrific thing that happened, can't believe that this man was ever let out it's like a slap this poor mother's face. I'm shocked at our system 😢
My mom has a friend who was on Greyhound 1170. She was in Canada on a gap year, trying to find herself, figure out what she wanted from life, travel, etc. She only talked to me about what happened once. When she spoke it was like she was a different person, a robot. She only started emoting when she talked about the blood and seeing Tim's decapitated head. And the moment she finished she was okay again, like nothing ever happened. She said it was easier to talk about it, then be left alone to think.
You writing (narration) is really good. You don’t sensensionalize these issues, you don’t use cheap ‘scary’ tactics and above all -you have respectfor the victims.
I am so proud of how far your little channel has come. You're wonderful at what you do and we appreciate all your hard work that goes into researching and making your videos.
So, my grandfather was a schizophrenic. _When_ he took his meds, he was an ok grandad. When he didn't, he thought _everyone else_ was crazy... he also murdered his neighbor, shooting him off of his painter's ladder from across the street with a 12 gauge, in 1987. _He rightly spent the rest of his life in prison_ since he knew his diagnosis, and blatantly ignored his treatment. His choice, his responsibility. So... wtf, Canada?!
Technically, from what I understand, Vince didn't realize he had a mental illness and, for all we know, had never heard of the one he had(I'm not even gonna attempt to spell it) so he thought that the voice really was God. Now, if he decided to stop taking his meds and ignore the treatment while knowing what could well happen and it happens...THEN I say either give him life in a prison or in a respectable Mental Health Hospital.
Just when I thought I couldn't love you more you go and do this video. You handled this disturbing and grotesque incident masterfully. I especially love you getting Adrian, Mr Coffee House crime himself, to do the voice of God. I'm putting in a suggestion for the future. If you need someone to do future cameos might I suggest Mike from That Chapter and Disturban.
As a Canadian I appreciate this thorough coverage very much 💝 We actually reference this event frequently across the country because it was one of the most shocking crimes this country has ever seen. Idk if it's number one, but I feel like it definitely makes top five, y'know? He's usually referred to as "the Greyhound Cannibal" and it literally destroyed Greyhound, they've never recovered their reputation. Tbh I'm left with questions still about why he ate the poor guy. Okay, so God's telling you to kill him because he's an alien... Did God also say murderous aliens are tasty? I don't get the motivation around that part 🤷
It's completely possible his delusions were telling him that he needed to consume the eyes and heart to identify the aliens in hiding while fully destroying the man in front of him. Things can get really twisted in a delusional mind and it's not unheard of for multiple beliefs to be twisted into one. Between what was severed and consumed, all of that poor man's senses were symbolically destroyed after his death.
As a native winnipegger I was dumbfounded to see you covered this case! It’s so cool to see someone who isn’t from our humble often forgotten part of Canada talk about us! This was a great video! I’m dead at the mispronunciation of some of the places tho lmao! If you want to do another case from around here I reccomend the Tina Fontaine case, speaks volumes about the mmiwg2s crisis here esp in Winnipeg (known for being one of the most dangerous places per capita in Canada, esp for indigenous peoples) as well as the cfs/cps mismanagement crisis and how interconnected the two subjects are! Truly a sad case, especially in light of the TRC calls to action
Wow never been this early! Just got lucky! As always, amazing video! This story is just so sick… It’s one of those situations that you can understand the outrage on both sides. And makes you think about the morality of it all. Also love the coffee house crime cameo lol
Hey is that Adrian (Coffeehouse Crime) helping you out? So awesome, more collabs would be great but more of you both of you is always great! Great job on this btw, already knew the story but this was presented In such a cool way and of course I learned new things as always!
Haven't seen anyone else point it out, is that Coffeehouse Crime speaking the "voice of God" quotes? LMAO That caught me off guard but put a smile on my face. Great content as always :) Edit: Of course right after typing this I find someone else who mentioned it already, typical!
To me it sounds like some professional should continue to have regular check ins with him for him to be released like that. I like to believe that people can be rehabilitated too, but with the severity of what he did I don't think they should risk him falling through the cracks. Also it was really cool to hear coffeehouse crime in your video!!
