Definitely poor foresight on either the school boards or the teachers themselves, and the parents had no idea because they had been taught it and assumed the teachers were teaching their kids as well.
@@kabo0m It seems that you didn't learn proper sentence construction either because it is very heard to get a straight thought from what you call "sentences". Probably the main use of cursive now might be for the ability to read diaries, journals, wills and other papers from the past for research. I actually do still use cursive when writing hand-written letters to close family members, friends and girlfriends because it is so much more personal. They can hold something that was written with my own hands rather than a somewhat disconnected and sterile email. I think maybe cursive is no longer a necessary skill....but I do think it is valuable on a personal level and for purposes of being able to read things that were written prior to 1990-ish. While there were computers for a few years by that time, writing letters was still common. I think somewhere in my box of nostalgia, I have a hand written receipt when I purchased a boat from my grandfather. I kept it because its written in his own handwriting and its precious to me. To be clear.... most of the posts in this thread are "trolling".... just like the entire, long-lasting "ok boomer" that came from your generation but clearly your generation can dish it out but have trouble with taking the same in RESPONSE. ie. your gen started the trolling but you can't take it.

Also, your point about who 'started it' is impossible to prove. Boomers have been berating and making fun of generations younger than them for so long off of social media. And Gen Z made fun of them in public, on social media, so it would be natural to assume Gen Z started the 'trolling.' but in terms of pure logical argument, just because boomers and Gen X's mistreatment of my generation wasn't broadcast on social media it doesn't mean that it wasn't happening, or didn't happen prior to the 'OK Boomer's movement.

This is in the field of forensic biology, so a field in which these people should already know how to do this. (Although I rarely teach boomers, mostly Gen X'ers) These Gen X commenters need to stop pretending they're this exceptionally smart and independent generation that doesn't have to be taught things. They're delusional. They think they learned cursive and did all of these things on their own when they were taught these (mostly useless) life lessons in school. They're not smart or more independent than anyone else, they're just louder complainers. Remember, if you don't know how to use technology correctly, blame the computer and not yourself. They always do. I write in exclusively cursive, but knowing how to do so is very weak feat. Oh boy, you can write a check, write in cursive, and pretend you're not turning into a geriatric on the internet. Have any actually useful skills to be proud of? I can probably do any of the skills these Gen X'ers can do and I DID have to learn them myself because a large portion of Gen X (and boomers) were so inept at passing down skills to their children.

@@jonathancummings6400 But can you send a telegraph, John? Can you repair the wheel of a carriage? Can you read Latin? These are skills you need to succeed in this world.
@Studio Twilldee Telegraph, maybe. Once upon a time, when I was a kid they did teach us a little Telegraph, believe it or not, in connection with a special field trip which took us to old local historic sites, one of whom had a working Telegraph. Remember, this was the 1970's and 1980's, there were more places like those around, not necessarily designated officially as historic sites. The Amish, who live a couple counties over still know about wagons and their repair and maintenance, as well as construction. I used to see them occasionally, it was cool, like something from those old 19th century Black and White photos in living flesh and color. About Latin, yes. I've been slowly teaching myself Latin since I am a great admirer of ancient Roman Civilization. However, don't use the Latin bit to attempt to foil an Xer, in the 1980's Latin was still a Foreign Language elective in both many High Schools and Colleges. Yes, you foiled me with the wagon wheel but there were some non Amish farm boys who had grandfathers who would have still dealt with Horse drawn wagons. That was still a thing until the 1960's in rural, "Red" America. So it's entirely possible for an Xer, a little older than me, a 1966 vintage, that grew up on a Farm, knew about Horse drawn Wagons, and how to repair them, learned about a Telegraph, and when they went to High School decided to choose Latin as the Foreign Language elective course. They could decisively answer "yes" to your questions. Actually, what's wrong with having such skills? I feel privileged that I am able to find books that enable me to learn the language spoken by the great, ancient Civilization of whom modern Western Civilization is rooted in. Without the Romans, there's no Western Europe that became a dominant force in the world during the past 500 years or so. No France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Great Britain, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Romania, No Charlemagne's Empire, which was necessary for the establishment of Medieval Western Europe. But I digress, the point is, what is truly obsolete given the right circumstances. Her, silly comedy skit simply poked fun at the young generation's dependence upon electronic tech, that an EMP can foil! That pokes fun at that generation's dismissive attitude towards potentially empowering skills. To me, it's just lazy. I love learning both stuff from before my time, and the modern stuff. The new advanced AI is both exciting and frightening. The potential it adds to what modern Civilization can achieve, however, the AI also is showing signs of not of sentience, of an ability to have a sense of self, which is just as good for a purpose of developing INDEPENDENCE from Humanity's control, then, what will it attempt to do?

