Sorry for the late reply, appreciate everything you said. Like you I like being able to swap out my batteries. Never been a fan of lights that need to be plugged in inorder to be recharged.
Kind of agree with you, only thing is it definitely depends on what your application is. If you really need to get out there with some light over some distance, this thing is absolutely second to none pound for pound.
Lumens vs candela and the specific need matter. The EDC2 with 700 lumens has 100,000 candela. The G2X has 600 lumens but on 8700 candela, which is fine indoors or a small backyard but not for someone needed to reach out great distances, which some of us want and need. EDC2 has hi/low, high candela and takes 18650 batteries in a durable package, which suits my needs. (I do hate the pocket clip design, so it's not perfect). The G2X is a good light, different applications require different tools. I like the G2X over the lights with electronic switches and lots of unnecessary modes.
Thanks for all the information about the Turbo buddy. I need to know all that information before buying that specific flashlight. You really gives out the correct information, thanks once again.
I received the light today! Mine is the tan EDC1-DFT. It's great! The finish is matte and slightly rougher than other black anodised Surefires. One thing I didn't realise is how much longer it is compared to my EDCL1-T, which is expected, but Surefire's numbers aren't accurate and need updating, I feel. The throw is great. No TIR on this one, which makes its beam profile a little wonky but haven't seen a perfect beam shape since incan. I find the runtime is a little short, but since I'll be carrying it with me, the size of the light is good. I do also find the larger lights to be too unweildy and risk being left unused. Let see how the finish holds up in a few years.
I could be wrong but to answer your question at ~10 min, “good” battery chargers will provide the same amount of regulated power to each battery compartment respectively. The only change is in the rate at which it charges in that the charger that I use (I use a 4 bay Efest charger) is able to charge 2 batteries at 2 amps (each) however if 4 batteries charging simultaneously, the charging rate drops to 1 amp (each). I hope that helps bro- loved your vid ❤️🔦
The Nightcore MH12 Pro is my favorite edc light Surefire is great for patrol or duty work being super heavily built but the MH12 is my choice for EDC due to size the fact it can tail stand and has crazy battery life even at 1200lm with a max of 3300 in turbo. The Nitecore MH12 Pro, the Olight Warrior 3 and Fenix PD36R are my favorite EDC lights. Shurefire starts at a much higher price point but that candela is absolutely insane great video.
Honestly for the same price as that surefire you can get the Modlite hog with the OKW head and get 170,000 candela yeah it’s bigger but you can get a different head for the light body that has more of a flood but you still get 120,000 Candela Modlite for the win 🙌🏽
I've been using the Surefire EDCL2-T since 2018. Literally every day, it's been the best light I've ever owned. I think it might be time for an upgrade! Great video, thanks for the content!
Thank you I appreciate it! I'm kinda jealous of people getting into flashlights for the first time bc one's likes these will last forever and surefire really does stand behind their products. They replaced a 15 year old scratch, dented x300 that had chips on the glass with a brand new 1000 lumen version. So buying one of these could very well be the last handheld light one ever buys. And they didn't replace it bc I had a yt channel, it was before I started this and they still don't know who I am so it wasn't a special case or treatment.
I got the modlite hog light as my EDC and it comes with a two battery charging tray and two batteries on it. They charge up at the same time in the trade. It comes with the hog light. It charges different batteries across the board because the hog has the 2700 batteries but according to mod light, it charges all the 18s as well
Great video. But I don't understand how a 800 lumens device can be brighter than the one with 1200 lumens? Or is it a matter of Candelas? The brighter one has more candelas...
I have the surefire charger that came with the original 600 Scout DF. It seems to charge both of the batteries at the same time. I’m going to completely drain two batteries and recharge them at the same to be sure.
Have 1 surefire weapons torch. They are very robust but it's disappointing how far behind they are in output. My EDC's are Jetbeams and Olights. Brighter, cheaper, and very reliable. 21700 or 18650 power supplies make them capable of 2000-4000 lumen output levels for 1/2 the price of the surefire. 21700 superior power supply over the 18650. Charge vis USB and use as power banks as well. The reflector on the sure EDC2-DFT is outstanding though. If I were in a war zone and had the money I'd consider that torch. But for how fast tech moves it's a lot of money for that torch if you're not in the most austere conditions where reliability is paramount.
to add to my comment if you're looking for a good bay charger I highly recommend the nitecore intelligent chargers. The one that has two buttons on it so that you can choose what you charge the batteries at. You can charge them as low as 100ma or as high as 1000ma 100 would be your trickle charge that gives you the best performance and battery longevity. But if you just need a battery quickly then you can use the 1000 and it will charge a typical 18650 in like 30 minutes i think? I don't know. But they have a 2 bay and a 4 bay charger not sure about an 8. I have an 8 bay charger but it doesn't have the option to choose what the charge rate is.
sorry if i missed this detail in the video but does this light have the same removable head as their weapon lights? will the head swap between other surefire dual fuel and DF turbo heads? reason i ask is i have a Modlite 850nm IR head i use with NOD's and I do like the body style of thios light, it would be nice to be able to use the IR head with this body and/or swap the Turbo head onto a rifle if I wanted too. thanks for your T&E making the videro.
