You guys should do another one of these for 2015-16!!
You guys should definitely do a 2016 version of this.

It is absolutely AMAZING just how far these videos have evolved from this one until now! You guys should be so so proud of what you've achieved
im glad you all mentioned that the budget you're working with isn't "lowest possible" but rather a next step up haha. makes me glad to know i've got a few nice stepping stones to walk on before taking any kind of HUGE leaps to a nicer quality guitar.
It's *crazy* how nice of a guitar you can get at this price. Now, they're not as valuable, or collectable, obviously. The materials might not be rare, or priceless. _But_ you can get a _very_ playable and great-sounding instrument that even looks cool and can be played at a gig without embarrassment!
And these are all new guitars, you can find some dirty cheap high end guitars if you know where to look. I bought a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 for $300 in mint condition and it still plays wonderfully and I only changed the pickups because EMG's don't cut it for me.
When I went to get my first guitar after not playing for 20 years, I had a budget of $2,000 US. I went the opposite approach and spent most of my budget on the guitar. Subsequently, I had to get a solid state amp. If I had it to do over again, I would do the same thing.
This one is the best intro you have made, i really like it.
Please do an 2016 affordable guitar 200-450 range and AMP 200-450 range
*shaffordable
if your willing to pay 450-490 I HIGHLY reccomend a fender modern player telecaster, they look insanely nice and sound much better than most squiers and are literally ideal for almost anything.
Problem is all the mexian , USA and CHINESE made guitars are 300-600 bucks MORE for the same thing in AUSTRALIA compared to UK or USA , so often something 500-600 bucks in USA ends up AUD$900-AUD$1200 with all this (import tax/tax/etc bs)
ah ok, i see. maybe you could try out an epiphone les paul special II. great guitar, cots under £150 in the uk, so i assume it wouldn't be overly expensive in austrailia
epiphone les paul special II is listed as AUD$450 and down to AUD$300 here but its out of stock - www.scmusic.com.au/products-page/electric-guitars/les-paul-epiphone-special-ii-black-ebony-electric-guitar/? ................... Normally UK to AU is double
Little unfair though, Rob makes every guitar sound awesome!
Proof that a good guitarist can make even a cheap guitar sound good.
You guys have come a long way 👍🏻
LOVE the new 11 second intro!
The Ltd was probably the best sounding one.
Ya'll always do great reviews. "Hence you'll notice, the hum has been bucked!"
I got the epiphone les paul when I started and I still use it for gigs today it can almost compare with my les paul traditional and it's better for metal anyway (with pickup change) but it still sounds amazing with the stock pickups. Amazing guitar love it to bits plays really nice and it is a pure tonal guitar no frilly edges just amazing tone!
Aw, sick man. This really helped me narrow down my options. Thanks much and rock on! \m/
Classic Vibe sounded amazing!
♥ ♥Great stuff! Keep up the awesome work ♥ ♥
Why are cheap guitars always played through amps that cost 3 times as much as the guitar? If I can afford anything but a $250 guitar I don't want to hear it played through a $1000 amp.
I already got it a few days ago, and much happier now. I dont have an issue watching the first bit of an ad when I can hit "skip ad". I started to complain when I suddenly had to watch the full commercial ( because no "skip ad" option was there).
..something that I know is any time a video is posted, there is an option to "monetize" it. along with options on how they are to be monetized. Since Mr Rob is the one uploading, Im pretty sure that he's the one who chooses those options.
ESP clean neck pickup sound was lovely!
This is very useful video. And it's my price range. Thank you for making this video.
Man I love your videos.
i agree, the amp makes a HUGE difference to the sound. more than many people realise!
you guys make great videos.. always interesting...
You guys are great love the reviews
I have a Yamaha Pacifica but switched the Humbuckers with Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invaders and it's a monster. I also bought it a new tremolo and Faceplate, knobs, tuning pegs.
the strat sounded awesome
My Cort Z44 (mahogany/contoured set neck/ emg pups/ coil tap) was bought new for 440$CAD. (238 british pounds)
Extremely good and versatile cheap guitar if you ask me.
