Let’s not forget how Ducktales move Daisy away from being a “mean girl” but to someone who actually has depth. She was genuinely nice to the people she works with, like when she defends that one waitress from her boss.

Gia Hy Pham this remake really kicks ass in that regard. Gambit771 launchpad may be “stupid”, but he’s had plenty of moments to shine as the kind soul he is. there was a recent episode this season focused on him and dewey’s friendship and it gave a lot of good insight into launchpad as a character. although he’s not the smartest, he genuinely cares for the people in his life and will do anything to keep them safe. and its not like there aren’t smart male characters in the show, huey is INCREDIBLY intelligent and hardworking despite being a kid. he knows so much about the world around him and constantly wants to learn more. we also have gyro who, despite his standoffish personality, is also incredibly intelligent and hardworking! there’s plenty of intelligent male characters and they are NOT made out to be less intelligent than the female characters, that’s such a stupid arguments
also the butler? really? he’s a barely used side character at best, and you used him instead of anyone else to defend your argument?

I won't lie but when daisy clarifies she can understand donald despite his speech impediment i actually felt something.
I don't fully know why but maybe it's the way she says it. So naturally instead of sounding preachy like there's some subtle message of liking somebody despite whatever handicaps they have. Or because it's donald and daisy so they have to like each other no matter what.
It's neither of those. It feels like their conversation could've happened between any other characters and that it's not exclusive to just daisy and donald.
    Natural.
(I normally hate seeing people say how surprised they are when they get at least 1k or more likes on a comment. But now i know how it feels since this is legit the first time it's happened to me. I truly didn't think many people would agree with me. And i wasn't sure if calling it natural was the best way to describe it but now i see it was.)

Which is why I love natural relationships in films and shows, because it seems like a real relationship between two very real people.
Relationships that are forced, or exist just so that the guy can get the girl, or two gay guys that exist solemnly to be gay and married and that’s the extent of their characters are the reasons why I don’t like literally every love story out there.
50 Shades of Grey is a prime example of a forced, non-natural relationship. And I doubt I have to say anything to further my point about that film.

You want my honest opinion? I think DT is highly disparaging to Donald's speech impediment and speech impediments as a whole, and Daisy's reaction to him only makes him worse
It's played for laughs the entire time. The amount of times Donald has been not understood and mocked for his voice by his sister, his uncle who is essentially his dad, and even his nephews who are practically his sons is depressing. He's left in a depressive state hoping that his voice could get change because no one supports him and openly are sadistic to him over it. Daisy didn't even see his voice as him, but mishears him for someone who he's not.
It's bizarre for a show who claims it's supporting disabilities with Della to mock speech impediments. And it's to the point Donald's voice actor Tony Anselmo has come out publicly with major dislike for the series and how the creators treat him and how he does his voice
The characters in Legend of the Three Caballeros support him way more then anyone in Ducktales ever has, and they make him feel natural by understanding what he says and never bringing up his voice disclarity to him. It's another reason ever person I've talked to who watched both prefer Caballeros immensely. His voice shouldn't be used to "mock" as a "joke"

sadlobster1 Chichi's nagging at Goku felt a bit warranted to me. She wanted Gotham to focus on academics, not fighting. In normal society, having an education was important. Iirc, Toriyama wrote her this way to represent the stereotypical overbearing Asian parent who wants her child to focus on schooling. I don't recall Chichi calling Goku such names...unless it was a dub thing or either it was so rare I'm just not remembering. Seems when she was upset with Goku, it was always for a semi legit reason. It's still interesting how Chichi became slightly more lax after Goku was killed...the second time. She wasn't as obsessed with education for the boys and even trained Goten.
I don't recall a thing about Bulma and Vegeta or much of their interactions.

Like, in one of the stories she legit ditches Donald while on a date with him because they meet Gladstone and he can get her into a fancy restaurant.
They don't even break up, it's just normal that she completely ignores Donald in favor of being spoiled by Gladstone and once Donald has won back her favor (often after risking his life on some adventure) she just continues on with him, often leaving Gladstone really sad...

