This man saved my life. I was an alcoholic for 18 years. A bottle of vodka every single night. I read his book and I'm now sober for 18 months. Met the love of my life. New house. Beautiful life. Thank you Dr. Petterson.
Detox a week and 2 months in rehab... I have meaning in my life and I am responsible for it. Peterson told me that I am ok and I am worth it. I am a 40 year old grown up 👆 😁
Peterson. You were the first person to be proud of me. Ever. I met you for 10 seconds, and you knew how much it meant to me to see you. You just kept repeating 4 words. "I'm proud of you." You had tears in your eyes. You truly meant it. That moment, as well as hundreds of other small moments you influenced by your book and podcasts, has absolutely changed my life. Rex Murphy is known for being many things - acerbic, biting, witty and merciless to his detractors. But after seeing this interview, one could easily add caring, compassionate and dare I say it, gentle. The treatment given to Dr. Peterson in consideration of his condition was so moving. As disturbing as it may be read, this is the kind of pain that is beautiful. You can sense exactly how much he loves his wife with every inflection. We're all praying for you Jordan, that is, when we're not cleaning our rooms.

When Peterson breaks down it gets to me. I think he knows from his own depression what hell is. And still he has the courage to point to the light. God Bless you brother.

Lisa Harris teaching that you have the ability to fix yourself is not the same as “fix yourself bucko”. Your comment is very inappropriately atrocious and boastful, yet you think you have some moral superiority?
They broke Jordan. I feel bad about this. Being hammered by lunatics is painful and this poor man was a liberal who was hounded off the emotional cliff. He stood strong but finally, due to his wife's health problems, he is now hurting. I hope he takes a long vacation. What annoys me, though, is him saying, 'I am getting OLD...nearly SIXTY.' Um, I am seventy and fought like a fiend all my long political life. Still fighting.
This touched me. I started crying because I used to be on heroin. Now I'm building my credit and blossoming into a respectable, kind, strong, and brave young man. Thank you Mr. Peterson. UA-cam let's you pick your friends. And you know what they say....your only as good as the ones you hang around. And quite Frankly, I'm honored to consider you my friend. My boy Peterson on the verge of tears for 57 minutes while discussing heavy themes. A towering example of real strength and masculinity. A true lobster!
I was choked up through this entire interview. Dr. Peterson is an absolutely amazing human being. I love his vulnerability, honesty and openness. I am so glad that he and his wife are on the other side of recovery and they are getting better. Keep your chin up, Dr. Peterson, and stay strong. You are a wonderful man.
its controversial here but this seems to me to be a loong episode of victim Olympia, Jordon sounds like he is constantly crying about his recent past, which, lets face it is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people in the world right now and im not quite sure what the point of this discussion is about except to reinforce the idea that mr. Peterson has been through a lot recently. Although I have never read 12 Rules i am sure there is plenty of advice in there about getting over yourself and getting on with your life minus the victimhood mentality. I know this is not the right place to say it but I am being sincere here, wtf is this person getting so upset about??
@@l000tube I think he's a bit overwhelmed by all that has happened recently in his life - the good and the bad. Dr. Peterson also struggles with clinical depression. I have read 12 Rules and am familiar with his other work, and he certainly doesn't advocate a victimhood mentality. I think he's just worn down, physically and mentally. If you're new to Dr. Peterson, I would recommend checking out other interviews, and his actual work -- I don't think this interview is the best or most accurate representation of him.

Dr Petersen we hope, if I may speak for "us," that you will take the well deserved time to heal yourself and your family. So many of us have a great debt of gratitude to you. It's your turn now.

It’s not Mr Petersons intellect and mind that makes him incredible BUT his heart to speak truth to challenges all of us to be a better people!!! Thanks Jordan Peterson for your HEART.
Perfectly expressed. That intellect combined with his open heart is truly humbling to witness. Dr. Peterson is truly an incredible human with an amazing vision.
No. Not at all. For many persons Rex Murphy is a very racist bigot. He hates Quebeckers just like Don Cherry. Shame on them. Dr Peterson is a wiser man and he is not racist. He has dignity. Not Murphy and Cherry. They hate very much people who are not like them.

