As a huge Brandy fan, I must admit that I mostly didn't register her beauty until I became an adult. As a kid, I mostly focused on her singing and acting talent. Also, girls like Brandy (the braids, wide set eyes, forehead) were not frequently associated w/ 90s beauty standards. It was her lighter skin peers Mya and Aaliyah, specifically, that garnered more attention for beauty and style. But... just check out Brandy in her 2012 Two Eleven era.... STUNNING!
Her face defied convention, and that made her even more beautiful. Unfortunately, her looks were downplayed, even as she was latched onto for her uniqueness. It’s a very strange phenomenon.
As a dark skinned girl in the 90s I was obsessed with her from Thea to Moesha. Cinderella was ICONIC you hear me! Met her and her daughter about 2 years ago at my job in Atlanta. Just as stunning in person and equally as gracious. I can’t imagine how hard it was to live up to such high standards because her team did everything to make sure she had a “squeaky clean girl next door” image. Brandy is an icon and definitely deserves more credit. Never Say Never will forever be my favorite album by her.
While I’m happy Brandy is getting and receiving her flowers, i still don’t like how people downplay her achievements and say shady things about her, such as making fun of her car accident.
And Brandy wasn't even the cause of the accident. That woman that died hit a car before Brandy hit her yet Brandy was made to be the villain. Everybody went after her. People would say cruel things and called her a murderer.
@joshuamcdowell9745 possibly because people weren't aware of the full story which is why I refrain from commenting on all reported news without all the facts present.
It doesn’t look like she ever had a chance to be herself. She couldn’t even be born or suck a bottle, without her mother seeing her future. Brandy had the beauty and talent but it looks like her mom was living through her daughter. Brandy had to be squeaky clean but RayJ was doing anything he wanted.
Brandy is an underrated legend. She is literally along with Tevin Campbell the foundation of modern day teenage Pop. She inspired the industry to invest in Usher, Britney Spears, Christina Agulera, Monica, NSYNC, etc like literally it has been talked about. Brandy was the template with her massive success in the 90s. She has sold nearly 100 million records globally, Never Say Never has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, is eligible for Diamond certification in America and is one of the greatest selling albums of all time. She has 2 #1 hits, Plus Brandy ranked #15 most successful artist of the 90s decade outranking every teenage Pop star that decade (Usher, Britney Spears, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Monica, Aaliyah, Christina, etc 😲😲😲). Let's not forget Brandy was at one point rivaling mega legends like Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton, Celine Dion, TLC, Boys To Men, Michael Bolton and Madonna on the Billboard charts with her hits 😲😲😲😲😲 I personally feel like the white washing of teenage Pop by the late 90s with Britney Spears, Christina Agulera and NSYNC along with the fact that Brandy became a young mother and was no longer marketable by the music industry tarnished her commercial stardom. She no longer had that polished teenage look to her and industry politics ruined that for her. Nonetheless Brandy is a legend is is culturally revered as the "Vocal Bible". Even the late great Whitney Houston (Greatest Singer of All Time) gave Brandy credit for her voice and mentored her. Plus I'm waiting for a Moesha reboot
Actually, you can thank both Brandy & the Spice Girls for the late 90s/early '00s Teen Pop wave (Britney, Christina, Jessica., Mandy, Hanson, BSB, N' Sync, 98 degrees, etc). But Brandy was a trailblazer, along with Aaliyah, Monica & Usher.
She was absolutely everything to me as a kid. She looked and talked like people like me. She has an angelic voice, Moesha was on repeat and she is a Disney princess. I have her Christmas Brandy Barbie still. Thank you for breaking her story down you did great. 😂 "produced by the old Kanye"
It's disturbing how Wanya still to this day uses a minor who was too young to consent laying down with him for clout and doesn't realise how predatory and sociopathic he sounds 😮
Brandy is a Beautiful woman, and definitely was one of the IT Girls back in the 90s. She deserves her flowers for all the work and dedication she put in
Aaliyah was a classy, mature young lady she handle that shady rumor very well, people always want to start conflict; that statement did not have to be addressed that interview should have been solely about Aaliyah and her career. It was irrelevant.
