    Hard to believe O'Neill had problems trusting the Tok'ra after an introduction like this.

      He knew they were valauble allies but he personally hated them because they were basically Goauld with a different name. Heck even for good guys they were a bit callous plus that whole thing with one healing Jack and then basically handing him to Baal for days of torture and interrogation after a botched rescue attempt didn't help either.

    Honestly those MPs (I'm assuming they are) should be commended for that moment.
    Stands to when there's a threat, waits for the order, communicates their support, and when told to hold fire obliges while in a very high stress situation.
    And after the threat was ended immediately deescalates and renders aid to Captain Carter. 10/10

      @@BrennaUrbangirl Sort of. They had military advisors but the US military (this is an open deal for movies/TV) was allowed to revise the script and change things in exchange for funding via a liaison officer. So, yes, they provided stuff like this, but also were allowed to do things to put the Air Force in the spotlight. A couple of episodes are basically USAF recruitment videos, when you get down to it.

      Hindsight is 20/20, I believe Jolinar's plan was to go through the gate and find a new host. They would most likely not have believed them if she told them she was a Tok'ra. I think Sam may have been partly responsible for the fainting.

    • @BYERE
      @BYERE 4 роки тому +45

      In fairness, whether the Tok'ra knew of the Tau'ri by that point, they'd have known that the Tau'ri would see them as just another Goa'uld. Jolinar had no idea whether she could trust anyone, but did know that if her presence was known, the assassin character from later in the episode would have hunted her/Carter down anyway.
      Like Chris said, Jolinar would have likely waited until they were in another inhabited place and then just switched hosts after knocking out (or at least, getting away from) the rest of the team.

    Putting the pin back into the grenade reminds me of a day on a checkpoint in South Lebanon when the SLA troops paid a social call on our post. One went to climb up on the Panhard M3 and was taken down, when he protested and went to go back up, he was given a slap. Off they all went, about 10 in number, returning cocking their AK's. Into the door of the Panhard reaches our illustrious Car Comdr and takes out two grenades and while pulling out the pins of both, wades in among the SLA crew shouting, 'Shoot me now, ye's bastards' Needless to say, they took to their heels shouting 'Paddy mad, Paddy mad'. Grenades don't work that way. Pull the pin, remove the safety, squeeze, its armed. Releasing the hammer enough to put the pin back in ignites the fuse. Its designed that way so the enemy can't just jam a screw driver into it and disarm it. Once you squeeze the hammer, its all internal and theres nothing you can do.

      @@Scottlp2 something else they dont tell you is "pumping" the grenade (counting before thowing so so the enemy doesnt have time to throw it back or take cover) is very dangerous , as you arent guarenteed those 3-5 seconds of fuse. In training i saw a short fuse and the cap went off mid air. Thats why they train you to duck the moment it leaves your hand.
      I have "used" real grenades so its more experience and practicle knowledge. If a regular civilian, even one that has read a real manual for how they actually work were to encounter some and treat them as really cool fireworks with no practicle training but only acedemic, it will be a very bad day for whoever has to clean it up. The worste part is that you can survive a grenade going off in your hand, but you dont want to.

    • @JFrazer4303
      @JFrazer4303 2 роки тому +3

      Not at all how they work.
      The "Handle" is called the spoon, and it keeps a spring-loaded "hammer" from striking a primer in the top, under the spoon. The hammer spring pushes the spoon away and lets the hammer swing around and hit the primer.
      Even if you put the spoon and pin back in after the primer is struck is pointless., there's no way to jam something in to disarm it.
      The internal 3-5 second fuse is lit when the hammer strikes the primer.
      There is no squeezing anything, except holding the spoon to keep the hammer from pushing it away and going on to hit the primer.

    I don't know much about grenades but don't they explode on their own after a while?

    • @SGtidbits
      @SGtidbits  6 років тому +32

      I don't know much about grenades either, but I think they generally don't go on their timer until the clamp is released. The pin is just holding the clamp in place. After pulling the pin, she is still holding the clamp. She could put the pin back in and there should be no worries. I don't know if this is how it works in reality, but that is how it appears to work from what I've seen on TV.

    • @Proximax9
      @Proximax9 6 років тому +48

      I've thrown two live hand grenades when doing my service, and yes, the grenade will not go off until the clamp is released (which releases the hammer). Once the hammer has struck the detonation sequence will begin, and there is no stopping it. As long as the clamp is in place it is possible to put the pin back in.

    • @LittleScientist2011

      The pin is there to hold a lever in place once the pin is removed it won't go off until the lever is also ejected. This is done by a spring so that it automatically detaches once thrown. As she was still holding the lever down it couldn't eject sort of acting as a deadman's switch because if she dies then she drops it and the lever will fly off and detonate the grenade. Once she had been incapacitated O'Neill was able to hold onto the grenade and replace the pin hence making it safe again.

    • @Mrcaremal5

      The grenade will only begin detonation after the safety lever is released, until then it's safe even with the pin removed.

      They made the decision for Jolinar to threaten the kid and then get unreasonable in this scene.
      If Jolinar had Sam's memories and then seeing how the Tau'Ri are, she should have surrendered and told them everything right away.
      They might have beaten the Ashrak and gotten her back to the Tok'Ra and then gotten Sam back, no sweat.
      Instead they teased with it being a system lord parasite and made all thie drama like this scene, as Jolinar screws up to badly it kills her.
