  • An open conversation with Rex Murphy about the modern state of education, politics, identity, and new media. Recorded in early September. For those international viewers, unfamiliar with Canadian media, it will be useful for you to know that Rex Murphy is one of Canada's premier journalists: tough, truthful, politically correct, and possessed of a singular style and character. It was both an honor and a pleasure to meet him. I highly recommend his channel. Podcast available at bit.ly/RexJordan

Peterson. You were the first person to be proud of me. Ever.
I met you for 10 seconds, and you knew how much it meant to me to see you. You just kept repeating 4 words. "I'm proud of you."
You had tears in your eyes. You truly meant it. That moment, as well as hundreds of other small moments you influenced by your book and podcasts, has absolutely changed my life.
I am truly still alive because at the height of my nihilism and self loathing, you had honest words of encouragement that I never experienced before.
Thank you Peterson. I'll never stop telling this story.

its controversial here but this seems to me to be a loong episode of victim Olympia, Jordon sounds like he is constantly crying about his recent past, which, lets face it is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people in the world right now and im not quite sure what the point of this discussion is about except to reinforce the idea that mr. Peterson has been through a lot recently. Although I have never read 12 Rules i am sure there is plenty of advice in there about getting over yourself and getting on with your life minus the victimhood mentality. I know this is not the right place to say it but I am being sincere here, wtf is this person getting so upset about??

@@l000tube I think he's a bit overwhelmed by all that has happened recently in his life - the good and the bad. Dr. Peterson also struggles with clinical depression. I have read 12 Rules and am familiar with his other work, and he certainly doesn't advocate a victimhood mentality. I think he's just worn down, physically and mentally. If you're new to Dr. Peterson, I would recommend checking out other interviews, and his actual work -- I don't think this interview is the best or most accurate representation of him.

He takes everything in stride (lay-offs, bad economy, my mom's cancer, everything) and I swear that Stoicism was invented by people like him. I was 22 the first time I saw my dad cry (or become significantly emotional about anything) when we were cleaning out his parents' house after they passed. It was clear the task of picking through the house he grew up in wasnt easy for him. At one point he picked up a letter (no idea what it's about; I didnt dare read it) written to his parents when he was a child and he lost it. It killed something in me to see that and I felt gutted for the rest of the week. Seeing my dad and Dr. Peterson (both are dear, wise, and powerful influences in my life) hurt like this is the emotional equivalent of an earthquake. Seriously, are you friends of the family? That's the only way you'd possibly be given the inside scoop as to whether he's an addict lol. Jordan suffers from extreme anxiety and has described situations that are obviously panic attacks. He has legit reason to be prescribed benzos of one type or another to take when he feels the onset of a crippling and in many cases dangerous (if he needs to drive somewhere, passing out from a panic attack is a high possibility). He was having side effects from the particular type of benzo he was on and sought help as he found that he couldn't simply stop by himself as the withdrawal period from benzos if super long and can last 7 days (that's not including the months of post acute withdrawal that's in ways worse). In my job I called a person and left a message. She saved that message and would play it during her hard times. She said it was the only time she had heard her name said with kindness. The tone of my words brought her comfort. Mind u this was the usual type of business message. The message was only at the most 1 mi. long. So here u r, u never know when u will impact a life. It is the weirdest thing, but I imagine it is an extension of his positive influence, but never in my life, or on any other content on UA-cam or other social media, have I seen more respectful and positive and encouraging and genuinely emotional comments than on pretty much any video about Jordan Peterson.

I get emotional listening to Dr. Peterson often but this interview was painful in the suffering apparent for a man who I hold in the deepest affection and respect. Someone commented to suggest a Nobel peace prize and even that would be too little a recognition of his wisdom and contribution to Western society.

I love Dr. Peterson’s everything ! I lost my son a year ago to suicide at 18 years old . It has destroyed all of us . I never thought I could recover . I still feel the pain like it happened minutes ago . When I discovered Dr Peterson it filled me with hope and purpose outside of how my relationship has grown in the Lord .
I feel my beautiful son was cheated in that I feel if he would have watched these lectures and small videos we could have connected on a different plane . Why now did I see this ?
He needed this as much as I do . That kills me but his words are so sincere and heartfelt I feel he is in my mind and part of my thoughts . It’s a true pleasure to have found you :) you are saving so many and my heart aches for you and cries with you as I can feel the deep pain and fear for the ones you love . It’s so beautiful in a human way
