Amazing work for your first guitar. I built one about 30 years ago in a classroom setting. Yours is light years ahead of my first (and only) attempt. Bravo!
Unlike so many hobbyists out there, you dazzle with your brilliance, leaving the B.S. behind. 81-year-old novice woodturner and 100% disabled veteran. Thank you for sharing your amazing talents!
Thanks man! Yes, the first sounds of the guitar in my hands was an experience I‘ll never forget. Such a great moment for me! Thanks so much for watching and also for your comment. I appreciate it!
I cried a little at the end of the video. I've had dreams of building my own guitar for years. I'm a silversmith these days but still plan to build my own guitar. When you threw that pick is when I shed a couple of tears. Congratulations.
This was an awesome video. To watch it and get rewarded with the face expression when you hit the strings for the first time; oh man, I've never build a guitar but I do have some experience with when the result far exceeds your own expectations. Congratulations with the build. The guitar sounds and looks awesome.👍🏻😊
Hey Man, I dont know how long ago you finished this, but it was absolutely amazing work, and I bet that feeling you got when you first played it and was thrilled with the sound will stay with you forever! It was hard to believe you did all this with at least two little kids. I am just starting my first build, (O'Brien kit) and a lot of what you did in the video answered questions I had. I may hunt you down and see if you would be willing too be an advisor for me ( paid of course) while I struggle through this first build. Thanks for a fantastic video! Your guitar sounds incredible. I hope I am half as succesful. Great job!
Thanks man! I finished it around April this year 2022. This video was actually a compilation of all the non-talking parts of a 17-part series that I made on this build (look back in my video list to find them). So it may be helpful to watch each part as you come to that section of you build and you can hear me talk about the challenges I faces and decisions I made at each step. Of course, Robbie’s course itself is great, but there were still a lot of questions I had which I kind of work through in the my build series. Of course, I’ll help answer any other questions you have too! Oh, and I have 4 kids! Good luck with your build. Stick with it and just work through any issues and by the end, you will look back in amazement and think about how much you were able to accomplish. I did, anyway. Now I’m finishing up my second guitar and already working on my third!
This was such a great video! The depth of your reality during this build process and your attention to details to add your own flair to the piece. As someone who aspires to make their own guitar, I must say, tears came to my eyes watching and hearing those first strums! Wonderful job!
Thanks so much for your comment! I‘m glad you enjoyed the build. I really enjoyed making it. The whole experience was kinda life changing for me and I had a similar reaction when I strummed it the first time!
a true master craftsman --wow he certainly has superb accurate woodworking machinery &tools jigs etc ! what a magnificent workshop ==it has everything one can only dream about !
This was the best 51:16 I've spent in maybe, I don't know, 4 or 5 years. Thanks for sharing. I especially liked the kids, the dog, and the "Dangit, this thing sounds good!" at the end. I think I'll give it a try, too.
Absolutely fabulous! Very inspiring to see something amazing come from nothing. Your patience, attention to detail, and skills along with a little blood resulted in a top notch instrument. KUDOS to YOU!!!!!🎸
You did a great job putting the video together as well as the guitar. Well thought out production. The build was very insightful as well. Thanks for sharing your passion.
You have a lot more patience (not to mention cool background noise) than Me! maybe I missed it, but did you install a truss rod? I've researched guitar-making before and some people thought it was REALLY important, I was on the edge. Stunning guitar! makes Me wonder if I should try making one...
Thanks man! Yes, I installed a truss rod. This video was a compilation of a 17 part series, so I guess that part didn‘t make it! I have heard of some people not using a truss rod, but still reinforcing the neck with carbon fiber rods. And a lot of people do both a truss rod and carbon fiber, a method I will likely start using in guitar 4 or 5 (I‘m on number 3 now). Building a guitar, while requiring a lot of patience and commitment is the most fulfilling thing I ever did since I started woodworking, so much so that it‘s basically all I do now and my channel has turned from a basic woodworking channel over the years into a lutherie channel. I do plan on getting into chair making and doing more with kumiko, however. Anyway, thanks for watching! I have enjoyed the several videos of yours that I‘ve watched already. Keep it up!
Watching your video was very enjoyable and I can feel the feeling you had when you first played on your guitar. One I will feel the same with my own creation as I want to become a Luthier. Thank you for sharing.
It works really well. I can’t remember where, but I saw a picture online of one that someone made and I just tried to make it and it worked. Thanks for watching!
really beautiful work! I am scared to death of making an acoustic (have only made electrics, amp cabs, and lots of misc cabinet types of things), but I am more inspired now than ever. Congrats!!
Loved the video! You’re so talented. You should leave a song as a deep melody and don’t take the part when your kids are talking or making “noise” cause it brings a special atmosphere to the beauty and nature of what an acoustic guitar construction represents!! Amazing!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yes on the kids making fun noises. It brings me back to a time when my Dad used to be in the basement building wooden boats and we would be running around on the floor above. He would always grab a stick and rap it on the floor boards " Hey what the heck is going on up there" ? It wasn't till years later that I found out what that was like when you are doing some fine skilled joints. Such good memories of childhood though watching and sometimes helping my Dad build boats. The first cedar canoe I built seemed to take me forever and there was a few bloopers at that with bad resin at the time. Cheers
And not only that but unlike most creators he's not afraid to let the babies take center stage in some of the video and for that i will give him a whole lot of props people!
I wish I had the time to dedicate to such a beautiful project. There is nothing in this world like the feeling when you created something and it is far better than you anticipated. One can hear the joy in your voice at first strum. Thank you for sharing that. How many hours/days? Awesome build, you earned the right to be joyous.
I‘m not sure of the exact amount of hours. I went pretty slow. It took 18 months from start to finish. Could have been much quicker, but I was learning and trying to buy tools and jigs and I was scared to proceed during some parts, which made me procrastinate some. Thanks so much for your comment!
Slightly annoying how good and easy this man makes builing an acoustic guitar for his first time. He's got all the tools and skills of someone who has built guitars for years. Looks Pro to me.
This video spans one and a half years and I guess cutting out all of the talking parts does make it appear I’ve done it before, haha. But if you watch the full 17 part series (from which this video came), you’ll hear me talk about all of the struggles and errors I made and was trying to figure out. I had already been woodworking for 8 years so I already had some of the typical woodworking tools, but probably 75% of the tools or jigs you see in the video I bought over that 1.5 years building the guitar for the specific purpose of building the guitar. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yes thank you, I'll be watching that whole 17 part series my friend. I definitely could tell it's not the first time that you've cut and glued wood together. I've been thinking about trying to build my own acoustic guitar for the last 2 years so I've been paying attention to people building guitars on UA-cam for sometime. I must say you have a knack for it to say the least. Much gratitude for posting these videos.
amazing job very well done. I wish I had the same skill to be able to do this kind of thing. I try but it doesn't work. and I see how they do it and of all the luthiers who do great wonders this man is the one who does them best. Congratulations. God bless you
Terrific job! A quality video of the process. Would have been tempting to give up on the video details toward the end. Thanks for staying with it. Something to pass down to your kids.
It seems you have good amount of experience for a first guitar build. I actually watched your third one first. My goal is to eventually build at least one acoustic guitar, but hopefully more. I have started with studying many videos like yours, Rosa String Works, twoodford, etc. Working now on a Ukulele kit (so far the body is assembled) and plan to work my way up to a full scratch build. Thanks so much for the nice comment!
Totally impressed with your workmanship and with the sound of your new instrument. Great job and a great guitar.
Thanks!
Nailed it! That little ditty at the end made that 18 months worth every chisel nick... Loved watching this process. Beautiful piece of work brother!

