I use a tray with a loose lid, kitchen paper towels & parchment paper on top. All things I already had on hand in the house. Keeps paints wet for about a week with no mold!
Fantastic. Just what I need here in TEXAS where the temperature is 102 and I have no AC in my studio. My paints have been drying out before I can get them on the canvas. Thanks again.
This technique has eliminated so much frustration of using acrylic paints! No more scrubbing paint off your palette and no more dry paint! It's life changing!
I'm just beginning to explore painting with acrylics - I've been painting with watercolors for over 30 years - I played around with them yesterday, and was shocked at how fast the paints dried. I just pulled up your video, having no idea what a 'wet palette' actually meant. THANK YOU!!
I just use a plastic cakecontainer (dont know the exact word in english). You can buy them at a household store to save you cakes. You can buy them round or rectangle. They have a lid and small airholes. I put layers very wet kitchentowel , than a bakingsheet. Thats all... My paints stay fresh for weeks without molding or getting that thin film you dont want.
Nice home-made solution! Also, Masterson's Sta-Wet Palette 12"x16" can keep acrylic paints fresh for days, or even weeks. Comes inside a plastic box with air-tight lid....very handy for transporting. Includes a thin sponge at the bottom of the box, and nice palette paper. Sold at most art stores, and online.
Thanks for the tip. Blue paper towel is a good idea. I used the sponge under the old ironing table cloth. :) And now I will go to the cafeteria for the tray. :)
I just found you today and am soooooo thankful for your videos! So incredibly helpful. Thank you for all the hard work you put into these as well as for sharing your beautiful paintings. I am quite inspired and empowered to create!
So clever Pamela , well done and you have a real calm teaching style and superb delivery , a born teacher. Keep up the wonderful work and making such a difference to so many , very much appreciated .
Hi Pam - Love this palette trick. I've found by having another cafeteria tray and if you turn it over and using #2 tray as a cover, it keeps the paint lots longer! Thanks!
Thanks so so much for this wonderful tip. I am new to Mixed Media and the biggest problem I have is the paint drying so quickly. I believe this is going going to be the best news EVER. God bless from an extremely hot Geraldton Western Australia.
Thank you for the wet palette demo! You literally saved all of your followers a ton of money as well as being able to match the colors already mixed, the following day!
Thank you for this great tip. I have only been painting a while and was wondering how to can keep the acrylic paints wet. Would it be ok to use baking parchment instead of tracing paper?
Great video pam. I like the cafeteria tray and tracing paper ideas as it provides for a large stay-wet palette. Larger than what others are showing us to make. I’m a novice just learning and taking my first acrylics class, but having a stay-wet palette is required for this course. Stay well and thanks for great tips.
Hi, thanks for this video💐 I use, for a lot of years, a large plastic box with lid for the acrylic paint, the same way you use the tray. Also because people can take it with them when they do an course. The only thing is, not to make it to wet, otherwise the paints walks all over the box.
Thankyou for your post I tried it Yesterday and can still use my paint today. Just happed to have a spare tracing paper to recycle. I have done this in the past using grease proof paper. I had forgotten all about this method
This is a very valuable tip Pam & Ive been using it for some time now thanks to you & Nicholas . I'm currently in Spain and far away from any store that carried tracing paper so I substituted with parchment paper and it worked just fine. Paints actually stay wet for a few days . Looking forward to more of these great tips when I'm set up in my new studio. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge & your process. It really makes a difference for beginners .
Wow...great idea! My paints have dried up almost immediately, making it very difficult to work. I'm new to acrylic paint. In porcelain painting, we use metal boxes with covers and a piece of glass insert that covered the whole bottom of a metal box. Under the glass, we can draw boxes on plain white xerox paper and place the name of the color pallet or just name the colors that we are using for our project. I suppose also using a plastic square box with a lid would suffice to do the same. Because we use an oil medium..it was easy just to close this up and pack away and keep it fresh for weeks. Using a glass pallet helps keep brushes from getting ruined...so this is also a nice trick. After reading a few other comments..Wilma has a great idea of using a plastic box, kitchen towel & a baking sheet & a cover. Cover is a great idea due to dust. My work with this acrylic painting today was a waste of so much paint and once mixed, it just peeled off like plastic. Not fun! Look forward to trying something different. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this tip. I have only been painting a few years and this has been my greatest frustration. I will definitely try this method of keep the paint wet.
Hi! Thanks for this tip. I always feel pressured to finish my painting faster as my paints dry up fast in my glass palette (an unused picture frame 😅). I’ve also tried put a lot of paint on the palette so it won’t dry up as fast as when I put a little at a time, but sometimes there’s so much paint left when I’m done. I will try this next time with whatever I can find in the house.
Hey Moses! Awesome@ I hope this works really well for you - should give you lots more time to work with your paints! Thanks for visiting my channel ;) Pam
nice abs painting...and the wet paint technique help to minimized waste paint

Thanks Pam. It is very cool that you give Nicholas Wilton credit. I have learned so much from both of you.
Of course! I think I learned that tip from him at a workshop in Molokai! It was wonderful 😄😄😄
