This movie is still one of my favorites, I love seeing her laugh at these movies (you should check out the movie “A Mile in his Shoes” that’s my favorite baseball movie)
May I recommend "In A League Of Their Own" as a watch.
LITTLE GIANTS was a childhood favorite.
Benny is the best friend we all wish we had and who we wish we were to other people.
Another classic and my personal Kids sports movie, The Mighty Ducks you would love that is very sentimental and fun a couple of these boys are on that movie too 😂
This film is a childhood classic for an entire generation of millennials even if you’re not into baseball. You’re killing me Smalls
Me estas matando, Smalls 😁
Yuuup. US millennials had it good fr.
Classic for us Gen Z'ers too
Gen X
Not just a generation… of all time! No other kids sport movie comes close
This movie legit defined a generation. Everyone quoted it
We still quote it
You’re killin me Smalls is still a big part of my vernacular.
My coworker get annoyed at me making Dad Jokes, and he keeps saying, "You're Killing Me Smalls". I usually respond by saying It's Scott by the way. My name is Antony which makes it hilarious.
Yah Yah!!
It’s crazy to me that not a single UA-camr has reacted to Little Giants.
An L and a 7 make a "square." An old term for a nerd or goody-two-shoes.
OG gang sign. L7
The size of the dog is in their imagination. 😅
I always loved this part of the movie, the idea that the perception of kids is warped verse reality.
Especially when Saint Bernards aren't exactly undersized to start with.
Edit: or mastiff of some sort I guess. I think my brain misfired and mixed up Hercules and Bethoven.
FOREVVURRRE!!
She totally didn’t get it
For any 90's kid in America, this is THE movie of our childhood. Absolute classic.
I bet this movie would make you want to go out and play baseball straight after watching this movie as a kid
It was Mighty Ducks for me.
@@aTofuJunkieyep that was the same for me
dude this is a timeless classic. i watched this thousands of times in my childhood with my brothers and cousins. i was also born 2003. this movie can never get old
The beauty of this film is the ‘The Beast’ simply seems huge and dangerous bc we see him through the eyes of the scared kids. Once they are no longer scared ‘The Beast’ is revealed to just be sweet little Hercules.
Idk about little but yeah I agree with everything else lol
Not all dogs are good boys.
Some are good girls.
@@blacksunday4231 I grew up raising Great Danes as house dogs. Hercules is a little baby. 😂
@melissaisloud7404 Hercules was an Old English Mastiff, they're roughly the same size as Great Danes, if not bigger.
The card Babe Ruth took from the kids room and asked for was of "Hank Aaron" who eventually beat the Babes homerun record.
“He’s looking at her like she’s ice cream.” 🤔 She is, lol.
"What do they care about girls at this age". A lot of guy develope crushes when they're young. I remember being enamored with my 5th grade teacher when I was about 10 yrs old.
Yupppp. I was 10 or 11 probably and completely and totally in love with my summer camp counselor. I think I hardly left her side throughout the entire summer lool.
When I was 12 had the biggest crush on my 7th grade English teacher she was absolutely gorgeous and nice and funny and when she told the class she was getting married my whole world crumbled LMAO, I wonder how she's doing and if she's still married lol
90 babies
Kelly Kapowski
Yeah, I remember crushing on a girl in my second grade class when I was about 8 or so.
"Bertram Got Really Into The ’60s, And No One Ever Saw Him Again.”
always loved that part
Too much shrooms and acid lol
@@JakNasty69 ive done lots of shrooms and acid myself.. almost didnt make it out of the 2000s..
@@soramirez5473Thank Bertram.
I hope you grew out of that already @@soramirez5473
27:14 - Hank Aaron in 1973 breaks Babe Ruth's career home run record.
Most Americans, regardless of background, have seen this movie at least once. It’s a classic for a lot of kids
Hercules wasn't chasing Benny. He was chasing the ball.
I love how everything they said about the dog was a lie lol
*"You play ball like a GIRL!"*😂😂😂
😮
Babe Ruth is the most iconic baseball player of all-time. Some of his memorabilia sells for well over $1M. But his most expensive non-game-used single-signed baseball went for $388,375.
1933 All-Star ball signed by Babe Ruth was sold at auction for $805,000.
There is one available right now online for $14,500. It is a 1927 Spring Training ball that also includes signatures from Hall of Famers George L. Kelly & Eppa Rixey and 13 others from the team. So a random ball just signed, with no significance to the actual ball, is much more reasonable.
