I think I just understood something about Batman I didn't get before. When Batman says he's "busy" when you're asking for his help with a massive issue that seems way more important than whatever serial killer he's dealing with this week, it's because he has complete faith you're going to deal with that without him while he's where he's needed most, even if you aren't that confident in yourself. Batman's massive confidence extends to anyone he respects as an equal or at least respectable colleague, so long as they're staying in their lane.
In other words, Batman saying “he’s busy” is less him saying “do it yourself”, and more him saying “bro, you’ve got this” unless he was outright saying “no, do that on your own. I don’t agree with it”
I mean that’s pretty fire and would add so much more to his character, but I think you thinkin to deep into it bro 😂😂😂

...So we're all in agreement that Nightwing's still leading the Outsiders offscreen in the DCAU even if it didn't make it into print, right? Like, it makes total sense for the character and there's nothing to contradict it so why *not* make it canon?

I mean with the inclusion of ARGUS, the others green lanterns and more to the DCAU in JL vs Fatal Five. I think that the expansion of the universe makes total sense.
In fact besides the titans I believe that sorf of birds of pray, Gotham city sirens, justice league dark, justice league of America exist in this universe. Just that like the titans we never see them.
The Phantasm and Blight are some of the coolest DCAU characters design-wise

I always liked the idea that Lois was Bruce's best friend. They only saw each other occasionally for a few minutes at a time. But she knew who he was, who he really was and treated him like one of the army guys she grew up around. But she wasn't romantically interested in him, because she would never be as important as his crusade.

Personally, I would like that. Lois was a very enjoyable character in the DCAU but I feel like they didn't utilize Lois's presence as well as I'd have liked. She fell by the wayside after STAS and I was kind of dying to know if or when Lois would have ended up with Clark.
This would have been a fun dynamic if anything. Maybe not best of friends but definitely a confidant.
They both have to deal with Clark’s/Superman’s shit on an occasion so they understand keeping their favorite Boy Scout in check.

No wonder Batman was so dismissive and would only say "he's busy" to Hawkgirl. His whole life was changing forever
The Bat Embargo’s reasoning was dumb enough when concerning TV and animation... it gets dumber when concerning comic tie ins. They sure weren’t planning to cancel the main Batman comics due to the possibility of readers getting confused that there were multiple Batman comics on the shelves...
Not to mention around the same time they made The Batman, which in its final seasons even has its own Justice League! How would that not be confusing to kids watching TV back then?
I know that Dan Slott said that Red Hood would be Andrea's mother... but I still feel like thematically it would be so much more exciting were it Andrea's father since he was shown to be murdered in Phantasm... BUT we never actually see the body just Andrea's horrified scream and she recounts the information that he was killed. If he were left nearly dead or brain-damaged and Andrea forged an alliance with Ra's to use a Lazarus pit to revive him I feel like it would make more sense than having Andi's mother whose grave she was talking to earnestly (I feel like her doing it and genuinely forming the bond with Bruce was thematically important). His death being confirmed only by Andi, who was covering it up pretending he was alive, makes him faking his death or never having died seem like a twist that would have felt in line with the Phantasm movie.

There were also theories that Red Hood may also either Phantasm s father Carl Beaumont that either survived somehow his murder of hands of Joker or somehow be also resurrected and just like his wife and daughter seek revenge for Joker and Valestra Mob for trying to assassinate him or indeed Blight s father Warren Powers .
Yep! Carl Beaumont somehow surviving and becoming the Red Hood had always been my guess. Love Slott's real reveal for it, though

The Batman X Barbara Gordon story was always weird as fuck and creepy to me. He's known her since she was a child, and is friends with her father. She was also the girlfriend of his adopted son for fucks sake. Plus, I mean how many years older than her is he? The relationship feel very wrong, disgusting, in poor taste, and borderline pedophilic. It's the main reason I could never fully like Batman Beyond or The Return of the Joker movie.