I’m sorry but that man should not be free. Canada y’all definitely failed on that. At best he should’ve served 20-30 yrs in a mental hospital and then on to live in a supervised group home for the rest of his LIFE. You do not leave a schizophrenic unsupervised in that way. No disrespect but people with schizophrenia cannot control their thoughts without their meds. Hell people without schizophrenia probably find it hard to control their thoughts too BUT that’s all the more reason for that guy to be in permanent care. I love how the one guy is like yeah it stays in your system for a couple of weeks like that was somehow reassuring since at any moment after that he could turn, without provocation, homicidal! RIP Tim you suffered horribly!
As someone with a psychosis, I'd like to set the record straight. If you've never had it, it is hard to understand. It is outside your scope of experience. Think of the worst, most horrific nightmare, you've ever had. One where you are terrified, ceaselessly. Got it? Good. Fix that in your mind. Now, imagine that you can't wake up from that. You are stuck. Nothing makes sense, and you have no ability to make that nightmare leave you. There is no one to help you, and you have zero clue on how to stop that constant, mind numbing terror. That is a psychotic episode, for the most part. They come in varying degrees. The vast majority of us who suffer (and, yes, it is suffering, its awful), with psychotic symptoms, are not at all violent. There is likely a billion of us, you just don't know it, to look at us. Obviously with cases like this, that are sickening, and shocking, they get the most media attention. However. People often miss the point. It is an illness. We cannot control that. I always find it irksome that we are judged more harshly than say a man who kills or injuries his partner out of jealousy. That people who sell drugs, that ruin others' lives, are not looked at with the same level of visceral panic, as are those with mental illness. Those people, do it for money. Willingly, and with conscious decisions to do so, they destroy countless others. We spend a long time suffering, often in slience, and panic, only to be judged when something like this pops up. Vince, will hate himself. He is probably disgusted, and traumatised as well. Feeling thst he does not deserve to live, after doing such a heinous thing. There is no one to blame, here, and it is unfair to blame him. It is the same as blaming someone who has a heart attack, or an epileptic seizure, for their symptoms. Chemical imbalances in the brain, are the root cause, and once those are sorted, he will be very, very unlikely to do it again. If he misses one dose of meds, he's not going to immediately go and try to eat someone. Use some logic. Symptoms will take much longer to appear, and he will have a support system in place, like I do. It would have to be weeks, or even a couple months, until they are gone from his system. It is not done by choice. It is not a conscious decision made. He deserves a chance to recover, and live his life. If someone developed sepsis, and lost a limb, would you begrudge them the right to get a prosthetic limb, and go through rehab? No. You'd wish them the best with their struggles, feel sorry for their situation. I know, it is scary for people. However think of the amount if people who shoot one another for various dumbass reasons. Robbery, anger, jealousy, controlling behaviours.... nothing, is ever going to bring poor Tim back. He did not deserve the attack, was totally innocent, and had his life ended. People want to find someone to blame: but Vince, shouldn't be it. I live a totally normal life, to outside appearances. For the most part? I am normal. I have family, a partner, and so on. People and pets to love, and care for. My condition, makes me even more thankful that anyone can love me, at all. I expected to be alone, and miserable, until I probably ended up taking my own life in desperation, or during one of my episodes. THAT, is usually what happens with mental illness. People take themselves out of the equation, because they just can't endure it, anymore. If you have questions, I'll answer them. But what I would encourage most, is, read up around it. If you can spend half a day watching videos and crap on Tiktok/Facebook, use some of that time to actually bother to be better educated on what mental illnesses actually are.
A lot of people on medication like that usually end up stopping the treatment because they don't like the side effects. It's truly horrible how he is walking free, especially with what he did.
People don't want to accept it but people with significant mental health issue need 100% supervision either in a facility or appropriate services. I've see to much death and destruction because people "felt sorry" for others with mental health issues. It's a terrible thing to suffer but doesn't excuse from the destructive behaviour, everyone needs boundaries and structure to manage their personal needs this is no different. the problem now is financing the support people need to ensure they take their meds to be able to cope and integrate into society. This guy's mother understood that fully.
I remember this incident. During the time of this attack, I used to take long distance bus trips across our country. I know this was in Canada, but close enough. I was super nervous there’d be someone behind my seat who would do this. For a while, I used to slouch forward so that I could protect myself better.
I remember comments on this story judging the other riders for not doing anything. Because as we all know, when riding a greyhound bus on a long haul everyone is at the utmost attention and never doing things like I dunno, SLEEPING.
I kept thinking about what I would do in that situation, and after really considering for a time, I've decided I have no effing clue how I'd actually react. I know enough about shock to know that. There are times my reactions have helped everyone and there are times I've been physically paralyzed with fear. None of us truly know until we are there.
