    A quirky water feature or statue tucked into the trees would be so cool! She seems like the type of person that could do that. Then I would surrounded with ferns and brunera, lots of little whimsical figurines and things thrown in here and there , with wind chimes hanging around

    For that front bed, I think it works be amazing if Leslie found an “antique” farming carriage or LARGE implement and place it in the center-ish under the trees, and then under plant with more of the white Hydrangeas, astilbe, and ferns. ItIt would tie into her family’s farming history and her love of collecting historical pieces. ❤ Gorgeous gardens Leslie!!

    I think some sort of a water feature would be beautiful. It would have to be done in her own special style with some iron and rock and other "finds" incorporated into it. Then, I would plant around it with some of that sedum and maybe a few roses. I didn't notice many roses in her gardens. Some sort of a pretty "specimen" garden with different plants you might not see every day, maybe even in pots so they could be moved into the house in the winter months.
    Whatever you do, Leslie,I know it will be wonderful and unique. I love having things we love and enjoy incorporated into the garden. Yours is done beautifully!
    Thanks for another great adventure, Jack! Thanks to Julia for filming most of this video.
    See ya in the next one!

  • @SisterShirley

    For the island garden, I would make it a secret space to almost hide in. I would put an old tractor seat or two in the middle of the trees. Make a small table with some of the leftover flat pieces from your other walkways, somewhere to put a beverage or aa book. Plant the area with wild moss so you could take your shoes off and rest your feet on a carpet of soft moss. The outer edges I would keep simple with larger rocks and fill in spaces with pretty ground covers and tuck in some trillium and other lower growing native plants. It would be a spot where you could go and let your imagination wander or a place to think.

    I am very lucky to get to experience Leslie's garden in person, and let me tell you, it is an oasis of relaxation. My favorite aspect, the outdoor shower, is the perfect place to rinse off after a dip in the lake or a tennis session. I think the island garden should stay kind of wild on its exterior and open in the middle so that you can add seating for two, allowing you to stay hidden from golfers and passersby. I love Leslie and her garden!

  • @lynnesews9725
    @lynnesews9725 17 днів тому +5

    She needs a water feature for sure!!! I would put a small waterfall in that island and use rocks that she loves to tie into the other areas which picks up on the theme she has going. It’s hard to see how many trees are there, but the water could flow around a tree or two. Every gardener needs a water feature if you ask me..☺️🥰🤭

    In keeping with the red/orange theme, how about Arctic Fire or red twig dogwood for some winter interest. I love the lime green foliage on my Arctic fire. Sunjoy Tangelo barberry shrubs or maybe candy corn spirea for summer color and In front of them for repetition the alliums and orange echinacea would look great bordered in with some lime green sedum. I love everything about this home and gardens. Your collectors finds are all amazing and well displayed.

    For the redesign of the island I recommend white hydrangeas that seem to do well on Leslie's property with alliums at the forefront. Keeps the flow of her design already established and the symmetry as well.

    Wow! What an amazing place! Leslie does a great job with her collections - while some people put collections in their yards and it looks like junk - hers is an art instillation!! My husband loves the ski lift swing!! I can't think of specific plantings for the island bed, but I think it needs a nice ground cover and then layers of texture and color to go with Leslie's collections and other beds. Thanks for sharing!

    Love the tour, thank you Leslie and Jack! I think the garden area needs to include a few more allium, Quick Fire Fab hydrangea and taller ferns on the road side. Also, I can see more found objects from the farm, such as old hand pump, more glass insulators used as mushrooms on copper pipes with ajuga underneath. Whatever you do it will be beautiful!

  • @pamketron
    @pamketron 17 днів тому +2

    Wow! Amazing home & gardens Leslie. I love all the neat pieces she collects.
    It might be nice to have a fountain with water in the tree space. Add a nice swing for two people to just sit and relax. Really pretty twinkling lights strung from the trees. I think white Guara would look magical in this space. Just a cozy little spot to listen to the fountain and relax. Tuck some lavender around the area. Maybe a few David Austin roses for their wonderful smell.
    Thanks Jack and Leslie for touring us through your amazing space.

