Good summary of the lack lustre cabin service on Qantas, they really should be embarrassed. If that was the catering and service in Business, imagine what Prem Economy and Economy got! One note, catering from airports in the US is usually a let down in comparison with flight inbound to the USA.
I've heard about the catering issues ex-USA, but at the end of the day it's still someone from QF that approved the kitchen + meal prep etc. Thanks for watching :)
I like this very honest review. I always avoid grilled meat and fish on board because it’s just impossible to keep the juice and moisture inside meat during cooking- chilling and rehearing on board.
I agree, it's difficult to recreate the dishes with the aircraft equipment. However, sometimes they really do manage to nail it in premium cabin offerings on other airlines. I would say my experience is probably down to the LAX based catering.
OK so now I MUST relate the corresponding return service DFW-MEL which was excellent, like a different airline. Still no hot towels, but almost everything else was as it used to be. This time I asked for orange juice before takeoff and happily it was served cheerfully and promptly. Guys, some of us react to sparkling wine in an unenjoyable and embarrassing way and water is just so pedestrian. A fruit juice should still be an option. Please. Why not the hot towel? Such an enjoyable part of the welcome on board. OK the rest of the welcome was superb with a personal visit to each seat from the cabin service manager but the crew also were so welcoming and friendly. This was in total contrast to the flight MEL-DFW so what happened? My review? So can we just accept the rest of the service was a wonderful medley of "what can I do to make your flight more enjoyable" and it was very enjoyable so thank very much to the crew. So here's my wish list of something more, something other than what occurred. Before takeoff, can we please have a warm towel - its such a boost to the welcome and a practical way of calming the senses and indeed a practical way of restoring personal equilibrium. Later, can we please be invited to change wines when changing courses.. An entree can be fish or soup and a main course can be meat so a starting white wine should be followed by a red - please always ask for a revised wine preference when the main is served. Qantas seems to have optimised their cabin service and when the main (entree) choice is delivered there was no offer of wine by the person delivering, but of course there should be. Just because the passenger has refused a top-up 2 or 3 times during starters does not mean they wouldn't like to match the steak with a good Shiraz or other. I had to ask, and ask again, which is not ideal from my point of view. (But I must admit that even Emirates, that finest dining experience in the sky, is not always proactive to offer appropriate wine with each course). Furthermore a top-up now wasn't even offered, like wine service is over once the main is delivered? The steak - ok I have learned a lesson. Do not order steak as the earlier cooking at base followed by the re-heat on board makes it over cooked and somewhat tough. Better choice chicken or fish. Later, a dessert, cheese or fruit is then offered but no particular choice of fruit is available and a fruit plate was delivered without any offer of dessert wine. Finally, there used to be on offer a fortified wine with cheese, something quite decadent. Not any more apparently. But these are additional touches that would propel Qantas into the best company for fine dining and imbibing. The experience from DFW to MEL was very, very good. So the question is, does Qantas want to be the best, equal, comparable or also ran? What concerns me obviously is the inconsistency of the service between the two flights I took over to DFW and then back. Totally different and in view of the service coming back what on earth happened during the flight over? Only Qantas can tell us. In hindsight that flight over remains a disgrace and certainly not worth the money one pays for business class these days. I hope that was an exception. (By the way there was a lot of mild turbulence on that flight which added to the disappointment but the return flight was smooth). I will report again in October. Let's hope Qantas has recovered their mojo by then. At their best, they are so good.
100% agree with your assessment. I recently flew Business Class from Melbourne to LAX and there were no welcome snacks, dinner was barely entree size and I wasn't offered anything else for the entire flight. I had to make my own bed with no offer of help and had to wait 5-6 minutes for an attendant to come when I pushed the button. I asked for a bottle of water and she said all she could offer was to refill my original bottle. It's only a small thing but there was also no mood lighting. I flew Business with Virgin a few years back and they were far superior to Qantas. They really went out of their way to make you feel special. Qantas are now inferior to pretty much every other airline which is a shame for our national carrier.....

Qantas should be embarrassed by their business class product now. Melbourne to Dallas we got a hurried choice of sparkling wine or water - no fruit juice, no towel, before takeoff. lax inflight catering one of the worst
i got the same thing on when i was on air new zealand business class from lax to Auckland the food was terrible
With so many meals to prepare I wouldn't be surprised if it was an LAX issue
Did you get to keep the pajamas?
Yep! They are yours to keep.
The delusional sense of entitlement here rivals Ricky Gervais in The Office
It's not a delusional sense of entitlement. It is paying for a premium product and service, but receiving a sub-par / average experience. In an industry driven by competition, this is what differentiates an airline. I am by no means a 'professional reviewer,' I have simply presented my trip in a video format and stated the facts from my flight.
Agreed… what a miserable person..
Qantas is just a pretty ordinary airline.
Wow. What a disappointment for such a long flight! Inedible beef....twice. No water, no hot towel. Please tell me that you paid for an upgrade or that they were really full and understaffed. There really is no excuse for such service. Did you write to or ever hear from Qantas regarding this flight?
I did not, generally their responses are 'we are sorry you feel this way' and that's about it. Thanks for watching :)
If you put your fork in the steak and try to cut it you may get on better 👍
Trust me I tried lol The fork was actually unable to penetrate into the steak.
This seems very unlike Qantas
Pretty standard from my flights in QF J to be honest. The crew are fine and the seat is decent, it just lacks the extra polish you would expect from a top tier airlines.
This is QANTAS? Depressing.
Unfortunately so... Great seat though.
@@LeisureFlyer The ride is the important part but on a flight of that length, palatable catering certainly makes it tolerable.
@@rachelehrenberg9231 Absolutely. I used to only care about the hard product, but in more recent times I've started paying closer attention to the soft product as well - it really differentiates airlines.
They just want you to die, too. From thirst and unhappiness, strangled by the exorbitant costs for very little. Better to travel Economy Plus.
Correction; it's premium economy, not economy Plus..
A disappointing business class product of Qantas...
You probably just need to learn how to use a knife...
Possibly. Usually I just bite into my steak like an apple but I tried to be posh on board.
Aw little sook can’t afford first class
Hey Grinch, the QF 787s top out at Business Class.
Says the Grinch
Ordinary review… it all comes across quite entitled and most mere mortals could only dream about bitching about a steak when they turn left instead of right.
In that case, if someone is ready to book their dream flight, wouldn't they prefer to know what they could potentially experience and perhaps choose another airline?
I find it amusing that Qantas has provided me with a sub-standard Business Class experience and yet I'm the one copping flack for it because I'm not pandering to the brand name. I understand each flight is an individual experience, all I have done is portray my particular flight.
As I responded to a previous commenter:

Regardless, thank you for watching and I'll try to be less miserable in future videos.
You sound like a complainer
Thanks :)
Ordinary review man. Came across entitled.
I've responded to your duplicate comment. Thank you for your feedback and I will try to be less abrasive moving forward.
VERY LAME AVERAGE UA-cam CHANNEL!
