  • It took me 10 months to build the guitar shown in the video, which is 8 months faster than my first guitar build, which you can watch here: • Full Guitar Build Vide...
    This guitar is a Martin OM inspired guitar with a florentine cutaway. I learned how to do the florentine cutaway from Robbie O'Brien's online course at:
    www.lutherieacademy.com
    My goals for this build were:
    1. Learn how to make a florentine cutaway
    2. Design and make a custom rosette instead of using a pre-made one
    3. Design and make a custom bridge instead of using a Martin-style one
    I accomplished all 3 goals, although not without issues! If you would like to see what the issues are, there is a 13 part series of this whole build where I talk about each step. This video is just a compilation of all the mostly non-talking parts of those 13 other separate videos.
    Here is the first video of that 13 part series:

    This is VERY helpful! I am on my first build and I am agonizing over everything so much that I have continual analysis paralysis and struggle to progress, even though I have been slowly building and acquiring tools and jigs for years now. A good video to watch all the way through, i just wonder who will be playing this in say fifty years time and weather they will be aware of the care and time put in to produce it, i nust wonder if it will still hold that brightness of tone, thank for a good video.

    At 1:56 I noticed you already glued the neck block to the cutaway side. This is a great idea as I too am building my first acoustic guitar from a kit and was wondering how on earth I was going to clamp that cutaway part (of the side) to the side of the neck block. I always figured that both the neck and tail block were supposed to be glued while the sides were placed inside the mold (that I purchased with my kit). Anyway … great idea! Thank you.

      Thank! I can’t claim it, though. There is a course on how to do the florentine part. I purchased the course and followed the steps, although there was a lot I still felt I had to guess on. The course I took was on lutherieacademy.com

    • @CMRWoodworks
      @CMRWoodworks  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! It was a very enjoyable process. You should give it a go! Decide to do it and then come to terms in your mind with the fact that it will be a long process and be content with that. Start slow, buy the tools you need for just one step at a time. Though it may take quite a while (it was 18 months for my first one), by the end, you‘ve got a guitar and all the tools to make one. From there it‘s just a matter of getting better and upgrading tools and methods as you have the money to do so. I wish you good luck!!
