@24:33 One of the many jokes in this movie is that White mentions seeing $100,000 “in the movies”, then shows Peter the briefcase which only holds a $10,000 strap of hundreds.

That's a tradition? I happened to see that by accident one time, and I thought it was just because of Covid lockdown and they didn't have enough normal sports actually going on to cover. While I was watching, they showed marble racing, homemade robot boxing matches, international cornhole, and a few others I can't remember.
Omg. The first time I watched it I laughed so hard I rolled on the floor and had to stop the DVD. My friends looked at me in amusement 😂. Had been drinking the day before, so that might have contributed to it though 😀

Also Lance Armstrong’s cameo aged horribly when he was exposed for using steroids throughout his bicycling career. Because of his doping scandal, Lance was stripped of the Tour de France titles and is banned for life from all professional bicycling events. Which is crazy since all of the other bicyclists were using steroids too. They pretty much threw Lance under the bus because he was the American beating all of the European bicyclists.
It was already suspected Lance, like every other top biker in the world, was cheating. And that doesn't change the fact that he still came back from cancer to be the best for years

I have never heard your expression before, "He's an angry little terrier", so that was fabulous, loved it. I see it was already mentioned, but yes, the scenes with Whyte and Kate were especially funny when you know they are actually married. They also play opposite each other in "Zoolander" (I just heard you say that in my head with your accent and it was lovely) which you might enjoy. Dodgeball was by far the favorite game to play in gym class. The coaches liked to take our entire boys gym class & divide it into 2 large teams. Lesson #1: When the whistle blows get behind all of the big guys on your side, i.e., a human shield. Lesson #2: Under inflated balls are easier to throw as you can grip them. They also seem to hurt more. Lesson #3: Aim for the face or private parts to inflict maximum damage. A good shot to the side of a face with an under inflated ball will leave a huge red mark. Lesson #4: Depending on the thrower, catching a ball can be an easier out than hitting another player. Lesson #5: Save yourself for the end of the game as most of the real jocks will have been taken out. Lesson #6: Do you have a personal problem with some one? Get a little payback under the cover of organized sport. Where else are you going to get school authorization to hit your nemesis in the privates? Dodgeball the favorite of Amer. boys everywhere! And good exercise.
The conveniences of this movie are done on purpose and are meant to be outrageous. I mean the chest carrying the 5 million dollars at the end says "Deus ex machina" on it hahaha
Mary, after this movie came out there were adult dodgeball leagues popping up all over the states for a while and some of the games did turn up on cable sports networks for a while. 😊
"I love Allen Tu Dyk" - Mary's so hilarious. I went to the theater on a lark to see this and had a great time! Gym class Dodgeball is a No Win situation, wherein if you're the best at it, everyone winds up ganging up on The Last Man Standing and literally pummels you with more balls than you can catch or dodge at once. However, it teaches one of Life's most valuable lessons - Nobody gets out alive! btw, Lance Armstrong preaching about living with decisions that won't haunt one forever is PRICELESS! - you know, because of his doping scandal and being stripped of his titles, and all that haunting disgrace.

Ben stillers character in dodgeball is very reminiscent of one of his older characters from the movie "heavyweights" might even be the same guy, that movie is also a classic comedy and one of my favorite ben stiller movies!

