When should you choose a workstation and when should you choose a gaming PC?
It all depends on what you're going to use your PC for, obviously, but there is more to it than that.
Keep watching to find out.

Every pc gamer ever: I need a workstation
no actually not
@@filetsteak5677 r/woooooosh
@@communistpotato7293 hahha so funny dumbass
@@filetsteak5677 why not
@@fightfannerd2078 because many workstation cpus aren't as good as gaming cpus
always ask the computer guy I need workstation ...and he built a PlayStation for me ...
Workstation is not a potato pc. Workstations are like gaming pc but made for work.
It's more like lvl 5 multitasking gaming PC
the real question is, can workstation run minesweeper?
@The Joker Not necessarily. I have a workstation PC with a 9940X, 64GB ram, and a 2070 Super. I primarily use CPU and RAM for my tasks, but I also game a little bit. 100+ FPS max settings 1440p on any game title. Sometimes 4K is above 60 FPS depending on the game.
Um......Yes you can....Workstations Get the Same Frame rates as Gaming machines. the only reason u dont want to get a workstation PC over a gaming PC is actually because a Workstation PC will costs u like 10x more money and will get you the same Gaming Performance. there is nothing wrong with gaming on a Xeon if u can get one for a good price.
is that really true?
My son ran a dual xeon hp XW8400 with 32gb of ecc ram and 1050ti laterally. Until a few years back he used the quadro that was in it for about 7 years.
It ran flawlessly and even the quadro delivered decent performance until he started to ask it run DX 11 games.
It was replaced with a 1050ti which worked admirably but they've start to release games now that are using instructions not on those old Xeons so some games stop working.
It's had it's time.
It's lasted ten years past it's retirement.
Just amazing computers.
I'm trying hard to re-use the case but I'm guessing it will be HP proprietary.
We'll see.
Workstations for the win!
Luv and Peace.
If you have extra money you should bye a workstation with a good graphic card and boom you have the best
One of the leading causes for dropping out of engineering programs in university was young adult buying workstations to game, or buying gaming pc thinking they would work and sometimes play...
It's all play in college, who are we kidding. From experience 3 roommates failed classes by gaming too much and not doing hw. Only I survived because I used a fking chromebook with no games and did my work at the university computers.
Human nature is not to be underestimated
Anyone else thought another tab was playing music? lol.. Music doesn't fit right with this video =D
LOL SAME
I wanted to render a very large video but I wanted to use the workstations for another project so I used a standard graphic PC tower computer, and because it would take such a computer days to render the video I left it alone to get on with it. 3 days later it was still working on that video, so I continued what I was doing on one of the workstations and I could smell burning which smelt like solder! It was the PC tower the memory chips was so hot it made a sizzling sound when I touched it with my finger.
The computer had a memory chip failure message. The memory chips were too hot to touch so I used a clamp and put the memory chips in the fridge freezer. Amazingly the next day when I put the memory chips back in the computer they worked! The computer smelt a bit cooked! but amazingly the computer did work!
That is the difference between a workstation and a PC desktop or laptop. The desktop games PC, will play games better than a workstation.. but a workstation has a lot more memory and processors and is used for heavy number crunching day in day out, with server grade hardware.
Can I use a gaming pc for video editing?
If your a youtuber, live streamer just go Ryzen for a workstation, gamer. The extra cores will give you the boost you need.
Gaming PC: Handles 1 task faster
Workstation PC: Handles multiple tasks faster
*:edit:*
Gaming PC: Slower at multiple tasks.
Workstation PC: Slower at 1 task.
lets say if i play pubg in a workstation will that be good or bad?
@@MrPoppy1 Well I dont consider myself an expert. But they will both handle pretty well. I've built 2 P.C's. My first one I invested 600. My second I invested 1900.
I believe the answer you're looking for is yes. Yes the workstation can play PUBG. Pretty well.
A gaming PC usually invests more money in a GPU. A workstation usually invests more in a CPU and a motherboard that can hold two CPUs.
See with a workstation build you can game, while processing some files in the background for video editing for example, and transferring files from one device or location to another, all at one time at a blazing speed.
With a gaming PC, you can do one of these tasks. Such as gaming.... at a ridiculous speed, because your entire system is devoting all of its resources to that one task.
@@andrewvirtue5048 yep Absolutely
wow you blew me
Andrew Virtue appreciate the insights you gave! sorry to bother but I’m really lost on what parts to get, do you mind listing your parts for your $600 build? And if it worked for workstation needs like graphic design and 2D animation?
I’m going in to an interface design program this fall but I want to still game. My max budget is $800-900 but I really want to keep it around 600
I use a HP z620,32 Gb ram,dual 2660xeons....

