Thank you for this helpful tip! I’m doing it now. Our pool is 24 years old and definitely needs replastering. The previous owners didn’t really balance the pool all that well. It sat in an acidic water for too long.
Good tip: if you're ever driving around and see construction crews working on a neighbor's house or something like that, pull over, find the lead guy and get his number. You never know when your gonna need it. More times than not, these are subs working for a contractor that you can hire on your own. However, the plus side of hiring a contractor is not having to manage the work yourself + contractors are typically licensed and insured.
rickflo I just put new floors down on my 1st floor of my house. I got the card of the lead guy and he said he would do my upstairs at less than half the cost. You’re correct and is a good tip.
A great tip, and that's exactly what i do and have met and used some great guys. I don't have a problem with people making money per se but i don't like paying the overheads of the guys at the top (their cars, their houses etc etc) especially as quite often they haven't got their hands dirty. Perhaps that's just me.
I really like the tiles on the edge of the stairs. Gave me a good idea. Anytime I have some older family or people over to swim they don’t like the white plaster cause they have a hard time seeing the edge of the stairs. I’m having mine plastered next spring and I’m definitely doing the tiles on the stairs.

That's a great way to get it done, I never thought of doing that. I got my replaster in 2019 at around $7200 in Southern California. I have taken care of my pool from day one and the plaster lasted from 1988. With this new plaster, I expect to get another 30 years, by half hour daily upkeep, easy.
I highly recommend not doing this most pool builder's remodeling companies give 5 or 10 year warrenty. Hi great video and information, I live in Sarasota just had my pool drained they also punched 6 holes 🕳 in my pool for the same reason, can you hook me up with the subcontractors number? I would love to have them do my pool thanks...
All the quotes I got they told me they drill the hole. It keeps the pool from floating up from the ground I’m told. They pour new concrete in the hole.
@@bjyachts The reason for this varies by location to location. Basically, if you have ground water at the depth of your pool, it can pop out due to hydraulic pressure. The hole just lets the ground water seep into the pool instead of pushing against it. Some pools actually come with valves built into them that you can just pop open instead of drilling new holes. Anyway, where I live there is no ground water under my pool so it's not a concern for me.
Nice pool, and great job that you found a subcontractor to redo plaster your pool. Last year I lost $500 for a security payment to a very well known pool company in Phoenix, Arizona. The pool I planned to build is 16'x32' which cost $40K. Just a simple rectangular pool, no water fountain or anything. I think it's ridiculous so I canceled it and lost $500, because the builder already submitted the plan to the city. Now, I am researching to build my own pool, hopefully I will start it this year and get it done by next year. Can't wait to get my own pool.
@@bjyachts Facebook is great for everything isn't it? I'm currently having my pool built so I knew nothing about the process otherwise I think if I did then maybe I could have sub contacted everything or the whole process as the pool builder has been here for about 5 or 6 times throughout the whole process about 30 to 45 minutes each time.
Replaster for me was about $8,000. Water was about $1250. This is on a 18' x 38' pool. Mine was done by an actual plasterer, not a pool contractor. What pool chemicals do you use to make your plaster last so long?
@@MrMusic55123 No. I had two semi trucks deliver the water right when the plasterers were done. After plastering, you need to get water in the pool faster than my garden hose and well pump can provide, so it doesn't crack. Plus, at the time my state was under a severe drought so pumping 27,000 gallons out of my well continuously wouldn't have been a great idea.
You could’ve done it yourself maybe with 8-10 gallons of Epoxy plaster paint way cheaper the labor is always the most expensive part materials are always cheaper but in some cases Labor is cheaper than materials the epoxy plaster paint lasts 10-15 years if you keep up the pool and don’t use excessive chemicals like the ones they try to sell you at pool supply stores
wait! so you can just 'plaster' a pool??? I'm a painter who's plastered houses, the whole point is too keep the walls dry so they don't get ruined. Is this some special type of 'plaster' in name only that you can just let stay wet forever? Are you sure they didn't epoxy over it?? I was gonna bid on a municipal pool today for ~75k ('sandblast + re-paint' - 5ya win bid) but figured i better learn how to do it first.

Frank Miraglia just pool plaster.
@@bjyachts awesome, thank you. This will come in very handy!
What light did you go with? Was thinking of doing myself. Cost?
Pentair 601002 IntelliBrite 5G Color Underwater LED Pool Light, 120 Volt,
48 hours.. thats incredible
Is one coat of plaster the norm? And what is the square footage of your pool?
J Lama one coat. I think it’s 21,000 gallons
Very informative! Good job!!!
40,000?!? Geeshhhhhh is that what these type of pools cost?
Go with rectangular shaped pool, I would never do a kidney shaped pool again!
did you ever get your pool?
Hi that is white plaster? It's not quartz is it?
It's white with color flakes in it.
@@bjyachts are the flakes supposed to make it look more blue?
I think it looks great. If those flakes give it the blue then no need to go with quartz.
MrNashtyone yes. No need for quarts. The video in the beginning shows a sample of what I used. Estes Blue
@@bjyachts Facebook is great for everything isn't it? I'm currently having my pool built so I knew nothing about the process otherwise I think if I did then maybe I could have sub contacted everything or the whole process as the pool builder has been here for about 5 or 6 times throughout the whole process about 30 to 45 minutes each time.
thank you sir. very helpful video.
Good job looks good
Replaster for me was about $8,000. Water was about $1250. This is on a 18' x 38' pool. Mine was done by an actual plasterer, not a pool contractor.
What pool chemicals do you use to make your plaster last so long?
what do you mean by water was $1250? Didn't you use your own water to fill it out ?
@@MrMusic55123 No. I had two semi trucks deliver the water right when the plasterers were done. After plastering, you need to get water in the pool faster than my garden hose and well pump can provide, so it doesn't crack. Plus, at the time my state was under a severe drought so pumping 27,000 gallons out of my well continuously wouldn't have been a great idea.
damn $3400??? what a great deal
DANG!! I WISH I BYPASSED POOL GUY!! TY for sharing.
How do you maintain your pool? Beautiful pool!
The texture is so you don’t slip
You could’ve done it yourself maybe with 8-10 gallons of Epoxy plaster paint way cheaper the labor is always the most expensive part materials are always cheaper but in some cases Labor is cheaper than materials the epoxy plaster paint lasts 10-15 years if you keep up the pool and don’t use excessive chemicals like the ones they try to sell you at pool supply stores
thats a great Deal!
That’s a hell of a deal.
wait! so you can just 'plaster' a pool??? I'm a painter who's plastered houses, the whole point is too keep the walls dry so they don't get ruined. Is this some special type of 'plaster' in name only that you can just let stay wet forever? Are you sure they didn't epoxy over it?? I was gonna bid on a municipal pool today for ~75k ('sandblast + re-paint' - 5ya win bid) but figured i better learn how to do it first.
Yeah, stick with what you're good at, or you're going to fuck somebody's pool up buddy.
