I don't weld (yet) but I really like your design. Question... at 3:45 wouldn't it have been easier to move your angle iron pieces 4" lower? It would have raised all 4 bolts at the same time. Less cutting and welding? Am I missing something? Finished product is exactly what I am looking for !

Yes and no...I had fully welded the angle in. Cutting would have been almost impossible at that point. If I had more metal laying around, I would have started over. Since I didn't, cutting the bolts was my best option.

@@DunnageGarage That makes total sense. I am going to look at using Uni-Strut for making mine. At least until I learn how to weld.

@@marceld6061 I looked at Uni-Strut and decided it was to heavy for my application. I would look very close at the cost. I had about $10.00 in mine, I had to buy 2 ratchet straps came in pairs ($10. ea) so out of pocket was about $20... The metal was scrap. When I looked at uni-strut it was about $30 plus the $10 ratchet strap (would have to by a pair at 20) so that's 50 plus a bag of hardware for about 10...so all in $60 plus time and paint, cut off wheels sanding disks..... I have seen the same thing advertised for $90 and that includes a bracket for the other side of the tire too...

I'm looking for something exactly like this. Unfortunately I don't weld. Great work!

Do you experience any wobbling with this setup? I like the concept, may try to weld something up for my use too.

I had to add some traction tape to the mount to keep it from sliding down. The only wobbling I had was from the tire. Overall I was happy with the setup.

Great video and even greater ingenuity!
How long and wide overall did your mount end up being?

Looks like 7.25 wide and 26 tall, and the paddles that set on the tire 7.5x10

Badass Tents charges 200 bucks for something very similar thats made out of Aluminum. 200 is super overpriced for a piece of aluminum and a ratchet strap. You should market your product. I'd pay a pretty good price for that kind of quality.

Why not just mount it like it was on the left side? No fix necessary.

Great question, but mounting it on the other side made it difficult to access the rear door handle. Thanks for commenting.