    I absolutely love this home and space. It's just perfect. As for redoing the one garden space...I would incorporate some of the same plants you have used in the other gardens that are great for pollinators. Maybe add one brighter colored plant or flower. Add different type of elements, of varying heights, maybe a water feature, geared to create a mini sanctuary for birds or squirrels. Maybe a sundial for a conversation piece. The skies the limit. Thank you for the wonderful garden tour.❤

    For the project section, you could keep the trees you like, but clear out the low vegetation. Add in some black lace elderberry for screening from the road, and surround it all with a bee/butterfly-focused native flower section, integrating in a few large rocks for interest, one of which could be used as a bench. You could also pop in some bulbs for spring interest.

  • @labelleforme1

    I immediately imagined a custom grotto bench made of found items welded together, with a horizontal corkscrew on each side styled to look like the curling tendrils of a climbing vine that lets you slide the stem of a wine glass in. The inside could be lit with fairy lights, and made cozy with cushions. I would plant mosses, astilbe, Pulmonaria, and a Japanese maple that can be shaped to arch over and around the grotto bench like a shell. Bluetooth speaker stones on either side let you set a mood. Adding a subtle fragrant planting, like creeping thyme, completes the sensory circle. Keeping the side facing the house as is (because it is lush!), makes discovering the secret niche even more impactful.
    Now I want one for myself!

      I was also thinking of the months of pleasure and the excitement of the hunt for Leslie as she tracks down treasures to be included in the piece. In my mind, it looks like a garden Fabergé egg full of memories.

    LOVED this tour, thank you! My idea for her space to be developed...three posts (square I think) at various heights that she collages on, one or more sides of them. Collaged with found pieces/artifacts or broken pottery as she has been doing in the rest of the garden. The posts are topped with some kind of copper piece, one that reflects the style of the house. The space under the trees could be planted with hostas and a ground cover like wild ginger.

  • @irisgirl2008
    @irisgirl2008 17 днів тому +3

    Wow! Loved these gardens! So many personal touches added throughout the landscape! My idea for something to add to the area Leslie wants to redo, would be a ‘natural pond’ addition. With boulders, aquatic plants, and fish. A lot of ‘antique fishing gear could be incorporated throughout that area. P.S. I would love to win a trip to Michigan. I’ve been to MacKinaw Island, and just fell in love with all the beautiful landscape, annual & perennial flowers, as well as the restoration of the historic buildings. Love watching your Jack Barnwell videos. So much beauty to take in and enjoy! Thank you! 😊

    Wow what an interesting garden. Love everything. As for the island I thought it looked good as it is. Nice contrast to the other flowered areas. How about putting something secret in the middle and plant more bushes around to obscure it. Maybe a seat, maybe a little fort? Something for kids to find? There could be a little solid gate to enter, so you have to enter to find what is inside.

(Don't forget the drink holder!) Include lots of contrasting leaf color and texture on the garden floor and use some plants native to the area. I'm from the desert so I envy your wonderful choices. What a beautiful garden! It’s so personal and unique. For her island garden, I would continue with shade plants like hosta, astilbe, and brunnera. I think adding some larger boulders for interest and of course any of her salvages would continue to personalize it. Lastly, add alliums and black eyed Susan for a bit of color on the edges that receive more light.

    Very cool house and gardens! For the new space, I would clear out some of the bushes, lay down some flagstones - make like a path with a small area for something like a small bistro table and chairs. Load up on the Japanese Forest ferns and maybe some Hakonechloa - maybe the All Gold one for a pop of color to contrast with the Japanese Forest ferns, interspersed with the cool sedums she likes. I don't know how the light flows through there so she would have to check that - some small brunnera would look cool in there as well. What fun and we can tell, whatever you all do, it will be beautiful.

    I would leave the trees and plant Hostas, brunnera, and astiable in clumps under them. I would have to hide a few alliums to add some pop! Then put a fire hydrant that has been retired in the middle of it all! Hey! It's a thought! LOL!
