I am going to cancel my OLA S1 Pro booking, will buy Active. The range is far away from the promise made by OLA. I feel cheated by OLA, I was waiting for this for the last six months.
    I appreciate your efforts.

Here is my thinking why it shuts down abruptly based on your 2 rides: Ather has a reserve charge capacity (5%)when it reaches 0% to reduce battery damage, OLA does not have that, the moment it reaches anywhere btwn 5-10% it shuts down to prevent battery damange. BMS is different . So consider only 90% as total capacity when you are on ola.

I can easily get 65-70 KM of range in Ather 450X Sports mode when we ride in 65-75 Kmph on the rural roads with lots of inclines and declines. Ather itself claims the range of only 60 KM in sports mode. Ather's range calculations are accurate. every time we get an extra 5-10 KM than what is shown in the dashboard.

Hey Pradeep on wheels! The reason the last 10% or 15% of the range can disappear suddenly is the method that most low price EVs use to read the remaining battery charge is a simple battery voltage measurement! The voltage does not drop evenly as you use the battery and usually drops swiftly at the end! Voltage measurement is very inaccurate compared to current or watts monitoring which is where software keeps track of the amount of watts the motor is using as time goes by and calculates how much charge is remaining in the battery! The unfortunate situation is a Canadian dude patented the current or watts monitoring method and charges all EV manufacturers a royalty if they use the patented system! Most ebike and escooter makers don't pay for this and it looks like Ola didn't either! You are a tough dude to do all that pushing for us thank you! Ride ride ride!

    • @sahilkatchi6180
      @sahilkatchi6180 2 роки тому +11

There are a couple of EVs who still give accurate SOC at even lower levels. Ola should have taken care of it already before beginning deliveries which hopefully they fix soon

    • @ericm8811
      @ericm8811 2 роки тому +18

Hey sahil katchi! Other EV manufacturers may be paying the royalty or using other tactics for more accuracy! Using a battery right down to the very end is accelerated wear and tear so some companies may set the "Low voltage cut off" point to a higher voltage! This avoids the sudden voltage drop and theoretically lowers the amount of battery warranty claims the company will eventually have to deal with but it also reduces the available range! Hope you have a happy xmas season! Ride ride ride!

Are you sure about that patent thing? Its a very easy method to keep track of the battery capacity by measuring current and its so simple that anyone with a little bit of knowledge in practical electronics can do it. All smartphones, even the cheap ones also use this coulomb counting method. How can someone charge loyalty for this!

u have 0 knowledge how ev show their range... if u want 180km u need to test it at 25kmph under controlled conditions... this is how all the ev bikes of china display range. a range of 130km per charge is pretty decent but price should be around 1lakh . but due to market size and lack of component manufacturing in India its is difficult for now to get it at that price. maybe 3-4 yrs from now we will get evs with real life 100km range at around 70-80 k

In my initial estimates, i expected a realistic range of 130KM in general... At 98KM it's simply bad, too bad... Add the unreliable software, BMS and finishing, the preposition becomes way too bad. I was thinking about booking S1 but considering similar drop, the range may be less than 70KM. Absolutely unacceptable from claim. It's better to book Ather or Iqube than this...

  • @shreyaskumarpradhan1005

    Actually the problem is motor
It's very powerful and consuming a lot of power from battery eating a lot of charge from battery. That's the point.
Ather has 3 kilowatt battery with lower motor power
And OLA S1 pro has 4 kilowatt battery with higher motor power
And it's normal, S1 pro motor will consume more power than 450X.
It's like equally they are consuming energy.
Ather 450X consuming low power from battery due to low power motor
And OLA S1 pro consuming more power from battery due to high power motor.
The time taken 100% to 0% here is equal.
That's why the range is also we are getting equal.
If we give the same motor of ather 450X to OLA S1 pro or S1 pro battery to ather 450X then only it will give increased range

  • @abizzz543

Awesome buddy, You checkbox all the doubts.. you did it..
    1) Speedo meter is showing wrong speed..
    2) Big fraud from Ola On range. 181 -> 151 -> 135 -> Finally its just 98 ( though Almost meeting all the ola conditions)
    3) So obviously range 98 km distance on ola display may not be same as real distance per google maps… may be just like speedo they might have tampered Range as well..
Can you put those Starting Point -> Till U -> Battery dead points in google maps and see that distance please..