Now fitted with BKP Holydivers, totally different beast ;)
I love how people crap all over anything that's not vintage or around/over a grand when Rob just ripped the hell out of a 250 pound Squier. The player makes the gear work, and only a shitty carpenter blames his tools. We've all got preferences, and there are definitely some great guitars that cost an arm and a leg, but people lose sight of how much more important the skill is than the gear too easily.
J Har they are using a very expensive amp
Excellent bit f destruction overdrive :D and bloody iron man! made my day
Your sound production has come a long way since 2010.
i was just thinking the same thing.
Frank Young
@Processingh the song at 4:47 is Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" which can be found on their "Paranoid" album.
depends on the pickups..if u have humbuckers, the yes u are right..if u have single coils, its going to sound better for blues jazz country..hope that helps
Any chance of an update of this? There seem to be lots of affordable electric guitars that have come out since 2010. Include Vintage V624M?
Love your videos! Can you guys do this type of video again, but with some newer guitars?
I've had a Pacifica I bought years ago and after replacing the pickups I must admit it's a very good guitar, I'd definitely recommend that guitar to a beginner, mine is very easy to play and with a few pickup mods it sounds great.
I am with you gwugluud. My first electric was a Zenta esquire copy cost £25 in 1973. I loved it though :-) not many pedals about then. I overloaded my Zenta combo with a Philips reel to reel tape recorder
look how far you've come
Classic Vibe series are frickin' excellent
But are they Shaffordable?
Powerful Pumpkin!!
That epiphone studio was my first guitar! but in cherry wood color!!! I loved it but hated the only 22 frets, plus I got progressively heavier so I went to ESP/Schecter!
I have an Ltd m10 and it is worth $400 over here in tasmania, i actually got it for half that but it is actually a fantastic guitar, a great work horse and plays amazingly and the esp pickups are really good quality for the price range that they are in.
hey Chappers, for someone who just plays guitar for fun, do you reckon the ESP would be a perfectly decent project guitar? Anything you'd recommend changing about it? I'd only be looking at putting a new bridge pickup in, really, what do you think? Cheers!
Classic vibe has gone a long way since...
what it shows is how much headroom a nice classic vibe or high end epiphone's ect has for you to grow as a player. 20 years ago you had to dig to find a squire with a nice neck and it more than likely needed a fret leveling and the switches and pots were worse than trash. Once you learned how to play cowboy chords it needed upgraded or replaced. Now you have to dig to find a classic vibe that isnt a direct competitor to a mexi fender and more than good enough warrent a higher end amp purchase
Hi chappers, i have a cort z42, roland cube 15x and a boss me25.
Is it a good idea to upgrade to an esp mh 103gm ???
please respond!
Excellent bit f destruction overdrive :D
I hope one day they will review the ESPs Ohmura and Fujioka customs .
Agree 100%, unfortunately the Ibanez's I was referring to were J-Custom with Dimarzios, I just think they dont put enough effort into the whole instrument, if you look at the specs it should be pro level gear but for some reason they didn't have the sound the price tag demanded so I traded them.
Lovely to see a smashing pumpkins reference!!
Nicely tuned, that Yamaha ;-)
I have the EC-50 but what pickups would you reccommend as an upgrade?
Whats the Smashing Pumpkins song played on the Pacifica?
I think it's incredible how many different opinions people can have about guitars and the unlimited different customisation preferences, but let's not argue embrace it brethren (y)
Could someone tell me what the song he's playing at 2:15 is?
does this apply to all basswood? Some of the most expensive Ibanez are basswood and they claim their basswood is different. What's your thoughts on this? thanks.
I love my Pacifica almost as much as I love my own child. If you get the chance (as I was lucky enough to) play it next to a Squier Affinity. Blows it to pieces. (This video is quite old, the very decent Classic Vibe range isn't in the same price range any more)
hey! what about the gibson melody maker? any opinion regarding it? is it at the same "level" of the guitars in the video?
+MrReitan6 nope , that costs around $700-750
were you playing bls's crazy horse with the pacifica?
Awesome! What distortion pedal is being used here?
