Actually, in the early days, Picardo lobbied for his character to be removed. He felt it was a ridiculous role.

    • @martinpaulsen1592

One of the key parts in his audition which landed him the role was that he ad libbed, at the end of a line complaining about not shutting off the EMH, "I'm a doctor, not a light bulb." He was not, at the time, familiar with the catchphrase he'd stepped into, but it helped the casting people see that he was the man for the spot.

Also, Janeway is one of the worst leading Officers ever in terms of commanding capabilitys - with nothing to blame on Mulgrew for that.
Sure, TNG is not "better", but considred the different Times and the difference in what a Series was considred to "should provide", it made a better Job.
TOS; TNG; DS9 - all were its Time ahead. Voyager was struggling to keep up with the rest, unable to compete against "Stargate".

I miss this show so much. I binge watched it once a year, and cannot get enough. I didn't find Neelix that much annoying and I liked when him and Tuvok had their scenes together. I don't get where all the negative comments come from, in my opinion Voyager was as good as TNG. Also, when people say it did not have a character development 7 of 9 and doctor grew and became more complex with every episode. I wish they will make a new Star Trek show more like Voyager and TNG and less like the recent movies with all action and no the core values that kept this franchise all these years alive.

There's STAR TREK ONLINE, now in it's 10th season. It starts out 30 years after Voyager and Deep Space 9 ended. Many of the original cast members have returned to reprise their roles. A lot has happened in 30 years. Tuvok is now an Admiral. Ensign Harry Kim (who spent 7 years in the Delta Quadrant without a single promotion) is finally a captain of his own ship. Nelix is married with children and works as a colony administrator. Worf is back on the Klingon homeworld working as a politician. Even Leonard Nimoy came back to play Spock again. The Romulans are getting back on their feet, the Dominion is rebuilding it's forces, the Borg are a constant threat --- new enemies, new friends, and plenty of new adventures (and some great new characters, music, locations, and ships).
If the "interactive" part is not your thing, you can still just watch somebody else go through the stories if you look up the play-through videos on UA-cam. Going through them yourself, or sitting back and watching somebody else go through the stories, either way, you still get a few hundred new episodes of Star Trek. And it's all FREE. The Game is FREE to play online, and the play-through videos are FREE to watch on UA-cam.

Knenny V IMO Voyager is a great show but it really isn't as good as the others. Although the characters have a lot of development, they just sing the same song all along. Too many episodes focus around the doctor, just like ds9 focused around quark. I really don't understand why both shows just picked one character and featured him in so many episodes that you get sick of him. And captain janeway and chakotay stopped developing after season 2.

I've always enjoyed the scenes with the doctor and Seven the most; both actors have a great talent for delivering dry and sarcastic remarks.
I especially recall one scene from the same episode as the clip at 14:14 to 15:04.
The doctor asks Seven about her study, and she responds something about “scientific curiosity”, and the doctor asks if there isn’t another reason.
    Doctor: You’re a woman, Seven.
Seven: Is that an observation or diagnosis?
    Doctor: A simple biological fact.
I’m not sure the quotes above are entirely accurate, but they’re as close as I can recall. And I can honestly say that I got a good laugh from that conversation.

I kind of get them doing that considering there is supposed to be a level of respect on a ship and he had a habit of talking back. But on the other hand I think it's important for people to be able to ask questions of their superiors (or kids of their parents), that's how a person learns, and also your superior isn't always right.

    • @chrishubbard64
      @chrishubbard64 4 місяці тому

@@sarahberkner The thing is, you are absolutely correct, the officer may in fact be objectively wrong. But unfortunately, the way the military works is, unless its an illegal order, DO IT. There have been a few military movies that cover events that actually happened where you can see it. The captain or lieutenant gets orders from on high, everyone in his squad knows its a terrible idea, but the officer orders them to do it anyways because they cant just go "No sir, I dont think i will obey my superior officer" If they tell you to turn right at a bridge and you know its supposed to be left, you go right, and when you get thrown under the bus for being in the wrong place, you quietly sigh and accept it. Because countermanding a superior officer is long term HELL on his authority. And equally hell on your ability to remain in charge of anything but a mop bucket for the rest of your, probably short, career.
