India ordered another lot of 517 fairly recently and my understanding was that the 516 was discontinued due to lack of military orders and could be woken up if they received new orders. India also ordered a lot of ammunition for them as they were getting really bad results using their locally produced 7.62x51 which is made for their machine guns. The order was due to more issues getting the AK-203 production going and their original orders were just meant to be a stopgap until AK-203's were available. They have a couple of hundred thousand 517's there now or will have and my understanding is that once they stopped using locally made MG ammunition in them that the troops using them are very happy with them.

Why is the carbon fiber handguard that Lancer makes for the 516 considered "too light" for military use? Honestly curious if they have been tested. Great video btw.

I have a Sig 716 Patrol. It is the 7.62x51mm NATO version of this rifle and it also shares the same piston operating mechanism. The newer Sig 716i is the direct impingement version. I've found the rifle to be very reliable for a 7.62x51 AR10 type rifle. As you pointed out there is no standard for piston ARs and that situation is even worse for AR10s because the Sig 716 is completely proprietary and isn't even compatible with other SR25/LR308 uppers and lowers from what I've read. The gun is much heavier than a DI AR10 but its relatively accurate for what it is and its gassed decently well. Hey Val, do you have experience with shooting the HK416? Is it comparable to the SIG516? I see that the condition of the skin on your hands is already better, try using Indulona Atopiredu or Neutrogena unscented hand cream. ;)
How much maintenance / cleaning does it need and how well does it handle overheating compared to a classic m4? Is it in these terms as forgiving as the AK platforms or is it more like M4?
The SIG 517 is still in production I believe and SIG would wake up the 516 again if there was a military that would order it. Probably mostly due to India purchasing several lots of 517. They had to purchase even more due to their partnership with Kalashnikov Concern being a basket case of a mess and still not producing rifles.
The indian army uses the SIG 716 & the feedback is mixed, while we had a jopint venture deal with russia to locally manafactur AK's however due to the war with Ukraine that got delayed, so fo fill in the gap & their own pockets thousands of Sig 716 were purchased, the gun has mixed reviews, its shoots well but us too long & inconvenient for the infantryman to carry
I own two Gen 1's, heavier yes, reliable yes. The action is very smooth, unfortunately, not select fire. I put K-Cans on both of mine, trying not to make the beasts much heavier. I do shoot my DI guns more often, but I do like these rifles and can't see myself ever selling them.

Hey Val,
do you have experience with shooting the HK416? Is it comparable to the SIG516?
I see that the condition of the skin on your hands is already better, try using Indulona Atopiredu or Neutrogena unscented hand cream. ;)
Can you make an updated reconnaissance loadout like the one you posted two years ago?
Good to see you 😊
my hero is back!
the Caracal 816 is essentially an improved model of the 516.
They are literally the exact same
I'm so mad at myself for not buying like 5 of these when they were cheap.
This gun is from CS or Project IGi
a family member of mine still uses it in a Turkish special force.
There is no such thing as a sig 517
Ah sweet, unobtainium
The indian army uses the SIG 716 & the feedback is mixed, while we had a jopint venture deal with russia to locally manafactur AK's however due to the war with Ukraine that got delayed, so fo fill in the gap & their own pockets thousands of Sig 716 were purchased, the gun has mixed reviews, its shoots well but us too long & inconvenient for the infantryman to carry
Awesome video. If you get the chance could you review the c7 that was sent to Ukraine ?
Do you carry a handgun in combat? If you do, what kind and maybe a review? Haha. How often do soldiers get to use one in battle?
Any interest on a PEQ 15 review and use inUkraine?
If you ever find a Robinson Arm's XCR-L, please do a review on it!
Midwest Industries makes a nice mlok handguard for this
I own two Gen 1's, heavier yes, reliable yes. The action is very smooth, unfortunately, not select fire. I put K-Cans on both of mine, trying not to make the beasts much heavier. I do shoot my DI guns more often, but I do like these rifles and can't see myself ever selling them.
Quad rails don’t get the respect they deserve.
Yes they do lol
They are aftermarket tho. The ones I saw had a shorter one like the m4a1
@@Blackstar-yd3yfthose in the video are stock. Source - I own one
@@ojsimpsonofficial when did U get one . The ones I see now on sale have the short one and looks stupid
@@Blackstar-yd3yf maybe 2017-2018ish? I bought the upper from “finfeatherfur” for like $400ish
Stop teasing us with the MG3 in the background 😂
Midwest makes a lighter foregrip
AK74 /47 or AR15? Which rifle do you prefer if i may ask
thoughts on the dbal?
This seems a lot more thought out than the HK416
the day where sig actually make good stuff
mg3 review when
there seem to be a lot of these "specops" tropthy status weapons ending up on the black market in Europe warnoir did something on the "scene" in Gibraltar , are these sold by the "special" soldiers that seem to brandish them ,I m talking about the poseurs of aidar kraken rdk etc or do these get smuggled from the country en masse via odessa or other export routes?
Of course, comrade. Any day now, comrade.
Russian propaganda is shittalking about "black market" since 2014, or even earlier, and all of that is completely proofless.
@@fritzhaber3994for the record I replied with a link to war noir tweet showcasing a milspec M16 for sale in France but it got removed
@@fabreezethefaintinggoat5484you do realize that the M16 is a 50 year old rifle that has been sued in countless wars?
Regardless a random tweet isn’t proof of anything.
That's an L85 sling!