Minnie seems super toxic too. I don't really watch Mickey Mouse that much but the first time the franchise introduced Mortimer Mouse (Minnies Ex) Minnie basically invited him to stay for her date with Mickey and kept simping gor him the entire time. In later cartoons she always leaves Mickey for Mortimer. Yeah, Mortimer always makes Mickey see bad first and Minnie always dislikes him in the beginning of an episode but as soon she's disappointed in Mickey she goes back to Mortimer. Like bro, if I had an narcissistic ex I despise I wouldn't change my mind about them as soon as I am single. It's no wonder that Mortimer always tries to break them up when she makes it clear that he had a chance if she was single. I am not saying his behavior is justified, it's totally wrong but he is a narcissist aßhole who's obsessed with her for some reason. What did she think he would do when she keeps leaning him on???

I have to disagree on the topic of changing Donald's voice, because it's been used sparingly in the very few episodes they've done it, and when they have done it, it's been a ton of fun and felt like it was done with purpose. The first episode, The Shadow War, it served a dual purpose of being funny to hear badass Donald thanks to Don Cheadle and also keeping the sense of tension Magica's attack was providing. And then the second, and so far last major voice change was in Quack Pack, which makes perfect sense. Donald wished for a normal family, and as part of that, got his wish of a normal voice. It was fun to revisit Donald's Don Cheadle voice, and given how they've only done it twice, it doesn't feel disrespectful to that iconic quacky voice of his. And then, of course, we get a great singing voice from Donald to illustrate how Daisy hears him, which just made that moment beautiful and worked perfectly to make their relationship endearing.

They also did a good job of playing to the rule of 3 with the gag. The first Cheadle moment set the tone of what Donald would sound like without his impediment. The second time enforced the idea by giving us what Donald wishes he sounded like. The third time subverted the gag by using a different voice to help identify why Donald's voice doesn't NEED to change, because someone out there likes and understands what he says and how he says it.

I guess what he means by "disrespectful" is that everytime they want Donald to play a bigger part in an episode they come up with a way to make him more intelligible (even young Donald in Last Christmas was perfectly understandable). I don't necessarily agree that it's disrespectful to the character, but I did notice it. But given that it's always so funny how they do it I don't really care. And because they went out of their way to show Daisy doesn't see his voice as a problem, but as a feature, I think it might lead to them not using these workarounds anymore

The second is the real embodiment of life with all the problems and human handicaps. But this does not prevent them from loving each other. Their relationship has always been tested for reliability, Mouse couple is not, they do not have roughness, which makes worry for them when a bad situation arises. Duck couple is much more reliable. This is confirmed by various interpretations, where they showed their love, devotion and care. For me, Donald and Daisy are not the embodiment of toxicity, but reality. Life is not sugar. It was only because of voice actors tackling the voice the way they've been doing so that the speech impediment was a thing in the first place.
Outside of being a show where all of the Disney Afternoon can co-exist, DuckTales is a show that brings together amazing talent to, not only bring back the magic of the old cartoon with new twists, but to also bring forward stories from the comics that had yet to be told on the small screen. It's from the comics where we found out that Della disappeared in space, that an ancestor of the McDucks invented golf, where the Bombie chasing Scrooge came from, and why Don Cheadle is brought on to voice Donald without the impediment: it's actually a reference to the Donald of the comics that inspired both versions of DuckTales.

@@itspronounceddie8129 Duck comics have very loose canon, as the characters are used based on the needs of the story. Daisy was created as "love interest", not as "loving partner". As a love interest, a romantic rival is in order - and to make sure you root for Donald that rival needs to have everything Donald doesn't have, so Gladstone is just perfect.
What we see in the comics is usually not a couple, but two people dating. One of them dating others as well - which is perfectly fine to do before it gets more serious, and Donald is usually well aware. It would be toxic for Daisy to keep both Gladstone and Donald on a short leash while never committing to either for an extended period of time. However, since comics don't have development we have no idea how long it goes on. Basically, every story could be the first and last one where Gladstone is on Daisies mind while in the future, she is Donald exclusive, we just never get to see that future since everything resets.
But who wants to think of parallel universes or time resetting while reading Duck comics? Our Head canon is just that it is a neverending rivalry, which is toxic, and the stories where they are a couple convince us that the rivalry happens while Daisy is Donalds girlfriend, making it even worse.
Since DuckTales allows for development, if they set up a romantic rival for Donald, it would be totally fine to play out that aspect at the beginning of there relationship (like, Donald asks Daisy for a date and she reveals she is already seeing someone, terribly sorry - there can be a competition, other guy turns out to be an ass, Daisy chooses Donald) but then they would have to stick to the development and drop that aspect going forward for her not to be a bitch.
(That being said, because she seems like a bitch due to the repetition, she is sometimes depicted as a bitch. But all characters are always a bit different depending on the story/author/time/location.)