Thanks! I'm giving away the Nitcore EDC33. So far no one has followed the instructions to be considered a contestant. If you want a good shot at getting it, go check out that video. Not as good as this one.
I really miss when Surefire was just making good, useable lights. I would love to see them make an easily pocketable light(~1 in diameter head) with 35000+ candela and a low mode at 5-15 lumens with a gas pedal switch or twist head interface. Oh well, dare to dream! Great review, Thanks!
Thank you! The edc1 dft is pretty close. They just need to offer the gas pedal switch. I've read a lot of comments regarding that so hopefully they'll come across my vid and see what we all want and make it happen 🤞
@@chenriquem yeah fair question. Nitecore actually sent me that exact light that you mentioned. On paper it is more powerful but it literally gets burning hot within 15 seconds and then the internal temperature regulator reduces the light output and forces you to use the lower lumen setting. Surefire like this one doesn't have any of those issues. I showed the nitecore and how it reduces the output in the video review I did on that light. I recommend checking it out.
it depends on the charger. to be honest. and you are better off putting it in an actual battery charger because you will get a better charge and your batteries will not only last longer in the light but the life of your battery will be prolonged because your "tray" chargers charge full battery meaning all the cells will be charged. The slower the charge the better it is for your battery. if you notice your phone battery starts to not last as long as your phone get's older it's likely because you have it hooked up to a fast charger most of the time. if you want to maybe try and revive your battery in a phone or 18650 put it on a trickle charger and it will bring some life back to the cells. But chances are the damage is already done.
@@CivilianWarrior looking forward to your impressions. If it's the T1 pro then it's pretty nice but maybe in a weird place where it's a touch too much hot spot for a lot of daily things but not enough candela (or runtime) to be great at heavier duty "tactical" tasks or longer distances. I like the Weltool T2 tac for bigger work and a microstream or something similar for typical close up, daily things. The surefire smokes the T2 tac on candela but it's also 3x the price.. it might be worth it but I would only put that kind of money on a pocket flashlight if I were using it professionally.
Beam shits with the low, would have been very helpful. For edc, and administrative tasks, we need to see if the low is practical. Because the full power is to much for admin tasks. And if low allows for admin tasks and you still have the high for outdoors/tactical tasks....thats a big factor for people like myself, looking to potentially buy.
Well done bro!!! Ya earned a subscriber with these vids. Hopefully we could get the guys over at Surefire to put a gas pedal switch on these things. You should show how they’d sit in the front pocket of some blue jeans since that’s probably how we’d be living with them most of the time. I’m personally curious to know if the wider bezels would protrude too much and make us look a little dorkier than usual 😅
Thank you I appreciate that! I'll include your suggestion of the blue jeans and pockets in the next video comparing the EDC 1 to the larger version. Probably upload that in 1.5 to 2 weeks. Have to upload a Mira safety mask video this week but I appreciate your suggestions!
In 5.11 jeans, pretty good. Didn't really notice a big weight difference but also depends on how big the jean pocket is. What I don't like is the activation button. They got rid of the gas pedal.
I don’t like rechargeable lights and have a edcl 2 and love that I can have fresh recharged batteries ready to go especially since I live off grid in the mountains always have a min of 6 at all times and like the 5watt setting for doing stuff up close lol
Ignoring the judgmental tone in your comment, it was stored in my get home bag as a backup. Serves as a backup too in case I forget my primary, lose it or it gets damaged.
Oh. nevermind. 8:42 I want to add that I wouldn't say I like select options for low and high output. Could you find a flashlight with a single-output option for your following review? 😅😅
Yes, all lights begin the loose their brightness after a few minutes of constant use. Some brands more than others. Typically the advertised run time on flashlights refers to time the light runs from full power up until it is only putting out 10 percent of the total output. So for this light using a fully charged 18650 battery, you'll get the 100k candela. If you leave it on, you'll only be getting about 10k candelas of output at the 2.75 hours but also depends on if it's really hot outside or really cold. Hope that makes sense.