His rookie card just recently sold for $7.2 million and the card was only graded a 3
More common in the 10-20k range on average. Still a ton for a signed ball, but he was still the most popular player in his time and he signed a ton of balls as a result.
@@eigerw For sure. Quality and condition the biggest factors. The ball in the movie (before being play with of course lol) was pretty pristine and would easily fetch well into the six-figures today
After the dog was freed from under the fence, I always saw the following gestures from him as a sign of respect and a debt of gratitude. The way he gave all the baseballs back like, "You know what? You guys are alright."
The thing is though that the dog never tried to hurt the kids he just wanted to play. When Hercules was chasing Benny it wasn’t Benny he was chasing he wanted the ball.
The Sandlot was to 90s babies, what The Goonies was to us 80s babies. I watch both all the time lol!
Stand by Me > The Goonies
At 27:13 Babe Ruth says, “I don’t know why, but can I have this?” It’s a Hank Aaron card. Babe Ruth held the HOMERUN record in Major League Baseball until 1974 when Hank Aaron passed it. So it was a wink wink to the audience that Babe’s Angel knew the future. Also, another fun fact, it was a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Benny’s team at the end of the movie.
This was filmed in my hometown, and it captures the feeling of hanging out with friends growing up so well its incredible
Have you been to any of the reunions? I went to the one last summer and got a photo with the cast. It was sweet.
@@gabedavis3294 did the actor who played Benny really do what people say he did
The actor that plays Yeah-Yeah grew up in my area and currently lives in my neighborhood. He frequents a bar that I also go to often
And is yoked 😮
Yeah yeah gettin drunk!
This was literally our childhood...and James Earl Jones is just magic.
I've seen this film probably a dozen times and I didn't realize the mom is the same actress that played Marion in Indiana Jones!
Oh-ho-ho, the implications.
She was also in Scrooged. I fell in love with that woman during that movie. Took me years to realize I'd seen her before in Indiana Jones. Karen Allen, I believe?
@@ploppy9943 Yes. Karen Allen. She's also in Starman, which is one of John Carpenter's best movies.
A very young Karen Allen in animal house as well.
Raiders of the Lost Ark not Indiana Jones
I will love this movie forever. Forever. *FOREVER!*
"Pretty soon, people grew suspicious, because of all the missing thieves."
For rev VUR!
FOR. EV. ERR!
This movie is excellent even as an adult and excellent quotes “heroes get remembered, but Legends never die!”
That's my most favorite quote from this movie!
Merry quite possibly learned more about american pop culture and sports in this movie alone than any other movie she's ever watched. Baseball is considered americas past time sport because it was the first ever professional sports league. This movie defined a generation.
Even though it's set in the 60s, it could easily be set in the early 90s, when it came out and every single kid watched it and quoted it.
@motorcycleboy9000 oh yea if anything it holds up even more in the 80s and 90s!! Hanging out with your childhood friends everyday and doing everything together was a staple in growing up during those times in the U.S
You could tell Squints was faking the drowning because he never let go of his glasses.
Smalls’ looong brim cap is for fishing, you’re more likely to need to block morning sun lower in the sky. It not only makes him look goofy but reinforces his complete disconnection from baseball in his upbringing and background. Like wearing an American football helmet on a hockey rink. And “L7” is slang for “square.”
"You're killing me Smalls". Classic.
LITTLE GIANTS was a childhood favorite.
Hell yeah! There are no reactions to this on UA-cam! It would be loved across the board!
I love that movie!! Ive recommended it on so many channels!!! Still waiting thou lol
The Annexation of Puerto Rico!
Heavyweights
And The Big Green!
“There’s hero’s and there’s legends. Hero’s get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart kid and you never go wrong.”
It’s still an inspiring quote to me.
Rest in peace Art LaFleur
The puppy just wanted to play
Yeah, he really did. He wasn’t this killer dog that they made him out to be
Kids in the 50's and 60's had a lot of imagination and cool creative toys like building sets.
Yes, unlike now where you don’t even have to use your brain
Saw this movie at a special late night screening in Fenway park (famous American baseball stadium). It was an awesome experience being in a stadium with all the lights off while the fans yell out famous quotes.
"You're ki**ing me Small's" is a line that gets quoted a lot!
and "For-e-ver.."
It will get quoted FOR-E-VER!!!
For God's sake, you can say "killing" in UA-cam comments, lol. As long as you don't appear to be threatening someone, it should be cool.
