While in Kentucky helping a fuel altered I ran across this crazy ass jet car. Now the way it’s designed, I’m not so sure it’s real functional. Let’s check it out!
We use naca ducts on our jet dragsters to keep that front end down. But a cold night will still hit the chutes hard and lift the front wheels a few inches
I've got over 200 hours in the body on that car. Lol. Should've took a closer look at the door gaps, and body lines. Was wrecked when I took it on. Couldn't have asked for a better customer either. World class guys. Nice to see it getting the attention it deserves b
Like the paint job, looks pretty cool!!! Oh hell one scary ride because design flaws!!! Imagine taking flight if front end wheelied and jet engine unable to shutdown!!!
Now THAT is a hot seat for ya! Rob, me thinks you should get involved in this, hmmmm? This specific car I mean, your design experience will surely aid these guys, and also you are tickled by this beast, admit it 😜
Bitchin!!. Thanks Champ!. He didn't wad it up to bad,,,so he was able to use those coveted doors it looked like. Put some Kentucky Appalachian Firewater in the trunk for extra afterburner help, The 41 would earn those stripes then. Official Outlaw Willy's Boozerunner with a Bigger block. Yeah,,ditch the chutes and just drive it into a arresting net,,or nets,,or drive it into the chutes. I remember when Roger Gustin's Lava Hand Soap jet car took flight back in the day. No chutes involved on that accident if I remember. I think it caught air or a big gust after he rolled the throttle back after the stripe. Once it left the asphalt in a blowover ,,, it started torque rolling midair due to the big Pratt and Whitney? spooling down. Spiral rolled that thing down at the shutdown,,AND HE WALKED AWAY!!. RIP Roger Gustin(passed in 2015). He made it to Woodburn,, I remember seeing the lava car run there in the 80's. Dammit!!,,,Father Time is a heartless bitch in a Tutu!!.
Years ago a Rocky mountain race way in utah there was a tank jet car one of the coolest ones I've seen. Then there was a couple of cool jet cars in Fallon Navada that put on a awesome show
Several of the jet funny cars/jet altered style cars I have seen over the years pretty much have very similar style cages myself I not sure there is enough money in the world to strap me in one of those cars with that JP5 burning hair dryer next to me. Just think the engines they use in those things are normally red lined from being installed in an aircraft again
What happened here was that the right side chute nwver opened and it pulled the car into the wall due to only one skde being slowed down. Car has no suspension whatsoever. Like a gokart almoat
Always seemed chute mounting was a problem on jets. Mounted above the engine they tend to lift the front end in the lights and low they lift the rear. Needs a mount right in the middle of the fire! 😂
They typically are. They don't produce any torque to lift the front end like on a driveshaft driven car, which is why you don't see them with functional wings and spoilers. The jet engine is angled ever so slightly downward to give it that downforce. I think it's only 1-2 degrees.
Rob throwing shade =) Hey man, my 5 year old loves those cars, they make fire and are loud, he doesn't care how far down the track they make it, or even really how fast. heh.
Those high revving turbines scare the sh#t out of me. I know the casing is supposed to contain the blades etc if it lets go, but as Rob says, "you're right next to that motor". I was told by someone who works on these turbines that the "burner pops" etc put huge twisting loads through the shafts of the motor. I just wonder how much inspection they get, and if that use is taken into account when "lifeing" the parts.
If I am remembering correctly from when Cleetus had that hair brained idea of an ElCo with a LS engine to do a long John Force style burnout and a jet engine to blast himself down the track the guy he was buying the GE engine from and was providing him some technical advice about jet cars said that the engines they used (again if I am remembering correctly) are all engines that have been redlined from being installed in aircraft again. I also talked with a couple of guys who use jet engines for tractor pulling and those engines all were engines that were redlined from being installed in an aircraft again. The guys tractor pulling with them also ran the engine on JP5 and used kerosene they had run through a filter for the flame ball show and said that sometimes if forever what reason they run short on Jet Fuel that they mix kerosene and jet fuel. As for what inspection they do on the engines that’s a good question both of the guys who I talked to with the pulling tractors had been aircraft mechanics in the military so one supposes they have a clue what’s going on but they definitely are not working on a very large budget so there is that too and of course the amount of dirt and FOD they eat on a pull always has me scratching my head on how good that can be for one of those engines.
I wouldn’t think burner pops would add any additional load to the shaft. The burner is spraying fuel into the exhaust and lighting it. You often hear RPM drops when they light the afterburner at close to idle, likely because of a higher demand on the engine driven fuel pump and the lower flow into the burner cans as the overall fuel flow would rapidly increase from the afterburner being lit. I would guess there is no motive flow to keep the head pressure up on the engine driven pump as there is when installed in an aircraft but I could be wrong about that one and probably am.

That's one helluva transmission tunnel 😳
that's one of the cooler jet cars I've ever seen 😊🤘🏻

Lots of crazy things to be seen in Kentucky!

It's pretty obvious you just witnessed the extent of Robs interest
You'll have to explain what the SR-71 was to the youngins Rob
🤣🤣

Interesting ! Thank you.
looks so good

In the UK there's a 1959 VW single cab pickup with a jet engine strapped to the bed. Look for Oklahoma Willy on here and you'll find a video or two!
And if you watch jet Cara under slowmo, the chutes pull them completely off the ground
Dude so cool thank you
Nice thanks for the video
you need to see the Jet Kenworth
Keep these killer vids coming!
There is a 37 chevy one of these hybrid jets for sale here in jax FL
The chute on one side didn't open snatched the car sideways into the wall.
That's a damn coffin!
I bet you can't get out of that cage with any speed.

Awesome car,who did the paintwork??
Rather some power to the wheels then getting pushed.. nice ride though
Great looking car. Thanks for sharing

I thought maybe the jet engine was supposed to be angled to push the front end down, but in all reality I don't have a clue

😃 LOL! "Big whirly thing in the middle." 😆 That thing is seriously sick! 😄
That's a technical term, you know.
@@Nareimooncatt 😄 Oh, absolutely!
Power is growing, down force isn't. At least it isn't strapped to the top of the car I guess.
The doors are there so you can bail out when it catches fire.

Thanks Rob love your vids. God I hate jet cars lol.

Car has zero suspension whatsoever. It's like a go cart chassis in a sense.
With 10000 ho, who need aerodynamics.
Wild
I’ve seen this car for sale in those National Dragster magazines I think.
Thanks Rob, that was some fascinating information and scenery!
I Agree ." Killer Vid's" Pure Tribal Knowledge!! Dean( Soul)
Not sure how much trust I can put in a vehicle that's got two brake pedals and no gas pedal. One-handed steering .. that's sketchtastic.
All jet cars come off the ground when chutes deploy. I'm the one who fixed the car
Good job!!
