  • This is still my first layers because I have a lot of the white page showing…adding lots of mixed media with my oil pastels. I debated whether I should post this video because I was very low energy and struggling to be in beginner’s mind..but i think it’s a good illustration of sometimes, we just have to show up. And I’m glad I did because I love the way my spread transformed!
    Please Note:
Even though I don’t have to allow my page to dry longer when incorporating oil pastels in my first layers, I sometimes have to work in shorter periods of time. The important thing is to play, experiment and have fun and find out what works best for you!

Thank you so much for the inspiration. My fear of oil pastels is completely gone. I have now tried it myself in my mix media. So much fun. Greetings from the Netherlands

Thanks Alexandra! I struggled with this part of the spread because I wasn’t feeling my best…but I’m happy with where it’s going🤗

This made my day (2 videos in one day). Lovely additions of color and placement! I wonder why putting oil pastels first and under instead of on top of mediums makes it not archival? Thank you for sharing.

@@patriciadistefano7467hi Patricia…that’s a great question! From what I can figure it’s because when you layer media on top of oil pastels, over time, that media can peel or flake off because oil pastels never fully dry. I water down my acrylics so generally, it doesn’t flake off but if you’re selling your work etc…you don’t want to do that or at least tell the buyer that it’s not archival. Hope this helps!

@@sorayanulliah Yes, that does explain it very well. Thank you so much. Oh no, I don’t sell. I enjoy learning and creating for myself.

So beautiful, I love seeing your process. Do you have a daily art practice? I was curious how much time you spent creating and how you find the time. I find it difficult to create like I would wish, but know it important to find the time.

Hi there! Thanks so much for watching my videos!
Yes, I have a daily art practice and have for decades. I had to cultivate it, though. I have a home art studio but even when I didn’t, I set a space aside for my art. Even a small table with a few art supplies makes it easier to create everyday. I’ll make a video about it!
      In the meantime…happy creating!