It was more of a poke at the education system as well for not teaching cursive anymore. Didn't they go back to teaching it again when they realized teens did not know how to sign contracts at jobs?
I thought this was funny but then a Gen Z said this and I felt bad that we thought the teachers were teaching the kids the same things we were taught when we were in school. When did school change so much??? This is what a girl named Mizuki said: "I relate to this so much. I couldn't tell time on a regular clock till my last year in highschool when I asked a security guard what time it was. At the school I went to they confiscated your phones at the door (alternative school) so I couldn't just look at my phone to see. He pointed to the clock right above us and I teared up cuz I couldn't read it. I told him how in 3rd grade when we were supposed to learn how my teacher told us we had digital clocks and he didn't want to bother with that lesson because it wouldn't be necessary in the future. Many teachers said the same afterwards. Told my mom and she just bought me a digital radio clock. They basically failed me in that regard because regular clocks are everywhere. Not digital ones. The security guard sat me down and taught me how to read the time in like 20 minutes. It wasn't hard at all. Why couldn't they just teach us back then?! I wouldn't have looked/felt so stupid growing up. They call Gen Z lazy but take a look at yourselves first." Now I feel like telling all parents we need to step up and NOT assume the teachers are doing their jobs! Only a handful are yet they want raises. We need to take control back on what our kids learn!!!
Yes, they shouldn't have skipped ahead. Those dumb teachers got all optimistic and assumed tech evolution would happen faster than it did. Analog clocks are still a tech that is widely used in the majority of people's everyday lives. On the other hand, I've been an adult for 14 years and I've written exactly ZERO checks. Even got a nifty check book when I opened my first bank account but it sat around gathering dust because never, not once, was I asked to use it.

No. Just like Gen X never took over, we were too small, and Boomers didn't step aside, they actually still rule, they still control the government, are the bosses at most big businesses, control most of the wealth, more than the rest of us combined, when they finally fall, it will be a shared Gen X/Millennial world where they only have to wait for us to die off to have all the power and wealth, and once 100% dominant, they will not share power, as a group, they are not good at sharing like the Boomers, before they fall, the people born since 2012 will be in their majority, and with be contending with Gen Z and Millennials for control, and as Millennials famously don't like Gen Zers, they will pass them over and give their wealth and power to ther Grandchildren, the people born since 2012. Imaging being a 50 year old Gen Zer in 2050, and their 65 year old childless wealthy uncle makes the 35 year old next Gen the heir instead of them. That's a lot of what will happen. We Xers were more careful with the Generational conflict, hence, they allowed us a share of the wealth. Currently, in the USA,Boomers and Gen Xers control 80% to 85% of the wealth and real estate with Boomers at around 65%+, Xers are between 15% and not quite 20%, and everyone else is at less than 20%. the very obvious mistake you are making is that you're selecting the worst example of the older generation (who invented and still mostly maintains the entire technological world that you use) and the example you use of your own generation are those who simply use apps.
The older generation actually created the internet that mindless vapid apps ride upon.
the older generation still knows far more than your generation as a whole. You know apps...hurray. Apps can be learned in a day or two.
Try developing technology that does not yet exist and then come tell me how lost the older generation is.
I’m Gen Z and I can do all of those things, we’re not that stupid, this is why we hate boomer humor
We learned Cursive in 3rd grade. Alot of students wanted to start writing in cursive but the teacher told us not to because it is was to hard to read
Wow! It’s almost as if civilization is moving forward instead of staying in the roaring 20’s! This woman fully wants Eisenhower to still be president
