  • In this episode, Willie attempts to take his first vacation to the campground to test all the reels he has bought or received from friends and viewers. Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided to cut these preliminary tests short. Though, that didn't keep Willie from sneaking in one full day with as many reels as he could handle...

    Hey there!!
I love the old reels, they have their issues but once you understand what they are and prepare yourself, you get use to it.
Searching for them is almost as fun as catching fish with them. There’s nothing better than walking down the aisle of an antique store or flea market and seeing something on the shelf or display case that makes you get all giddy inside..
Keep searching!! Keep me informed on what you find out there..
    Thanks for watching!!
    Willie

Willie, Because we know the weather conditions that you experienced it is amazing that you were able to put together such a great video! We saw you catching fish with those wonderful vintage reels that you serviced/rebuilt that gave them a renewed purpose. Also, we want to thank you for the call-outs. It was a nice thing to do and we are grateful. I am sure that your other subscribers that contributed thank you as well. Sorry that this vacation at the lake was cut short but, hopefully, it won't be that long before you can get out there again and exercise those other reels! So enjoyable! Keep them coming.

      Howdy Harry and Sophia,
Vacations for me these days seem more like work than a restful retreat..
We’ve decided to give the campground another try. So hopefully my wife and I can actually enjoy the experience and not be freezing, wet, or worried the camper is going to end up with a tree through the middle of it or end up in OZ..
Most all the reels worked great.
One broke, which is a bit of a let down but I’ll find another body for it and replace it eventually.
I’m debating on an “All Abumatic” day..
Hopefully that’ll be coming up soon..
I appreciate you and Sophia very much. The Country Mile, 2602, and the 40th Anniversary all did very well and they will definitely be out there again.
Again, I thank you, for the reels, for the friendship, and for watching!!
      Willie 😊

enjoy seeing others use old school spincast reels when fishing i think we all grew up using them or cane poles. interesting seeing you using them as underspins i have a Diawa underspin on a 8'6" fly rod and can't get use to it as i us spinning reeels all the time . but still my favorite is the spincast, i have a collection of new ones and a collection of old made in the USA ones . i find the majority at antique store or friends give me some . last few months i've scored a Johnson century 100 a and Johnson citation 110b both made in the USA both like new and paid just a few buck each , cleaned oiled and lubed , new line and matched them up on new new Bass pro classic 200 . they both cast like new yet to try them on the lake but soon will .

Great video, Willie, wow, that is one awesome combo, and it has some really neat features! I think the reel seat clamp is very unique, and the finish on the rod is certainly top shelf, very nice indeed! I can't wait to see the field test! Take care and be safe!

That Frankenstein reel looks like it works really well, Willie! Wish you could have caught some bass with it.

Hey, Willie, too bad the weather turned on your vacation, but at least you got a chance to field test a lot of reels and they all seemed to perform very good, hopefully, better days are ahead! Take care and be safe!

      Hey CJ!
😃Mother Nature and I are not on speaking terms at the moment. We have every intention of trying again very soon with a whole new group of reels.
      Thanks so much for watching!

Yeah, I've had to reset during quite a few vacations due to outside forces, or even my own stupidity. I still maintain that a bad day on vacation is better than a good day at work! Loved the use of all the reels from previous videos, that added a level of coolness to it!

I’ve had some pretty rough go’s at vacation in the last couple years..
I’m almost scared to schedule anything..
but I had one day to get as much accomplished as I could, it was a LOOOONG DAY but it worked out..
One reel went into the lake (I got it back) one broke and the rest held on..

Willie, Without a doubt you are a very good person to know.
That sense of humor is contagious and I have caught it.
I enjoy Ol Reels myself looking for a good used Abu 5000 if you know of please advise.
I would love to have a early 70s.

      Hey there Jim,
I think you just found a nice way to say I’m a disease? 😂
I’m always looking for reels and I have found calling Mats Reel Repair in Eagle River, Wisconsin sometimes provides the answer I’m looking for. He stockpiles a lot of old parts and sometimes has nice complete reels in his “graveyard as he calls it” that just haven’t been cleaned up yet.. I have an Abumatic 170 on its way to me as we speak..
Look him up and give him a call. Tell him what you’re looking for. There’s an excellent chance he may have one.

my son is a better weatherman then anyone else. to tell when it's going to be bad fishing weather, he just looks at his work schedule for his days off. when we do get to go, I do the same, 1 or 2 poles and a dozen reels

Lol, it was a terrible time.. I have to schedule my vacation so it really hurts when you get one day out of 5 worth being there for or the weekend, which you need need vacation for, turns out to be to of the best days..
but, I managed to get it done in one day..
