That is because we have brains and challenge what people say rather than letting them getting away with spewing BS unchallenged.
You may prefer a circle jerk with a bunch of people agreeing with each other, but the left generally prefer ideas being challenged and debated, ie we prefer dialectics over propaganda.

No, it's because you don't listen to any other viewpoint. It's because you're militant and aggressive and lack basic manners and courtesies. It's because you respect only ideology and not people. You don't even have the brains to stay on topic with this thread, which is about asking questions and listening to people, NOT about the ideas being debated.
The left's idea of debate is smashing people over the head with bike locks and shutting down any speakers you dont agree with using violence. The greatest centers of circle-jerk currently on the planet are the universities which are soley in the grip of far-left politics and which shit out far-left drones by the bucket load every year.
And the lies you tell, the divisive identity politics, the re-writing of history to con the following generations into your narrative, the ideology itself which has led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people over the last 100 years and yet you ignore, you are the enemy of the free world and of the future progress of mankind. The sooner we are shut of you and your ilk, the better.

Oners82 It's not like Peterson's ideas weren't explored in this interview.
Antagonism has no place in an interview. Why would you even want an on-the-spot opinion? It has no genuine thought behind it.
I know why you'd want it: you'd want it in the hope they fuck up and say something which can be misconstrued as offensive or inappropriate if you cut it right.
(When I say you, I don't mean you, Oners, I mean the hypothetical person who would seek Newmanist antagonism in interviews)

Wrong. In an interview he was asked if he thinks that there was historically any discrimination against women or ethnic minorities and Peterson answered:
"I don’t think women were discriminated against, I think that’s an appalling argument."
That has got nothing to do with "blame", he is denying the existence of oppression based upon gender itself which is quite frankly an idiotic thing to say, especially coming from a highly educated person.

It was when JP still made sense, one of the last instances of him doing so. How he has changed. Once articulate, cogent and a proponent of common sense, he is different individual these days. Watching the video above there is no hint of the polemicist and apologist for the right wing fundamentalists from whom he now draws his income. His recent emotional outbursts against everything he perceives as an ideological threat to conservatism, fundamentalism even, are a far cry from the JP we see above. I am not sure what happened, but he is no longer working in academia and seems to draw an income from his on line presence and his public lectures. Can it really be true that he has literally sold his soul to the right

@@windywindmill98 Following him lately, or at least keeping up with news about him, I now wonder whether it is accurate to say that he has 'fallen' at all. I was inclined to be more defensive of him previously as I thought many of his critics were putting words in his mouth and accusing him of attitudes and sentiments he simply did not demonstrate. It seemed to me people were to ready to make assumptions about him based on preconceptions only, and not based on anything he had actually said - yet. The incompetents and prejudice of some of his early critics gave him more credibility than he deserved though. He wrote a self help book, which genuinely seemed to strike a cord with many people. However as laudable as that may be, even in that instance he wasn't exactly unique or especially insightful in his advice - not to the extent that justified him becoming the guru figure he seemed to become. He never had the gravitas to match his aspirations and intellectual pretensions, however, and while its possible the intention he received turned his pretensions into actual delusions. What is extraordinary though is his anger and lack of ability to engage in any rational discussion. He is clearly far from the philosopher he seems to believe himself to be, but he seems to also think he is a wit of Wildean proportions yet his retorts to his critics seem to be increasingly schoolyard in character. There are those who see his contortions of logic and abuse of a thesaurus as impressive, but more because of the sentiments he expresses rather than the strength of his arguments, but you get the sense that those people believe anyone who has read a book is an intellectual. Is he an actual idiot, or is he severely unwell? Dont know. He is not a sage, philosopher or a reliable authority on anything anymore - not even on the field of psychology - so divorced from reality has he become.

Quite agree. It demonstrates that a non-confrontational exchange can be, and often is, more interesting than the usual and highly predictable clang of battle where we run through the same talking points. The less we place in affirmation, the less we place in exploration - to our cost.

This was a masterclass in professional journalism, Maajid. Well done.
You clearly did your homework researching for this. And you managed to give Jordan time to clearly lay out his stances on issues, as well as asking him questions that challenged them - and all without the kind of trick questions many journalists resort to when interviewing Peterson.

Well yeah because it is all about public spectacle and networks that stir up the most drama and the most heat are the ones everybody is constantly talking about. It's a working system and the networks have no reason to want to change that. The only way out is society finally growing up and embracing the idea of different viewpoints rather than hating upon them or using them to create unnecessary conflict. That goes for most political systems as well. But society growing up? What was the definition of madness again?

@@steveg59 Or maybe O'Brien actually challenges the people whom he interviews, instead of asking a series of very light questions and pick at previous interviewers. Peterson has a lot to say which is useful, but he's not a genius and he gets things wrong often. He also strays in to conjecture and conflation of ideas in subjects he has little knowledge about. He's a quick witted run of the mill conservative, with firmly held beliefs about the importance of the family unit, stemming from his "Christian values". He is very disparaging about anyone who firmly challenges him (not to say O'Brien isn't, in fact I often find O'Brien far too smug), but I find it bemusing how wildly popular a guy who just sells self help books and repeats a lot of well trodden ground in that area. This just seemed like a book tour interview without the plugging of a book.

He has the overwhelming advantage of being on " home ground" when on the radio and hides behind hectoring callers that he does not agree with, and of course, he has the dump button to further give him the smug feeling that he craves of always getting the last word!! There are other presenters (Shelagh Fogarty and indeed Maajid ) who I disagree with politically who at least can be listened to, as they both at least give the callers respect and air time.

Professor Peterson is so appealing to young men because he inspires them to take a hard way, a path of principle that leads to character.
He inspires them to step into the Forge, to face the Crucible.

Now here’s an interviewer who takes his profession seriously. He asks questions to learn more about his guest and, in the process, takes along his audience with the same goal in mind. And that goal is to become more knowledgeable about a person or topic, maybe even spur you on to begin your own journey of enlightenment.
Too many so called interviewers are entertainers first. Their goal is not to gain wisdom and insight but to either be buddies with their ideologue soulmates or to attempt to skewer and belittle those with whom they disagree.
