Thankyou Soraya....oil pastels always seemed like they were "full of rules" and troublesome when I would watch videos of people creating art with them.....and I would think why bother ? You continue to expand my "art horizon" 😂❤
Thanks so much for watching Kathy…and as always, your kind words of encouragement 🤗 Yes…we hear all these rules and then it becomes overwhelming so we don’t even try 😅 but I hope to show how it can be non serious and fun 👩🎨🎨🖌️
Your videos ended up in my feed and whn I saw your art and especially the color combinations I HAD to see who created them and how so that I could try it for myself. I haven’t quite gotten all the way yet but am experimenting with my stabilo and inktense into wet and adding some paint colors like yours. I truly enjoy watching your process and listening to you as you walk us through it…I realized how calm I became listening and watching as if I were meditating. I’ve tried meditating and have never gotten calm like I do when watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your interesting knowledge of art history, art supplies and just playing which is so important these days. Can’t wait to watch your other videos.
Hi Jeanine! Aaaaaaaw!!! Thank you so much for your kind & supportive comments; you made my day 🤩 I especially appreciate your detailed feedback and I am glad my videos are calming to you. I sometimes wonder if parts are too boring and I should Timelapse it. Stabilo is magic!!! The lines & marks you can get are so emotive and lush! Same with Inktense! You’re on the right track experimenting and having fun. Thanks for being here and welcome to my channel 🤗 Happy creating 👩🎨🖌️🎨
Yup! You can make all sorts of washes and glazes with acrylic. There’s even a specific medium called Flow where you can change the consistency with affecting the color or finish🤩
It’s so interesting to watch you use such vibrant colours. I guess that’s what attracted me to your art. I don’t use red much, actually I hardly use it, even in my stitching, but I listened to you in a previous video talking about red in Indian culture and found it so fascinating and I’m feeling inspired to use it a bit more ♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️
Hi Alexandra…thanks for watching my video and welcome to my channel. Yes…color is so personal but we are also heavily influenced by culture. I lean very heavily towards the warm/hot colors but every time I order my paints, I randomly purchase a couple of colors I don’t usually use. That way I can expand my palette and experiment. I’m so glad you’ve been inspired to use more red🥰 In Indian culture, red is LIFE itself!! Happy creating 🎨👩🎨🖌️
Those colors are so beautiful and the texture I could see from the blue oil pastel is amazing. I’m not sure texture is the right word, but the creaminess and gorgeous color showed through. You inspire me to pull out my oil pastels and use them more and to play and experiment to see what I like. I love the wash and splatters of paint. I need to use washes more. Thank you so much. You are a great teacher and artist. I’m so glad I found your channel. I look forward to part 2.
Aaaaaw!!! Thank you, as always Patricia, for your kind words of encouragement 🤗 Yes!!! The luscious creaminess of oil pastels (especially when juxtaposed with acrylic washes) really pop off the page!! A lot of times we can hear a rule and then just never try things out for ourselves so you’re on the right path with playing, having fun and experimenting! I’m so glad you’re here too 🤗 Happy creating 🖌️👩🎨🎨
Hi there! I made 2 other videos on using oil pastels with mixed media…you may find them helpful ua-cam.com/video/zpnwP5bhjvA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/6IKuRU68yAE/v-deo.html
Hi Veronica..I made 2 other videos on oil pastels ua-cam.com/video/zpnwP5bhjvA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/6IKuRU68yAE/v-deo.html They might be helpful to you. Oil pastels never 💯 dry even with a fixative but when I apply a wash of acrylic over top it helps a bit. I don’t let it dry for any longer than my other media but I may have to work on it for shorter periods of time and allow my spread to dry more frequently. I hope this makes sense…you can always ask me follow up questions. My suggestion is that you experiment for yourself to see what works for you. Happy creating 🎨👩🎨🖌️

Your videos are so calming. I like the way you explain things, and you inspire me to try the techniques you share with us. 😊
Hi Michele…thank you so much for your feedback, it’s so helpful to me because I often wonder if I’m explaining things correctly 🤗

It looks beautiful and colourful. How long will it take to fully dry with the oil pastels? I look forward to part 2 🇿🇦

When you do oil pastels as the first layer, do you hav3 to worry about oil bleeding through to the next page?
Hi…that’s a great question! I use my oil pastels on either Bristol paper or an artist quality sketchbook so I haven’t had any issues.