    Things I've seen/heard show a non-abusive Donsy relationship:
    DuckTales 2017
    Quack Pack
    Both of the preschool shows
    House of Mouse
Literally everything else pairs them in a relationship that's abusive on both sides or one where Daisy is the abuser and Donald is the victim.
The preschool shows obviously do this out of obligation, and Daisy has a totally different personality in them. Normally she's sassy and temperamental. In Clubhouse and Roadster Racers/Mixed-Up Adventures, Daisy's absent-minded, crazy, sometimes a bit of a ditz, and more of Minnie's sidekick than anything else, though her sass has come out before, particularly in Roadster Racers. In the Happy Helpers segments, Minnie, Daisy, and Cuckoo-Loca form a Mickey-Donald-Goofy trio, but surprisingly, Daisy's the Goofy in that trio as opposed to the Donald, like she is in pretty much everything else!
As for everything else, I'm going off of assumptions. I have seen the abusive relationship before and it broke my young self's heart. She sucked in Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas, both to Donald and to Minnie. Most of the time, I feel that Donald deserves so much better, even if he is a jerk with anger issues.

What do you mean "fixed" Donald all together?! Donald never needed "fixing." If anything, they're being inconsistent with Donald in sometimes making him be protective over nephews and go into rage-mode (which is true to character and which I love) but then others making it seem like he hates or is afraid of adventure when he's actually THE ORIGINAL adventurer. Donald was always a badass even in his earlier cartoons when he headbutted a mountain goat ("Alpine Climbers"), punched out a shark ("Sea Scouts"), punched a ghost ("Lonesome Ghosts"), uprooted a utility pole ("Cured Duck"), etc. And not to mention how in other universes, Donald is a ninja ("Maui Malkard in Cold Shadow"), a mage ("Kungdom Hearts"), a secret agent ("Double Duck comics") and a vigilante/superhero ("Paperinik/Duck Avenger"), and served in two branches of the military: Army and Navy. So technically....Donald should be hands down the most badass character in Ducktales but while he had his moments...they really need to make Donald's badassery clearer.

I was happy when the show confirmed that Donald is angry because people can't understand him (I also loved that song) however I though it was common knowledge that they were linked by lack of communication?
When I remember them in cartoons they both got angry every now and then and even Daisy had her qaucking mad moments, and it was always do in some part to communication.
Be it being misunderstood by others or too proud to ask for help. Usually being misunderstood feel to Donald and being to proud to ask fell to Daisy, but they have swapped theses grievances before. I remember an episode in particular where Daisy was trying to order of find a specific item of and receiving the wrong color, style, or random items. It started of as just the wrong colour and she was talking normally for the shop to replace it, but as she got more and more upset the item got further away from what she was looking for and her voice changed with it until Donald came home and the item that she ended up with was something he actually needed (it was his birthday I believe) I never thought there relationship was unbalance because it was always clear that they tried hard for each other even though the stress of the day often lead to misplaced anger at first (and in the early cartoons sometimes left it at that for the, "you almost had it" punchline usually aimed at Donald but sometimes at Daisy) but as healthy relationships became more a thing, I found it more often ending in some form of, "Im not sure what's going on but I'm glad you were thinking of me" and something visual to show that the hard work wasn't for nought.
They were a match made in heaven like Mikey and Minnie, but I always felt they were trying their best and I always rooted in them for it. Especially on those rare episodes they had a common enemy and being petty together was my cup of tea for the day)
