Peterson. You were the first person to be proud of me. Ever.
I met you for 10 seconds, and you knew how much it meant to me to see you. You just kept repeating 4 words. "I'm proud of you."
You had tears in your eyes. You truly meant it. That moment, as well as hundreds of other small moments you influenced by your book and podcasts, has absolutely changed my life.
I am truly still alive because at the height of my nihilism and self loathing, you had honest words of encouragement that I never experienced before.
Thank you Peterson. I'll never stop telling this story.

its controversial here but this seems to me to be a loong episode of victim Olympia, Jordon sounds like he is constantly crying about his recent past, which, lets face it is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people in the world right now and im not quite sure what the point of this discussion is about except to reinforce the idea that mr. Peterson has been through a lot recently. Although I have never read 12 Rules i am sure there is plenty of advice in there about getting over yourself and getting on with your life minus the victimhood mentality. I know this is not the right place to say it but I am being sincere here, wtf is this person getting so upset about??

@@l000tube I think he's a bit overwhelmed by all that has happened recently in his life - the good and the bad. Dr. Peterson also struggles with clinical depression. I have read 12 Rules and am familiar with his other work, and he certainly doesn't advocate a victimhood mentality. I think he's just worn down, physically and mentally. I've been noticing that Peterson has been caring a lot of emotional pain in his voice lately. Sounds like he's on the constant edge of tears, when not in actual tears.
Whether it be caused by the immense suffering from his wife's health condition, the massive passion he takes in his work, or perhaps even a bit of both, God save his soul. With the amount of terrible I see in the in the public world today, it is so reassuring that there are beacons of light to look to.

It's interesting that Rex Murphy used to host of a radio show (still ongoing, I think, with a different host) called _Cross Country Canada_ where he would cover some controversial topic, usually with a guest, and then open the phone lines to basically anyone who wanted to call in. Rex always gave each person a chance to say their piece, and was always tolerant and respectful of each caller, even if he clearly disagreed. I guess I'm saying that he's had a lot of practice participating in and hosting non-adversarial discussion, even though he himself can be very opinionated in other formats, such as opinion articles or monologues/rants. I don't agree with everything Rex says, but I do highly respect his ability to host civil discussions and interviews.

I stumbled across Peterson shortly before he blew up. Listened to a lot of his posted class lectures because I am curious that way. Now, I dip in and out of his interviews because he is such a powerful thinker, a little goes a long way. And listening to him always changes me. So I have to weigh how much I want to risk being changed in some fundamental way before I click. But I figured this would be a safe summary, a series of highlights, a montage of the good times. This reminds me of a powerful memory of my dad. He is a rediculously level-headed guy. He takes everything in stride (lay-offs, bad economy, my mom's cancer, everything) and I swear that Stoicism was invented by people like him. I was 22 the first time I saw my dad cry (or become significantly emotional about anything) when we were cleaning out his parents' house after they passed. It was clear the task of picking through the house he grew up in wasnt easy for him. At one point he picked up a letter (no idea what it's about; I didnt dare read it) written to his parents when he was a child and he lost it. It killed something in me to see that and I felt gutted for the rest of the week. Seeing my dad and Dr. Peterson (both are dear, wise, and powerful influences in my life) hurt like this is the emotional equivalent of an earthquake.
