Some notes about this video: 1. Although I thought I was well below the Hot Creek Geological Site to the point where water temperature should not be an issue, I have been told that the lower section I was in may be too warm for decent trout fishing. Best to fish the upper section between the private ranch and the Hot Creek Geological Site. 2. When fishing the Upper Owens River it is best to stay out of the river to avoid disturbing trout habitat which was a mistake made only at one location during the entire time we were on this river. We will make sure to note that in future videos.
Loved this video! Nice that you got some nice 🐟 on redemption day there!! Love at the end, “I use his video’s to fall asleep at night” 😂😂😂😂 It’s good to have friends like that! Thanks for the shout out on MoonShade Mike! Really appreciate it! Cheers! 😊
Looks lime a fun time. The area below the geological site because of the warm water holds almost no trout just chuychubs. You have to go almost to the owens to get anything.
@@durtyflyadventures Now you tell me!!! LOL. Well thanks for the info. The guy I met have been fishing from the bridge crossing the lower section and was working his way up and had not caught anything so I assume you mean from the bridge crossing downstream to the Owens - that section. Will check out next time and thanks for the info Nick! 👍
@@flyfisher530 haha, ya even more downstream but honestly I would skip fishing that whole section. The upper owens is really the best spot especially if you cover a lot of ground
Great video I love the Mammoth area. Man where is that campsite it looks amazing? Would love to find some dispersed camping up there, hate having to book campsites 6 Months in advance.
Yes where we camped they were not bad at all, but by the river they tended to get worse. I just put lots of bug spray on and went for it! I absolutely hate wearing waders and will avoid them if at all possible!
I dont generally give out locations but the general camping area is along both the north and south sides of Owens River Road, the section north of the town of Mammoth Lakes. We were fishing the Upper Owens River both upstream and downstream of the Benton Crossing Bridge. Thanks for watching!
Gotcha I appreciate the reply. I’m heading out there second weekend of September. I’m taking some first timer campers and I’m feeling an immense pressure to find the perfect spots to camp disperse camp. 🤦🏾♂️ I want them to have a good experience. I’ve dispersed camped out there before but never found a spot I like. I’m tempted to just reserve a campsite somewhere but all the reviews I read have bear sightings during day and night. I’ve never had that when dispersed camping. Do you think bears mostly show up at campgrounds because people don’t properly store their food and usually we don’t see bears when dispersed camping us because we know what we are doing? Just don’t want to scare my friends with bears 😮
@@davidgonzales9308 David I really like the dispersed areas north and south of Owens River Road. Lots of shade trees, level ground, and usually you can find a spot away from other people camping. Regarding bears, I have never had an issue in this area, but its not impossible. However, I do think the main campgrounds are where they are most likely to go due to the abundance of people camped close together and the ability to find coolers and other food items left out on picnic tables, etc. If you are really nervous about bears you can tie a wrench to some paracord and throw it over a tree branch and hang your garbage bag up high where a bear cant get to it easily....and at least 100' from camp. That will be the most likely source to attract them is your garbage. Having an air horn or your key fob (with emergency horn button) is probably going to scare them off real quick if they do come around. Feel free to email me at info@flyfisher530.com if you have more questions. Hope you have a great time!

North or south of Owens River Road have dispersed camping even for large RV’s
cool to see! I just started living in Mammoth and have fallen in love with the fly fishing there
@@Jsuss83 it’s a beautiful area. Thanks for watching!
How were the skeeters & bugs? See shorts & short sleeves being worn. July 2nd, the buggers were fierce! Gnats, skeeters, no-see-must etc!!

Is the place where you always camp that’s in the trees between crest view rest area off 395 and mammoth lakes?
Yes both north and south of Owens River Road has great dispersed camping!
Thank you
Have you ever tried the Owen’s river below Pleasant Valley reservoir?
@@garyurzik2123 Yes in an early video 395 Overlanding- Part 1. No luck there the one day we fished it. But I know it can be real good at times.
I notice you never camp near the upper Owens River? Is it because of the evening winds and bugs?
Yes David. More so for winds as it’s pretty exposed out there and no shade trees.
