That crew member echoed what we already know” you ARE the man” and there are fewer men like you with every passing year. I’m just very thankful to be able to get to know you and your capabilities and knowledge through the grace of your UA-cam channel. It’s such a treat. Thank you Rob!!!
Yes keep theses vlogs coming it’s the best way to figure out all the tricks , so when I get my top fuel car ,I’ll know a lot more , thanks BigAl California.
One safety tip: your helper on the home-made lathe needs safety glasses! I actually wear a shield because a piece of metal went around my glasses and hit my cornea - ouch - and permanently damaged it. Otherwise, I can only offer positive comments on the quality of the work. Great work. I enjoy watching.
Also, that fabricobbled lathework...that there is the mark of a group of truly talented and capable masters of their element. Everyone thinks I'm wild when I rock this type of value engineering in the garage. You gotta use the tools to their fullest potential, when you improvise wild stuff you damn sure justify the utility of your trailer loadout. Hell yeah, guys!
Great work done by everyone involved, Rob. It's always great when a plan comes together. Paraphrasing Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith. Glad you're living the dream, Rob. 👍🏼
I crew chief for a TAFC team and couldn’t agree more about the statement you made about having a good group of guys that can go over the car and make sure everything is right and safe. What you did with the imput shaft was genius.. Had that problem beginning of the season but was lucky enough we were close to a lathe and fixed it. Then the shaft on the next pass decided to split in half right at the spline.. Great videos and keep up the great work..
Man that’s exciting to see you get it dialed in that close with them. I bet they are stoked for that. I know I am. Always good to see things come along nicely.
You guys are right about working with a crew on a race team. I worked with talented guys on a circle track team. We just turned left at the end of the drag race down the straights. We fabricated our own cars and they ran at or close to the front every race. Nothing better than enjoying a race victory after slaving away in the car before race day. It was all fun no matter how hard we worked or how much we sweated. I really miss those days.
Ryokita trackside DIY mini lathe.. We are not specialist! We are professional problem solvers of any, and everything. 😆😆😆😆 Great job guys. You have a great smart creative team.
😆 I like your style Rob... I've rigged up many tools and contraptions over the years also. Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do to get the job done sometimes. I ain't scared. 👌
I was a heavy equipment field mechanic for 40 years. I did that type of machine work all the time, Good for you. People would tell me my shop teacher always said you can't do that! I would say I never took shop!
Great perspective as you filmed ,made me feel like I was there less the noise and burning eyes. Went to many Super Chevy races there. Great video. Really like the man lathe, something I would do
amen about your statement about excitement! A life lesson (that too many people will take literally just to racing, haha) but plenty that get the big picture message 😊🤘🏻
A back in the day comment. I ran a 1967 Nova 350cid 11 to one compression the best heads I could afford. A Fairbanks trans & 410 rear gears. All built by me. I figured I had 5 grand in the car. It was 63 miles one way to the dragstrip. I never broke down on the way home. Its was a lot of fun for cheap. Lots of lessons where learned.
That’s awesome how it’s just little stuff and someone with your experience to take a car from mediocre to running strong. Awesome to see for the family. 🤟😎
Love your channel. I watch it all the time. I look forward to your videos. No one else is doing what you are doing. it's pretty cool! Reminds me of how I was raised. Only thing you are missing is a full face grinding mask. I have picked so many pieces of metal out of my eyes with a needle, and trips to hospital, that I now won't pick up the grinder without it on. Reading glasses are OK, but they aren't good enough. I may be a slow learner but I got there in the end.
Yeah I think we’ve all been out to the doctor enough times it looks like we have shrapnel in her eyes especially when I put that light on that shows all the scarring.
@@robwendland you're lucky you're a right hander. I'm a lefty so that means it is hard for me to use a grinder without it flying the sparks towards me. Need tool manufacturers to make grinders where the motor turns the opposite way for us. I have to admit my hand was a lot steadier back in my 20's wouldn't attempt it today (not to mention that super close up focus is a thing of the past), but I always thought the hospital was no where near as skilled at getting them out as I was.
Wow. You had some fun with those guys. Sweet rig. What goes into the between round work. Heads bearings ?? It was so consistent. Those flames at night are so awesome. You must be proud. Have fun !!!
Great vid, awesome car, one problem, Scott really needs to think about protecting his eyes. I`ve worked in machine shops all my life and believe me I`ve seen some bad accidents from people not wearing eye protection.
Necessity is the mother of Fabricobble invention. You know you are at a Drag Strip when the John Deere SXS safety vehicle has color matched mag wheels on it. There is nothing like the sound, smell, feel, and sight of a car with an engine running on Nitromethane especially when the sun goes down and the header flames shoot higher than the car.

Funny thing about this car,
That looks more like a Mopar hemi than a Chevy.
Brad Anderson makes some fine stuff.
It’s a hemi, and they are Alan Johnson’s heads.
Yes, even says 426 at the bottom of the fenders behind fron tires. Only thing chevy about this car is outward appearance.
Nitro was meant to be run at night! Great one Rob!
