Inga Marchand’s rap names before “Foxy Brown” (1992-early 1995): - Queen Nefertiti of The Crew Rotten Candy - Big Shorty (Capitol Records re-brand) - AKA (Prior to getting dropped by the label)
I've seen times where Foxy denies ever being tied with Capitol Records for some strange reason. But all of the people around her at the time re-call her getting signed then dropped. Maybe because of her loyalty to Def Jam and claiming she was the First Lady of the label. She wasn't really the First Lady (R.I.P. Boss), but she made a bigger impact than the female rappers that preceded her from the label. I mean, she signed people like Jay-Z (who eventually became the CEO of the label) and Ja Rule to Def Jam, and she was fairly new into the scene. But she knew how to find talented people because she had a gift: rapping.
Oh and once her debut album dropped, she held back a lot of male rappers' releases. Just look into the Def Jam Fall Promo Campaign from 1997. She was the only rapper and female from that flyer that released an album.
Yeah in my research I kinda saw her distance herself from the Capitol Records deal too! I’m really not sure why. I think it’s a cool origin story. And like you said about Jay and Ja Rule - I really think Foxy, if Def Jam would’ve allowed her too, could’ve ran a successful label and signed some good artists. She has an ear for talent.
This is very well researched and thorough. The narration is also very good too. Excellent job Dreams. I'll be looking older content and tuning for future.
Loved Foxy since I saw her in the Ain't No video. I was more drawn to Foxy than Kim. Her lyrics were more about making money and empowerment. So sad that she never really reached her full potential. But she has probably dealt with way more demons than we will ever know. I wish her the very best and hope she gets all the props and flowers she deserves ❤️

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Very well put together. Salute to you for the research and attention to detail on this one.
Nah I’m hype right now! Thank you for the footage 🙏🏽 your channel is a hip hop archive, much respect and thank you.
@@WATCHDRMS No doubt! Appreciate you 🙏🏽 keep up the good work.
Thanks for posting this excellently researched profile on Foxy Brown. 👏🏽
This is very well researched and thorough. The narration is also very good too. Excellent job Dreams. I'll be looking older content and tuning for future.
I wish we could get new music from her.. I miss her so much, she’s loved & adored by more people she could ever imagine ❤
Great vids! As much as I've seen on these entertainers over the years, I'm always learning something new on from your videos. Keep em comin'!💯👏🏽⚜️
Thank you for a true showcase on this talented woman. ❤
Foxy was unstoppable … but you left out before her car crash…. Mase told her before he left the game god didn’t want her to rap anymore…..
This video is so well done, I appreciated it.
The hearing loss seems suss considering everything we’re finding out about Diddy etc
I still love and listen to Foxy Brown. She is a true talented woman In Hip-Hop who was a 13 yr old girl when the predators came after her🤦🏾♀️
No matter what, Foxy Brown will always have a special place In my heart!
#illNaNa
Much respect to the icon and legendary Foxy Brown.
This is great!
And very telling 👀
A true Queen MC
Foxy Brown was my main crush those years. Oh mehnnn, the sight of her was amazing… i barely listened to any of her lyrics. Lol.
Yo, I had Chyna Doll in heavy rotation for like a year. That album is mad underrated.
I love love love Foxy brown!
LETTER TO THE FIRM IS A WONDERFUL SONG. AND SO IS THE PROMISE. SUPER TALENTED FOXY AMAZING ARTIST
Don't get it twisted but Foxy Brown was killing it and she had the flow to compete with the big boys. Facts and don't worry Foxy, you're beautiful in our eyes. ✊🏾
This is BY FAR the best documentary ever. It felt like a Arthouse movie.
Also... look at Foxy than and gemalen rappers now. She was the whole package. I would like her to be interviewed for a couple of hours. I think she has valueble lessons
Appreciate that🙏🏽
Yes! I’ve been waiting for the upload ❤
That’s love , thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽 I appreciate the support!
Very good commentary ❤
As a foxy fan, this was a good video about her legacy 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love you Brown Foxx always 🤎🤎🤎🤎
My favorite rapper “darkskin Christain Dior postergirl.” Foxy the reason I wished I was darkskin as a kid and only date Dark men because I want dark babies; they’re so beautiful. And I love that she shopped with me at Balmain and was so sweet. Old Hollywood people are always so kind!
They could never make me hate Foxy Brown, one of the most talented and over seen female rappers of all time, and personally one of my favorite female rappers of all time.🧡🦊👑
I loved this thank you!! Huge foxy fan
Honest opinion on foxy was she was too real for the phony shit
Facts💯
This woman is STUNNING😍 I wish she would come back out but i understand.
I think if lil Kim and foxy brown put their differences aside they would’ve been one of the most powerful rap duos not only in female rap but hip hop in general
Thank you!!!! You did an amazing job paying homage 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
❤❤ Appreciate the story on Foxy.
@Boricuamami97 Indeed Fixy hasa interesting life story she should write a book on her life.
She could have been much bigger but she had all them men around her using and no one really looking out for her. You can tell from this video that Nicki was really influenced by Foxy and Nicki took what Foxy did and ran with it and gave Foxy her flowers in the process
Foxy Has Always Been ABSOLUTELY GOURGOUS From Beginning Till Now !!!! Again Always ABSOLUTELY GOURGOUS !!!!.....
Thank you for this I always wondered what happened to her. She was a force back in the day
This was well done. Subscribed ✔
I love ❤ Broken Silence 🤐 #classic 📀
YES! She spoke her truth💯
Foxy Brown is the pioneer mother of 90s rap along with Kim. Period
All the female rappers now should bow down to foxy brown! She made them
she has a nice voice
I will always be a Foxy fan, her music shaped me
When Foxy Brown came out I was in high school….She was that girl! She made me appreciate my dark skin. Foxy is beautiful
Great video on Fox 🙏🏾
Appreciate it🙏🏾
🦊🦊🦊🦊 I could never hate her. New subscriber!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jay Z is not Shawn Combs, it's Shawn Carter
Dang😭 our mistake. Talking too fast
I ran to Google to double check that too 😂
Lol 😂
But still 2 sides of the Same Coin 👹🤛🏾