This poor woman has been under someone’s thumb her entire life! I feel so sorry for her. You can’t develop into the woman you’re supposed to be when you’re too busy being who/what everyone else around you wants you to be. It’s got to be a feeling of being lost when you’re finally able to be yourself. But on another note, in 4 days it’s the 30th anniversary of “I Wanna Be Down” being released! I remember hearing it at the beginning of my freshman year and falling in love with her voice. My family’s always been vocally gifted singers so I recognized how amazing she truly was from the beginning of her career. Once the album was released and I heard Brokenhearted…I WAS HOOKED!!! I was a huge fan! And although I was 17 when it was produced I was the biggest Cinderella fan as well. We finally saw a Disney princess who looked like us! I grew up in the era of the Disney princesses. Most were rebooted or introduced in the 90s. So we weren’t used to seeing them in any way we could truly relate to as kids. So I was so excited to see her version of Cinderella. I even recorded it when it came on TV for myself and I still have it in my memory box from high school lol. I have the Brandy Barbie, too. It’s unopened and in mint condition. I’m never selling it though. It’s something I cherish from my teens. I’m still a huge fan. She’s still amazing!❤❤❤
I was nine when never say never was released. I was in love with that album... I actually had to buy another one a bit later in life because I wore the other one out. Brandy's first album titled Brandy... I was aware of it... But I didn't know too much about it. The only thing I think I had really heard was baby. Although sitting up in my room was on soundtrack to a movie... And not her album. I had also heard that and loved it. Once never say never came into my life... That's when I got to know her first album a little better... I fell in love with that as well... I remember my young self thinking... She's so incredible her voice everything. Now let me flash back forward to the release of never say never again. Once I really really got into it... I absolutely had to have everything Brandy. Posters and dolls and I'd even spend allowance money on magazines with her on the cover... Even though it was nothing else I was interested in in the magazine. Once I could get my parents approval and told them how much I admired Brandy and how much I love to have posters of her covering my room... I did. I'm telling you my whole room was basically her. Not sure if it was my 9th or my 10th birthday when I had Brandy on my birthday cake. To me she was everything I wanted to be. Actually... Fun fact. You know how back when CD stores were popular? Honestly... I already had never say never... So I was going into the store to purchase a different album from a different artist. Since never say never had just came out there was a big CD display and of course one of those big promotional posters of the album cover... Not meant to be sold to the public. My stepmom and myself at the time explain to the gentleman in the CD store how much I loved her and he kindly ended up giving me the poster even though he reminded me it wasn't for sale to the public. I was so thankful. I promise you this was never ever about me being a stalker I wasn't one of those weird kids who sat at home just staring at the posters on her wall. No this was about admiring someone so beautiful and talented. Again even though I didn't want to be famous... I just kept hoping that I would be as wonderful of a person and role model to others around me as she was. To this day... I still think she is so talented and still love her music and everything else she does just as much.

Kudos for doing such a great job with this video. I can tell you did your homework and are definitely a fan. The detail that only true fans know is impressive. And yes Brandy is still thriving. Her first top billing big screen movie The Front Room comes out September 6th!
i’m so happy you made this video brandy is my favorite artist hands down, no matter what anyone says brandy legit has one of the sickest voices and her agility is unmatched. whitney picking her for cinderella always makes me smile because you can just see the excitement beaming off her face, to be so close to a genuine inspiration of yours has got to be insane. also i hate that brandy and countess got into the two of them, the possibility of them singing together would’ve been legit something.
