8 hours of sleep on a plane... that's more than what I usually get at my own home! I love UA for the colorful moodlighting during boarding. But they really need to improve their catering service. I think both the meals were nowhere near the business class standard.
I have flown Polaris class many times and I can officially say it’s the WORST business class in the sky. So bad that I make it a point to fly foreign carriers whenever possible. The airline industry in the US has no idea what service is.
Thanks for the video. I’m going to be taking UA from SFO to Sydney in a couple of months, in 777 Polaris. I’ve been fortunate enough to have flown in Polaris several times before on long-haul flights, and I’ve always had good experiences. I’ve also learned a couple of hacks regarding the layout, that people may want to consider when selecting their seat. First, the entry to the “suite” is pretty narrow, as you note. Because of that, I’ve come to prefer the aisle seats (even-numbered rows), which are much easier to get in and out of than the window seats (odd-numbered rows). It’s even possible to get in and out of the aisle seats with the tray table fully open, since you can lower the seat’s armrest and slip in and out that way, if needed, without disturbing anything you have on the tray. Another thing to consider is whether you can easily access the table, storage cubby, etc with your dominant hand. For example, if you’re a righty the aisle seats on the left side of the cabin are preferable, with the aisles on the right side of the cabin being easier for lefties, with the opposite being true for the window seats. If you’re taking one the two “middle” seats in the 1-2-1 layout, consult the seat map if you have a preference on the configuration. Considering how much you’re paying, take every opportunity to make the journey more comfortable!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to check out the 787. I don't own airline stocks but I do own Boeing Aircraft and General Electric. I'm also into carbon fiber and own a chunk of that sector too. Thanks again. -Curt
I’d advise against staying at the Days Inn in Inglewood, across from Randy’s Donuts. I stayed there years ago, to save about $100 vs. one of the hotels right outside the airport. Sketchy to say the least.
The food looked great from the pictures. Taste is subjective. Are your expectations reasonable? Are you comparing this food to another airline's food? Enjoyed the video. United is my carrier of choice as I live in Houston.
Thanks for the video. Cabin had a lot of engine noise. I like the PJ and slippers. Where did you pack your regular clothes? Thanks for the heads up on the shortage of mattress pads. Why did you say that the 'Do not disturb' light was useless???? Nice sunrise. Much as I hate United, looks like a pleasant flight.
United food is still United food, even in Polaris class. 5 shrimps, two tablespoons of rice served on a tray. Are there any other airlines that serve on a tray in BC?
Quite the experience... I have never tried UA but this Polaris Cabin seems to be a very decent product. The terrace at LA is pretty cool as was the look of the bedding on this ultra long flight. I have only ever flown QF from LA to Melbourne... Is LAX easier to change planes than SFO (although not sure where in Australia UA flies to?) Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks as always for watching Nacho! Leaving the U.S. LAX is easier to connect when flying UA, coming home i try to do SFO. I do miss flying Qantas, but United is really starting to take over the Australia- U.S. market.
thank you for this video. It is very helpful as I will be on United Polaris Business in the fall for my first time. Did you choose your meal in advance?
Almost identical to the new Business Class on British Airways. I'm headed from Baltimore Maryland to Sydney Australia, January 2 025, taking Qantas, Business Class.
Did you get any information about ETOPS rules during this over water long haul flight ? Hawaii. Fiji. Samoa. Can't imagine that they were 180 minutes away from a suitable airport during the whole flight.
As a TERRIFIED flyer, this calm flight looks like one I could maybe take without having a heart attack from fear! Hope it was a great flight. The captain sounded like a nice calm person, nice to mention his daughter Greetings from Canada
Nice video. UA are expanding services to Australia so they must be doing well. That should allow them to serve decent food. You’d get better on a QF or VA 1 hour domestic flight. Very poor.
I can't excuse an international business class meal being served on a single tray on a 16-hour flight. The ice cream sundae doesn't offset the crappy meal, though most UA bloggers/vloggers try to argue that it does.
The thinking is that most people want to sleep after a departure close to 2300, particularly if you've connected from parts east. An alternative POV is that it's mid-afternoon in Melbourne, so to minimise jetlag it could pay to stay awake for a few hours, in which case a longer meal service would be better. Personally I'd prefer a light meal, then sleep, followed by a hot snack, then breakfast. Of course in first class, it's an entirely different matter altogether.
@@PeterH-be1xe You are right. In first class you should never be told that "most people want to sleep" or anything like that. You should be able to make your own decisions about how meals are presented.
@jamesmoninger1982 3 weeks ago I flew on Thai airway from Tokyo to Bangkok business class. Thai airway, do not serve meals on one tray. This process took 2 hours. I was tired and over it. It felt like food kept coming, I just wanted to eat and sleep. I personally prefer the meal on one tray. When you fly business class you eat in the lounge which is good so by the time you get on the plane. You really over eating
@@latoyabaker6302 You should always have the option for express dining if that is what you want, but that shouldn't mean that others shouldn't be able to enjoy a leisurely paced, luxurious meal service. They certainly paid for it.
Unless I misunderstood the information on the card, you have the option to have the courses served separately, or on one tray. I suspect he took the 'all at once' choice.
Everyone use a spinner type carry on bag. And carbon fiber is lighter and has higher tensile strength than aluminum. Those 2-wheels aluminum luggage is a thing of the past.
@@cs8906 I was just trying to provoke:) And yes as the child of immigrants I am aware there's a world. I love 'furriers' - especially high tech ones that give lazy 401K'ers a good competition in the industry :) Luckily, it's happening all the way up to the CEO level now - not just the loser cubicle level :)
Fork and yogurt - great. All bacteria and microbes got inside. The glass in the salad plate looked disgusting. Is this some kind of complex or lack of education?
Video was good but i think UNITED NEED TO CHANGE THE STAFF AS THE STAFF ARE OLDER AND SAME AS KLM STAFF... For an International Route it should be young and lively and not old and grumpy, and tired staff. After all this is for the Airline Image itself... The crew who is above 45 years must be in American Route only. And the quality of the food is not that delicious and not that great and appealing to eat.
I loved the captain giving a nod to his daughter being on the plane. That was very sweet to hear. Great video as always my friend.
Yes he was a super guy! Chatted with him a bit at customs in Melbourne. Thanks for watching