Ur spelling makes me sick no offense
One day I'll have both a gaming PC and workstation PC but might as well just focus on my current PC and go for an all around PC.
Thank you. Now I have a lot of thinking to do. I might not be able to replace some of those hardware in my pc right now but this really helps in case I have chance to build my pc in future
Perfect! Thanks for this explanation
A tower server is a good third option. It basically has similar hardware as a workstation but can often handle slightly more memory and often has more than two CPU sockets. The downside is you might not have more than one graphics option but if you can get a very good GPU in it, you have not only a good Gaming PC but with the heavier duty in general hardware designed for multitasking, storage capabilities, redundancy and sustained high demand use of a server as well as the out of band management features of most servers.
Wow!! Excellent video! It says everything what a was looking for.
It has perfect content, timing, humor, clear and concise, perfect!
Suscribed! and looking what other nice stuff do you have.
Thank you.
why is there always a fake comment
In my opinion, if you want to game as well as do art, animation, and design, I would go with the latest Intel or AMD processors and a Titan RTX graphics card or an AMD equivalent. This graphics card is a lot like the Nvidia Quadro cards but at about half the cost. This card will allow you to game at optimum effeciency as well as do top of the line art projects.
Not mecessarily. Heavy 3D rendering art will require the number of cores that workstation cpu’s have. Same for gpu’s, much more vram, but slower. Could be wrong tho
@@foxgaming76yt24 I know the BOXX Workstation line comes with high end
processors like the Xeon and usually have the Quadro line of graphics cards, but as you said as far as gaming goes it could be slower. I think that's why the RTX 3090 or even the 3080ti cards offer a happy medium between gaming and creativity while also offering a fairly good amount of VRAM.
@@rodneymathews6775 I doubt the 3090 will actually be slower than the quadro a6000, it'll most likely be faster, but I have neither the knowledge or the cards themselves to test this out however.
@PRIYANSHU PANJA Which card are you're referring to?
Music was too loud imo
Sorry about that! We've fixed this in our newest videos.
GamingScan i thought it was fine
I would add to that. Workstations use raid controller for storage. To get redundant storage. A Raid 1 configuration will use at least two hard desks each one is a mirror of other. So if one of them stopped working you will not lose any data and your work will not stop.
Connecting to multi network is sometimes required so they will have multi nic cards, and you can forget about wireless network for workstations.
Also, they may have redundant power supply.
And they uses high quality material for case. I am talking about heavy material. To stand the harsh environment
Can you make video about... is VA Panel worth to buy? and what curvature design (angle) is the best I really want to know
Thanks for this helpful video
For workstation motherboard is it need a necessary Ecc ram for working
Or normal desktop ram can work?
ECC only (i guess), i got my hands on a wordstation without RAMs, tried to stick DDR2 DDR3 into it but NOPE! (LGA 771)
Thanks...that helped
Finally a good video!! Thank you!