Joining the panels, the glue up and wedges is an excellent idea.

Nice work. I’m glad that I ain’t the only one that says ‘okay’ 😊when I’m working on a task.

Great work, I can't imagine getting anything done with the kids in the shop.
Haha, it can be slow going sometimes. Thanks for watching!
I loved the sound of the kids there. A family shop !

I did make a ukulele from a kit before I did a full acoustic build. I took a course online from Robbie O’Brien to learn how to make the acoustic. It’s really good and I highly recommend it!
Gute Arbeit und ein sehr schönes Endergebnis 👌🏻🙏🏻
Vielen Dank!
Congratulations! Sounds good!
Thanks a lot!
It really does sound great. Congrats.
Thanks!
Very enjoyable, your hair lengths tell a story of patience and perseverance. The pore filler and shellac? Left a fine finish, well done!
Thanks!
Great sounds! Thanks for sharing.
it looks and sounds terrific, great job...enjoy!!!
Thanks so much!!
sounds awesome. great work sir
Thank you!
Good job and good video, it's the first one I've endured whole and a magnificent instrument.
Well I’m glad you endured! Thanks for watching!!
How were you able to build a guitar with such an amazing helper? I would have been playing with/watching her mind work the entire time!
There are 2 of the small helpers (twins)! They enjoy being in the garage while I work. Sometimes I’ll give them a clamp a piece of scrap wood and some sandpaper. One of the twins enjoys it more than the other. Anyway, though, I play with them plenty!
Really enjoyed your video, beautiful guitar, sounded really smooth we.l done , thanks for posting from Garry in the UK
Thanks for watching!
It’s on my bucket list. Very near the top.😊 I enjoyed the video but it would be nice if you would explain why you’re doing as you go along.
Thanks a lot! This video is actually a compilation of all the non-talking parts of a longer 17-part video series I did on the build. If you ever decide to go back and hear explanations, that series is where to look! Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed watching this. Thank you😃
Thanks for watching!
Very nice tone, the low end voice takes time.
Good sound!
It's been a long road.
I am very impressed.
Thanks!
Man i just try to imagine how did you felt when played your creation and sounded so well, really awesome
It felt really awesome! Thanks!