@@NinjaGrrrl7734 Me too. I’m not a very strong person and hearing this case and the witness, I feel like I’d be frozen in shock. Then I’d call the police. The man was armed.
I think that the authorities are being disengenous. At the end of the day Vince Li murdered Tim. Not just murder his crime had profound consequences on every person who came into contact with that crime. Tim's family will never be free of what happened to him. One of the officers took his own life, a direct consequence. In England we have Broadmoor. It's an asylum for the criminally insane. I cannot help feeling that such a place would be a far better solution than the free pass that Vince Li has received and surely a protection for the public.
i think i heard this case before in another channel but i can't remember which channel it was, the other one explained the case like it was some kind of fever dream and quite hard to understand, thanks for explaining it in a more detailed way
That freeze-frame of the eyewitness as he's being interviewed - whether intentional or not - really captures the look of fear on his face. The whites above his eyes showing, the uniformly raised brow, the wrinkled forehead. He's witnessed something alright. Something life-changing. He ain't gonna be sleeping easy for a while.
I have mental health issues. I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety for many, many years. I fully understand how much your thinking and personality change when you try to live life without any medication. Luckily, I don’t become violent. Vince Li will and, believe me, he will try to live without his meds and Someone else will lose their life.
he should definitely be subjected to monitoring for the rest of his life, because he killed someone, VERY violently. even if he’s recovered and he’s medicated now, he needs to have someone holding him accountable on that because it’s always better to be safe than sorry
🥺 This is an awful crime that must have been terrifying. I can’t imagine the pain & trauma that his poor family has endured. Psychosis from severe mental illness is a terrible, terrible thing. 😔
This is the best I've heard this case explained. As someone who has schizoeffective and bipolar disorder this one is a little hard to listen to. On one hand I see how being untreated and in psychosis you don't know what's happening. I've had hallucinations that feel so real but they are absurd and silly that I know it's not if that makes sense. I didn't know that until I was diagnosed though. That being said. As someone with this disability if I ever did anything to hurt someone. In psychosis or not. I wouldn't want to be let out. I would never trust myself again. Imagining it ok this scale for a mentally stable or mentally ill person. I just can't imagine it. Knowing that he's so reliant on these meds now to be functionally safely is scary. Cause meds stop working. Some needs adjustments. The pharmacy runs out of that med and sometimes you go without that's out of your control. Not all mentally ill are monsters though. I know it's scary but many of us are very self aware of our symptoms and such. Idl mental health is wild. Sorry for the rant. Love your videos and coffeehouse crime so much. Nice seeing yall work together! You two are my favorite channels. You always are so respectful of the cases you give us. I've been loving seeing your channel grow. Anyway sorry for the long rant.
As someone with schizophrenia you took the words right out of my mouth. He definitely should be monitored to make sure he stays on the meds and that the meds don't need to be altered in anyway. The fact that they didn't at least keep him in some sort of halfway house or in a setting where he had personal freedom but could also ensure that he was remaining medicated and stable kind of blows my mind.
@@pixystixnfairycrack yeah other countries justice systems seem to br wildy lenient. In the United States he would have more than likely gotten life in a mental institution. Which would have been the best choice.
Schizoeffective/bi-polar here as well. I’ve heard voices many times and been in mental facilities, thankfully I never attacked anyone (I know schizophrenia is different and very often more severe). Meds and therapy and supervision should definitely have been a lifelong thing for him. My heart goes out to the victims and the killer/cannibal.❤
lol, as a resident of Ontario Canada, I found your pronunciation of our beautiful province pretty funny ;) Have binged your videos of late and appreciate all the hard work and research put into your productions. Especially the hint of humour and sporadic comments on the absurd or disturbing actions of perpetrators hilarious. I bet you get invited to a lot of parties, your stories would be a hit around the campfire! Just wanted to extend a warm acknowledgment from Canada 🇨🇦 and this video seemed a good opportunity:) Cheers eh!
Was that the voice of Adrian from Coffeehouse Crime? It sounds just like him! 👍👍👍 I have heard about this case before, however, not with all the details you gave. I feel so bad for the mother for losing her son. I cannot imagine how she feels. I have three sons and the thought of losing one to a violent crime is devastating. I am not sure how I feel about the man who committed this horrible crime. On one hand he should be locked up for life and on the other it is good that he has control of his mental illness. I am thinking that after he got out of the mental hospital, he should be put in prison for life. After all, he did murder a man.
as somebody who lived/still lives in Winnipeg, MB. i remember this like it was yesterday.. my mom's friend worked at the institute in Selkirk where he was staying. & all i will say- sick or not.. he still deserves to be locked up. he's out, completely unsupervised, & it's a little scary to think about.. i understand having a mental illness, but still.. what if he decides one day to not take his medication? what happens then.....