People always get me being overly cautious with the words they post. 😆
i''m in Australia and this was a childhood classic for me. :)
You're unavailing me smalls
The mom in this is Karen Allen aka Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark
Edit - a signed baseball by Babe Ruth sold in 2018 for almost 400,000 US dollars
2:54 a signed Babe Ruth ball sold couple years ago for $80,000 it was a pristine example, but just to give you an idea of what they can be worth...
A ball he signed the night before he died sold for $183,500 in 2020.
George Herman "Babe" Ruth is the most famous baseball player in history. His autograph is worth a nice chunk of change.
Yes, he’s to baseball what Michael Jordan is to basketball
There is a movie about Babe Ruth, Babe, starring John Goodman.
This movie and October Sky are my two most nostalgic films.
October Sky is SO freaking good. Rocket Boys, the book it came from, is also great.
Wendy Peffercorn was probably about only 17 or 18 years old while the kids are about 10 to 12 years old
That ball was signed by Babe Ruth who is a very famous baseball player from the early 1900s and anything signed by him, is worth a small fortune today
Now you'll be confident saying "You're killing me, Smalls" the next time a friend or colleague is clueless about something that should be obvious! You'll be surprised how often you hear the quote in daily conversation now that you're aware of its origin.
Benny is such an MVP. Everyone needs a buddy like Benny and the world would be a better place.
This was filmed in my town. I walk my dogs past the spot they stood after they got tossed out of the pool. One girl I worked with was an extra (pool honey), and a regular at our store was the woman who pulled her kid (not her kid) back when they ran out of the pool.
A Christmas Story is another great narrated movie.
Another great baseball movie (that you don't need to know anything about baseball to appreciate) is A League of Their Own. Bull Durham is also really good.
George Herman "Babe " Ruth was one of the first baseball superstars. He held the home run record for a long time. He became legendary when in the World Series he actually called his shot. He pointed in the direction he was gonna hit out of the park and did just that.
James Earl Jones also voiced Mufasa in THE LION KING too. He won an Honorary Oscar in 2011.
His dad (Robert Earl Jones) appeared in THE STING (1973) with Robert Redford and Paul Newman, which would make a fantastic reaction as well (this film is such a delight and really entertaining). THE STING won 7 Oscars including Best Picture as well.
Don't forget he's Darth Vader too.
His dad is in Sleepaway Camp, too...
This/the Goonies/stand by me are perfect examples of childhood for anyone born pre 93
"120...173 guys"
The gap between and the precise number in that line always cracked me up 😂
This film is a nostalgia trip for multiple generations. Nostalgic for the millenials because it was an awesome movie from their childhood and it's nostalgic for people like my boomer father whose childhood was just like this. It's a timeless classic.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! This film is such a nostalgic treasure for me and it still holds up.. A League of their Own (1992) is a great one starring Tom Hanks and it's about a woman's professional baseball league during WW2..
Your killing me Smalls😂
Playing sandlot ball was always more fun than playing organized Little League games. In sandlot ball, it was generally understood that the pitcher would throw something that you can hit. More hits, more plays, more fun. Then you'd go to your Little League games, and the same friends you were having fun with were trying to strike you out. You'd be up there at bat, knowing damn well that your friends on the other team know that you're an easy out. Glad I gave up on sports. They were fun when they were about the fun. When it got serious and all about winning, it stopped being fun.
I lived 100 meters from the sandlot (Glendale, Utah) as a kiddo in the states before I moved back to Oz. Got to watch the filming, fireworks scene. Core memory.
I played baseball growing up, and I've taken a baseball to the eye. It broke my orbital and nearly hit my flush in the eye. I think the general consensus is that this is one of the best baseball movies ever. It's definitely in my Top 3.
My top baseball movie is Major League. This is #2
That’s why I played football and basketball. My face didn’t catch well.
Mary becoming a baseball fan/nerd is the arc we all deserve
For those who grew up with this movie.... It was released in 1993, and it's set in 1962, a 31 year difference. This year, it's now been....31 years since this movie came out.
Loved it as a kid.....and my kids love it too now. We always quote "FOOORRREEEEVVVAHHHH"
I mean kids in the 90s all know about hitting a ball over the fence and trying to retrieve it.
At 27:19 you said you didn't get that reference.
Babe Ruth held the record for the most ever home runs hit for a long time until Hank Aaron finally beat him. That was a Hank Aaron card he took so it was the guy who finally broke his record.