This brings back so many memories of grade school that I can smell the rubber balls. With Missi Pyle being beautiful, the amount of make-up it took to "un-pretty" her was amazing. Christine Taylor, 'Kate', also played Marcia in the Brady Bunch movies.
I loved playing Dodgeball in school. I was actually pretty good at it. Not the best, but pretty good. Also, the house I lived in at the time was on a bit of a hill, so we found out pretty quickly that we couldn't play it in the alley between the houses. Miss a ball, and it would roll down the hill faster than us kids could chase it. Once it crossed the street at the bottom of the hill... it was gone. So, being the Gen-X kids we were, we adapted and played Dodge with Frisbees. Let me tell you, if you think that rubber ball stung when you got smacked in the face with it.... try taking a Frisbee to the nose. Sure, we spilled a little blood, but that's just how things were in the 1970s. It helped toughen you up. Just look at the playgrounds we had back then. Steel structures 12 feet high to climb on, that "spinning death trap" (also made of steel) that kids would occasionally fly off of, steel sliding boards that were the temperature of the sun in the summer months.... swing sets that we could jump off of at 10 feet in the air, landing on solid ground, and occasionally the swing set itself would come out of the ground. It's a wonder we survived all that childhood fun. Also, if you haven't seen the movie "Grandma's Boy", I highly recommend it!
Mary doing the hits! I love this movie. So goofy. So underrated. 2000s Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughan were on a roll. I THINK a sequel or prequel is in the works.
Also known as "deadman", or, as we called it, "murder ball". We played it during phys, ed. class. The record was, if I remember, two gym lights in the ceiling taken out in one session. The broken glass filtered down like snow. Then I think the teacher banned it.
Some people were not very nice to me in school. I did not pick them for my dodgeball team in gym class. It was like school-sanctioned bullying :D BOOM!
Mary, a variation of Dodgeball did exist in Australia in the 70s-80s. It was called "Brandings" and the object was for everyone to run from one end of the gym to the other without being branded by the ball… rinse and repeat. Winner is the last to be branded. Unsurprisingly, it fell out of favour by the 90s
I was the scrawny kid in school and I loved dodgeball. I wasn't all that good at throwing to take other kids out, but I was terrified of getting hit and terror is a very good motivator. I was insanely good at dodging. I ended up getting picked first most of the time because whatever team I was on usually won by default just because nobody could hit me.
Glad you didn't know who Lance Armstrong was bc this hasn't aged all that well. He made history when he won the Tour de France five times in a row and was super-famous at the time. Unfortunately, it was discovered not long after that he'd been taking performance enhancers.

Mary doing the hits! I love this movie. So goofy. So underrated. 2000s Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughan were on a roll. I THINK a sequel or prequel is in the works.
No it’s not, would everybody please shut up about mindlessly calling everything “underrated?” It’s annoying as hell
One incredibly subtle but hilarious detail that i love is that the chest of money at the end has the words DEUS EX MACHINA on it lolololol.
Also known as "deadman", or, as we called it, "murder ball". We played it during phys, ed. class. The record was, if I remember, two gym lights in the ceiling taken out in one session. The broken glass filtered down like snow. Then I think the teacher banned it.
I was bullied as a kid, but loved playing dodgeball in elementary school gym class. It gave me a chance to hit people without getting in trouble.😁
I always recommend watching Heavyweights, Ben Stiller's character is amazing.
"Well how "convenient" for you…and the clock"
Possibly the most nonsensical statement every spoken 🤣🤣
Has she seen The Ringer yet?🤣 Johnny Knoxville has some pretty good acting chops🤘
You really should do the Ben Stiller movie "The Heartbreak Kid". I'm sure you'll enjoy iy.
Pretty much every word Jason Bateman says in this movie was iconic to me as a child
1:30 in - we a califolk say... gEEt on wid eet!
Always Cracks me Up!!!
Ben Stiller
( THE Secret Life Of Walter Mitty)
He Stars & Directs a very overlooked film of his Just a warm film.
Merry Christmas Mary 🎄🎄
Some people were not very nice to me in school. I did not pick them for my dodgeball team in gym class.
It was like school-sanctioned bullying :D
BOOM!
Merry Christmas, Mary!
"It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em." - Pepper Brooks
From Rip Torn to Alan Tudyk, Jason Bateman to... EPIC
Another Vince and Ben combo that’s worth checking out is “The Watch”
The funniest thing about Kate and wights on screen relationship is that irl they are married.
Ben stillers performance is world class
never seen someone so serious watch such a hilarious movie
Glad you didn't know who Lance Armstrong was bc this hasn't aged all that well. He made history when he won the Tour de France five times in a row and was super-famous at the time. Unfortunately, it was discovered not long after that he'd been taking performance enhancers.
You need to be one of the first people that reacts to Heavyweights! Ben Stiller plays a similar role but it definitely hits different in that movie.