Hey, your running commentary was like, a thrill movie. We could sense the fear of moving the vehicle once again. 🙂
Another thing I've observed is, OLA have created a hype, which created unusual performance expectation from an electric vehicle. The real-time data on the display, don't meet the practical performance measurement.
I use a Pure EV epluto 7g. Solid milage and performances with load. Again, it takes time for us to get tuned to the vehicle.

I had gone for S1 Pro just for range I neither drive fast nor wanted fancy feature but it seems even 4KW battery is not sufficient to give a decent guaranteed range of 100+. Assuming that its optimization issue only but for now this deal in not for me anymore esp with non removable battery.

    Hey Pradeep,
Gr8 job bringing out these different videos on EVs. Gud thing that you'd already chkd out earlier how far you might be able to ride!! Secondly, as another person had commented in an earlier video, all EV companies need to sort out their respective glitches/bugs b4 launching their EVs, otherwise, you're paying these companies to become their BETA testers!! Case in point, Google maps showed u what speed you were actually going at, and the display showed 6kms more!!
I shall wait for sometime b4 even thinking of an EV bike/scooter. Let the companies iron out all these issues to begin with. Stay safe & take care!!

Ola should write its range as 98KM in normal mode for S1 pro & throw that ideal ARAI range in Bin,
consumers need practical real world stats, Not lab and theoretical stats to buy EV's.

Ola - is like realme and Xiaomi which releases products with lot of bugs and rectifies it through software updates.
Ather - although has bugs during its release but is like apple. No major bugs that can hamper the range.if any bugs there could be some display related ones or maps. They delivered a finished product back in 2018. Incremental updates fixed even the minor bugs for 450 model. But they took wrong route by opting to Android. 450x although is good it's still plagued with lot of dashboard related bugs. But bugs in ather never affected range.

Ather battery calculation is accurate, since it does it with watt hour per km, which gives more accurate results. If ather was ridden in the speeds you rode, it would give 90-95km range even though they claim 85km is the 100% range. Ola just have to change the calculation shown in dashboard

Thank you for the honest range test.
Ola should have been more transparent about the range. I was actually impressed it went as far as it did with a 4 kWh battery pack though.
I hope all EV manufacturers test and release WMTC/WLTP range numbers, and use standardized charging.
We need more sustainable ways to travel anyway, so I wish all EV manufacturers the best of luck and hope drivers will accept some disadvantages for a more sustainable future.

I know Hans. With great top speed and pick up, 100 kms per charge is very very good. Yes, Ola should have been more vivid about that range claim, but I think it's a grey area too. With all those technical features, 7 inch touchscreen, I think I am still sold on Ola.

Electric scooty me aise hi proble hoga bcoz battery itni kam power ki heavy motor ko full rpm me chalayegi to baattery ka plate bekar hoga har 3 mahine me!
There is an alternative....hydrogen fuel vehicles it only take 3-4 minute to fillup the whole tank around 40-50kg in 4 wheeler so it take 2 minutes to fill 2 wheelers 20lit approx tank and range is like petrol may be more range....but the major problem is manufacturing of tank to bear hydrogen fuel which has 750bar atm pressure!......i think rather making 1 big tank we need multiple tanks of 1lit or less which can be more protective for life bcoz hydrogen is such an explosive!...and they connected through manufactured thick steel pipe like tank!

Hey, Thanks for the test man. Really appreciate it.
Since 80% of the test was a Highway, we can expect some windblast which might have created some resistance/Friction.
My expectations - Person who weighs 60-70kgs can commute close to 105-115 Kms in City with decent road conditions.
Pradeep, if you happen to read the comment, try to test in City : ECITY > Hoskote Tollgate > Cubbon Park > E City.
This route should cover close to 100 kms .
If OLA passes in this test, then we could take 100 kms as ball park figure.