I've been noticing that Peterson has been caring a lot of emotional pain in his voice lately. Sounds like he's on the constant edge of tears, when not in actual tears. Whether it be caused by the immense suffering from his wife's health condition, the massive passion he takes in his work, or perhaps even a bit of both, God save his soul. I love Dr. Peterson’s everything ! I lost my son a year ago to suicide at 18 years old . It has destroyed all of us . I never thought I could recover . I still feel the pain like it happened minutes ago . When I discovered Dr Peterson it filled me with hope and purpose outside of how my relationship has grown in the Lord . I feel my beautiful son was cheated in that I feel if he would have watched these lectures and small videos we could have connected on a different plane . Why now did I see this ? He needed this as much as I do . That kills me but his words are so sincere and heartfelt I feel he is in my mind and part of my thoughts . It’s a true pleasure to have found you :) you are saving so many and my heart aches for you and cries with you as I can feel the deep pain and fear for the ones you love . Dear Mr Peterson You bring tears to my eyes, hearing both how the sickness in your near family hurts you and the burden you put on yourself, from the work you do for us. Please take your time. We feel for and with you.
Just gotta say.... No-Homo, but I love Dr. Peterson. As a mentor to myself and countless other men (and women, I must fair) I watched this with barely concealed tears. This man has suffered so much, selflessly, emotionally and physically. Why? 'Cos he stood up for us. All of us, who care about honest education and respectful discourse, regardless of our own beliefs. The right to be heard, and the respect to listen; two concepts that used to go hand in hand, are being disregarded in place of a group-think, conform or be destroyed mentality based on zero logic, and ignorant of basic biology!
We are watching two good men here! As Mr Peterson struggles, and observing Mr Murphy's body language. You can observe Mr Murphy wanting to reach out and lend his strength and composure to Mr Peterson. A good man must be prepared to give of himself for the betterment of others! Gentlemen both!!
Dr. Peterson. how wonderful to see you again. We have missed you so much. Your fragility right now is completely understandable. I don't know how you've manged to stay sane with everything that's happened. Thank you for everything you have done. Thank you for helping my family. Dr Peterson is definitely one of the brightest minds and intellectual thinkers of our time. He is an inspiration and a beacon of hope for truth seekers. I understand his sadness and I pray for him and his wife. I hope to one day see him smiling at the thought of all the people he has touched instead of frowning. See, he is a messenger not a martyr, it is not his burden to bear.
This is a great interview. Considering at the time he’s trying to get off benzos and his wife is in a terrible position, he is still trying to help people.
This interview is breaking my heart... You feel so much. I don’t know how anyone with heart and common sense can not be affected by the masses against you. Please take care of yourself. You’re a true blessing to us all.
So refreshing to see an interviewer not trying to hound Dr. Peterson into a adversarial "discussion". Respect for Rex increases even higher. A great video and discussion to watch. Thank you.
It's interesting that Rex Murphy used to host of a radio show (still ongoing, I think, with a different host) called _Cross Country Canada_ where he would cover some controversial topic, usually with a guest, and then open the phone lines to basically anyone who wanted to call in. Rex always gave each person a chance to say their piece, and was always tolerant and respectful of each caller, even if he clearly disagreed. I guess I'm saying that he's had a lot of practice participating in and hosting non-adversarial discussion, even though he himself can be very opinionated in other formats, such as opinion articles or monologues/rants. I don't agree with everything Rex says, but I do highly respect his ability to host civil discussions and interviews.
...the pressures of this system has taken its toll and though weary in eyes i still see the flame of truth and the mark of a man steady the course of conquering the world. Thank you Sirs for an excellent discourse.
This man is my favourite person outside of my family members; honest, unbelievably intelligent, brave and compassionate. A man to be cherished and appreciated whilst he is still among us. I thought Christopher Hitchens and Douglas Murray were impressive individuals, but Jordan is another level. What an excellent interview; emotional stuff!
Folks have a genuine warm affection for Mr. Jordan Peterson, what makes this intelligent human being so remarkable is his ability to make a difference for the better in the world despite his deep sadness whilst facing the family's challenges. He not only talks the talk but does what he advises others to do. His character and integrity are very much respected. Irs good to see him back. Thank you, Mr. Jordan Peterson, for everything you are, and everything you do.
I don't have anything profound to say, but from the bottom of my heart.... Thank you Dr Jordan Peterson. You have made my life more tolerable for me to endure. You are truly a great man.

