Very informative, thank you for sharing! This video answered every question I had. My husband will be training OTR this weekend and as a wife I was worried about what to pack and not over packing. Lol I actually bought a refrigerator and a Continental oven and assumed he would be able to take it on his trainers truck 😂😂 Thank God I seen this because I might have gotten my husband kicked off lol

Thanks for the tips and all your videos Chad! I'd add "phone charger" to the list. This is the same list of stuff I packed for my week-long road trips doing my sales route to visit my mining customers across 5 states (except for sleeping bag since I stayed in hotels). I'm getting close to starting CDL so I appreciate yours and many other helpful videos. I hope your Mom is feeling better. Here's your list typed up in case anybody wants to just highlight-copy-paste.
WHAT TO BRING ON TRAINER’S TRUCK:
Waterproof Work Boots, Tennis shoes, Shower Shoes
Work Gloves, Safety Vest
Rechargeable Flashlight (plugs into cigarette lighter)
Training Materials, Pens
Socks, Underwear, T-shirts (long/short sleeve), Jeans, Shorts, Towel
Rolling suitcase
“GO-bag”/backpack for shower
Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash (non-alcohol)
Bath Gloves/Loofah
Deodorant, Sunscreen, Lotion
1-2 pillows, sleeping bag, fitted sheet, xtra blanket if Winter
Hat, Sunglasses
Phone charger, Headphones
Xtra contacts, Contact solution, Meds

You forgot to mention weapons of any kind I am a retired long-haul truck driver and my experience was that a trainer was hauling a training and teaching him and he brought a gun with him and shot her and left her for dead and a Truck Stop which went unnoticed for 3 days. It was very sad

gotta b honest, thinking about getting into trucking as i am in between jobs but being cooped up in a truck with someone for an extended period sounds like a nightmare, i know its only temporary but i could c it being a miserable experience, could c having a hard time getting sleep, what if your with a snorer for example??

I brought 2 jars of Moonshine with me. We had a good time down in South Texas during a 34 hour reset lol. That was back in 2006. Young and stupid. But it was a 34 hour break and had no need to go anywhere
I'm trying to consolidate due to the limited space on the truck, but I just can't see how I won't have a large bag, bc it's 4 weeks of clothes, plus my sleeping bag. Anyway I'm sooo excited and ready to go, I've been out of school 3 weeks 😬

No need towels...dry in your own clothes. Get a phone with bright led lights and that it got a case with a solar charger power bank backup attached to it. Usually those cases are more armored that you can use it as a hammer or a self defense weapon. Bring a fanny pack. Helps a lot. Nailcutters, if you wear glasses, get numerous pairs! Cant drive without glasses and youre fucked when you break them while on the road.

It’s a working vacation so pack light and bring a good attitude with some pocket change. I’m not paying for your coffee.
How much free time per day can I expect while with a trainer? To exercise, cook food at a truck stop, eat, and sleep.
you can expect your DOT mandated 10 hour break. anything more is a bonus, but don't expect it. Ideally you've got an hour after work and an hour in the morning with 8 hours of sleep. Remember, if you aren't rolling you probably aren't making any money.

Hey Chad thanks for the advice...I'm still learning and researching the industry, but have spoken to PAM and slated to attend school here in the Detroit area in December, 2018. To my understanding, I have an option to stay with them for 1 year after graduation, or go to another company. I have heard that if you stay with the company, you don't have a choice in the runs you make cause you're in training...
I am more interested in staying local, than going OTR. What other options do I have, as far as Class A, B, and other driving qualifications?
What did you decide to do?
If you bring more than a large duffel and a backpack you've brought too much. Not only will bringing too much stuff annoy your trainer, but you'll find that it's gonna annoy you too. You aren't going out with your trainer on vacation, you're there to work. Expect long hours and very little break time. You shouldn't need anything more for entertainment than your smart phone and maybe a small tablet with a set of ear buds. While I'm on that subject, be sure to pack some 12V chargers for those small electronics. Also, if you're a smoker and have a smoking trainer then you should bring your own cupholder ash tray.
Can I bring acoustic guitar ?
No lol. Leave that for when your driving solo.
Why no mouthwash with alcohol?
If you get pulled over and they have you do a breath test it will show up.
can truck drivers carry hand sanitizer?
I have a quick question I was told I need to get prescription glasses before it going into truck driving as I cannot see that well far but I could see up close would you recommend giving the progressive lens or just a straight vision for far...
if you can read the eye chart at the DMV your fine, reading glasses will not be accepted, do the safe thing and have your eyes checked, besides you need to do it for the public not just for yourself
How can I request you to be my trainer?
Little Trucker I'm on a dedicated Route now, so not training. Mom is sick, so need to stay closer to home

You could bring elastic workout bands. They pack up very small

Depending on your trainer, the ONLY space you'll have is that top bunk. You won't have space for a cooler. It's nice to have when you're in your own truck, but don't bring this with your trainer.
No mouthwash with alcohol. DOT will get you for that?

They cant have any type of alcohol. Even if its just mouthwash. They want you to be very safe while driving. Better to be safe than sorry.