If the doctor says a man who viciously stabbed to death, beheaded and devoured the eyeballs and heart of an innocent man is fit to go back into society then one of two things needs to happen: He immediately gets banned from the profession and his opinion be null and void, or, it's time to leave the country because it's gone completely fucking insane!
This case makes me sick. I absolutely don't think he should be out and free. He could decide to stop taking his meds any time. There's no guarantee. 😒 Great job on the video. I'm enjoying your channel. Very cool putting Adrian's voice in your video! 🙂
I am a fellow winnipegger, and have been my whole life.( 25 years). I still remember this story like it was yesterday as do the majority of winnipeggers, I don't think this story will ever be forgotten. Truly despicable

I'm pretty sure that if he hadn't immigrated to Canada and lived in China, he'd have been a perfectly normal person.
Fucked.
That poor witness. You could see in his eyes he was also in shock. Sad, sad, sad. May he and his family find peace.

THANK YOU
He was mentally ILL
Yes, but he had been treated for several years and we haven't had any incidents from him since, as far as we know.
@@user-fe8gx3ie5v that doesnt mean we wont tho its not worth taking the risk ,someone else might die
@@duru5213 The first time he hurt someone, sure, but it seems they really paid attention to him the second time. Six or so years of near-constant vigilance and monitoring his meds seems to have done its job. If he does it one more time, then I wouldn't mind having him institutionalized or watched over for life.
Wow. I wouldn't think there are too many people who cut off somebody's head and eat their eyes and heart that get treated this leniently.
He was mentally ill
Exactly
He is still schizophrenic, don’t think for a second life is lenient in any way.
Still shocked this guy is free after what he did. WTF.
Still cannot believe the Canadians let this dude out wtf??? That’s a neutered society right there.
@e.a.weaver2537 could happen here in Germany also .... = happened several times with such sick people .... surely this case is unique, BUT ....
I've also read somewhere that a woman who witnessed this eventually lost custody of her children, since she couldn't take care of them because of the PTSD this guy induced in her. I don't know how true this is.
I get she would be affected mentally but how would seeing this make her unable to care for her kids? Thats just ridiculous lol
@@user-vq2ho5jn7k sometimes episodes of trauma can be intense enough to where in some episodes people recreate the events of said trauma.
Not to mention one of the responding officers to this scene ended up self deleting too later on.
I really dont know, how people let cannibalism slide like that.
I'd like to see him going to live with that Dr. And his family since he's so safe! Holy cow this was 😪🤯😱
Lol 😂😂😂…..Exactly!!
See an American would've said rot in prison i am also American just one of the view who agree with you
Fellow Canadian and totally agree.
There's no justice in our Canadian legal system, which this case proves.
This story never fails to make me very sad. So young and such a terrifying way to die. 😔💚
A very horrific day in Manitoba history that mentally destroyed several that where on scene. Rest in peace Tim.
Totally insane to let this person go free.
Others have already mentioned it, but it was a nice surprise to hear Adrian’s voice in this video.

Man, this is fantastic day! 👏👏👏👏
I think a mandatory daily check-in to make sure he’s taking his meds would’ve satisfied both sides. He’s taken the life of a person and to earn his freedom he must show all the proper dedication to avoiding a repeat of the circumstances which led him to bring about this tragedy
Damn, over a thousand views in less than an hour. It's so good to see you doing well!

The brown haired dude in black short looked absolutely petrified sharing his account of what happened. You can loterally see the fear in his eyes...
05:56 and 13:13 This is the voice of Adrian from "Coffeehouse Crimes!!!"
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I’m from Canada, and I remember vividly when this happened. Such total shock and disgust that something like this could happen… and so suddenly, as well. I can’t imagine the horrors that the family of the victim and witnesses have to live with for the rest of their lives. So, so sad.
I feel like a crime is a crime. The justice system owes the victim…justice. Don’t feel like he go justice.
Unbelievable he's out and in amongst society!
