When I was a kid, in around 1979, I saw a friggin Fender Broadcaster for sale at a yard sale. Like $50. There was no way my grandma was going to spend $50 for me at a yard sale, and I wasn't even playing guitar yet. (My "BIG" Christmas present each year back then cost less than that.) I was about 10 years old, and I think quite reasonably I had *no* idea how old and valuable that guitar already was. In fact, I thought: "Well, I've heard of Fender Stratocasters, and Telecasters, but never a 'Broadcaster.'" That's how I remembered it so vividly, and a few years later I realized what I had missed out on. A Broadcaster could _only_ be a '51 (I think- or right around that year) and often go for $25,000-$30,000 USD these days. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

I can't believe it's been 9 YEARS since this video, and I think of this as one of the newer videos. The changes from the early videos are enormous. (I remember when Captain was really uncomfortable in front of the camera) I think it was this video and Rob's comment that he was adding the Classic Vibe Tele to his collection that made me buy one a few months later.

Isn't it funny how Fender is a company you learn to appreciate more as you get older. Like, as soon as you start accepting them into your life it's JUST the strat... You find that shape and sound acceptable, but the tele looks ugly and disgusting and you hate them, but then as time grows on you, the tele starts looking nicer and nicer, then after a while there's no guitar in the world more beautiful, and the strat just looks kind of crude to you lol Then in comes the Jazzmaster! Still 50/50 on that one, but i do love Jim Root's one's with the brushes aluminium EMG's

I had a couple of heavy duty commercial shelving units (18' long). My neighbor saw them and said he wanted them bad, real bad for his new shop. I told him "take them, they are yours". A few days later he came by and handed me a hard shell case and told me to open it after he left. He said.... "I had this in my closet and never really used it. I know you love to play so I thought it best to give it to you, to be played as it deserves to be."
He left and it took everything I had to just stare at the case with the Fender Logo on it, wondering what might be inside. To celebrate my new gift, I got myself loaded, chilled out and calmed down. Alone in my music room I opened the case and inside.... A like new American Tele, Black just like the one in this video, only older (dates to 91 from what I can tell). Took the pick guard off to spray out the electrics, lube the switch and inside, a penny found from 1991. My neighbor did not put it there.
After a total cleaning/polish and set-up (I do my own work), Strings, plugged in and discovered "The Monster". A guitar that I now reach for first.
    The story continues.....
After much though (remember, loaded) I pondered which song to play first. I decided to go with "Danger", in memory off the recently passed JJ Cale (the Clapton, JJ Cale Version). I knew the guitar would wail, but could she play a song like Danger, well?
    She made me cry.......

Geat playing guys, love the teles, I bought one in '73, the 72 thinline USA with f hole, humbuckers. My sons shunned it, they called it "that old brown thing" (mocha - official colour), then my son told his music teacher that dad had a fender telecaster and he came home gushing and wanting to play my guitar. The teacher told him it was a classic, legendary guitar. H e now plays metal with a schecter, a jackson and an esp but every now and again he cranks up the amp and the humbuckers and gives it a good thrashing. I still play and love this guitar, my fender thinline, cheers.

I have played guitar since I was 12 and I am 47, a few years back, since I was established enough financially to support it, I decided I was finally going to buy the best guitar in the store regardless of cost, I spent hours playing the highest end guitars, and everything else, it came down to two guitars. An Epiphone John Lee Hooker Limited Edition Sheraton II Elitest, or the blonde squire you show in this video. They beat everything in the store, I went with the Epiphone because my pride decided I was going to spend some money on a high end guitar. Here is the Irony, my main guitar before this was an Ibanez custom which was made in Japan in 79. It is the main reason I never needed another guitar, I come to find out by entering the serial numbers in a search engine for guitars, that the Ibanez and Epiphone were made in the same custom shop at the Tekada plant in Japan. I guess I like their guitars the best. Tomorrow I buy a squire strat on sale. I am looking forward to having a light guitar for live play.

The fit and finish is just as good as my US standard strat and it has upgrades such as locking tuners, noiseless pickups and the added strat pickup in the middle position. Super awesome guitar. i used to own a blonde 50s squier classic vibe telecaster. the fit and finish were great. nice fret job with the ends trimmed and finished below the lacquer. the only reason i dont have it anymore is that i traded it off with other gear for an american telecaster. with all the joy of the american tele, i still had to file off the fret ends when the first cold winter came here, as the maple and rosewood shrink up a bit, and the fret ends stick out. my biggest issue with fender is that the necks are flat sawn, not quarter sawn. truss rod adjustments are needed seasonally. my gibsons with quarter sawn necks never need truss rod adjustments. cheers mates.