Some sports movies that I recommend:
- The Waterboy
- Little Giants
- Remember the Titans
- Radio
- Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
- Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
- Rudy
- Million Dollar Baby
- Logan Lucky (takes place during a NASCAR race)
No! No more Adam sandler movies, he sucks!
Another classic from my childhood. This movie is an absolute treasure.
This is a total classic in the US, it was one of those movies that it was near impossible to have missed if you're a certain age. I remember walking to our local theater with my dad to see this when it came out. I actually live right new the baseball diamond where they played. This entire movie was filmed in Utah.
You keep calling them bullies but that's just how young boys are with each other, and the movie was made in the 90s, BASED on the 60s. If they didn't talk to smalls the way they did he wouldn't have gained the confidence he got.
They were with each other. It’s not as common now, from what I’ve seen.
He didn’t get his confidence from their insults. They’re what brought him down. It was Benny’s patience and encouragement that brought him up.
@@SusanaCanales1 i didn't say insults I said "if they didn't talk to smalls the way they did.." it's all encompassing. It's a arc to it. All the child characters play a role in it. The negging, the guiding hand from Benny, and then the eventual acceptance of the friend group. It's the reason why he was able to go to his step dad as a man and face the music about the ball. He had been razed, teased, and then loved and helped by those same people, that he understood things a bit better. It's what family does and what boys and men do. It's called Male Camaraderie.
Henry 'Hank" Aaron broke Babe Ruth's Home Run record in 1974
All-time* record. As far as a single season, Roger Maris broke it in ‘61, followed by Mark McGwire in the 90s and then Barry Bonds in the aughts (but the latter two were juiced up with ‘roids, so who knows if they even still count).
@@JimmyStrummer Hank Aaron the True Home-Run King 💯
@@edwardcardenas92 Well, in America at least. Sadaharu Oh trumped Hank’s record by a solid hundred, and that’s an officially verified stat. Also, again, if we’re even counting the ‘roided-up guys, Bonds actually beat Hank’s record by 7.
We used to play baseball like that behind my backyard in the Prarie. It was so much fun. The Praire was our playground all summer long.
The actor that played Older Benny is actually the young Benny’s older brother, thats why they look so similar
Seeing Mary loose it over Smores might be the cutest thing ever.
Fun Fact: This film was not shot in Southern California. It was filmed in Northern Utah, in a section of Salt Lake City called Sugarhouse, & the city is right next to a mountain range called the Wasatch Front.
I've been watching this movie since I was about 7 years old. It's a coming of age film that really gives you a perspective on a young boy's life. I went through a similar situation as Smalls' when my parents divorced at an early age. This movie brings me back to the time when I was young and had friends just like these kids. We'd all ride our bikes to the baseball field before school and just play a couple of innings until we had to cut out to get to class. Man those days were just the greatest.
21:50 Babe Ruth was a baseball player from the early 1900's, he is the most famous athlete of all time. Even today someone can say "Lionel Messi is the Babe Ruth of soccer/football" or hell there was a time when people said "Michael Jordan is the Babe Ruth of basketball". Especially in american sports there is no one higher than Babe Ruth he's like a mythical legendary sports figure, he was the first ultra celebrity that literally couldn't walk down the street anywhere without huge crowds forming he was Elvis before Elvis, the Beatles before the Beatles that type of celebrity.
Gonna cast my vote for Little Giants, also a 90s kid sports classic and there’s not a single reaction to it on UA-cam. You’ve been the first before Mary, please do this one! You would love it!
Depicts my childhood days and antics of the neighborhood I grew up in. A great story and movie. Thanks to whoever paid to have you react to it. If you are looking for another movie similar in nature try "Summer of 42".
Yes a trip to my youth in the 70s playing ball with my best friend in the neighborhood and we are still best friends after 50 years.... My 3 daughters love this movie as they love baseball. It's great that even though baseball is not a sport you follow you enjoyed it 😊
Hercules just wanted to play
Anakin Skywalker hates this movie.
Fun one, Mary! Thanks for sharing it. 🙂 Another fun/silly baseball movie with kids in it that you might like is The Bad News Bears from 1976. The humor is a lot more "salty" than Sandlot, but if you can resist getting triggered by it, it is a lot of fun too.
100% my childhood. This movie never gets old. I remember after seeing this for the first time my friends and I were convinced we would run at least 10 times faster if we dug our foot into the ground first.