Brandy was honestly another victim of the industry. A beautiful, talented soul who never really had a normal life as a young girl. Sure, the squeaky clean image was refreshing to see compared to others but you can tell that she didn't really want that... it was more so to please her mom and make herself stand out. I mean, calling out Aaliyah for being grown while both were actively being groomed by predators in the worst way? But as a kid, you don't see it that way I suppose. All she knew was that Aaliyah looked mature and deep down I think she was jealous of that, though she shouldn't have been. Sad.
This is a great video and I think it’s going to have legs. Especially important is 26:10 where she’s credited for blueprinting the teen pop explosion. This is a significant acknowledgment of Brandy's influence on shaping the entertainment landscape of the late 1990s and early 2000s, highlighting her role as a pioneer among her peers and her impact on the deluge of pop artists who followed in her immediate footsteps. (And it shouldn’t be lost on anyone that they were almost all yt. 👀) I actually think you should put an additional chapter mark there to signify that pivotal contribution to pop culture.
This is by far my fav youtube channel and blogger.... And i mean this with all my heart and soul. These singers and the music from the 90s early 2000s is what i still listen to right now. I miss real rnb and hip hop. I truly believe verzuz battles should still be around. Its nice watching and giving flowers to 2 legends singing there music for us in a innocent competition way. Brandy and monica doing verzuz was awesome, giving brandy the win. But both really won tbh. But if we cant have verzuz than this channel is next best to show us their legendary music and stories. LETS GOOOO!!!!
Your deep dive retrospectives are always sooo thorough. This is better than any official documentary or bio I’ve seen. And a non biased lense. Wow! Thank you! Keep creating and I’ll def keep supporting!
OMG BRANDY ❤ When I was a child her show “Moesha” was very popular here in Europe 💕 BTW I love this channel so much! Thank you for your hard work! ❤❤❤❤
She didn't mean to. She and Half-Pint was fighting and the book that she threw was meant for him. But she was a child. She felt bad and admitted that she liked him. "I remember when Brandy Norwood hit me in my eye. I had a detached retina (and) my lens came out, I had to have three eye surgeries. And she thought we'd never be cool again. But I put that on my life, I love her to death. If she hear me talking, I know she can hear the honesty in my voice and my sincerity." This was from a song on his album. He spoke on the situation. He didn't have any malice towards her because it wasn't intentional.
I found your channel yesterday and have binge watched all your videos since then! Great work, can’t wait to see what other videos you will make. Best wishes from London 🇬🇧
I know I commented the other day... I know I told you on my story about how much I love Brandy. Now that I'm at the end of the video I just want to reiterate. How incredible is it that she went through everything she did and she's still that kind-hearted sweet down to earth individual? Maybe her music doesn't get hurt as often now... But that doesn't mean that her talent isn't strong worldwide. Music has changed... And in my opinion some ways that are not good... So I wouldn't want her to follow in those footsteps... You know just to get more radio play. Being the fan that I am I'd rather see her hanging out in the background continuing to perform and act and do everything that made me love her so much! Just like the TV series said... She's a queen
Her mom was so worried about comparing her to every other girl and how to out good girl them, but somehow didn't notice a grown man messing around with her daughter.
I remember when I was a kid and saw Brandy as Cinderella it was my favorite movie 😂 Super excited for her upcoming return to the big screen The Front Room !!!
Incredible talent. I hope she’s happy & content in life. Despite all she’s probably dealt with as a result of what’s she’s accomplished. Gyal can sang & she is FOINE 🥰🥰🥰.
Adina Howard was dumb as hell to ruin her career over Wanya who she didn't even end up with. Wanya is such a creep talking about, "she was old enough to get it." I've heard some things about Wanya and the other members of Boyz II Men. Kandi Burruss and Dallas Austin both said that they was some assholes and not the nicest to work with. That's why everyone preferred Jodeci over them. I don't like how Brandy was forced with that good girl America's sweetheart image. It was too much pressure. Her mother didn't make it any better. That's why it always make me mad when people try to make Brandy out to be a bad person. She couldn't show any imperfections. She couldn't truly be herself.
