Time zips by so fast. This summer has been the pits!! So humid, still air and mosquitoes with an over abundance of rain. It created some problems for sure and yes, the weeds/grass love it. Then before you know it it’s fall. Today was another day stuck in the house to get food preserved while we are having cooler weather as the heat will be back this weekend and I seen dew points in the 80s-Ugh! It will be sweltering and I have fall crops plants so it’s shade fabric time tomorrow. I swear between the wildlife and Mother Nature they don’t want us to have peas, lettuce or beets 😅.
I was able to sneak out for a bit with the purpose of viewing the flowers as it’s so fleeting that with all the busy work we miss it. Well, my tour stopped abruptly when I seen the peppers 🌶️ 🫑 😮 they definitely excelled this year as they are huge and branches keep breaking even though I thought they were supported. My paths are getting narrower and I backed into one and heard a snap🙄. The roses are knocking my socks off as I never expected the first year to have so many repeat blooms-a True Joy!! Love roses 🌹 Still wondering if I have catalpa trees reseeding or if they are hibiscus as it’s something new I’ve been seeing popping up.
Tomorrow more bean picking as those purple ones don’t stop😅. The flowers are really taking off as though it’s the last hurrah for the season. The Luna Hibiscus I grew from seed are Really whooping it up and noticed they need at least 3.5’ of space in full sun. So I was assessing many flower, roses and shrub locations and know that many need more room especially for air circulation. I’m really liking a new shrub Coral Berry as the tiny pink berries are really showing off in its first year. Then there is the irrigation I need to tweak.
Yes, some areas look a bit tired as I am waiting to collect seed. There are the volunteer multi-headed sunflowers that are more beautiful than last year even though the storm broke a branch, but it still goes on blooming. I have a huge area by back field that I planted in half a tub of saved seeds and lucky me the farmer extended his irrigation and it now waters at least 50’ into my yard👏🏼👏🏼. The zinnias, coreopsis, cosmos and sunflowers are doing Way better than I expected-So much better than the nettles. The neighbor’s bees came back and the mosquitoes cooled it-what’s not to love? I said I needed to collect seed and my husband said, what for you still have a tub full-I know, but there are new ones and you never know if the old ones are still good.😂
Your garden looks lovely! Have to put a barrier up for the pup😉. I know it takes awhile, but I was successful at starting dozens of boxwood cuttings. Lol, I know about moving statues as I have one that is at least 400 lbs and it was all we could do to pad her and lean it on the end of a low trailer and back it in position as there was no other way to move it. I hope she stays there as they can tend to lean if no footings and she looks SO much better now with a backdrop of arborvitaes once they grow-it was a Job indeed! Oh, and I was seeing so much of Rozanne Geraniums that I found one at a new favorite garden center along with a Denim & Lace Russian Sage-Oh boy that garden center could be dangerous 😂.

I might have to put something there temporarily so keep my dog from accessing that part, but I only he is only going to find another... so frustrating.

We have cooler weather this week, Roxana! It has me excited for fall! I am planning projects to knock out before the spring rush next year. I will be so glad to not have to work in the heat and humidity. I think your garden looks so good! Definitely not trashy, but I know what you mean. My zinnias have black spots. My dahlias are gone. My hydrangeas are crispy. Enjoy the rest of your week!❤
Oh I know! I don’t do humidity well at all nor mosquitoes. It’s so nice this week, but we are to have that jungle weather back this weekend. I’m just about ready to pull the tomatoes in WI.
Even with all the projects we always have going on, your garden looks amazing!! I love the brick pathway garden ❤ my two hibiscus bloomed really early as well, but now is giving me a second flush of flowers 😊

It looks like the plum colored bush along the fence is a sand cherry. I planted one this Spring and I'm planning on pruning it to a tree shape.

Thank you for sharing your garden! So pretty! I’m with a few of your other followers…so tired of summer. I’m in GA zone 8b & I pulled my tomato plants last week & tonight I pulled my zinnias. I’ve never pulled those two things in August in my life but they looked so bad. Here, though, we can start more zinnia seeds now for fall so tomorrow I’ll sow some zinnia seeds in my zinnia beds.

A garden is always changing! This year I realized that so e things aren’t working well and need to be edited or moved, whether due to incorrect site or pests, etc. Lots of work to come!
Actually I’ve heard the opposite about saving tubers … that it’s the only way to get the same flower 🤔
Yep, was just looking today how many things need moved while I’m still able 😅. The seed dahlias I grew came back the same as last year and glad I overwintered them as they are a brite spot right now.
So "apparently", that is true for the tubers that have been grown for a while, BUT if you start them from seed year one, the tubers that grow from that one year may be slightly different, but that flower color/size will be true for the following years... there is a slightly chance of that happening and I didn't know that.
Are you trimming the bottom s of the hydrangeas to get that look ?
Yes I do, I have done that every year since planting and by now only a random new growth happens there and I easily remove it.
