I'm starting school next Monday, and I'm honestly excited. I was sick of the jobs I had, being a factory worker, lifting heavy shit, doing the same thing over and over and over. And I'm ready to do something that not only pays more, but is more engaging.
Driving for 20 plus years. Ran the city 15 years. Pulled doubles, drove tankers, flat bed (fuck no), & OTR. It takes years to acquire the skills to successfully survive in today's world. But, u can. Slow your roll & make them move for you. You're a rolling roadblock, & they inevitably will have to move if their precious lives are to continue.
Thank you so much for this. I've always wanted to drive trucks, I know there's pros and cons to it, but there's pros and cons to just about everything. Still though, weigh this versus working 10 hours a day at an inbound call center, I'll take the highs and lows of trucking any day of the week. Plus I love driving. I may start off regional and grow from there
I currently work at an inbound call center lol. Thinking of trying to become a trucker. Im just afraid ill be a shit driver lol. But this call center shit sucks
I want to get into trucking and have been researching for over a year. For every positive there are 2 negatives, so every time I think I've decided how to go about it and where to go I get a report that totally changes my perspective. I don't know what's true and what's BS
GBall trucking is awesome, the first 3 months are the toughest because you are at the bottom of the pay scale and learning the job and the lifestyle. It takes some adjusting, but I love it
The sad reality to America's Workforce is really Trucking is the only thing that's available when you think about it you can always get a trucking job anywhere
Thanks for the positive feedback on the first year! I’ve been in a class B local position for about 3 years now and I really want to try the big rigs out for more money and I’ve always wanted to drive one. Going OTR just seems like the most common way to get your career started but I’m nervous because it will be a big shift in lifestyle for me. Some days I feel really motivated to go and get my class A but then others I feel like I psych myself out of it.
This video was helpful. My family has been trying for years to talk me into getting into the business because nearly all my relatives are in it. But deep down I feel like it’s not something I will enjoy doing. I’d be lying if I did say I haven’t thought about it though.
Highly considering it, both my uncle's are truckers and they love it. I just got out of the army back in November and now I'm looking for a career I can enjoy. I know it's not much but I've only drove manuals in my life and have been behind the wheel of heavy machinery with air brakes systems. I'm looking forward to it!
I start training with PAM Nov 4th.. I signed up to get my CDL and experience.. Getting rich immediately was never an expectation I had.. The only times in my life where I made a 500 dollar check was when I put in ridiculous overtime in a factory or something.. I made 350 a week for 5 years working in a junkyard Im 36 years old. I guess in some aspects I am fortunate to have a home that is paid for and I get a nice income monthly.. Both were inheritance from my dad... Im doing this for the future.. I will drive for PAM and complete a year or more.. Im not bailing out.. People burn bridges doing that.. I learned that when I was in HVAC. I flip flopped companies every month or 2 until no one in town would hire me lol... I was young tho..
Get your 2 years OTR experience then get a local driving job its that simple. You HAVE to put in those two years to be able to use your CDL elsewhere because without experience local jobs wont even consider you. I speak from experience, especially with ELD's right around the corner OTR is not worth it and it's only going to decline until AI trucks come on the scene.
Perhaps I came into the industry from a different perspective but I did not do a lot of research but have been with the company I am with for 10 years. I figured everyone has to eat and drink. And the difference between a dry van and a refrigerated trailer was a toggle switch; toggle up-refrigerated trailer/toggle down-dry van. Some logic and reasoning does work.
I’m 15 and learned to drive since a very young age I’ve always loved trucks and big Diesel engines and I want to make trucking my job once I’m old enough
Hello. Thank you for sharing your perspective on the trucking industry. There are so many different opinions out there, I'm been working in medical transportation for 10yrs and I'm tired of transporting people, I'd rather transport merchandise and I have been seriously thinking about transitioning into the trucking industry, but wanted to weigh the pros and construction and make sure that trucking is really something I would like to do.
I'm not even interested in trucking for money. It is just one of the things I could do to support my family. All I want is to feed myself and my family.
There is a lot of negative feedback on UA-cam and sites about certain companies and trucking in general. Use this information but balance it out with the positives. Go with what feels right, looks right, and is right. Just put in my application with PAM today.
Lioness Fitness hey I’m 17 years old and was wondering what ur pay per hr is because I looked it up and can’t get a exact number I would love a answer to decide whether this is a good choice or not
The only thing keeping me from trying to work as a truck driver is the the weedz. I joke when i say smoking makes me sober but at the same time im dead serious. Nicotine from the vape to avoid getting paranoid from the thc and it balances me out. Sad but true.
That's why I stopped smoking weed, I feel like weed is a rock In the way and holds you back from your true potential in life. I'll probably smoke it again but once I get everything figured out in life.
I've been fixing trucks for about 10 yrs I honesty rather drive them the pay seems way better then fixing them slot less work maybe more time that is fine cause I have time I'm 26 and just got my CDL going to a training program in a few weeks hope it turns out well not a big family and no kids
thanks for insight....need all I can get. This had been a dream since I was a kid in my Dad's truck. Always been my biggest regret that I will soon fix!
There’s a lot of CDL holders to pin drivers against each other for lower pay I’ve heard and seen in my opinion here in Texas. Not a shortage of cdl holders just a lot quit after a while for a break because of shit pay
I assume a good number of truckers are people who did something else first and then got into trucking as a second career. What do you think of someone getting into it later in their working life, like in their mid-50s?
Great advise.. I’ve done my homework and I’m confident I’m going with Pam Transport.. I’ve been told “u not gonna make it” and that’s negative and I’m confident I can do it.. so as a women, What advice do u have for me?

That sentence makes no sense. Should have paid attention in grade school bro.
Nathan Randall yet only a select few can perform the job. More people quit than stay
Nathan Randall Wrong you can only get a trucking job if you have experience. If not it will be the shittiest trucking job that nobody wants to do.