And the impact may be a mundane event.
This is the second time I've watched this, and it was just as heartbreaking as the first time. It's a real illustration of how this world can drag down some of the greatest people of this world. Jordan Peterson wanted the best for so many people and I can't find anything to disbelieve that. The good thing is he has already helped so many of us, and it's our job to carry the flag for him. He’s still trying to grasp all the major changes in his life, such as his newfound popularity as well as his wife’s health. Major shifts occurring while he is approaching his 60’s. Rex with the absolutely brilliantly statement at 43:11: "identity politics makes the individual the simple avatar of the collective-- and everything that attaches to him is always extrinsic and not essential." How precisely this sums up the mental processes involved in this brand of thinking is awe inspiring.
@@ntl9974 all of his properties (opinions, personality traits, status) are a simple result of institutional biases manipulating him. Even those "properties" (race, gender, class, etc.) are merely invented by institutions for the express purpose of manipulation. Dr. Peterson makes so many people's lives better, at the cost of all this stress he has to bear. He reminds me of a character from his biblical series...

Lots of prayer that you and your family get well. Take your time.
Get well dear Dr. Peterson, we need the good doctor back, BUT in good shape. Take all the time you need. We are with you and we will be there when you come back. Greetings from Madrid, Spain.
I stumbled across Peterson shortly before he blew up. Listened to a lot of his posted class lectures because I am curious that way. Now, I dip in and out of his interviews because he is such a powerful thinker, a little goes a long way. And listening to him always changes me. So I have to weigh how much I want to risk being changed in some fundamental way before I click. But I figured this would be a safe summary, a series of highlights, a montage of the good times. But no, you did it again Peterson. There you go offering up a another slice of reality that changes my fundamental orientation to it.
This makes me cry. I cry everyday I was finally turning my life around after lots of struggle and being looked down on for mental health and alcoholism. I had to dig inside myself to push anything I had left and now the world has shut down when I have finally seen a light, a purpose. It breaks my heart to see our world continue to support such broken systems.

This reminds me of a powerful memory of my dad. He is a rediculously level-headed guy. He takes everything in stride (lay-offs, bad economy, my mom's cancer, everything) and I swear that Stoicism was invented by people like him. I was 22 the first time I saw my dad cry (or become significantly emotional about anything) when we were cleaning out his parents' house after they passed. It was clear the task of picking through the house he grew up in wasnt easy for him. At one point he picked up a letter (no idea what it's about; I didnt dare read it) written to his parents when he was a child and he lost it. It killed something in me to see that and I felt gutted for the rest of the week. its controversial here but this seems to me to be a loong episode of victim Olympia, Jordon sounds like he is constantly crying about his recent past, which, lets face it is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people in the world right now and im not quite sure what the point of this discussion is about except to reinforce the idea that mr. Peterson has been through a lot recently. Although I have never read 12 Rules i am sure there is plenty of advice in there about getting over yourself and getting on with your life minus the victimhood mentality. I know this is not the right place to say it but I am being sincere here, wtf is this person getting so upset about??