Nah, son. No matter what the reason or excuse, once you do something like this, you should never be free again.
such a horrific thing that happened, can't believe that this man was ever let out it's like a slap this poor mother's face. I'm shocked at our system 😢
I started watching your channel and coffeehouse crime at the same time, nice to see/hear you two in the same video
Not gonna lie, I lost it a little when I heard Adrian’s voice, caught me off guard lol, I said no way! Two of my fav channels! I AM HERE FOR IT!! 👏🏼
I can’t stand That Chapter and his goofy facial expressions.
If you don’t eat their eyes you can’t be sure
@@chrischriskidnicky6088 I feel like that's as good an explanation as any tbh 🤣

To me it sounds like some professional should continue to have regular check ins with him for him to be released like that. I like to believe that people can be rehabilitated too, but with the severity of what he did I don't think they should risk him falling through the cracks.
Also it was really cool to hear coffeehouse crime in your video!!
What a crazy story. Love your content. Last night was a blast. Keep up good work and I'll keep watching and telling people about your channel ☺️
Good comment 👍
When's the last time YOU ate someone and be HONEST?
A lot of people on medication like that usually end up stopping the treatment because they don't like the side effects. It's truly horrible how he is walking free, especially with what he did.
I heard Adrian’s(Coffeehouse Crime) voice doing during the second voiceover👌👌 am I right? Well documented, bro. Thanks for the hard work.
I’m so glad that he got help, I’m so disappointed it costed lives to do so. It does get dangerous when people can’t afford or won’t take medication
This is one of the craziest cases I've ever heard of, I'm so glad you covered it!

Thanks man. Great show. Love your laid back manner.
Oh snap is that Adrian from Coffee House Crime???
Great video as always.
Coffeehouse Crime!! When Will We See a That Chapter Collab??
i think i heard this case before in another channel but i can't remember which channel it was, the other one explained the case like it was some kind of fever dream and quite hard to understand, thanks for explaining it in a more detailed way
5:55 Was that a CoffeeHouse Crime cameo?!?! You two are my favourite true crime youtubers amazing!
I hope not. Imagine hearing about this guy doing something else anywhere near as bad as this.
he should definitely be subjected to monitoring for the rest of his life, because he killed someone, VERY violently. even if he’s recovered and he’s medicated now, he needs to have someone holding him accountable on that because it’s always better to be safe than sorry
I agree . This guy is too dangerous. He could kill again .
Crazy case! Thanks for the content
This is such a tough case. There's reasonable arguments on every side of things.
Canadians and their fake accent 🤣 trying too hard to be different
Was that the voice of Adrian from Coffeehouse Crime? It sounds just like him! 👍👍👍
I have heard about this case before, however, not with all the details you gave. After all, he did murder a man.
haha i think it is judging the comments, i heard him too on the second one, dope :D
Just did a double-take when I suddenly heard Coffeehouse Crime voicing. Very cool!!
These medical professionals forget people lie 🤡
as somebody who lived/still lives in Winnipeg, MB. i remember this like it was yesterday.. my mom's friend worked at the institute in Selkirk where he was staying.
Love that you are using Adrian's voice from Coffeehouse Crime.
Such a horrific incident. But another excellent video, Dire! 💜
Was that an "Adrian from Coffeehouse Crime" cameo I heard at 5:55?? 😂👍
Yes, yes it is. Awesome. 😊😊
This case makes me sick. I absolutely don't think he should be out and free. He could decide to stop taking his meds any time. There's no guarantee. 😒 Great job on the video. I'm enjoying your channel. Very cool putting Adrian's voice in your video! 🙂
Nice cameo of Adrian from _'Coffeehouse Crime'_ 👍
First time I see a video about a case from where I live, ive heard about the case but never listened to the full story. Gotta love winnipeg.
Bruh the cross over is so bad ass. Hope to see more from both of you
Is that the coffe guy doing Gods voice?
Yes! Lol
Totally caught me offguard, haha
Not how I imagined God's voice. 'hey guys God here, sit down, relax make yourself at heaven and let's talk about a nice murder'
Lol, I wasn’t watching for a moment when voice popped up, recognized right away😂😂
I am a fellow winnipegger, and have been my whole life.( 25 years). I still remember this story like it was yesterday as do the majority of winnipeggers, I don't think this story will ever be forgotten. Truly despicable
Also I feel like I speak for most of us winnipeggers when I say, we wish she was never released back to the public
Going from having a degree in computing and working in the tech sector to delivering newspapers, something definitely was not right