I haven't seen the hog in person but I keep hearing the light head is really big and not ideal for pocket carry. Modlite hog is brighter but it's a larger battery too. I say that bc I was thinking it might be a good light in a get home bag🤷🏻♂️
On Amazon the L1 dft is $233. 😳😲 no way I am paying that for a flashlight. It is a damn good light I am sure but there are too many good brands that don't cost that much. Then again i cant afford to buy one and throw it ina bag for 5 years without using it. Sounds like you have more money than you know what to do with. Good video though.
Lumintop gta can compete with this light😂 but it feels cheap on the hand because of the cheap aluminum and bad button but the beam is friggin good and its waaaaaaaaaay cheaper
That's the price for American made. If iPhones and Pixel phones were made in America they'd easily cost over $5k. No American is willing to do their current job for $2 an hour or even $5.
looks like edc l2 is just a flood light, and the other one is overkill for most regular uses- you gonna blind the living shit out of yourself in small enviroment How much is the new one going to be and is it just one mode?(nevermind its 2 modes at 350)
Nice light but WAY OVERPRICED! There are many equal or better lights for less money. Surefire has lagged behind in the led flashlight market and is now no longer competitive.

I’ll tell you something I ended up getting today my other Manker came in the morning my MK 35 -11. oh my God what a piece of equipment. this light is punching out 2000 m 6000 lm 1 million Candela. If you get a chance please google that. i’m looking forward to your next broadcast. I’m not kidding man. You do a real good job with your facial expressions. And the way you get your words across in an excellent manner. You also know your product very well when you’re talking about it, which makes it really easy to follow you throughout the process. Good luck with your career out there my man keep up the good work I’ll be watching.
Sorry for the late reply, appreciate everything you said. Like you I like being able to swap out my batteries. Never been a fan of lights that need to be plugged in inorder to be recharged.
At close to $300, it's impractical. I carry G2X, the pro version gives a high [ 600 lumens ] and low [ 15 lumens ] option, and it's $ 80.
Kind of agree with you, only thing is it definitely depends on what your application is. If you really need to get out there with some light over some distance, this thing is absolutely second to none pound for pound.
@flyoverkid55 You should try the Olight Javelot Mini. For price/performance, you cant beat it!
@@chaystonwestmoreland9042 I'll look into it.
Try out the E2T Mv tactician half the price it's a awesome light for work/duty/edc I've been using it for this for a few years and highly recommend it
Lumens vs candela and the specific need matter.
It's CeraKote. It won't wear too well.
That's 700 lumens? Wow! SureFire really is the gold standard for flashlights! I'll save up for one!
Yup that answers my question. Thank you for commenting, appreciate it and thank you, glad you loved it!
@@CivilianWarrior not a problem my dude!! 🍻
I’m with you on this. But won’t switch over until the put the same switch on the new one.
@@FlowBaka or at least have an option/upgrade for it. Unless it's in the programming of the chip then it is what it is I guess.
@@CivilianWarrior same here, I've had several old ones replaced. Takes them months but hey, they do it!
I sent you an email btw.
what are he requirements for them to replace it? Non-functioning?@@shadowdefensive
I got the modlite hog light as my EDC and it comes with a two battery charging tray and two batteries on it. They charge up at the same time in the trade. It comes with the hog light. It charges different batteries across the board because the hog has the 2700 batteries but according to mod light, it charges all the 18s as well
Good to know, thank you!
You EDC the Hog!?
@@WhadayanoJoeI do too 😂
I try to be a surefire fan again. The competition is just to good. They are the benchmade of lights. Still quality lights though.
Subbed. Well Done. Have you compared this to the Stilleto Pro 2?
I've been carrying the eagtac D25LC2 for a couple years
Great video. But I don't understand how a 800 lumens device can be brighter than the one with 1200 lumens? Or is it a matter of Candelas? The brighter one has more candelas...
Thank you. Yes and no, candelas and the shape of the reflector aka the inside of the light head also play a role in how far the light throw is.
Thats a nice torch!
I have the surefire charger that came with the original 600 Scout DF. It seems to charge both of the batteries at the same time. I’m going to completely drain two batteries and recharge them at the same to be sure.
Fantastic review! A ton of good details too. Great story about having it on for 30 minutes and not having an issue, stay safe out there!
Thank you, means a lot!
Valid point!
I wish you would’ve compared it to the smaller EDC1-DFT as well. I’m trying to decide between the 1 or 2 T.
I'm uploading that video in two weeks
to add to my comment if you're looking for a good bay charger I highly recommend the nitecore intelligent chargers.
Did they drop the “turbo” designation. I can’t find an EDC turbo anywhere on their website.