Are you saying that 's the reason producers preferred Jodeci over them ?? or people in general ??? If it's people in general, how could that be the reason?? if it wasn't pubilcally known back then that Boyz 2 men are jerks .
That’s my girl Brandy!!! she won six soul train awards. She won five soul train lady of soul awards, she won one soul train award in 1995 ,in 1996 she got the Aretha franklin EOTY from Lady of Soul and a AMA for best new artist.
We are 3 weeks away from the 30th anniversary of her debut album, been crushing on her since i was a kid 😍. So glad i been able to witness all of this during my childhood up till this day. We love you Brandy! 🙏 💯
Ew. Dude from Boys II Men! What he said! He's disgusting. And a narc! And Brandy was acting like she wasn't doing the nasty with a grown man while putting Aaliyah down. Smh. So fake.😏
Great video. Brandy was my idol growing up, truly the vocal Bible. I started wearing braids because of her, but I’m realizing she was a bit of a pick me when he it came to her female peers at one point which sucks

I’m the biggest fan of hers and finally found a documentary that revealed new info. I never knew Chris Stokes sued them!! Also nice little Easter egg about the abusive boyfriend….😏 I caught that. And she was so young when the accident happened. 27?? I thought she was at least 30. Thanks for this, she doesn’t get the recognition she deserves at all and this is wonderful to watch!
LOOK, I was like….👀👀 ain’t that the guy who they said did it…but I was just going to keep it to myself! Nice little Easter egg! I’d like to mention they have reconciled and posted a pic on Instagram years ago but still that’s crazy
So, after her album "Full Moon" in 2002, Brandy's career kinda took a hit. But before that, she was huge! She sold millions of records, had her own doll, a successful TV show, and was even hand-picked by Whitney Houston. She was in a movie with Diana Ross, did a song with Gladys Knight, and had a big duet with Monica. Even Michael Jackson loved her and asked her to work with him. She was on top of the world, man! And get this, Babyface says she's one of the best singers he's ever heard.
I never thought Brandy was ugly. Ever.
I thought she was drop dead gorgeous. I would have put her beauty up against anyone else but I was a huge fan and grew up watching her.

Love that her middle name is Rihanna but spelled Rayana 🤎
Wanye is absolutely disgusting, literally openly admiting that he had her underage.
You heard what he said she was old enough To Get it
Your deep dive retrospectives are always sooo thorough. This is better than any official documentary or bio I’ve seen. And a non biased lense. Wow! Thank you! Keep creating and I’ll def keep supporting!
Wow! Thank you🙏🏽 means a lot
You did your thing on these docs. 🔥
OMG BRANDY ❤ When I was a child her show “Moesha” was very popular here in Europe 💕 BTW I love this channel so much! Thank you for your hard work! ❤❤❤❤
Content is fire, please upload more often 👏👏
Your videos are 🔥 💯
She was very talented ❤️
Absolutely loved this!!
I didn't know she cut Romeo's eye😮
She didn't mean to. She and Half-Pint was fighting and the book that she threw was meant for him. But she was a child. She felt bad and admitted that she liked him. "I remember when Brandy Norwood hit me in my eye. I had a detached retina (and) my lens came out, I had to have three eye surgeries. And she thought we'd never be cool again. But I put that on my life, I love her to death. If she hear me talking, I know she can hear the honesty in my voice and my sincerity." This was from a song on his album. He spoke on the situation. He didn't have any malice towards her because it wasn't intentional.
@@joshuamcdowell9745 Omg🥹💕 What song was that?
The Vocal Bible.
Wow never knew so much of this I love brandy always had an amazing voice ❤
I found your channel yesterday and have binge watched all your videos since then! Great work, can’t wait to see what other videos you will make. Best wishes from London 🇬🇧
Much appreciated!🙏🏽
"Never Say Never"❤
Thank you so much for making this video 😍😍👏🏽👏🏽🥹🥹 Brandy deserves ALL the flowers in existence !🌸 💐 🌺 My childhood idol♥️♥️ still love her
I know I commented the other day...
