    So happy for this information! I mostly paint on acrylic paper, and was always frustrated about why I couldn’t blend and my paint never has good coverage like yours does.
    So glad it’s not all on me. Going right now to prep a few pages.
    Thanks for all you do. Your passion is contagious.

    Wow, I don't understand how I missed half of this video. I have been really struggling to paint on heavy paper from a pad. You described exactly what I have been dealing with. I have used 16×20 pre gessoed canvas pads for years. It never crossed my mind that the 9x12 pads were not gessoed. I have tried changing my paints, changing my brushes, and adding a ton of water. 6 paintings in, and I can't get a blend! I finally threw my hands up and started at the 1st video all over again. Then here's the answer: I don't understand how I missed it, but thank you. You're an angel 😇 sorry I should have said it's been 15 or more years, battles with 2 types of cancer, years of ongoing illness since I painted. I shake so badly I have trouble holding a pen. But because of your teaching, I drag my 69 yr old butt to the easel everyday. I felt like I was just waiting out the rest of my life, but you returned me to the joy I felt since I could hold a crayon ❤

    LOVED the beautiful colorful swirly backgrounds. I never heard of the watercolor block paper. I like to paint on paper, but the warping always prevented me from trying again. Always something to learn even as a fairly experienced painter. I've painted over a painting and didn't like the surface afterward. SO - I use this canvas as a practice board. Testing my techniques and colors.

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  3 роки тому +1

      Sanding (make sure to wear a mask) may help with that then, and canvas is paper is heavy enough it doesn't really warp if you want to try that 💞

    This is one of THE BEST VIDEO'S on UA-cam! The steps are an added bonus :)
    Cinnamon, I would like to see a video on the different types/options of frames. I have tons of finished canvases but don't know a easy way to stick the dang paintings in a frame! Another question: Are unframed' canvases easy to sell or do people want art that is already framed? Thank you Cinnamon and John too for all your work and dedication.

    All of these videos are SO helpful!!! I can't wait to try the easy paintings at the end. I love the ways I can do better with my acrylic paper paintings. That really changed the game. The only thing I didn't quite understand was do you remove the tape around the edges and then paint the edges that are missing color underneath? I'm sorry if you said that part and I missed it.

    Could I ask about canvas boards (particularly the cheaper ones you get at the craft store) vs stretched/traditional canvas in terms of how it affects the painting process? Are there any pros and cons like perhaps one dries faster or one is more difficult to blend on etc. Most of the comparisons I've found online only talk about about pros and cons regarding price, durability, storage and such stuff but not so much how the paint goes on to the actual canvas.

    The other fix for paper to not be wavy is to paint the back of it with two coats of paint, then to put soft gel gloss on front before you paint it. This makes the surface better for blending, and it helps with waving as well. Acrylic paper expecially. I used it on mixed media paper as well.

    Oh my goodness...missed you live, but just finished your video on canvas, and you answered a lot of questions I had about using acrylic sheets I planned to use for your teaching beginners. I was going to use my paramount sheets in 2 sizes, but they do not have 140 lbs...so now I know I will have to prep them according to your instructions...I will do this today. I also have a Strathmore Acrylic linen canvas sheets (246 lbs) that I can use size 9x12. These sheets are very smooth...I will paint a coat of white acrylic paint for under color on that one so our beginner lessons have something to bind to, Thank you for such wonderful info!

    QUESTION... I've invested (and I know that's an oxymoron - as I shopped at Walmart - not really much of an investment comparatively) in canvases, many canvases. I realize they're Walmart, so the quality isn't what you'd probably considered to par. They are pre-treated (or whatever you call it). Should I Gesso them at least one coat before I start? Or try one as is just to give myself something to compare to? Just trying to easy the frustration in the process, but knowing full well that it could also be a learning experience (though I'd rather not be frustrated).

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  3 місяці тому

      Canvases that are pre-geossed don't really need a coat of gesso. However, if after trying one you have issues with adherance and blending, then perhaps do one coat, or a coat of white paint. One tip also, use a damp sponge to wipe the canvas off to get the treatment they put on them to keep them from molding. This will usually help as well 💖

    What's your watercolour channel? I do both. What are ways to preserve the painting... especially if it'll be one for sale later. Is that wax good for just generally preserving or something else ? Also sounded like it was just to prep. Anything to seal the painting or is it good without ? Thanks btw. Love these videos

    Hi - thanks but I didn't understand why you didn't let the sealant dry before you added the gesso or white acrylic. I also didn't follow why you added water to the back of the paper. Been searching and no answers...

      The sealant dries very quickly. So there’s no difficulty applying the gesso at that point that said the conditions of my studio may be different than the conditions in yours, and you may find your sealant takes longer to dry. I went the back of the paper to make sure that the paper was not wet on one side, which can cause curling. Look up paper stretching. This is a practice done in watercolor and I think it’s a habit I’ve gotten into I hope these answers help

    WHEN USING GAC100 SHOULD YOU USE A DEDICATED BRUSH? OR CAN YOU CLEAN THE BRUSH PROPERLY AND PAINT? Thank you for this series. I’ve recently began painting again and this series has been a tremendous help.

      GAC 100 is easy to clean so you dont have to dedicate a brush to it like varnish. Do clean though

    IS GESSO AND PRIMER SIMILAR? AND CAN I USE PRIMER TO COVER UP A PAINTED CANVAS TO REPAINT IT?

    What about painting on Mixed Media Paper. Do you add water, Do you Gesso? What weight? What about Acrylic Pad paper?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  Рік тому

      Either gesso or add at least a couple of layers of white paint down first as paper is thirsty and will rob your paints of moisture, making it harder to blend. Heavier paper will work better. 💕

    Whenever I finish a painting & it's dried for a good week or so, I resin it to give it that beautiful finished look & protection. Sometimes I'll use a acrylic clear varnish.
    My question to you is what do you do or use as the final finish?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  3 роки тому +1

      If I am finishing a painting Artist Varnish - Spray for acrylic with a good uv factor
      (john does it as I am not great with the VOC)

    I so much enjoyed this video will have to come back take notes. I HAVE TWO VERY LARGE PIECES OF WOOD I BOUGHT Master's Touch GESSO CAN I DO 2 OR 3 COATS AND THEN PAINT ACRYLIC ON THEM? Thank you! 💜🎨

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  3 роки тому

      You can gesso directly on the wood and 2-3 coats are perfect, If you are not sure of the chemical treatment of the wood you can do an isolation coat with the GAC 100 before the gesso

    I am interested in getting into Bible Journaling. Videos I have seen show using Acrylic paints with Gesso prep on Bible pages. Do you have any recommendations for using Acrylics on Bible pages? Really enjoying your series. Thank you so much.

    I don't know if you'll even see this... but the prep that you show for paper before painting on it with acrylics - do you need to prep all paper that way, or are there any paper types that do not require prep?

    • @TheArtSherpa
      @TheArtSherpa  Рік тому +1

      Canvas paper doesn\t need as much prep and other papters. Canvas paper is basically like painting on a canvas, It is a very ecomical paper as well and you can paint over it and make corrections just like canvas 🌺