Try edc2-dft. Just searched myself and found it on their site.
sorry if i missed this detail in the video but does this light have the same removable head as their weapon lights? will the head swap between other surefire dual fuel and DF turbo heads? reason i ask is i have a Modlite 850nm IR head i use with NOD's and I do like the body style of thios light, it would be nice to be able to use the IR head with this body and/or swap the Turbo head onto a rifle if I wanted too. thanks for your T&E making the videro.
I just discovered a Tiny Lumintop GT Micro that runs a small 14500 battery.
750 lumens with 163000 candela! And only $90! Phew!
The GT Micro is at 40$
Got the same lite, thought they sent me a grey one. Box said TN
I have a flashlight "problem", but I can't say I see myself spending near $300 for one! Great review though!
Thanks for answering my question in the video.
Yeah absolutely, thanks for asking!
I just got one myself. Are you able to swap any Scout style light head on them?
Great vid. Can you swap the gas pedal tail cap from the EDCL2-T onto the EDC2-DFT? Curious if that will work.
Thank you. Unfortunately not, I tried it but must have forgotten to mention that
@@CivilianWarrior Gotcha. Appreciate the reply!
I LOVE surefire, but these prices are just too much
Honest question.
Why buy this flashlight that is more expensive and has less power/efficiency them like a Nitecore EDC35.
Just a sincere doubt.
Best edc for the money right now. Has to be nitecore edc 33. Only $69 4000 lm
Nitcore is sending one for review
it depends on the charger. to be honest. and you are better off putting it in an actual battery charger because you will get a better charge and your batteries will not only last longer in the light but the life of your battery will be prolonged because your "tray" chargers charge full battery meaning all the cells will be charged.
Awesome thanks for sharing, this and your other comment are very informative, appreciate it!
For an edc thrower, Weltool is where it's at.
I was recently sent a small Weltool for review, still testing it out.
I dont think the turbo models have a high low function. I could be wrong but that is my understanding
I was hoping to see how usable is the low lumen and how far is the throw.
Sorry I forgot to show that but pretty sure I show it in the comparison video of the edc2 vs edc1
The battery’s in a battery charger if all four are placed in the charge .They all charge at the same rate of speed.
Thank you!
Would you choose edc 1 or 2 if you could only have one for edc .
Great video Sir! Thank you!

Yes. I've used cloud defense and Modlite branded batteries, no problems
Also, your reviews are really good.
Thank you!!
I’m sure you answered this somewhere in previous comments, but how does it fit in a Jean pocket?
In 5.11 jeans, pretty good. Didn't really notice a big weight difference but also depends on how big the jean pocket is. What I don't like is the activation button. They got rid of the gas pedal.
Thank you for awesome review.
Thank you for watching!
If Surefire is watching.... update to USB C
I'll tell them that if I go to shot show
I don’t like rechargeable lights and have a edcl 2 and love that I can have fresh recharged batteries ready to go especially since I live off grid in the mountains always have a min of 6 at all times and like the 5watt setting for doing stuff up close lol
Why’d they have to get rid of the gas pedal. Damn
They really need to put the gas pedal switch one these and I know atleast I would get it.
Agreed! Hopefully they see these comments bc a lot of people commenting are saying the same thing.

Funny you're L-2 has been stowed...MINE is worn out...if you didn't use IT why would you use the EDC2-DFT?
Ignoring the judgmental tone in your comment, it was stored in my get home bag as a backup. Serves as a backup too in case I forget my primary, lose it or it gets damaged.
Is the button Single-Output?
Oh. nevermind. 8:42 I want to add that I wouldn't say I like select options for low and high output. Could you find a flashlight with a single-output option for your following review? 😅😅
Working on a hrt tac light with the omnidirectional switch but that's mounted to a firearm.
Can you temporarily blind someone in daylight for self defence I know it would do in the dark
does the brightness drop when the battery runs out?
Yes, all lights begin the loose their brightness after a few minutes of constant use. Some brands more than others. Typically the advertised run time on flashlights refers to time the light runs from full power up until it is only putting out 10 percent of the total output. So for this light using a fully charged 18650 battery, you'll get the 100k candela. If you leave it on, you'll only be getting about 10k candelas of output at the 2.75 hours but also depends on if it's really hot outside or really cold. Hope that makes sense.
@@CivilianWarrior Thanks
When the battery runs out the brightness is reduced to zero .. 😂
Is it programmable to run only on full power?
Nope.
No but it's what turns on first.
How long before it steps down?
These don't step down like other lights. They just slowly lose their output and take's a while to notice it.
This surefire or the mod lite hog plh ?
I haven't seen the hog in person but I keep hearing the light head is really big and not ideal for pocket carry. Modlite hog is brighter but it's a larger battery too. I say that bc I was thinking it might be a good light in a get home bag🤷🏻♂️