in my fanfiction universe, Teen Titans (not Teen Titans Go) is part of the DCAU.
When Bruce first takes Dick in, the boy is so sad and angry, wishing he could have saved his parents. Bruce lets him become Robin, but quickly sees the kid is not at the same place he was at when he was first starting out (merging some Jason Todd elements). Thus, Bruce sent very serious, almost obsessively compulsive Dick to Jump City. There, Dick started the Teen Titans, explaining why in the show he was so serious and focused; he wanted to be just like Batman and avenge his parents' murder. By the end of Teen Titans series, Dick is noticeably lighter-hearted and more of a kid, which explains the goofy joking Robin in BatmanTAS. You see the serious version pop up in the episode which Dick can almost capitalize on avenging his parents' death.
The only thing we need to know now was how that final story would've played out. I think I recall Red Hood was going to "kill" Phantasm in a fight, but she would've faked her death and left town for good (again).
Any idea where you heard/read that?
@@dcauwatchtower Now that I think about it, I think I asked Slott at a con. It was years ago so I'm not positive, but he for sure said Andrea and Bruce would not end up together and it'd sync up with 'Epilogue.' The scene at the start of #14 was supposed to directly spell it out. You should ask him to confirm the real ending!

Ty Templeton, at the very least, seems to have mostly moved on. With his recent DCAU comics like the “Batman and Harley Quinn” tie-ins and the new “The Adventures Continue,” he’s outright said a few times he feels like those wind up outranking BAv2 in terms of canonicity. So it may not be very important to him to tell the rest of those stories. But I do hope we get SOMETHING someday.

Dan Slott's "Marvel Method" episode on Disney+ makes me wonder if he'd have become a writing icon if he had stayed at DC considering he wrote top-tier storylines in the Batman Adventures Vol. 2; rather than how apparently at Marvel he just gives a vague outline of events to the artists then focuses on tweeting without doing much actual writing while everyone picks up his slack (and even then at Marvel he's more infamous than well liked by readers, especially his Spidey stuff, wooof!). I mean he was SO good at Batman Adventures. I bought all the single issues when I was in high school and read them like it was an addiction because the stories were just that damn good and it was just 17 issues.
I am still really disappointed we got the really over-all underwhelming "Adventure Continues" retcon-palooza thing (Jason Todd in the DCAU, really? Not a great idea, and it wasn't executed well) instead of having Batman Adventures FINALLY getting it's overdue continuation. I legitimately think the continuation run at times handled continuing storylines even better than the animated series (Not the fault of the BTAS series writers, but it aired at a time where syndication was emphasized making it so any kid could jump in to any non-two part episode and not feel completely lost, rather than an unfolding narrative).

Cool video, but I'm sorry I have to say this, but no, the Phantasm is not part of mainstream DC continuity when this current Batman/Catwoman series is being published by DC Black Label, and all DC Black Label titles are existing outside of mainstream DC continuity, so how does that work out?
Unless they're testing the waters first to see what the reception will be for that character in proper comic book form, then they'll introduce her proper, but as of yet, if it's Black Label material then how could that count as a DC mainstream continuity inclusion in the first place? No, I don't get it, because it's not official till it's actually official.
However, if they were to make an ongoing Phantasm title in the future and it had really good plot and art, then I'm game, if it ever becomes a reality.

Another big What If is if you could add in anime characters or locations to the Justice League who or what would you add? For me it would be Tenchi, for the cosmic lore and aliens. Issei from DXD for the mythology world. And Academy City from A Certain Magical Index as a way to add in any Battle High School anime I want.
Mine would be Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Imagine the likes of Batman combatting a so-called gunslinging "clock queen" in the form of the devilish Homura Akemi.

Anything that doesn’t “actually” happen is pretty much up to your own personal headcanon. This may have been the creators’ intent, but they also intended to essentially rewrite the “Return of the Joker” flashback. So it’s up to you.
Although, Mattie pointed out in a response to a different comment, that since the Red Hood DID show up, and the creators of the comic intended for that to be her eventual backstory, it might as well be canon.

A bit weak compared to The Brave and the Bold in my opinion, but overall quite an underrated anime-esque title. Would even say its fight scenes have aged well compared to B: TAS' grapples and swing-kicks.

It might somewhat good retcon , twist and reveal that Joker before being killed by Tim Drake got Harley pregnant with Lucy and Batman got both Talia and Catwoman pregnant too with Damian and Helena before he and Selina got old and Talia before being possessed by her dying father Ras in Near Apocalypse of 2009 .