She is my favorite artist.
Her mom was so worried about comparing her to every other girl and how to out good girl them, but somehow didn't notice a grown man messing around with her daughter.
She’s booked and busy!
Before I watched this, I had to read the comments to get a feel for the video because I don't do brandy slander.😂 Great video!
Love this video and loveeee Brandy!!!
Imagine if Brandy & Kobe got married🤔 ❤
I remember when I was a kid and saw Brandy as Cinderella it was my favorite movie 😂 Super excited for her upcoming return to the big screen The Front Room !!!
Incredible talent. I hope she’s happy & content in life. Despite all she’s probably dealt with as a result of what’s she’s accomplished. Gyal can sang & she is FOINE 🥰🥰🥰.
Momma looks good
All of this is so accurate in regards to some of her best work being underrated on the charts.
😂*And I did catch "the old Kanye" comment. Truth
Great video 👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Mississippi stand up!!! Love the Norwoods
12:37 I have bumped this album non-stop since 1994.
Waterhead Wanya still got me fucked up damn near 30 years later. Smh. & I've been here with Bran since Thea & don't plan on going anywhere. 🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️❤️
Her brother kill Whitney She Need To speak about that
Can we get a Moesha reboot😂❤
But only if it’s done right.
Don’t forget Chris stokes bringing Marques and Brandy up on their own tv show “ We Are Family “ that theme song was 🎵 🔥
Love your videos ❤
Back in the days, I would see her at the Carson Mall just chillin, she seemed cool.
I have always loved her and her soul. She sings from the heart and it show.
Ew. Dude from Boys II Men! What he said! He's disgusting. And a narc! And Brandy was acting like she wasn't doing the nasty with a grown man while putting Aaliyah down. Smh. So fake.😏
she was FIFTEEN, 15. its not that serious.. also if dat was true it was non consensual. there’s a word for that. Call it what it is.
Great video. Brandy was my idol growing up, truly the vocal Bible. I started wearing braids because of her, but I’m realizing she was a bit of a pick me when he it came to her female peers at one point which sucks
Hi.
near 26:59 you woulda thought that [they'd] already *know That* ever since #TheJackson5, et al.
#Brandy, like most #Aquarians... #UniquelyUnforgettable! ♒🌠🎵🎼🎹#AceofSpades ♠s *11*
I never knew Rodney Jerkins produced Mary J's I Can Love You!!!!! Wow
6:43 she was BORN with those runs. Now as a 40 year old women, he has perfected the art of the runs and riffs.
She is the VOCAL BIBLE
She is 45 now
@@InspirationalSpaceship INDEED!!
This right here.@@InspirationalSpaceship
Brandy was my favorite teen idol alongside Usher, Aaliyah, Monica & Mya... #whatatimetobealive
I do Not understand why usher Never smashed Brandy
Would've loved seeing Brandy play as Titi on Set It Off. Nonetheless, l agree that it wasn't good for her brand at the time.
“Old Kanye” I live for that
She has a beauty that's very unique. Along the the lines of a teyana taylor.
She lost her idol on her birthday?! That absolutely sucks. It will never be the same. The trauma😢🕊️
b7 was sooo underrated
The guy she was in the abusive relationship with is the guy dancing behind her in the "U Don't Know Me" video. His name is Punch.
Def have heard that. We added a lil Easter egg in that segment of the vid, 👀
Ironic that his name was called "Punch".
Exactly what I was going to say.
@@WATCHDRMS I caught that lol
Yeah this video proves that we downplay Brandy, she is underrated
13:45 She wasnt wrong. Aaliyah's parents didnt protect at all
The way the public and media treated young female artists in the 90s early 2000s was disgusting. The misogyny was off the charts.
