Man, you're killing me! I have fished the Owens out of the gorge and pleasant valley many times..my favorite being the fall with streamers! Ahh the taste of alkali and the sweet smell of sage brush. Never been to that headwater, looks interesting! Now here's what inquiring minds want to know? Did you stop a Schat's Bakery for a Mule Kick sandwich or goodies??
This was definitely a first for me. I've always wondered where it started. I can't wait for the fall! We didn't stop at Schat's Bakery, but we did grab a breakfast burrito at Mahogany Smoked Meats and it was a great way to start the day! The headwater is a cool place to check out, but the fish are small. Still pretty cool, though.
Is owens now all fly fishing. Only ( or can you still still fish with live , bait i use too catch big ones in the owens by Benton’s crossing with crickets and nitecrawlers ,both rainbows and German browns .that was about 30 years back .
@@RoadandReel what’s the limit now for trout , I live in Bakersfield that’s too far too drive just too catch a few trout . Not like old times but I’m almost 70 the high sierras had tons of good fishing 🎣 back 50 years ago catch your limit in about a hour big trout
@@fracman55 on the Owens, it's catch and release only. Most areas are 5 trout and there are a lot of creeks around Bishop that are that way. Most of the lower Owens is 5 trout, just not in the wild brown section below Pleasant Valley Reservoir along Chalk Bluff.
My friend. You've got waaaaay to much line out when drifting. By the time you SET the fish may be gone. Especially when the drift is coming towards you, hand pull that line up off the water..
I fished there many years ago and the limit was 10 ,and you could camp out right by the river as long as you want all nite .
Dang! I don’t think I have ever fished upper O without snow on the ground, looks beautiful and green! Awesome man! Gotta check out those head waters!
Yeah, it was some crazy weather and we ended up at Mammoth Brewing Company, so I think it worked out ok 😆
Awesome video
Yeah, it was a good time. I crack up every time I watch the fish go through your net, lol

@@RoadandReel MSM is the bomb!!
Where were you from the Benton Bridge and Browns?
I was about 1 mile North of Benton's crossing in the first location and the second location is about 3 miles North of the Mammoth Lakes turn off.
@@RoadandReel thanks was just up there and have ranged up and down the Owens ever hopeful !!!

Everything above the bridge is artificial barbless only. You can use lures as long as they're barbless.
@@RoadandReel that’s ridlicous , it cost a fortune too fish and is everything barbless now in the owens river , I’m not a fly fisherman

I appreciate the feedback. I'll try that next time out, thanks!
Have you ever fished the law canals
Yeah, a few times. There's some really good fishing there with A LOT Browns in the 12 inch range.
