- Quick SIG516 review after 3 years of usage. Will go through features of this rifle, my upgrades and my experience. Of course, now we have MCX, which is even cooler, but 516 was a good tool.

Very underrated mid-tier category rifle that performs in the high-tier category.
Which rifles do you consider as high-tier?

One of the designers from HK 416 program was a designer on this gun too, he also did the caracal 816 piston ar.

Mine will not cycle pmc 5.56 55gr fmj on reg gas setting. Factory parts, no modifications and rifle was always cleaned and maintained. Only complaint i have, besides when using suppressed. It will not cycle on suppressor setting with any ammo ive tried. Suppressed on reg gas setting it works fine. The gas system seems very precise and i feel like it comes down to choice of ammunition. Again all factory internals, great condition. It is gen 2 16in barrel. I will still never get rid of it. I actually love the weight, compared to mynother ar.

You may want to try swapping the bolt carrier out for the original designed LWRC bolt carrier. Exact match.
the gas regulator is really amazing, you can just take it out and drill the holes to size you want. I wish I had an extra so I could experiment without breaking it. perhaps drill your suppressed setting out ~.005 in

I heard the 516 has a better gas system than the 416 but the 416 is made from better materials.

The materials claim is likely a myth but the design is essentially a slightly upgraded version of the 416 and they named it 516 just to be dicks to HK. And dont they kind of deserve it? Lol. I have a gen 1 516 and its absolutely my favorite upper
Agree to you, it just works all the time with any ammo. Sad SIG no more manufactures them(

Hi, I would say it is good price, if rifle is in good condition.
I've had one for years and have probably 4k rounds threw it without any malfunctions.
I just got one for 850 at auction, check proxibid they usually go for under 1k

Do they still produce them for military and police ?
I think they are not producing new 516, some countries and units bought them in past and still using. 716 model is still in production.