I just went to amazon to check the prices, they werent kidding. A full workstation would cost about $20,000
I just went on ebay and searched workstation. None of the listings are actually workstations.
Are workstation good for heavy data financial works like high speed trading etc.? Please reply.
Yes
Different sized tools for different sized jobs and tasks, I mean would you use a garden shears to cut your hair? Would you use a straight razor to trim your hedges?
Excellent video. I will be primarily doing photography, music and video production. So, it looks like I should lean towards a workstation. However, I do play some simulation games and record gaming videos for my UA-cam channel (my other UA-cam channel). So, I am wondering should I get a workstation and make sure the video card is up to gaming standards?
I want a machine that will last several years, the one I am using now is a decade old and still runs optimally. But I need to upgrade it for windows 11. Thanks
This is why we can build PCs. To combine Gaming PC and Workstation PC
I’m looking to build one as well.. so I can combine the two! For 3D modelling and multiplayers games... any suggestions that I can get would be great! Not really looking at a budget but eventually I will narrow it down to what best for both...
@@MrDavideblur i also want to do this. could you let me know how your search has gone?
@@MrDavideblur this is going to be hard. Why do you need a workstation though? What job requires you to own one? If you don’t necessarily require a workstation, getting it is not only a waste of money, but it would also be slower.
Will Ryzen 3900X 12 core, Support Msi X570-A Pro MB, with 2080 Ti 11 Gb at Max Usage? Will it be Stable ?
I mostly need my pc for using Linux and for programming in python using tensorflow. Also, I am a casual gamer. So which configuration should I opt for :
Amd ryzen 2950x with asus rog zenith extreme x399

Please do suggest me
The gaming benchmarks are almost the same.
But, in workstation, TR 2950X is WAY better.

Thread ripper 2950X is the best option intel is not good for work station

May sound dumb but why cant the basic workstation have two gpus? When the game runs it will access the gaming gpu. And when processing for workstation it will use the other gpu.. two in one?
I'm looking for rendering cpu.
Server cpu with more cores and threads or go for i7 or i9 or amd threadripper
Do you have a video about difference between workstation and gaming Graphics card?

I bought a workstation for gaming which cost me PKR 67000 ($393 according to Google currency converter) and run games on ultra, some games run on very high graphics with 1080p display. I have
Xeon E5 1620
32GB RAM
RX 560
2TB HDD
128GB SSD
635W POWER SUPPLY

GTA V
JC3

RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER
CYBER HUNTER
TOM'S CLANCY GHOST RECON