The neck pickup in a telecaster is a single coil with a cover, not a lipstick.
The lipstick pickup was pioneered by Danelectro, because its easier and cheaper to make. It's simply wire wrapped around a magnet in a chrome tube to keep it all neat.
A single coil (as I'm sure most of you know) is wrapped around individual magnetized pole pieces, not a single magnet.

Wood takes time to adjust. If your truss rod adjustment is at the body, loosening the string tension to make a quick adjustment is fine. In fact it's better to loosen the strings to adjust the Trussrod. The wood takes about 24 hours to slowly adjust. .

So what is the difference in hardware such as tuners??? Pots? Weight? Frets? I am interested in what kind of materials are used that makes the price differences.. Most of the sound comes from the amp these days.. Do they stay in tune? Etc. etc. eTC!

    • @trevaundhom1850
      @trevaundhom1850 10 років тому

Mainly the body woods are different. The lower end stuff is usually made of basswood. The tuners are usually the same between the models. You either get the vintage tuners, the standard tuners or locking tuners. They do stay in tune very well because of the scale length. A guitar is literally a sysyem. Body wood makes a difference, neck and fretboard woods make a difference, string gauge makes a difference, bridge type makes a difference, pickups make a difference, your guitar lead makes a very tiny difference but still makes a difference, amps make a difference. But anyway, the biggest reasons the prices are different is because of the location in which its made and the amount of care taken in testing and sourcing the wood

I'm a luthier and i can say without a doubt, he's full of shit cause he said that saddles were made of bone or tusk sometimes. there are only brass and steel saddles. Either way Squier aren't very good, the electronics are horrible, but if you replace them with some $150 fender N3 noiseless pickups, they will sound exactly like the $1500 fender american deluxe telecaster, I've done it myself and compaird it to my friends Am Deluxe tele and they sound identical. WOOD MAKES NO DIFFERENCE, IT'S A TACTIC GUITAR CO.'S USE TO MAKE YOU OVER PAY. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "TONE WOOD" (unless its in an acoustic, wood makes all the difference there, but not in electrics) A LUTHIER IN ENGLAND HAS PROVEN WOOD DOESN'T MATTER, however, if you like the way the wood looks on a tras painted guitat go for it, its not my place to tell you how to spend your money. Just trying to educate anyone who will listen, and warn them of the bullshit that is fed to them. I once believed that tone wood made a difference, I wasn't as knowlegeable back then as i am now, but just think about it, pickups are magnets and magnets dont pickup wood... It's that simple. To anyone who has read this entire rant, thank you. i hope you believe me, at the end of the day I just hope i can inform those who have been tricked into believing the crap from not only fender but so many others, also cheap guitars are still cheap for a reason, dont take this as you can buy a squier and get a Fender sound

Yeah. a mim's parts are of better quality in general. ***** But the first ever fender electric guitar was called an esquire so it came out before the tele. The esquire wasn't a budget version. It just had one pickup but a capacitor that changed the sound in the first position (towards the neck). In the middle position, it puts in the tone pot, and in the bridge position, it's kind of like a blow switch. It takes out the tone pot but leaves the volume pot in. And eventually, the esquire eventually did have 2 pickups but with the same capacitor in the neck pickup. And the tele bridge was strung through the body and the esquire was strung directly into the bridge. And they sound VERY different

Some old growth pine can be really stable but a big problem with it (being a soft wood) is warping/ twisting... I am not sure how they deal with the issue of getting all the sap out of the wood either, but I would hope they do. That is my only real hang-up with a pine guitar. I would prefer Alder or Ash based on how strong and stable it is. The poly finishes are stronger, but I feel they kinda "dull" the guitar sound. I relic'ed a J bass for my brother, and it sounded way better after sanding it

Mario Martin guitars (formally Guitar Mill) make fantastic American Tele's out of pine. I'm growing to prefer it. Swapping the pickups with an Arcane pickup or a Dimarzio Area 615 bring some of the best tones as far as aftermarket ones go.