Agreed! The cabin ambiance is great tho.
United's catering really is the weakest part of the Polaris experience, that's for sure.

Love the arrival into OZ.

Thank you for sharing your long-haul flights. It is always nice to ho to the lounges before and sometimes after those long-haul flight.😊
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
I remember doing this exact flight in Polaris last summer. This video brought back memories. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my god, that food in that LAX lounge looks so damn yummy!, awesome trip report / great airline United✈👍
Have had two great Business Class rides with Singapore Air LA to Australia. Only way to long distance air travel in my opinion.
A three hour layover is decent. You timed out your connections well and LAX can take time to get between gates.
I did, super easy at Terminal 7 but you never know with delays. Thanks for watching!
I am about to buy a new on board suitcase. That product that you showed is really nice and looks solid and noble....
Nice to see you again with a great video ...
Thanks for watching!
Could you please upload the full landing video somewhere? It's really good and I want to watch all of it!
Another good and interesting video. That seemed a really great flight, and what a wonderful part of the world to arrive into. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching Nick!
Melbourne My Dream City
21:22 how was the D D sign useless? You got 8 hours of sleep!
Love United Polaris, best in the US. Maybe it is me, but I find the actual seat a bit narrow. Everything else, top marks.
27:14 Jervis Bay. A very beautiful place.
Good tour and review!!
Thanks!

This is the ideal time to go for an evening stroll around the lovely town of Inglewood
I agree. Wish I had a longer layover so could get some fresh air!

catering in US BC is not that subtle unfortunately, it could be much better

No they handed them out on this flight. Usually it’s upon request. Thanks for watching!
I slept 9 hours on my flight from Tokyo to IAD. I was extremely tired.
The EWR Polaris lounge is busier than LAX even at 5am. Come on United, upgrade your EWR lounges!
I never experienced that at EWR. To me SFO is the busiest..
👍👍👍👍
Who was the girl who snapped you when you purchased the wifi 👀
United's Polaris looks much better than Qantas business. The food as well. In Europe United's name isn't the best.....Hmm...😮💨

All that entertainment....and you choose Young Sheldon? Yikes. What was your thought process with that one?
American carriers always have grumpy flight attendants while the food is mediocre
They don't give you wi-fi in business class? CHEAP!
One hour on united is too long.
I was waiting for the attendants to break out the cattle prods.
Only when you are on board. Otherwise, it's heaven.