Hi. Im looking to mostly do professional IT work with all the softwares installed on it but would also like to game in my free time like PubG, FiFa and so on. What should i choose? Powerful Workstation or Gaming PC?
I suggest you to take a workstation cause they have high ram and memory so u still can play nicely in it and you can do multiple tasks at a time
Workstation GPU's are designed to crunch double precision numbers, which are more frequently used in CAD.
In Games the GPU's that overhead is useless, which is why they're not as suitable for that application.
They're also more overbuilt and have more refined drivers, to ensure compatibility with CAD software.
Is a Workstation good for Fl studio?
Hy, thank you for this video. The modern workstation has other components than before.
Epig is not designed for gaming
But old xenon from intel are brilliant.
And the case is also better for gaming because it gives you more air.
My pc case did not include air. Where can i buy that?
What about Dell Precision T5500 workstation?
ah yes Epig and Xenon
I built my PC for gaming with the Hope's for potentially getting into editing ect.
I9 9900 K
2080 TI
64gb
2T M.2
That's a powerful build so you'll be fine :D
same here but for AutoCAD
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
2080 super
64GB RAM
2TB SSD
So basically just go with a gaming pc spec build?
Since my work involves mostly research with lots of chrome tabs open, I think a ryzen 5 3600 should suffice.
Chrome Tabs isn't at all CPU task it's the RAM task
Can i install workstation motherboard in gaming desktop pc case?
Depends on the size, motherboards have a size like ATX. MINI ATX, etc...
When you buy a case, you have to check if it supports that size,
Is RTX 2080 Ti is good for rendering work and 3D simulation ( solidworks, AutoCAD, Eplan etc)?
Of course it can but It might be run as fast a low-end quardro GPU. If u only work on CAD and solidwork no gaming. I suggest put that money on mid-range Quadro GPU.
go for an quadro if you dont care about gaming
Renders very good, i have a 2080 super by EVGA. I run CAD, Plant 3D, Inventor etc etc... performs awesome
What about business pcs with intel core i7 16gb ram and 1TB SSD CAN they give 240 fps on games or at least 120?
The graphics card needed
gaming machines can do what workstations do no problems at all, it just depends on how complex and intensive the work, rendering a 5 thousand polygon model in 3DS or Maya for example might buy you a couple seconds of time on a workstation if at all, then same thing with CAD drawings - are you drawing a house or a building, same thing with industrial design - are you designing a fire hydrant or a tank, same thing with video editing - are you processing a full length movie or a small 5-10 minute youtube video.., and if the machine is a single user that doesn't need to feed other people resources then your definitely not a server and most mid to high end CPU's are perfect, even if you have CAD, multiple web browsers, multiple reference pictures on second monitor, download data and streaming some music - you still don't need a workstation build and just a mid level gaming machines is fine.
watching this coz of online class😂😂😂☠
What do you call a pc that combines both?
All I need is a pc to use python, Microsoft products and to play MTG. Should I get a workstation or a gaming pc?
All you need is a CPU with a high core count, a GPU with Tensor cores (so a quadro series card would be best) and a good SSD. For SSD's the bigger the storage, the faster it will be.
thanks alot
I am also a workstation (DELL T3600) gamer. My specs are:
Xeon E5 1620 (3.6 GHz)
32GB RAM
RX 560
2TB HDD
128GB SSD
635W POWER SUPPLY
And runs most of the games on ultra, few of them on very high but its great in performance.
How much was your system?
Personal story.
Since I started school, I really wanted a computer good enough to play the things I like, being at the time PS2 games....so I was trying to emulate...on the old one. As you can guess didn't work out. A gaming pc is better at gaming because gaming favores higher clock speeds and 4 to 8 cores whilst workstations usually have a lower core clock with more cores
Very well said!
3-4 years ago i really like gaming but; Now i am in graduation and working too so i just made my pc with nvidia quadro rtx4000 and ryzen 7 3700x before that i mostly used laptops now when i work on my pc it is like super easy and not lagging even a bit. But due to lock down because of covid i play sometime with friends but not like extreme so a decent frame rate of 100-140 this setup provides me which is very much for me and now to be conclude I would suggest you to build a pc with quadro p4000 or less its same or cheaper nowadays and really you will not find anything missing. According to my work its super great. And as i said i am in graduation 2nd year work is important for me. You can take low end quadro cards and learn though them and afterwards you can switch to any other if you want later. But trust me you can barely say its not for gaming. But yes if you only do gaming its not for you.
4:27 that sounds good

How about you go all in on what makes you money. Sacrifice now and reap the rewards later. In other words, sacrifice now, and you’ll have both a workstation and a gaming pc later
Work station is like The Bat-mobile and Gamer PC is like a Porsche, one is build to be driven hard and everywhere, and the other just fast, but the Bat-Mobile can take you on roofs :)
If I want to build my own work station, could you give me best specs with company name..
does workstation run minesweeper? i think not.
I game on a workstation with a Nvidia Quadrio K4000 graphics card
I can hardly play any game with this and always lags
always have to put on super low graphics.
I dont suggest gaming on workstations unless you got that high-end Pro kind of station.
I have the same GPU and the two Xeon with 2.4 GHz each,I can hardly play FORTNITE at 40 FPS... Definitely jealous of my sisters pc..
Is your pc a HP z640? I hate this computer with all my heart too,it can’t even render that quickly! It sucks at being a computer overall
Your problem is most likely that your CPU power isn’t powerful enough to compensate for how low your graphics are.
i prefer z800
it can play fortnite in medium graphics above 60 fps
I'm building mine for both, gaming and work.

What are people's thoughts on using something like the Falcon Northwest? With the i9 9900k processor and Nvidia geforce rtx 2080ti graphics card. Water cooling and.... I'll stop there. Why cant I use this gaming PC which has a lot of great specs, it would seem for gaming and workstation use?