Thats why I love Americans sports - they gave us multiple good movies. I don't know rules for Football or Baseball but movies are gold.
You could see that Squints was sorry after he kisses Wendy, and he was crying because of guilt. The fact that he ends up marrying her and having 9 kids is insane 😂😂
Was filmed in my hometown
Of what
Wasn't it filmed in Draper or someplace?
@MusicBlik I would have to go back and look for sure but yeah, draper, sandy and I think the pool scene was at Saratoga if I remember right.
@MusicBlik my memory is going, getting old sucks...filmed in Midvale, which is where I spent a lot of time growing up. Salt Lake and Ogden. The pool scene was at local pool in ogden
@@MusicBlik The Sandlot is in the Glendale neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Their houses are on the far east side of Salt Lake City. Vincent Drug is in Midvale and I think the pool is up in Layton or Ogden, can't remember.
I didn't grow up in the 60s but I was a kid in the 90s and it reminds me of the days riding bikes with my friends, skipping rocks, catching bugs, etc lol. And the way they talk is so accurate for a pack of pre-teen boys lmao
Best Baseball movie ever.
Major League is a tiny bit better!
Field of Dreams, Moneyball, Bull Durham, The Natural, that Air Bud sequel, etc. But...
My friends & I were the same age as these kids when this movie came out, we played baseball *every chance we got,* so this is my personal favorite.
This is a film I grew up with and the one line that has stayed with me is, "Remember kid, there's heroes and there's legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart kid; you'll never go wrong."
"Major League" is another great baseball movie. It's a comedy starring Charlie Sheen.
It’s not a kids movie though
@@nsasupporter7557 so? I don't see your point? Mary doesn't just review kids movies.
I've loved this film since the very first time I saw it. I would elevate it above Stand By Me (1986) as far as the narrative goes, just because The Sandlot (1993) is more uplifting in its tone while Stand My Me is far more somber and introspective. Both are magnificent coming of age stories, but completely different shades of nostalgic emotions.
I remember summers like this... But without the pool scamming. Hanging out with friends, going to movies, sleep-overs... So yeah, this movie really brings back great childhood memories...
This is my favorite movie of all time. This movie was basically my life growing up as a child. So many good memories. Nobody called anyone by their own names. My nickname was “Laggs”. My baseball nickname was “Julio”. Before I went on the field I would sing “To all the girls I loved before” to keep loose, hence the nickname Julio.
Same, I did both slow and fast pitch softball and I truly don't understand how someone can't catch/throw a ball. I can see if aim/technique is terrible but, it's honestly a talent to throw with all your might and the ball only go a foot in front of you. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
There's goes my baby song is on my playlist.
This movie is an absolute classic. If you're looking to watch another great sports move try "Remember the Titans", it's excellent.
I don't watch The Sandlot often, but I love this movie. I'm a sucker for a few things, time period movies and sports are a couple of them. This is a great mix of the two. It also has one of my favorite quotes of all-time in it: "Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart kid and you'll never go wrong."
The curly haired redhead boy is Patrick Renna. He was also in The Big Green and Son-In-Law. Son-In-Law and The Sandlot were both originally released in 1993.
I actually played sandlot style baseball every summer as a kid. We just met there every day and played. And when it was too hot outside we went to the pool. So much nostalgia.
By far the best reaction video from you with one of my favorite movies as I was growing up! Just love your laugh and how you made me feel like I was watching it for the first time again! ❤
The 4th of July scene hits me so hard every single time. Quite possibly one my favorite movie of all time ❤️
This is such a good one, so glad to see you reacting to it!!♥️
I forgot how much I loved this movie. I remember searching for reactions years ago and NONE existed. This was nice cuz it is nostalgic for me. Great trip down memory lane! ❤
This movie is part of my heart, I couldn’t adore it more, or say how many times I’ve watched it! Thank you! ❤❤❤
"Part of my heart" I love that. I'm stealing it.
@@rickdeleon7386 I think I meant to say that it has a piece of my heart, but I’m silly and mistyped it. Either way, it’s a great movie, lol!
27:13 That reference was for the baseball historians. At that time, Babe Ruth had the all time career home run record, and it wasn't broken until Hank Aaron surpassed it in 1974, which was way after the time setting of this movie (1962). I guess that's why he said "idk why", but he could sense that Hank Aaron would be special.
Other baseball movies to watch include Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, A League of their Own, Rookie of the Year and Angels in the Outfield
❤. I use “You’re killing me, Smalls!” all the time!