You guys ought to do an affordable vs high end pointy headstock death machine shootout. compare some metal guitars with cheeaer ones.
my first electric was a behringer wich my father bought for 100 bucks together with an amp. i never played it, so i rather consider a bc rich warlock bronze to be my first guitar. it's actually pretty awesome, the warlock is one of the most comfortable shapes to play sitting down. i bought it for 80 bucks, and i still have it. i'll probably take out the buckers when i start building guitars.
Would you know reccomend the Squire classic vibe teles? they are amazing for the price
on the EC, how's the access to the 24th fret?
Proud player of a Pacifica 112 Black :-) Sounds great for it's price
Hard to believe this was 7 years ago!
hey is it just me or do all of ESP/LTD les paul copy's kinda sound flat when you try to do blues?? i think they're strictly just for metal....
I have to admit it is very clever to present affordable guitars played through an more or less expensive tube amp...
My god Chappers we love you! :D
what did you play first on the strat? because it was awesome :)
Chappers, can you please do a video about semi-hollow body guitars, so hard to pick one?
i want to buy my first electric guitar( i play an old 50$ acoustic for 6 months). Should i take yamaha PAC112V or squier strat? my type of music is grunge and alternative rock and i can't decide between these 2 guitars... is there anyone who has both and can help me?
i bought a clasic vibe from them the other day good gitar got the white one but changed the scratchplate to a tortoise shell one
Tone rolled off on Pacyfica or something like that ?
whats the name of the song in the intro?
I laughed my ass of when you screamed NEXT! (And yes I'm the guy that told you to cut your hair and sorry about that because I love your videos)
i was already annoyed with this video when they said blackstar HT50...sure you run any guitar through an $800 amp head it's gonna sound bad ass. xD
Except they dialed it in really poorly. They all sounded really harsh to my ear
theaxedude1
kind of beyond the point but what sounds good is kind of subjective. regardless, $800 isn't what i would call "affordable." throw a cheap $200 guitar on it and you're still looking at a grand. i'm not sure many people would be happy with these guitars when they get them home and plug them into their $80 15w solid state. nothing against solid state amps, i actually prefer them over tube amps for a few reasons. but i think you're better off spending a bit more on a quality instrument especially if you're looking for a cheap rig and don't wanna drop $800-$2000 on an amp. i mean who's gonna go buy a $200 guitar and even look at the higher end amps?
I lov the squier, I own one at the moment, but I'm going to buy a Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus :).
Yeah there must be grades for all woods. As any wood can be bad. Some of the best pro guitarists who are endorsed using basswood. They can pick any wood they want in their signature line but they still chose basswood. I've read that basswood is in between the tone of alder and mahogany, pretty balanced sound. Thanks for your opinions, I'll listen more and decide.
I like the Classic Vibe basses. The guitars are cool but the basses are where it's at man.
@TypicalDooche that ESP EC was actually a really nice guitar. its affordable, plays everything, 24 frets, good sound, yeah, seems awesome!
It would be interesting to hear what they sound like properly tuned.
Awww. Look how shy they are. Not familiar at all. If only they knew ;b
I used to have one it sounded ridiculously good...
is there a bass version of this?
@servantguitar That's right dude! I will re-record it soon ;-)
the best affordable guitar i think is an epiphone sg.. it plays great clean, blues, rock and even metal.. and i think it sound even better then the ltd ec
what was your first guitar Chappers ?
So the classic vibe strat was £250 at Andertons and now you sell it at £420! Is that correct? or am I wrong?
Love Pacificas! I have a 120S that you'll have to pry from my cold, dead... anyway, something wasn't set right with the 112. The ESP took this shoot-out. NEXT!!
Loved the Bon Jovi :)
NEEEXT!!!!
I guess the pick up us good, but i think the sound is a bit unclean and crappy due to the set up? Some notes are not clean but buzz a little
Right now, squiers are double and pacificas are slightly less.
you guys should do an affordable strat shootout
You guys should do a 2020 version of this
NEEEXTTT...!!!!!
Pacifica is great !
Smashing Pumpkins- Cherub Rock at about 4:00. Lol