It's interesting that Rex Murphy used to host of a radio show (still ongoing, I think, with a different host) called _Cross Country Canada_ where he would cover some controversial topic, usually with a guest, and then open the phone lines to basically anyone who wanted to call in. Rex always gave each person a chance to say their piece, and was always tolerant and respectful of each caller, even if he clearly disagreed. That's what smart people do....follow positive mentors.
L3eh123 that’s the ticket. Jesus told his disciples “if you love me, keep my commandments.” I’m not saying Peterson is like Jesus. Just pointing out that the highest form of love and devotion is obedience.
Exactly!
That's just straight facts. Damnit. Gotta get my damn act together for God's sake
My heart goes out to Jordan. He is still very fragile, and yet super strong at the same time. He has helped so many, including myself, and now he needs our love and support in his suffering. God bless you, Jordan. I wish you and your family good health and peace of mind.
Rex with the absolutely brilliantly statement at 43:11:
"identity politics makes the individual the simple avatar of the collective-- and everything that attaches to him is always extrinsic and not essential."
How precisely this sums up the mental processes involved in this brand of thinking is awe inspiring.
What do you mean by extrinsic and essential, here?
@@ntl9974 all of his properties (opinions, personality traits, status) are a simple result of institutional biases manipulating him. Even those "properties" (race, gender, class, etc.) are merely invented by institutions for the express purpose of manipulation. As a result of this line of thinking, identity politics asserts that everything is extrinsic and malleable, a truly communist perspective.
Dr. Peterson makes so many people's lives better, at the cost of all this stress he has to bear.
He reminds me of a character from his biblical series...
@Memento Mori no you
@Memento Mori no you haha :)
@Memento Mori no, youuuuu
@Memento Mori I saw you crying when your little daughter was in excruciating pain from an illness that was rare and not understood. I saw you crying when you're wife became terminally sick. I saw you crying when made all your personal relationships on the upswing. I saw you cry when your dad finally gave you recognition after you wanted to transition.....
@Memento Mori You reaction just makes me laugh... I wish you some grace mister manly man! I pity you way more for believing in what you claim, then I pity mr. Peterson for his tears.... and the sad thing is that I can't even mansplain to you why I pity you more :P. Besides... I don't feel pity for a man that cries for the pain of others, I can only greatly admire that!
You seem so fragile in this interview. It breaks my heart. I am willing you strength my friend.
This is around the time his wife was diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully she might be doing better, according to his daughter.
@@steven5054 I Am Michael. You Are The Fake Michael. I've Been Here For 13 Years Keeping Tabs. Stay Alert.
Michael-6 his wife was diagnosed with cancer during the timing of this interview. Your cold heart has obviously never experienced true hardship. You are a useless and miserable human being. Clean your damn room.
Much Love Dr. Peterson.
Damnit, hearing him break and tear up breaks my heart. I know the pain knowing your wife is sick, my wife had Cancer for 5 years and she passed away and to have that person get sick, can break a person from the pressure. He helps people and wants to help so many people and takes the time to talk to people while he is going through so much himself. Just amazing, lots of strength and the interview is great. Lots of prayer that you and your family get well. Take your time.
Get well dear Dr. Peterson, we need the good doctor back, BUT in good shape. Take all the time you need. We are with you and we will be there when you come back. Greetings from Madrid, Spain.
JBP!! You’ve been missed. Hope you’re doing better and we look forward to more of your meaning making.
Thanks for changing my life for the better 🙏 🦞
I stumbled across Peterson shortly before he blew up. Listened to a lot of his posted class lectures because I am curious that way. Now, I dip in and out of his interviews because he is such a powerful thinker, a little goes a long way. And listening to him always changes me. So I have to weigh how much I want to risk being changed in some fundamental way before I click. But I figured this would be a safe summary, a series of highlights, a montage of the good times. But no, you did it again Peterson. There you go offering up a another slice of reality that changes my fundamental orientation to it.
ZW, You put my thoughts into words. Even a casual listen can spin you around.. I love Dr. Peterson. He is the father, wise brother we all want.
The reason of Dr Peterson's popularity is that people are longing for normality. After watching CNN for 10 min., they like to have a very smart man to tell them they're not the ones who are insane.
That statement itself was brilliant... just sayin'.
What kind of idiot thinks watching 10 seconds of CNN is worthwhile? Or ANY mainstream media.
I never want a discussion with Jordan Peterson to end.
Got a think for that depressed screechy blow hard type eh?
@@FathomlessJoy At least they have a think [sic] for cogent, relevant commentary not delivered from around a corner.
@@groovinhooves Yuppers, and if the dumb old angry boomer fool don't come clean and get off drugs, he certainly delivered up to the coroner [sick]
@@FathomlessJoy Ah yeah, I see you came here to express actually considered opinions of your own formulation and openly debate them vs sharing your own individual, unique flair for banality. Read: only came here to take a cowardly, hat-spoken swipe at Dr. Peterson via a third party. Yeah, you're fit to lead reasoned, for-grown-ups discussion. Yuppers. Now I have one more definite do-not-ever-vote-for on my growing list of folks both Left and Right of intelligent.
See, Nietzsche, "Beyond Good and Evil," ch.2§31 - he's talking to you - and to me, still - the difference is I know and accept this, whereas you are clearly a wilful ignoramus. Wittgenstein (I think I remember right), said, "whereof one does not know, thereof one should not speak." I would suggest that you don't even know yourself well enough, as evidenced by how your express clearly what are your own considered views, not conditioned responses. Yuppers...
END OF LINE, by the way. Enjoy the rest of your fruitless, Postmodernism-inculcated, hate-filled life. Buh-byeeeeeee.
@@groovinhooves Not sure what even say. But Mr. Peterson hopefully get right in mind. Will have tough journey but it is worth is, coming from someone not have drink or drug is many year.
Jordan Peterson, I’m getting my life together because of you. Thank you 🙏
What a blessing Dr Peterson is to a blind world in chaos. The voice of sanity amongst the madness of this world spinning out of control. Opening everyone's eyes. Heaven sent and being worked to the bone, bless him. Thanks for all your contribtions and Good Health to you and your family, bless you.xxxx
Love this man’s thinking it’s a pleasure just listening to him talk
This progressive lefty loves you Dr. Peterson, thank you for standing up for common sense!
@tee dot I think you're a bit triggered. Not everyone on the left blindly follows everything some College or University Student makes up during gender studies. You're not doing anyone, including yourself, a service by believing that anyone left of you is "psychopathic". That's stupid, and outrageously so.
@OWJAHA You're just wrong completely, but that's your right. I'm not here to teach you what a real progressive is, I'm here to praise Dr. Peterson and thank him for the impact he has had on my life and so many other lives, and political discourse in the world in general.
I will say that you shouldn't generalize with groups and make them into a monolith, that serves no one and that's something Jordan Peterson really shed light on with me. The whole reason I have his book and know who he is, is because of just what you're doing there. Certain people tried to vilify him based on their misunderstanding of him. Get out of your echo chamber; that's how I got here.
Thank you, from a philosophical conservative, for chiming in. I've always thought Dr. Peterson a good bridge between the sensibilities of the left and the right, so welcome and thank you for not being a cookie cutter stereotype
@@jeffreypressey8471 Thank you! I think Dr. Peterson is like a foothold in common sense that both sides can kind of hold on to and agree with. It's a divide that needs to be bridged everywhere on earth.
Another thing I learned from Dr. Peterson, Conservative values are all GOOD values! We just get lost in the weeds of personality and methods of communication so often. Political correctness really stands in the way of progress too much. Another thing he made me realize. :)
Arthur Amson Now if only so called progressives politicians would follow your lead. You may not agree with some of their more outlandish policies but if you vote for them they will take it as a mandate to implement their most outlandish policies.
Best interviewer of Peterson yet, in my humble opinion.
Yes I think you are right. Rex did not put a foot wrong. It was an elegant dance in a storm.
Congratulations to Rex Murphy for the excellent interview. My best wishes for support and good health to Dr. Peterson, your voice has become a beacon in an increasingly dark world. We all need you and your wise kind words!
Ode to JP

Great interview by two great men. Canada is richer with their presence.
Seeing my dad and Dr. Peterson (both are dear, wise, and powerful influences in my life) hurt like this is the emotional equivalent of an earthquake. The foundation(s) I've relied on to be solid and support what I'm building lurch violently and there's nothing I can do about it
@@sirenwatcher Well said! Subtle but also firm. I am glad to see you, people, expressing such elaborate feelings and thoughts. It takes a lot of strength to show your weaknesses. This is a part of becoming a MAN (/ or a HUMAN, spiritually). Respect to both of you!
Best wishes to everyone going through a tough time in life. Just take it day by day. Eventually you'll be strong enough to carry the burden.
That's really nice to hear, thanks for your kind words.
@@manubishe I have come to a realization we are in it with ourselves and God alone. Build the mental strength to bear the evils of the world. Make the moral choice.
Most of us have no idea about the burden this man is carrying.
TubeFire traveling the world and speaking to thousands of people? None of us can even imagine such reality.
Gustavo Rodriguez... he's grieving his wife's cancer diagnosis. Anyone who has been in that situation understands quite well what mr peterson is feeling.
@John Jourdan says the triggered male feminists trans activist... who exactly has the daddy issues?
John Jourdan hey moron! There’s this thing ugh called addiction he’s dealing with and it kinda affects a person in every way possible obviously he’s not stable, but you know it all!
@John Jourdan While I'm not a millionaire crying every chance...., I've no problem telling you to 'man up',. little Johnnie.
This was a pretty emotional interview. Just a head's up - there's people praying for you and your wife. Keep fighting the good fight, JP!
